Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Yo Oceania I'm taking the province to the east of Marverni's Cap to even up my borders; no designs on the forest north-west of it
>>
Good evening gentlemen, due to the extinction of the Marverni people Oceania has been forced to act. the following lands are Designated Protected Conservation Preservers for Boar Folk (DPCPfBF) for the following provinces: Stream of Steel (40), Skin route (50), Wood of memory (49), Shard woods (33), and Tame Forest (29).

these provinces will be run by our top Capricorn officials to assure the culture and legacy of the boars are not exterminated in these trying times. Have a good day.

on another note does abysia have screen shots of how his battle went with ulm?
>>
>>164997275
There was no decisive battle yet. He thinks I will commit to fighting his force on his capital, which I may do. Or I may just conquer all of his provinces and preach. The sensible thing to do would be to cede the provinces I ask for and to peace out. I hereby declare that I do not wish to exterminate, I find the lava people rather... funny and amusing. Also my new Hydromancers can only spell doom for them.

Bats can lose to a lot of things but generally those things are things new players are bad at doing, like formations and early battlemagic. There's also a gap between expansion and massed earthquaking ozelotls where they are significantly more vulnerable.

Also amusingly they lose to elves in a straight fight, but can raid better than elves to make up for it.

Autistic RP is go!

In this particular game, we'll all be super serious faggots that take our nations very seriously. No joke pretender names. Any gimmicks must be for the purposes of roleplaying. Think about your nation. Think about your Pretender. Think of how it came to be a pretender, why, and what its nation thinks of it. Speak IC whenever possible (whether that be as your pretender him/her/itself/, the prophet, a general, some emissary of your nation, what have you). Basicaly play make believe like a young autistic child.

10-15 players. EA, Summod and Worth Heroes required. Throne victory

Anyone has any criticisms of the map or settings now's the time. no bully I'm new at this
>>
Sum1, the Furies spell is pretty good in ME since it has a chance of muting/feebleminding blood hunters.

I'm torn on the map. I genuinely like Hexawyr and think that it's one of the best balanced maps of its size, while still being quite pretty. On the other hand, it also has hexes and such on the map, which seems out of place for a roleplay game.

Ozelotls need to be massed to function ideally. They get preferentially targeted by mages so if there's a only a few they can be sniped with the right script. Also you want more than a few if you have b9, so the enemy mages have more chance of using big aoes, not killing an ozelotl, and dying due to the cumulative BV.

Regardless, it's not as much of a meme as people think, but domg's chronic inability to do anything but gang up on the wrong targets and lack of skill streaming mean they are often stronger than they should be.

The pastebin should have things about scripting and formations. Learning to use the quick keys for scripting is essential.

You want units for different kind of roles:

>Killy stuff
These guys preferably have multiple weapons, weapons with multiple attacks, high attack & strength and you can fit many into a single square.

>Blockers
Defensive units, the job of these guys is to keep the enemy away from the more sensitive parts of your setup. High HP, Regeneration, ethereal, high protection, high defence, long weapons that can be used for repeling.

>Chaff
These guys are there to die. The various undead, freespawn or summoned units that you can make lots of. These should eat enemy lance cavalry charges, generally serve as something you can blow away with magic alongside the enemy without worries or serve as a screen for some big guy to put up his buff spells before enemy flyers carve him a new asshole.

>Flankers
Something fast and sufficiently effective positioned on the sides of the army screen, ordered to attack rear or your least favourite enemy units.

>Ranged
Crossbows. Lots of them. They hit through enemy protection.

>Big guy
Something, preferably a commander that can realiably take an undefended province alone. Aoe-attack and the means to survive lots of mundane attacks needed.

>Very Big Guy
A commander and his entourage that are designed the destroy a whole enemy army that hasn't been especially prepared to counter him.

>Useful mages
Some mages have good paths for making single target attacks, some make good AoE attacks, some have good mass buffs. Picking the right ones for your army is important. These go with killy stuff to make them more killy and blockers to make them more resilient while the blocker keep the enemy in the sea of flames.

>Very useful mages
A bunch of mages laying in the bushed waiting for the enemy army to attack their province. They jump out, cast something like Earthquake or Rain of Stones and graciously make their exit.

Everyone decent spends a ton on scouts anyway. Even if you have to build a fort specifically for scouts because you have no indie scouts, information is just too valuable an asset to ignore.

This change removes the need for unlucky players to build forts specifically for scouts, and will maybe get less experienced players to also make good use of scouting.

There is indeed a Berytos sub on deck.

Well, he's more in a cabin, since he's asleep atm, but ideally presuming the god design on Berytos is total shit (such that having some play him vs leaving it stale would have 0 real difference) we shouldn't need to restart again.
>>
Based Alexsa
>>
Postponing the turn for 24 hours while I retrieve the Berytos sub, and ensure that the position didn't get memed on by an uttershitter.

r8 my oceania build

A4 is required for the booster so I can put one on a siren and turn A-random sirens into t-strikers. Later on, I can put one on A-random angelfish or on faerie queen for FW. W9 is for expansion, mostly, since even an awakesnake oceania expands worse than W9 since everything but Aphroi are pretty bad against indies.

Current research plan is Conj 5, Cons 4, then either Evo 5 if I need firepower or Blood for street sharks. Cons 4 is needed before blood because my hunting is pretty sad and needed before Evo since otherwise I don't have storm casters. The core of Blood 3 / Evo 5 lets me be Berytos But Worse, basically, but that's still way better than what Oceania used to be able to do.
>>
>>165035274
Understand that without death magic you won't be leading many street sharks anywhere, because you have 0 demon leadership beyond blood 1 mages.
>>
>>165035554
Actually, that's true. I'd need Blood 6 before I could mobilize significant numbers of sharks with ice devils
>>
Okay, so this guy gets Banes/Mound Kings for demon leadership while still packing a W9 bless, but the lack of air hats means no storm casters and therefore no T-strike force without a national hero or angelfish - and also means no turn 1 fog warriors without empowerment

It's 20 gems per storm caster. Then all the A1 randoms (A2 on land) cast Stormpower which lets them cast Thunderstrike. This is how Caelum and TNN also mobilize their mage corps for T-striking. I actually don't think any nations deploy A3 en masse in that way.

Why not go this guy? You gain an extra scale or air magic path at the cost of the nature one.

Tho I guess you also can't leave the sea with him.
>>
>>165036083
Personally I find the W9 bless to be super underwhelming, and have little issue expanding with a combo of ichytcentuar+ichytaurs - the former are pretty tanky but can't kill shit, while the latter are reasonably killy.
>>
>>165036643
Being able to leave the sea is nice, yeah, especially when you have giant paths. The ability to trapeze in and W9 living water/niefel flames/fog warrior etc seems like it'd be a really nice thing to have.

>>165036753
I need your secrets then, because W9 let me hit 24-25 in testing and expanding without sacreds left me very sad and small. When I ran an awake, he ended up taking more than all my unit-expansion parties.
>>
>>165036753
>>165036830
Also, what pretender would you use to get A4/D2+ and strong scales?
>>
>>165036830
I hit 20 provinces without using an awake or a bless (still used the sacreds some)

The goal is to arrange it so the indies hone in one the centaurs, who have better prot and defense, then the minotaurs move in to flank said indies killing them with either trample or decently potent attacks.

Avoid amber clan. Would have been 21 provinces if not for those fuckers. Can easily make an expansion party every other turn with money scales.
>>
>>165038097
Yeah? How many to an exp party? A party of 6 centaur and 8 minos die to ichtyids
>>
>>165038175
usually 8 centaurs with 8 minos. centuars were replaced with aphroi against things such as shark tribe and ichytids. No clue how to expand against amber clan atm beyond just massively outnumbering them.

On land putting the centuars up front gets them shot at with archers, which is good as they have shields. Anything size 2 dies very quickly to the trample, though masses of heavy cav can cause issues.

Attack large enemy monsters on centaur gives you the first turn easily on indy elephants, and after that the elephants do the rest of the work for you.
>>
>>165038990
If you can cherry pick your provinces, I can see you hitting 20 with that. It seems very, very unreliable to hit that number, though. Depending on starts and cap circle, I hit 12, 18 and then 14, and that's with prod 1 for aphroi blockers early on after the second time seeing ichtyids + shark tribe in my cap circle.

On land, a large enough block of archers, basically any amount of cavalry, woodsmen, multi-attack tribesmen, and boner tribe all beat an expansion party of about that size. Ichtytaur with a solo satyr lure seem to do just as well against easy provinces, but I haven't tested using that exclusively for expansion. I imagine having like 14 tramplers and a lure might do better against tribes and such. They stomp barbs well, at least.

Anyways, W9 aphroi seem to make expansion very reliable, and get me larger in their bad-cases than a scales + diversity build in its best-cases
>>
>>165036830
>The ability to trapeze in and W9 living water/niefel flames
Is that really so important? 1/4 of capricorns can cast those, you should have more casters than gems to stock them.
>>
>>165039336
Correction: all capricorns can cast living water, 1/4 can cast niefel flames.
>>
>>165039336
It's more that you get a W9 mage casting them, which is neat.

That said, I completely missed that the rainbow guy is way better than the titan or the face in that he gets D2, A4, and W9 with the same dom and scales, so I'm using him instead.

W4D1 gets you Streams from Hades. I don't recall the exact paths for what that summons but I think that gets you a W3D3 amphibious mage. Based on that, you could have your pretender sit at home and let the summoned mages deal with site searching.

Though if your goal is just to cart around more demons, your national demon commander might fit the bill for less points.

There once was a time when gods and people walked the earth together. The Marverni trace our ancestry back to that time. Our clan history begins when we joined forces with Orlanth, the Storm God, and his brother Urox, the Storm Bull. In those troubled times, Orlanth was but one of many pretenders, but had with him a great kinship with many gods and personal honour.

After many tribulations, adventures and discoveries, Orlanth proved himself worthy of marrying Ernalda, the Great Mother. The two of them together created the Marriage Ring, and established great harmony in the world through this sacred bonding. Our clan whooped with Orlanth, drank the eight known drinks, and wrestled with Urox, earning his respect.

At the battle of Extinguish Field, our Uroxi warriors proved themselves capable, charging headlong into the ranks of Bright Emperor Yelm's army.

Orlanth succeeded in remaking the world, ascending to the throne as Pantokrator, and thus began the Storm Age. During this age there were many foes to face. We did as our patron did and fought the forces of Chaos, smiting Beastmen, Trolls and the Undead. To this day we hold great enmity for these abominations.

But the Storm Age could not last forever. Orlanth disappeared one day, leaving behind many of his Kin, who in the ensuing chaos fled. Some remained behind, and were imprisoned by deities of Chaos. Urox was one such god. But his bonds have weakened, and now he waits for the return of his brother.

>>165051929
considering your idea of "ironic Roleplaying" is someone actaully trying to the win the game and not taking some lame build, i'm sure you reached many conclusions
>>
>>165051929

Ok if we're going to do realtalk, what you actually need for a successful online RP community is people of moderation. You neither want the le ironic chucklefucks who'll go out of their way to ruin good RP, OR the super autistic roleplayers who will sperg out on the forums over the slightest thing he considers immersion breaking(god, I remember an old NWN server where someone sperged out for HOURS on IRC because he thought the dwarfs were using the wrong sort of clothes/armor, and that dwarfs were physically incapable of using bows and swords).

But for a RP game in Dominions, I'd much rather lean safely towards the moderation +casual side than the opposite, since the RP is just padding to make the game more enjoyable, not an attempt to create a super-immersive RP world.

We do have more of an issue from the other end, though, and the effective DM using "autistic faggot" as his nom de guerre is a red flag. This is without getting into the issue of it even possibly being jeanwulf.
>>
>>165052873

I'm not exactly expecting pro af roleplayers here, I have my own groups for that, or know where to find them when the mood strikes me. I'm going to go into this casually and play it as a dominions game with extra padding and perhaps some fun gimmicks, so the call that autistic RP is not really looked for is just a bonus for me.

I don't think it's necessarily difficult to reconcile the two. For example, in one of the RP house rule games I participated, I played as Asphodel whose leader still viewed the nation as Pangaea (or South Pangaea, rather, because Pan was in the game as well) and the whole freespawn thing as rumours until popkill really started kicking in. With that in mind, I thought it was appropriate to use "Pangaea" pretender (ie. W9 Volla) which works very well for Asphodel too even though I would have made some adjustments if I was min/maxing.

Pretty hard in the sense that it has a ton of variables and a large list of items/spells/nations. When I first began playing, I sunk some 50 hours into singleplayer to learn all the mechanics before joining a multiplayer game.

>how much time does it take?
Multiplayer games are often played at the rate of 1 turn/day, and usually last something like under 100 turns (depends of size and everything). First turns are fast, but later they usually are like one hour long.

The second, yes, but the first no. One mage (aside from RoS or earthquake) cannot kill an entire army on his own. Mages were always strong, SCs are just answerable by mages now instead of being strictly better.
>>
>>165056502
True.

I suppose my personal problem is that the big thing I wanted transitioning from Dom3-> Dom4 was more options, not just replacing the best options with other best options. It would be nice if fully geared SC were less hard counterable and instead were an option that could be beaten but was also very versatile and strong in their own right. Right now, they just aren't worth the investment over a similar investment into mages- granted, mages use gold instead of gems so perhaps this comparison is kind of irrelevant, but on many former SCs I'd rather just have them be tanky casters instead of wading into melee at all.
>>
>>165056750
SCs still have their place, but ti's in the midgame now rather then the late game. However some SCs can still transition into monster Casters later on, the best example I can think of is the Dai Oni for Yomi
>>
>>165056750

SCs can still shit on armies without mages, or with mages whose paths can be countered easily (for example, fire mages). You just need the element of surprise, usually in the form of teleport or cloud trapeze.

>What is the opinion on Summod? Are the changes good? What about Magic Enhanced (or whatever it's called)?
Summod has become ubiquitous on /domg/ but isn't an autoinclude elsewhere. It has a few controversial changes, but only a handful of people have actual opposition to its use, and most of the people who are opposed to it do it on the basis of it changing the meta / not having the pitfalls of vanilla that people learned.

ME is basically used when you want your game to be wild and different. It's generally considered less balanced since ME additions, as a whole, are significantly stronger than vanilla spells. Rob actually DOES care about his stuff being balanced, but leans towards making things exciting/awesome and then nerfing things that are too out of line whereas Summod leans towards smaller changes.

Because between two weapons with the exact same volume, but different surface areas, the longer one is harder to use and harder to balance and maintain the center of mass as a whole when swinging. It just feels clunky. The more "even" and spread out the weapon's weight is, the better. In other words, a weapon with the thing on the left attached is easier to use for a midget than a weapon attached with the thing on the right. tl;dr Longswords are awkward as fuck to use when you're short.

.t LARPing manlet who wanted to do an odachi samurai but failed. In the end I stuck with maces which were the easiest to use.

Mictlan's natural pretender strategies to actually when are also pretty thematic and cool.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xipe_Totec

>Xipe Totec connected agricultural renewal with warfare.[8] He flayed himself to give food to humanity, symbolic of the way maize seeds lose their outer layer before germination and of snakes shedding their skin. Without his skin, he was depicted as a golden god. Xipe Totec was believed by the Aztecs to be the god that invented war.[9] His insignia included the pointed cap and rattle staff, which was the war attire for the Mexica emperor.[10] He had a temple called Yopico within the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan.[6] Xipe Totec is associated with pimples, inflammation and eye diseases,[11][12] and possibly plague.[13]

First of all, you are not always in a tunnel environment. In how many fantasy works does the action take place inside tunnels? Of course if a dwarf leaves his home and ventures outside he wouldn't use a weapon that only works well in tunnels.

Secondly, tunnels are not always coincidentally "the exact same size as you". If you ever been in a cave, you'd find some pretty large spaces there.

Wouldn't lots of dwarven weapons be specialized against people wearing heavy armor, unless we're doing generic Khazad-Dum vs goblin hordes stuff? >>
I don't know if D&D was the origin of dwarves having an enmity towards giants and a proficiency in fighting them, but I always thought the axes worked well with that. Like the dwarves hack away at the legs of larger enemies to get them down to their level.

If you'd ever been in a mine, which is what dwarves live in not caves, you'd know that they are cramped as fuck, with two people barely being able to pass each other. Trench knives and spears are the order of the day in such environments, not things that clatter against the wall. Furthermore, as a short person you want a long weapon. If you are outside, it depends on whether it is a mass battle or duel situation. In a duel, a longsword is damn near perfect, while in a battle you want either pike blocks, mass spears, halberds or other polearms.

I always thought the emblematic dwarf weapon was the ballista or crossbow; with a secondary focus on siege engines in general
>it is dark
>you are the torch-bearer
>you are running down a dwarven tunnel to siege an underground fort
>you hear before you know
>a might TWANG
>and then when you come to your senses enough to look down you and two of your mates have a massive bolt pinning you to the tunnel floor; blocking movement of the remaining siege force
>no one stops too aid you as the sound of lighter twangs fills the air and crossbow bolts begin piercing every spot of open skin
>a trio of pavises are moved to the front of the column to defend
>in the last leg of their journey another mighty TWANG cries out and the pavise bearer on the left along with his pavise is pinned as you are
>the force at the front still alove begins to rout
>the commander behind them orders their comrades to cut down the cowards

>the force he commands flees out of the tunnel

> Furthermore, as a short person you want a long weapon.

Yeah if you're a short human. Dwarves aren't just short, they're stocky, they're "fat" and they're stronger and tougher than a human.

Using a weapon that's longer than you is cumbersome if you ever actually touched one. Spears are cool and all in caves, I agree to that, but if dwarves ever existed and used spears, I'd guarantee you they'd still be shorter than the ones humans used.

Dwarven cities would probably be mines, carved into the mountainsides, or formed out of natural cavern complexes. I would imagine dwarves would prefer to settle where there are already extensive natural caves, so they'd have to do less work.
>>
>>165058832
Depends on the type of the mine, fantasy caves are pretty different to real caves. And because it's a tactical nightmare, rather than forcing to engage in the mineshafts themselves, they would probably enlarge and dig additional paths to engage in the larger areas that are guaranteed to exist in order to explain most tropes of Dwarven civilizations.

This applies to a lot of civilizations and some of these were dwarven stereotypes before the culture from which they originate ever encountered jews.

Dominion spread changes made high dominion not nearly as much of a priority so puny humans are stronger, you will virtually never use any of the Titan abilities that you are paying for (even really good ones like Awe). The best Titan abilities are usually just things like Fortune Teller or Gem Generation. Anything used for battle is virtually useless, and the autocalc makes you pay a fucking lot for those useless abilities. The old school logic of gearing up your Titan pretender and having them fight is just bad now. Their equipment slots are basically not worth what you pay for them. They are okay as casters with a lot of HP, but there are way cheaper chassises that can do it better (like some monsters for example). Most Titans average 200 points. That's fucking absurd for what you get.
>>
>>165059447
>The old school logic of gearing up your Titan pretender and having them fight is just bad now.
That was never the goon meta. Titans were taken to get decent paths/scales/a bless without sacrificing dominion and were geared for getting specific spells and items. They're still good for that.
>>
>>165059437
I suppose so, though I could stretch and argue Norse trade to the levant.

But my point wasn't originally to perfectly cite a dead man's creative intentions. Simply that I believe Tolkien may have referenced the Jews with his Dwarves, and original pertinent point is that whatever truth lies behind it all, I have come to associate them with the Jews, and a part of my interpretation provides reasoning against inter-dwarven conflict.

Natural caverns that are big enough to build anything are stupidly rare. You generally find them in carbonate landscapes that have water running through them and not enough overburden to cause collapses. Fantasy caverns are predicated on...unsound geological knowledge. Magic explains most of it, but then why build underground at all? Why not on a mountainside, or atop a hill and use magic to mine beneath your city?

>And yet I've trained extensively with 2m long halberds

Of course it's doable, otherwise those weapons wouldn't even exist in the first place.

Different weapons were used for different things, and different people have different preferences depending on what muscle types they have developed and personality(some like close combat, others ranged combat, etc.)

But a longer weapon is, on average, harder to use than a shorter one. That you claim it was easier to master a 2m halberd over a simple longsword only makes me think you weren't properly taught with the longsword, or have some dislike on the longsword.(Or unnatural like of the halberd)
>>

Yeah I'm familiar with them. But to accept your generic dwarves into your setting, you usually have to take either an unrealistic world, or an unrealistic excavation along for the ride.

Halberd is way easier than longsword. You have none of the winding and binding, it's mostly thrusts or drop cuts, and the grappling is near identical. What is your experience with HEMA?

m8 i wasn't talking about any martial arts or techniques, just "general usage" like one would have as a poor fuck sent on the frontlines with 1000 other people.

It just makes sense to me that heavier and longer weapons are "harder to use" than shorter and lighter ones. And it corresponds with my experiences, so I believe that to be the case.
>>
>>165061852
Longswords aren't battlefield weapons, they're civilian weapons. Spears, pikes and halberds are all weapons you give to the common soldier (who was not some poor fuck sent to the frontlines with no training, contrary to common belief).

Halberds and the like are not that heavy. Extant examples we have weigh no more than 3.5 kilograms, which is only slightly heavier than a longsword, and about the same weight as a zweihander. Spears are probably the lightest non-dagger weapon that saw common usage on the battlefield. And a drop cut is nothing like a full swing, like what you would do with an axe or hatchet.

What's the most collapse resistant form a tunnel can take? a circle?

Mine Dwarves, I assume they live close to the surface and have massive engineering prowess to create the supports necessary to avoid collapse.

do you want people to commit to one roleplay idea or do you want people to commit to one completely serious roleplay idea with absolutely no fun allowed?

I was thinking putting all my messages in the style of Macho Man Randy Savage would be fun but definitely not allowed.

Unfortunately I'm a bit creatively bankrupt and I'm hoping inspiration hits me as I go along.
>>
>>165062961
Except that the old masters had different words for kriegmessers, longswords and montantes+zweihanders. Montante systems use different techniques because they are different weapons. They use a lot more wide, arcing swings, rather than snappy, close cuts that use the hilt as a lever. Halfswording is also more prominent, you only really halfsword with a longsword if you're fighting in armour or intend to grapple.
>>
>>165063106

We dont' ask for serious RP in the sense that you have to impair your strategy to be plausible

We do ask, however, for immersion and epicness. Don't break roleplay and if you absolutely must, do it somewhere other players can not see you (which is why I asked to publish the game on Steam - something we can still do for communication purposes)

Beyond that, just seize whatever RP opportunity you create. If you are reciting indies, try and see how you can fit them into your lore. If you have a summon heavy strat, take note of it. it will come to you as you play.

Bit foggier than that. Montantes are in the same class as zweihanders, and use different techniques than longsword. Because they are different weapons. Entropy, Void and Oblivion
Three of the concepts that have disturbed mortals minds since they first acquired sentience. Associated with chaos, death and destruction, they mean a lot more then that, they are the very tools the Multiverse uses to evolve.
An ancient and powerful deity, in his thirsty to control the existence, distilled those essential concepts into material form, giving birth to a splendorous and dreadful form, the form of a dragon.
Since then, the dragon has succesfully destroyed the world an innumerable times, but not quite, because its master wouldnt allow it to destroy itself, thus becoming increasingly frustrated with its own purpose and existence.
After threatening all of Existence more then once, it was finally imprisoned in a fortress made of ice. This stronghold was put under surveillance by a race of flying hominids that manipulate ice.
Growing wary of the situation, the dragon is using all of its power to break free from it.
Will it this time destroy once again the world or will it find its creator for reckoning?

Dont mind the barbarisms and the convoluted writing

Many Years ago the Avvim people were blessed. 6 Ceslestial angel waters descended on the land and taught us the basics of civilzation. Our Technology was unrivaled, our mastery of magic was vast, and the nation prospered Under the tutalagy of the Waters.

However, the Lords made a grave mistake, they intermarried with our kind, seduced by our beauty, and were cast from the Celestial sphere into the depths of hell and we were left with no one to lead us except for the offspring of our two. Demi-gods who having lost their fathers devolved into debauchery and Blood feasts, eating their servants to sate their hunger that they could never completely fufill.

However a change is coming, the right hand of the lord Azazel, the great Semyaza, has appointed me as the new prophet of the Lords of Civilization. He will provide our nation with a great gift that will lead the Hinnomian people back into greatness, and no one can stop us from arising back to our proper place as the Kingdom of nations above all other nations. That year had been a queer one for the Arcoscephaleans. The thaw on Mount Cephalos came a month earlier than accustomed, the clay upon which their corn as planted turned a rich black, sprouting shoots as far as the eye could see scarcely a day from being touched by the plow. The Eleans' seasonal ravaging of the Docians' chora was stopped short by an earthquake, and then a great flood, that miraculously left their vineyards nonetheless untouched. A miraculous parade of Oreiades danced its way to the Akropolis. The Stadion was defiled when at the start of the games, the participants began to tear at one another in a most lascivious manner. The sophist Euripedes, upon concluding a dialogue that procreation was the meanest of activities a man could bend his will to, was afflicted with madness; and was found laying blind and naked in the emporion the following morning. Through every polis, mystics and philosophers were plagued with dreams of raging storms battering a lone lovely island and a beach littered with pearls.

Strangest of all, the Spring assembly for the first time in centuries broke its deadlock, naming Hipparchos Hegemon of all the Arcoscephalians and bringing peace between the poleis.

Though they knew it not, these occasions marked the beginning of the first year of the Ascension wars.

In the dawning years of the world, where the Sun had only barely peaked over the horizon, there were many Gods who exacted their will over the world. Not the kinds of things you have now, these foolish pretenders, but full-fledged deities! The great lords of the Rain and Sun, Forest and Moon, who never spoke to mortal ears with words, but made their will clear through action. The Gods were displeased, and Summer ran without end. The Gods favored us, the bountiful harvest fed every mouth in Mictlan.

With the appearance of that false idol, the Pantokrator, the Gods were not allowed to speak again. They were sequestered in their three Heavens, and not even the most devout of priests or the greatest sacrifices would bring their domain back to the world.

Time passed. Unknowable ages, serving under the seat of a cruel, hate-filled God. Even with all of his supposed omnipotence, he forgot what others didn't. There was always a promise to return, always at least one mouth willing to speak the truth.

Now, the Pantokrator flees before the might of the Sun! The Gods have become one, all through the mouth of the Mother of Hunger, Divinity Found In Flesh. She promises that her earthly seat will run red once more, and relief will come from not only the hunger of the stomach but the hunger of the soul: The desire to know that there is a loving God.

Her name is Nacatlihuapli, and she will come. We must pave the road for her return, and make a beacon for her in blood and sacrament.

As the world turned and the Pantokrator vanished a force grew in the sunken depths of the city of Therodos; The Drowned King had emerged out of legend and returned reason to the wandering souls of drowned Therodos. The arrogance of the Pantokrator to refuse an entire nation passage to their final destination had seen a new force emerge to lay claim to them.

The Drowned King began was an ancient Therodian King who drowned en route to visit his bride to be and spent much of his un-life seeking out her island home while being swept off-course by the tides. After hundreds of years of journeying he found her grave next to the man she married in life and cursed the gods, swearing to deliver suffering upon them as his life had seen. For hundreds of years he journeyed the oceans gathering the lost souls of drowned seafarers and empowering captains to claim even the souls of pirates who had a heaven or hell to forge ghostly armadas. Before a chance to act his armadas were sundered and he was forced to flee and wander again.

Now in Therodos with the disappearance of the old Pantokrator The Drowned King has finally attained the power to see his ambitions and the world will drown in his wake.

Totally not a bad guy though; pls trade gems

Hexawyr is suitable for 16 players; what it's not suitable for is 3 UW nations if someone is rejoining as Oceania.

Shaluda which is being used for TeachingFeeling is suitable for 3-4 UW but also means the tiles per person is 20
it's only single wrap though and has cave connected continents so might drag on a bit

In about two hours, I'm going to take over Caevie and set them AI. It's unfortunate but there's been no communication so I have to assume that they've been stabbed by a methhead. If that's not the case then they need to immediately send a turn.

I guess someone could also take over for them. They're a Foulspawn nation with reanimation, and according to their neighbors, they're actually in a pretty great position to do some damage. If that interests you then let me know immediately so we can work something out.

Closest you're likely to get is the various Elemental games. I forget what the latest one is. Legendary Heroes or something?

Same crowd as did GalCiv. Which makes them basically the only people to have ever developed a TBS AI that isn't blatantly retarded.
>>
>>165086583
CoE4 is very similar to Dominions, only problem is that the actual war against other nations is tedious and boring, but exploring the world and fighting independents is fun

I think we've exited a state of eternal war and shitposting now and will probably go back to cold war.

A quickie to share, got asked to make bronze armored blood hunters for MA Oceania, so mai street sharks will be more accessible for MA in a future summod build, possibly.

Also been asked if I wanted to work on designs for Ctis units and TNN designs for a future summod build, but no confirmations yet.
>>
>>165090713
Did anything interesting happen with Oceania from EA to MA? You think they'd have a big reaction to Pelagia weakening, Ys rising, and the Atlantian-R'yleh war.

>>
>>165092741
Not that I am aware of, all I know is that the EA units transferred over to MA, and that some units got bronze armor. I'm not too involved with the mechanics of summod, though I do make suggestions every now and then.

Earlier, I did make a sprite for Yama Kings after I suggested it to sum1won, (they were meant for MA Tien Chi) and a kelp unit meant to be a UW version of Dark Vines for Oceania. Pretty sure I posted them a few days back. But, I don't know if they will be used or not.

I just make sprites whenever I get asked to.
>>
>>165089896
I feel like empowering is underappreciated though. I mean, I can't really tell how much other people are doing it but the way it sounds in the thread people just don't do it. I don't do a ton of it but there's been a few times now it's been fairly revolutionary to my strategy. It's going to get me staves of elemental mastery and archdevils in a current game, for example. All for 50 fire gems I was lucky enough to get. Magic + Luck (irl L3) makes it a lot nicer, obviously.

They've got a niche game they made which is very asymmetrical that I heard good things about, but haven't played personally. That was the latest last I heard. Their latest game is Political Machine 2016 which isn't the same.

They're good folks though. Only ones I know of to ever go "sorry this game wasn't as good as usual, have the next one for free".
>>
>>165094263

It's a tough, undead mage. I'm not that Sceleria, but the +D is just gravy on top of getting a guy that is tough and can tank a rigor mortis.
>>
>>165094263

Cheapest D booster is 10 gems, then there is the 30D one so WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Its basically empower. For 10D. Plus -upkeep and -mortality
>>
>>165095249
>>165095290
You can always get muted or feebleminded by some affliction though. Or get blindness, and suddenly you're not so tough.
>>
>>165095290
>Its basically empower.
The chance of +1D is like 20%, my man.
>>
>>165094163
>all those mages

>>
>>165097803
He had 1 turn to set up communions.

I used mass flight + earthquake + foul vapors (overkill, but whatever) to attack him turn 1.
>>
>>165095342
>>165095605

But as the games goes on the chance of mass EQ/RoS approaches 100% as sceleria. A wight mage survives EQs better due to higher defense, and survives RoS better due to higher HP. Keep in mind sceleria can only natively forge the shittier armours, even with indies to make amulets of giants it can still get you.

The idea though is that you send any D randoms you get off to become Wight mages, in the hope of the +1 D (bringing them up to 4), then you give them a skull staff, then forge a skull face, then put up Well. It's low-risk because you want Wight mages anyway - for armies where you want communions/communion masters who don't fall asleep during a rigor/can cast that spell that kills things that aren't undead. Mound Fiend + Matrix costs you what, 48 gems? More expensive. If it works out, you save the cost of an empower, making it well worth it. If it doesn't work out, you still have to empower/find a ring of sorcery somewhere/forge the rod of death, but you still have the Wights.

Newbie here, what do I use to protect my forces from my own earthquakes?
>>
DSDS ulm you here?
>>
>>165101702
There are a few options.

First, you can just use EQ trap by moving a mage in a province which the opponent is planning to attack next turn. Friendly movement phase is resolved before province attacks, so this way you can guarantee that your mage will be there. This way you can cast earthpower in the defensive turn, wait for opponent's spells/arrows to hit the province defence, and cast EQ the next turn. To protect a mage just give him a ring of levitation/boots of flight.

Second, if you use heavily armored/high defence troops, EQ is not that effective. Something like legions of steel can protect your shit infantry against it. And EQ has a defence roll attached, so it can be essentially "dodged".

Third, late-game army buffs like mass flight/fog warriors/army of X.

An x-man nation where you had the actual x-men as like, heroes, Xavier and Magneto as pretenders (the only two choices), and 'guy with blowfish spines' and 'girl that can make herself be fire and toss fire' as infantry and commanders, with some of the stupider marvelverse stuff (sentinels, cosmic whatevers) as summons, that'd be almost like a real nation. In the beginning, there was love. Beneath the shadows of the mountains, the Enkindu were free, safe and happy in their ignorance, frolicking with beasts, among their primitive peers.

Then, came war. With cursed iron and flame, the Avvim and their cannibalistic masters came, slaughtering the peaceful people of the plains, feasting upon their blood and flesh, and throwing what few Enkindu survived their appetites into chains.

Savaged by the sons of the fallen, we fled, our bellies emptied and our feet torn to shreds, leaving behind naught but fire and death. Bereft of options, the shamans gathered, staring deep into the spilled entrails of a great beast, searching the spirit world for the secret to our survival.

Instead, they found our vengeance. The Shamans saw our Queen, atop a walled city of stone. They saw the shining stones bent to our will, earth, water, and wind alike bending to our will. They saw the broken chains of our kin, and Raephites lying strangled by their own iron at our feet.

They saw Ur.

Here we have typical barbarian propoganda of the Primitive Ur people. They did not realize that they were pro-ordanied by the Watchers that they were destined to serve, will serve, and always will serve our people. Semyaza is a mercifical hand though, and will hold back the wraith of Azazel if stop this fruitless rebellion now. Do you not understand the burdon our Wayward sons suffer? they eat your kin out of grief for losing their fathers, but when the fathers are freed peace will be returned to the world, and the Nephil sons will find their purposes and rule the world in harmony.

So says the most holy Semyaza, for I preach his words not my own.

There is no fate but that which we forge for ourselves. By the grace of our Queen, we will give you an objective lesson about the nature of things. You are the damned hellspawn of fallen angels, and you will be return to the abyss that vomited you forth. Once your works have been broken, and the chains of our brethren cast off, then we will have a modicum of peace.

Until that day comes, choke on your next meal.

Any action, even inaction, taken in regard to balance in any game will be met with disproportionate bitching. Therefore, quantity of bitching should never be the metric by which potential balancers make their decisions.

The corollary to this is that quantity of bitching is not the most effective way to induce others to make the changes you want. Maybe try something constructive and helpful.

The Lord of Heaven destroyed these lands. In their thirst, they paid no heed to the balance of our forces. In their tyranny, the World Tree, the one being who held us all together, burned to cinders as our lands collapsed under unstoppable force.

Our lords were slaughtered. Valhalla and Fólkvangr lay in ruins, the Allfather impaled on his own throne, blood still seeping out of his corpse. The Aesir were slaughtered to numbers you could count with your hands, the survivors ran and hid, too scared to even see the light of the sun again. Not even the divine beasts were spared: The offspring of the trickster was slaughtered, the allfather's blood is licked by hel wolves bereft of a father.

Our peoples now lay broken. The Jotunn no longer hunt with us, the servants of the aesir left to worship the still living corpse of a fool. Only the Dwarves stood with us in these dark times. Yet, the divine fool whose name I dare not speak, ignored us. Soon I would learn that they only came to destroy all who could oppose their rule, for they cared not for mortals and spirits like us.

Then, they left. Leaving only ruins and broken prisons. And from the ruins the colossal serpent Jörmungandr arose. The beast slithered across the debrii of the divine halls, encroaching on the tallest tower, and looked up to the skies.

It was then I understood what was going to befall us. The prophecy has been broken. The end of the gods lays premature. Jörmungandr beckons Ragnarök by itself, and it will consume all in the heavens.

Rumors are spreading across the world that in the forested jungles there exists a singular mountain more striking in it's beauty than the very stars themselves. Upon this mountain there is said to be wondrous gardens, and divine beings whom frolic upon it, playing celestial music together with wondrous dances. The names of these beings have also spread, and are known as the Yakhsas.

It is said that at the base of the mountain lives Ape-Men of astounding intellect, that have been uplifted by the divi. They have fashioned primite weapons, and while said to be technologically backward, have achieved great wisdom. It is said that these ape-men are divided into three castes, the Markata, the Vanaras and the Bandar, from smallest to the largest of the apes, and subsequently in order of status.

It is also said that a god slumbers within the mountain, having protecting its beauty from the malice of the world for eons. Among the Gurus of the Vanara, the highest caste of monkeys, there are whispers of a void in the celestial spheres. On the slopes of the mountain, the celestial songs have turned dire, and songs of warning and despair replace them. Within the earth, the goddess turns in her slumber, whispering in the dark. Strife has come to the world once again, and the beasts thought locked away for eternity are awakening. The slumbering god, the Dharma-Kai, She who will Defeat all Evil stirs once more. Voices are turned from despair to hope; Kala-Makhla shall rise once more and protect all that is beautiful in the world!

It is said that upon the mountain of Kailasa, the song of war has begun.

A new generation of young have been born since Black Opal died. In accordance with her wishes, she has been interred at the Seal, her sarcophagus open to one of the cracks. Obsidian Eye opposed this, but Lapis, afraid of her own legitimacy being questioned, countermanded his complaints. At Black Opal's death, and with Emberstream dead for many birth cycles now, the most cautious members of the Closed Council has waned. Ogon increasingly listens to his glory-hungry son, who leads the younger oracles in their lust for the power and resources of the surface.

And indeed, who can question that the surface is rich? Rich, and full of small weak beings that cannot question Agarthan might, even by the strength of their bodies. How then, might they fare against Agarthan armies supported by the wisdom of the Oracles? The politics of the Pale Ones are change quickly only compared to those of the Olms, but they are changing now. War looms.

Or, you don't post anything RP-related in the thread, aside from flavor-stuff. Let people discuss the game in an OOC fashion, although I think diplomacy should be kept strictly to in-game messages.

>>165161734
Few understand the beast. They think it unintelligent. Evil. They think it is a force of chaos, borne of the dark whims of jotarr trickster. They are mistaken. The beast is not more than what it is: It only wishes to survive and feed. Hate is unknown to it, as is contempt. It sees us and all creatures as equals, and does not scoff at the woes of man.

Yet it is with purpose. It wishes to ascend to the heavenly throne and initiate Ragnarök, the twilight of the gods. It will eat the Lord of Heaven's servants and consume all those bestowed with divine might.

It was I who first saw the beast, who swam out of the vast oceans lost, fearing purposelessness, decay, abandonment. The forests of the beasts were turn asunder by divine fire, where would she feed now, if there's nothing left?. I feed her my biggest Ox and helped it scale the ruins of Valhalla. I aided it in it's search of the skies, teaching her of heaven's throne. The serpent found itself with renewed purposed and in dire need of help. I promised to aid her, for I have nothing left to lose.

In return, the beast bestowed me with divine power and told me this: As long it draws breath, the Vanir and beasts it bore shall stand together. No warrior shall stand alone, for the beast themselves will aid him. No attacker shall be victorious, for the great devourer will aid even the smallest village.

I do not wish for blood other than the offered in noble sacrifice. I do not wish for war. but I am not fool. I am the prophet of the Jörmungandr Vanir, first of many to come. On this I swear: I will not stop until the divine serpent has cleansed creation of the tyrants who call themselves gods.

I only hope that when this war ends, and the divine fool returns to their kingdom, Jörmugandr will devour the Pantokrator whole.

>>
>>165163442
>you don't post anything RP-related in the thread
That's gay and lame, an arbitrary restriction with no benefit to it.

>Let people discuss the game in an OOC fashion
This is not precluded by having IC discussion in the thread.

>>165163680
I would consider that overreach. OOC diplomacy is faggotry which fails to maintain the high standards of autism that I (and, I believe, most of us) want out of this game. But it's ultimately not faggotry that deserves such a harsh level of punishment, especially since that's a punishment that sets a pretty nasty precedent and also makes the game less fun for people near that nation, whether geographically or in terms of intertwined storylines.
>>
>>165163882

By this logic should the criminal never be forgiven? Abysia has paid and is almost irrelevant now, while it is true that in our glorious capital we hang criminals, should the rope fail we would forgive them because God would have spoken in their favour.
Keeping Abysia in its current state can't hurt anybody but Abysia itself, the catastrophic end of the boar defilers would be a clear example of what happens to who messes with powerful neighbours. In that case the rope worked flawlessly.
Regardless of what I just said, do what you want with it. We, in Ermor, do not care.
>>
Hey Oceania, what does your last message mean? I agree to all that we have talked over, so feel free to act. If something happened I didn't see it/ did it intentionally?
>>
Is MA Ermor still awful if you get rid of BoT?
>>
>>165180047
What do you mean by awful? In Vanilla, it's still the strongest nation of the age (barring the diplo malus). I'm not sure where it stands in Summod, because people have consistently pushed to remove it early and its early game is much more susceptible to a rush since it needs actual provinces now for its D income instead of having everything out of its cap.
>>
>>165180302
>>165180047
In either case, though, BoT rush really isn't an optimal strat for Ermor anyways. It's just something that it can cast if it feels like annoying the world.
>>
>>165180452
I can imagine using it if you're in a dominant enough position to be rather unsiegable but not so dominant that you can just win the game. Pretty narrow requirements, honestly. I'd always rather just summon more Dusk Elders.

>>
>>165200898
It would probably be with better arena and worthy heroes btw. I won't use summod because from what I've read here it has it's problems and change the game too much and has some bias. I want to learn how to play first before start using "balance" mods
>>
>>165197092
This is absolutely unautistc compared to what I normally play. Aurora 4X comes to mind.
>>
>>165195276
1a. Put a white dot everywhere you want to be a province.
1b. (Optional) put lines between provinces for ease of use
2. Save as a .tga
3. Open up the image using the in-game map editor, set connections and province types
4. Open the generated map file (not the image) and give it a name and description according to the commands you either look up in the map making manual or copy from another map.
5. Shill like mad

For this specific map, you may also want to shoop out the text labels (shouldn't be too hard since most have solid-color backgrounds) and give the provinces those names in the map file instead.
>>
>>165201042
>from what I've read here it has it's problems and change the game too much and has some bias
You read wrong.

But yeah, newbie games should be vanilla to show people the importance of summod changes.
>>
>>165201170
t.sum1
>>
>>165201170
Ehh... I kinda feel like summod is better for newby games because it's less punishing of inefficient summons and also makes some of the ridiculous nations easier to deal with. Having newbs go up against vanilla bats or MA Ermor is just awful.

>>165201042
Almost all of domg games use summod. It has some controversial changes, but overall it's a huge improvement for both balance and variety.
>>
>>165201042
That's fine, just make sure to warn them about what nations not to play, and ban EA Xibalba if playing in EA.
>>
>>165201042
You also probably don't want to add better arena, cause that shit imbalances the game quite a bit with certain lucky artifact drops, and is pretty unusual to have in a game anyway.
>>
>>165201632
Does summod actually make bats not insane?
>>
>>165202162
It cuts their expansion snowball by doubling the res cost of lancers and making out of fort commanders StR
>>
>>165202227
Oh, and it increases the gold costs of all the bats and the unrest generated by some of their stuff.

They're still the best nation in EA, but sloth 3 actually almost matters if you want to get enormous as you would in vanilla. The StR commander change also makes them less obnoxious about instantly raising raiding parties in that one forest that you didn't take back right away
>>
>>165202227
In addition to this it nerfs the shit out of beast bat spam.

They're still the strongest nation, but the difference between them and say, Lanka, is now smaller than the difference between Lanka and nerfed Therados.
>>
>>165202532
>the difference between them and say, Lanka, is now smaller than the difference between Lanka and nerfed Therados.
It was from the start. Lanka was originally a pretty good nation.
>>
>>165202707
thatsthepoint
>>
>>165202707
I'd disagree. Lanka has a mediocre early game whereas in vanilla Xibalba can hit 60-70 provinces year 1 map permitting (more realistic in a game with humans is 40 or so).

Yes, this gets Xibalba gangbanged, but that just winds up with a bunch of dead fools. I would say it is easier to win as vanilla Therados than to lose as vanilla Xibalba.

>>165202409
Man last time I was a /domg/ regular Niefel was the nation everyone hated in EA. What happened? Xibalba was already in the game too so it wasn't just their addition.
>>
>>165203320
Win stats happened. Now we know which nations actually win games.
>>
>>165203320
I haven't ever seen niefel highly rated since I first started playing around a year and a half ago
>>
>>165203320
>everyone hated in EA
>some scrubs got stomped and whined about it
Balance mods shouldn't take opinions into account. Statistics is what matters.
>>
>>165203320
Niefel is still kind of hated, because their bless rush can fuck you up if it hits you early. The thing is, although they can win an early war, Niefel sucks at actually winning games. That means it's normally only scrubs which play them, which makes them a lot easier to defeat.
>>
>>165203489
They weren't highly rated anywhere but here and desura. But those two communities hated them to the extent of a player occasionally going AI after one fight with them.
>>
>>165203778
Also "kind of hated" is less hate than Ermor, elves, birds, or people who stale or go AI in the first year.
>>
>>165203731
See I argued that Niflheim, like any giant nation really wasn't that big a deal for most nations especially after the early game but I was called an idiot for it.

>>165203778
Basically this. There's a chance you'll get seriously fucked up in an early rush, especially if you dn't know how to handle giants, but other than that? B Tier nation.
>>
Turn 2 is go.
>>
>>165203320
Niefel has a lot of counter picks and isn't a turbo expander; it's just slow and steady cookie cutter simplicity to play

>>
>>165205213
>second: can i skip blood entirely?
If the game isn't going late, absolutely. Your blood hunters are fairly expensive.

It does provide a lot of utility, though, in the form of assassins nice items, but the actual switch to storm demons and so on takes a lot of gold and turns spent hunting to do right.
>>
>>165203731
Correction: players with extremely high win rates, who demonstrate very solid mastery over the game, have somewhat valid opinions.

Those opinions should still be taken with a grain of salt, tbf, but not discarded entirely.
