The bigger ones on DLsite have sales in the tens of thousands... for each game they release. I mean, they don't get to milk the same 100 neckbeards dry every month, but they sell so much that it doesn't matter. Even with the DLsite cut, that's still a lot of cash, specially for the more expensive games.

And then even the smaller developers still can manage 4~5k sales if their game is really amazing. They're not making little money at all.

Also important to remember that on Patreon, there will be a few whales paying a lot of money every month, but most people will just pay whatever is the minimum required to unlock what the dev is keeping hostage. While japs selling their crap get the same amount of cash from everyone, and it's not always a tiny amount.


I do believe that western developers are being greedy with how they use Patreon. They're pretty much abusing mentally ill virgins who have too much money for their own good. It's pretty much what people were doing to the rich autists when MLP was big. It's just wrong. But I'd also expect these bubbles to burst at some point and then western h-game will probably end up sort of dead.
