I admit I feel complicated about this. I get that Goro's fishy as fuck and clearly one of the bad guys, but the rest of PT never thought for even one second to actually try and talk to him. He's untrustworthy and the traitor therefore we're going to ruse him despite him having motives that are similar to ours. I understand why, but I wish it could have played out differently.

It depends on what "story related" means for you. Morgana is a very important element of the story, but makoto is on the center of the plot multiple times and she's the one in charge (which is just a representation of joker)

All of the cut-ins have unused parts (you usually only see the eye portion in-game).

But as for completely unused ones shown in the artbook, most of Shidou's (IIRC only one of them was used), all of the ones for the bosses' shadow selves that don't have their palace outfits (except Shidou, for whom none of his shadow cut-ins are used), all of Lavenza's, the hurt one for Goro and the angry one from his second set. I think Madarame, Kamoshida and Kaneshiro might've had a few unused ones in the artbook too, but I'm not 100% sure which ones of theirs were used, it's been a bit too long since I went through the first three dungeons.

Thanks for this, by the way! I don't think anyone else managed to get at the cut-in files yet, so it's nice to finally get to see them in full.

All portraits have a full version. Furthermore, nothing here is obviously unused (ex. black & white sketch of a character). All portraits are clean and finalized, any could be used for all I know. Some portraits don't have mouths, and I'm guessing that's because they're not fully shown in-game. Most of the portraits are complete though.

The artbook lists the hurt one as 苦痛, though, which means it's more of a physical pain thing than a wince from harsh words. That scene's the only one where he's in poor enough shape without being angry, so it's the only one where it'd fit (though it'd have to be before his deal with the PT, since that's when we get the tired smile instead).

That's probably why, yeah. There's only a few where you can very briefly see the character's mouth, IIRC.

If you're looking for unused graphics in general, a few of the bustups are unused too. >>164974909 posted one (it's b010_606_00), but there's also this one for Yusuke (b005_009_02), and most characters have a full set of emotions for every outfit even though not all of them are always used in-game.

USRDIR/ps3/font/assist/bustup has the portraits used for the mid-dungeon messages that pop up in the upper right corner, but includes variants for each party member's various casual outfits and sets for the palace bosses, I'm not sure if those are actually accessible in-game.

A few event sound banks have unused dialogue (I'm guessing the actual script files might include that too, but I don't have a way to convert those), IIRC, as do a couple of bosses (in some cases it's even both event dialogue and regular battle lines).

I'm pretty conflicted on how I feel about his fate. On one hand, him dying before he was at least able to confront Shidou felt really unsatisfying and he was just playing into what Shidou wanted anyway.
On the other hand, it could be seen as him confronting the embodiment of the puppet he used to be and willingly choosing to not be a part of the cycle of abuse anymore.
But, who the fuck am I kidding, his "death" was the most anime ambiguous death I've ever seen and he'll probably be back in some spinoff sooner or later anyway.

Huh. The right one's used in-game (pic related; it's from the game over for missing the deadline for the seventh Palace), but I didn't notice that it's slightly animated. That's neat.

Not sure if there's any other unused bustups, I'd have to check again (I think outside of those two and costume variants the majority of them are used though). For context, no idea for the Yusuke one, but IIRC the general speculation for the Goro one is that they might've used it towards the end of his last scene but ultimately decided to just show a shot of his in-game model smiling instead, since that's the only scene where he uses that outfit.

I'd offer to help with the voice files, but I'm not that good at by-ear transcription, so the best I could do is give you guys the filenames for the event voice banks with unused dialogue in case someone figures out how to convert the corresponding scripts.

Tatsuya and Jun are complex and interesting characters in their own, but their dynamic is pretty basic. Which in the other hand you can't really blame on them. P2 barely had romantic scenes.
Personally I think JokerxGoro is a more interesting pairing, but Tatsuya and Jun are more interesting as characters.
