So I have brain problems. Gregtech, Forestry, UBC, UBC Ore Registrar, etc seem to be conflicting in some confusing ways. I have five different types of "tin" ore here, and one Cassiterite. Ideally I'd just be getting the Gregtech generation with the UBC graphics (drops are crushed/dust ore and stone dust), but I'm not sure how I'd go about configuring that sort of thing. Mod list in next post.

I'm back with another stupid redstone question.

How can i make this lamp light up, while still having the ground around it completely flat? The way it is in the pic.

I know i can just place a redstone torch under it, but i want to use it with the light sensor, so i don't want it to be on all the time.

Is it impossible in vanilla?

People like like Gregtech don't mind grind. When they see someone saying "Gregtech is grindy", they read it as "Gregtech is bad" so they get defensive.

Gregtech might be the Evangelion of Minecraft. If you like it and you meet someone else who doesn't like it, you can always deflect any criticism by saying "Whats wrong, too DEEP for you?"

That is why I like 4chan. You can't just downvote opinions you disagree with. That's why you always see conflicting opinions on pretty much everything, except for things that are truly objective (like MultiMC being the best laucnher, or FTB being shit). How do I set it so I can have it clicking while I'm afk or in another window on a server? All the tutorials I've tried never seem to work or are outdated
>>
>>164984305
I don't know if it still works but you could hold done any button like 'w' or 'right'click' then press 'f11' and immediately let go of your held buttons. Because of the delay and lag from changing it into or out of fullscreen mode - minecraft doesn't realize that you let go of the button and continues to think you're still holding it down until otherwise. I use to do it all the time for auto walking, auto mining, and auto clicking modblocks like the applied engergistics grinder. I think it was a little limited like you couldn't activate the bug then go play another game for example but you could turn on say a youtube video, move the minecraft window to the side, activate the bug then continue watching your video.

Entity ID conflicts are supposed to be impossible, each mod get's its own instance of IDs to assign. Minecraft will use like 0-40, and say mod(a) will use it's own 0-20 and mod(b) can use 0-458. The point is they're all separate per mod, so if you're getting a conflict that would mean a particular mod is conflict with itself. I don't think forge has anything set to auto solve conflicts like that though. If a mod is somehow using an ID outside of it's domain they're probably doing something they really shouldn't be doing.

this pvp guide is for the new players since most players already know a majority of this stuff but for the newer players i hope this can help.

First off all pretty much the core of 8 blocking is sprint reset. More commonly known as w tapping, shifting, block hitting all fall into the category as "sprint reseting" Every time you either tap w, shift, or block your sword your oppenent will take double the knockback from 1 to 2 blocks ( them not moving)
It allows you to keep them in the combo zone for a longer amount of time from knocking them back even though sometimes you can knock them to far away if you dont time it correctly. From my past experiences of w tapping there are about 4 main techniques for executing it while shifting is the same pattern and block hitting is different but im not going to make a thread on how to block hit LOL. Ok so pretty much there is 1. Tapping w before the hit, this will almost always work and its hard to not give your oppenent the extra knockback since you have the extra time to react opposed to other methods. I don't do this method since i dont think the misplacement is very affective on it since its a bit of a delay before the original hit/knockback they recieve and i will state all of that later in the thread. Next is the original method i learned and works well for starters. Tapping w right after the hit, it works pretty well and is simple to do it will always reset the sprint for the following hit. Next is tapping w as you get the hit imo this is the most effective but also the most complicated since you have to make sure you get the kb increasement at a short notice but it makes you seem to get farther hits since you tap it during the process of the hit. Next is by far the easiest which goes by another name as "wobble sprinting" this is where you spam your w key as fast as you can it works but you cant strafe with it giving it downsides.

Mod development seems to be really dead since 1.8 for whatever reason, though even that's lesser than the 1.7 versions. Is there any reason for that? Everyone capable of significant modding left the community?

Haven't played since 2011 myself, just want to know what's up with this before I get back into it and download a shit ton of mods because the base game doesn't look different from Beta in any significant way.

I actually meant adding suggestions that are beneficial for the game as whole like the Cubic Chunks suggestion.

I wasn't too sure about the sequel thing, but in the relation of "making a new game with new code" without trying to copy the original code.
>>
>>165021513
it sounds nice but the mojang is legitimately somehow too stupid to add things that modders have already figured out

see the problem with doing that is they have to make the entire game, from effectively no starting point. no engine, no tools, and frankly no understanding of what went into Minecraft and how to design a game.
they can copy the design of minecraft sure but there's still making everything that runs on. it'd probably take two years or more with Mojang's team.

Yeah I have a really hard time respecting people that just off-limits topics based on them being heated though. I never liked the mentality of "it just makes people angry so you shouldn't talk about it" because all that means is that you'll never really understand eachother. Arguing and discussing things is literally the only way to find actual understanding, everything else is just an illusion of pleasantry, not even trying to be edgy or anything because its not like I don't think those relationships and interactions aren't necessary eg Thanksgiving dinner, family reunions, and work aren't places to make real connections/understanding with people, you just want to be able to cooperate and get the day/work done.

If you're friends with someone on a discussion level though, like actual friends, you should be able to talk about that sort of stuff and work through differences.

Also its hilarious that other countries think that the US is like, in a state of irrecoverable turmoil, historically the US only becomes stronger with super destructive civil disputes. Riots/Civil Unrest/Shitflinging are unironically how we have always evolved as a nation, literally how we were formed as a nation. The Boston tea party was just a bunch of angry fuckers destroying royal property, the Boston massacre was a police riot turned bad.

Around 1.5, devs of IC2 felt it was too overpowered, changed it up and themed it after gregtech, which if you didn't know, is a comprehensive overhaul that makes the game much more microcrafty.
Nerfed a lot of shit too, made systems more complex, etc.

>IE misses a lot
It's missing a lot of progression steps, forcing everything to be mostly timegated, plus, there isn't much you can DO with the power.
I can't really explain it well, but it just feels incomplete.
Magneticraft is more full featured with the same factorio in minecraft feel.

It's mostly because mDiyo kept shouting about how GregoriousT's addition to the IC2 team and IC2 going microcrafting hell couldn't have been a coincidence - so, clearly, GregoriousT must've been immediately given full write access to IC2's source code and clearly decided to clone his own existing mod - and went as far as to ban anyone who disagreed from his streams.

So here are the main mods I'm currently using, not including dependency mods and some mods like minimap/hud/nei shit.

>Additional Pipes(buildcraft)
>Advanced Generators
>Better Builders Wands
>Buildcraft
>Buildcraft Additions
>Computercraft
>Flood Lights
>Forestry
>IC2
>Ironchest
>Irontank
>Logistic Pipes
>Minefactory Reloaded
>Railcraft

So my thoughts initially are
>Did Buildcraft switch everything to RF? If so should I use thermal expansion and support mods for thermal expansion?

I'm not using Tinkers Construct, I fucking hate Tinkers Construct. Forestry seems cluttered with a shit ton of bee stuff that I don't really want and a ton of tree stuff I don't really want.

I want a mod with good, complex, customizable farms. I can't remember if it was forestry or something else but I remember a newer mod had multiblock farm structures that you could basically design however you wanted.

I might not want minefactory reloaded, pretty much the only thing I want to use from it is the fisher but I'd prefer a more complex fishery type thing without the mod going full bee breeding in its complexity.

I'm also looking for a mod that improves/expands buildcrafts quarries and a mod that improves buildcrafts oil refineries or a mod that provides its own method of refining oil into fuel thats better than buildcrafts default oil refinery.

Things I want to avoid
>Teleporting stuff
>ultra specific multiblock machines(immersive engineering/tinkers construct) giant multiblock reactors and steam turbines are fine.
>Applied Energistics
>Genetic autism breeding mods

Is computercraft retarded? Turtles seem useless to me but I like the idea of programming stuff in minecraft.

I want to use lots of trains and lots of autistic fuel generation/management.

Is open modular turrets good?
>>
>>165069162
Everything uses RF now, but to use RF you only need CoFHcore.
Thermal expansion is shit for fun.

Minefactory reloaded is considered TOO easy/overpowered/convenient for a lot of things.
Forestry is what you want for the farms, you're stuck with the fucking bees, but they aren't necessary for the farms.

Nothing for quarries specifically I'm afraid, they're oft neglected. There are various other autominers, but none that fit the theme.
For oil, magneticraft, buildcraft additions, which you're already using, and pnumaticraft all have fractal distilling.

Computercraft is good, there's also opencomputers which is more comprehensive, and I think there's a french mod that I haven't messed with but may turn it into electrical engineering too.

Traincraft + Railcraft is for trains, you need both.

Not sure about OMT, never used it.
>>
>>165069752
Alright thanks. I'll check out magneticraft then as well as traincraft. I don't really NEED trains that look like trains, railcrafts carts are fine as long as I can store and move shit with them but if there is some other reason why I need traincraft I'll get it and use it.

Yeah I took off minefactory reloaded.

The methods used for profiling Forge mods are literally identical to every Java program ever made: take out VisualVM (or YourKit's profiler if you acquire the open-source project license), run samplings over a large period of time, if you have a very fast computer run a proper profile.

FoamFix was literally created by spending hours a week looking at heap dumps.

Are there any mods that make the world feel less static and dead?

I dunno maybe something like biters from Factorio. Or anything that will try to rape your base if you don't defend it properly.

Or something that actually works against you or is threatening.
>>
>>165080651
So how do minecraft general serbs work?

I've "played" on a couple of public servers before but its always super duper gay. Its like they have a lot of focused mods but everything thats actually useful is banned, people gargle admin cock all day every day, or they sit hella far from everyone never talking and essentially playing alone by themselves.

I imagine serbs die almost instantly but I'm pretty interested on legitimately hanging out on a server for a while. I'm a little bit solitary to a certain extent but thats mostly because I don't like people telling me what to do in group builds. My stuff also looks like shit because I generally value function over aesthetics so I'll have random pipes piping out of my floor and along walls and in giant pipe clusters with cobblestone scaffolds everywhere.
>>
>>165081921
I haven't been around for any but the last few serbs, but I've had a good experience so far
People seem pretty friendly, and never had any problems finding someone to help me with something
I don't build nice either but people seemed to have pretty comfy bases and no one ever complained about my piece o' shit box houses or shitfuck hole to bedrock with a fence around it
>>
>>165081921
ive never seen an mcg serb with banned items (other than IC2's nuke, lel)
i dont care how you build as long as its not a complete cobble clusterfuck eyesore near my base, im hardly a talented builder myself
I usually find a mountainside to dig into or build a complex of 9x9s, on hobo i lived in a fort made of sand and cacti, with no shelter (had a sick train system though so its ok)
>>
>>165081921
Depends on the serb really, usually a /mcg/ serb lasts a week to a couple months. Usually only like 5 people at a time with be on a serb, although some of them have been popular and dragged in 10-20 active players. Usually the Admins are pretty cool, if they don't like an item they'll usually just not carry the mod, instead of banning something, they're pretty lax about the rules too usually. Most of the time all of the players will be chill bro's open to helping one another autism. However players tend to keep to themselves and essentially play alone like you said. It's also pretty common for a "commie" to appear on a serb, that being a collection of like 5+ players all playing together, working on the same base.
>>
>>165081921
My only experience with /mcg/ serbs was hoboserb, but I imagine most are the same.
People just did what they wanted.
Serbs only die when no one shills for them, though shilling isn't really the right word.

People posted stuff that was on hoboserb in threads a lot which got people to join and kept the serb alive.

Only things that were disabled were things that most people could agree were OP as fug, like digi miner, or stuff that damages serbs.
There weren't any faggy plugins or anything like that, just the one that lets day happen if 1/2 of the serb sleeps, and land protection for people who had gone inactive for a long time.
>>
>>165083252
>>165083176
>>165083021
>>165083020
When I refer to banned stuff I'm mainly referring to buildcraft quarries. This sounds pretty encouraging/nice though, it sounds like mcg serbs are closer to private/small servers compared to donation whoring public servers.
>>
>>165083620
Buildcraft quarries got banned at one point on hoboserb because people were fucking up the serb with the chunkloading.
Ender quarries weren't banned though.
>>
>>165083620
yeah, not seen anybody ask for payment at all
personally I only ask for donation if somebody is whining about lag, I'm more than happy to upgrade my server if someone else is footing the bill

>>
>>165081653
>Are there any mods that make the world feel less static and dead?
No, it's by definition forever static and dead because nothing outside of n chuncks around you exists.
Although i'm currently playing some weird pack and some mod makes mob spawn in a much different way, closer to Terraria, and i like it immensely so far.I'd guess it's peaceful surface but i haven't really digged around yet.
Coupled with Zombie Awareness it makes mobs spawn in packs far away from you in some unlit dank caves and then march out for your ass occasionaly. And surface is indeed more or less peaceful at nights, for the first time in many years i'm freely walking around buildings at nights without having cumbersome ugly ass fencewalls with anti-spider measures all over the place. Makes it look much more believable then shit materializing and dematerializing right before your eyes
Caving expirience is fresher too, instead of spamming torches left and right in fear of creeper magically popping up on some missed corner, you can inspect any dark corner as you please, mobs will only spawn far away and travel the cave system to you, and it's pretty scary seeing a bucnh of zombie miners and soldiers march out of far intersection gunning you down

As for

They look alright, a bit like upside down train tracks, you can use different wood for them and I don't think there's a size limit as long as you can see the other side and have enough material.
It's built by shooting from a grappling gun, after which it takes material from your inventory and builds a bridge between you and the place you shot.

Sadly no handrails, I would love an update for that though.

As unoptimized as mods may have been, from the amateurs of this community, the game was always playable and fun. Somehow Lex not only drained the performance from the game, but the fun as well. You can't even load vanilla and get half the framerate when Forge is installed.

Network manager I'll look into, check out a video and its issues page. it seems like its really useful in very certain niche scenarios. Or like RedLogic but with more high-level organization.

I think I'm using 2.4 which I picked up from the mod's Curse page.

sitting here with opis and other monitoring shit open.
the potential memory leak thing with CalltoBattle just gets a bigger and bigger number the more you use CoB's weapons. It's increasing by usage, not idly so its more like tracking how many packets its sent, from what I understand and what the dev has said on the subject.

Techguns I can see the entity counter tick up and down, and observe actual projectiles. The problem would be in its rendering requirements for shit like its flamethrower and the weapons themselves. But it uses entities which hit stuff and GO AWAY after. Whereas CoB i'm pretty sure just tries to pull off magic by offloading everything to the server and using an excess of network traffic to determine hit calculation. That's probably why Forge thinks there's a leak with this mod using so many packets.

and then someone found out you can desync the player hitbox by hitting the 'prone' key a couple times. I duplicated it by tapping the key a couple times quickly. it's not gonna make TS2. if there's an updated version where that's fixed and the hit calculation is cleared up I'll test it out but its not making release for the server.

I think you're trying to do too much train in one spot. My best results have been with small yards that are very focused on what they are intended for.

Plus it's better for your hardware and or serb's hardware to not have all that shit sitting out.

Well to be perfectly honest you seem to be stuck on the hardest part of the railyard setup, so don't be thinking bad thoughts about yourself for getting hung up here. Planning and constructing the yard is easy, but making it work with connections is the bitch thanks to TC's very unforgiving track.

So is it the physical connection that has you stuck, or is it how your traffic will flow?

You're right. We can run trains to every fucking volcano we find, but at the time of that pic I was the only dedicated trainfag on the serb and I was more occupied with fucktons of oil, ores and lumber.

A true autistic network where each player had a commodity specialization would probably be neat, but I don't expect people to only focus on collecting and moving one resource.

For mods that don't really add content, look up Not Enough Items(Or you'll be fucked when it comes to looking up recipes) and either WAILA or The One Probe (helps you identify the thing you are looking at. You can configure them in game to change them as you feel. Bibliocraft adds some nice furniture.

Inventory Tweaks can be nice for player/chest inventory management.

As for actual functional blocks, Storage Drawers is something I add to every pack as a way to store bulk items. Honestly, though, if you're just stopping by into minecraft land for a bit and you haven't played since tekkit, you may be better off just using a pre-built kitchen sink pack like infinity evolved for 1.7.10

>was always playable and fun
In 1.2.5, I managed to destroy a server with a hundred cobblestone breakers connected to RP2 pipes. Testing a 1.4.7 modpack right now, I wasn't getting much more FPS than I get on 1.10.2.

A lot of the stuff you're complaining about is subjective.
>>
>>165125024
Okay, time for a longer monologue...

I remember distinctly the days of me running a modded server. Pulling out MCEdit to remove broken mod tile entities in 1.2.5. Patching RedPower 2 to make it work with MystCraft in early 1.4.6, patching Equivalent Exchange 2 to fix the blaze exploit in 1.2.3. Fighting with WorldEdit on MCPC+, which refused to acknowledge the existence of seemingly randomly chosen mods (and when it didn't, easily causing other issues). Seeing Carpenter's Blocks Doors cause actual lag to the server, by having 4 doors take up as much CPU time as all the sheep. Most importantly, of course, having actual players on my servers in the first place.

I agree - it was fun then and it isn't fun now. But can it really be blamed on the seeming performance decrease and, worse, can the performance decrease be blamed on a specific group of four people alone?

There's areas in which the game got faster and areas in which the game got slower. For example, until 1.5.2, every block from a different mod caused all rendering to halt, a texture sheet swap, and a restart of rendering. The introduction of the builtin stitcher made this unnecessary. 1.8 required ten thousand models in memory for all of vanilla - 1.9 only required three thousand. Conversely, the introduction of the integrated server reduced the amount of codepaths to one with caveats versus two with a bit fewer caveats, at the cost of adding latency for singleplayer users. Generally, every abstraction layer Mojang added for something caused a slight FPS drop (with the exception of 1.8's rendering rewrite, which let them (a) make parts of the rendering code multithreaded and (b) add the advanced chunk culling algorithm, further boosting FPS). I never really cared myself as I found Minecraft very much not enjoyable without multiplayer.

The game used to be fun for other reasons than "modders were more free!" - communication with the Forge team has greatly improved since even the 1.6.4 status quo.
>>
>>165126307
First of all, nostalgia goggles. Humans have a tendency to idealize what was vs. what is. I got to experience that firsthand when I was asked to help out with the upcoming "we pretend it's the 1.4.7 modding community" BTM 17.4/"RetroBTM". The crashes just refused to stop.

Second, mods changed over the years. We went from the "Tekkit-style" balance of easy acquiring and tough logistics to the "FTB-style" balance of tough acquiring and easy logistics. (I call them by their most representative modpacks). While I will admit that I think the simpler gameplay of old mods is, to me, more enjoyable vs. the microcrafting hell and balance-heavy grind we have nowadays, and I understand why many people - myself included - feel alienated, many other people feel listened to. (There was always a demand for grind - TerraFirmaCraft has been around since at least 1.2.5 - but nowadays, there are far fewer options for those who just want to have fun. As a BuildCraft ex-developer, I feel mildly responsible.)

Third, /we/ changed over the years. Back in 2012, I had no problem finding 70-80 active (not simultaneously, of course, but still) players for a server. In 2015, in the very same community, I had an issue finding 10, despite being able to reach many of the former active players. A lot of the mature "gamer" audience simply gave up on the game because of the FTB conspoh sorry I forgot they were almost all vanilla-centric outside of my servers.

[coughs violently]

The game simply used to be more enjoyable as three years of the very same thing can get boring for everyone - which is why I've started looking into tweaking the game's core mechanics with Charset in an attempt to hopefully squeeze a more long-term kind of gameplay out of it. (Sadly, other projects are occupying my time as well.)
>>
>>165126859
Fourth, as I already hinted before, the community changed over the years. Many of the folk who I met over the years and added to the game's experience are long gone from it and moved on to games like Factorio, Terraria or Space Engineers, only coming back to Minecraft once in a rare while. (Of course, many are still around, but it's just not the same.)

To sum up, it's just not the same. We have changed, the community has changed, the mods have changed.

Performance or communication don't have much to do with it, in my experience - some of the most fun I got out of this game was organizing the first BTM - in July 2015, on a dodgy 3G connection in a small town, on 1.7.10, with a grand total of three (sometimes five) frames per second.

I'd love to say more about the subject, but I have to go. See you and feel free to contribute your own thoughts!

There, found some more free time.

I remember when I had to sit down and port Pam's 1.2.5 mods to MCPC+ for my own server in order to be able to upgrade to newer mods. I don't think I miss those days, neither as a server admin nor as a mod developer (while I only started publishing my mods in 1.6.2, I already attempted making them in 1.5.2, 1.4.7 and even, briefly, 1.2.5). But do I miss them as a player?

The last version of modded Minecraft I genuinely enjoyed - by which I mean played for a considerable amount of time - was, actually, 1.6.4. (Arguably, I also played on modded 1.7.10 and 1.8.8 briefly, but nowhere near as much as I played 1.6.4, 1.5.2, 1.4.7, 1.2.5 or even 1.2.3) I started wondering why - is it because I got deep into the rabbit hole of the modding community (though that mostly happened near the end of 1.6.4's lifespan as opposed to the beginning of 1.7.2's) and development itself around the time, is it because the mod design paradigms shifted noticeably during 1.7's lifespan (the symbol of which is AE1->AE2, however, IC2 had undergone reminiscent, if not stronger, changes in 1.5.2, and many mods - like BuildCraft - have had subtler balance changes from 1.4.7 to 1.7.2), is it because my perception of mod design changed, is it because I only noticed the changes then, or is it because I changed my opinions about voxel games, or is it finally because I simply got bored of it all and nothing actually changed?

They could even leave the nether as it is, just make the current nether be the underground, then since the build limit is 256 and not 128 anymore, just put the new surface area on top of that. >who's "we". I haven't changed, certainly.
From the context? All modded players.

>>the community has changed
>...for the worse.

In what way? I feel that there's a lot less drama going on overall - there's far fewer "I'm going to crash the game because I disagree with you" meltdowns or "I'm going to DMCA you because you broke my permissions"-type attacks. Is that not a change for the better? Also, there's many more active modders overall than there used to be and more ways for an up-and-coming modder to get noticed (such as some of the less-"mainstream" modpacks or showing off your mod at BTM).

I do agree that there have been changes for the worse - for one, there's a lot more thinking based around money, especially since CurseForge and Patreon gained the kind of social acceptance (even for selling [beta access to] mods!) that ad-downloads never quite have. In addition, many past dramas have left people more bitter overall in ways which are tough to heal.

>>the mods have changed
>...for the worse

That's a subjective opinion.
One thing that I feel can be said objectively is that a lot more mods are open source and thus freely modifiable nowadays. Up until 1.4.7, some mods (RedPower 2, RailCraft and Forestry) employed a secret "cross-DRM" scheme which verified that the other mods on the list were not tampered with. Nowadays, such a plan would be noticed and disapproved of fairly quickly. In the Tekkit modpack, the only major content mod which was open-source was BuildCraft - nowadays, pretty much a third, or even half of the major content mods in every pack are open-source, not to mention the amount of minor mods, which has greatly increased since then.

As for subjectiveness, as I said, mods became more grindy and more complex overall. Some people like it, some people do not. I'm personally not a fan, but many people are and ask for more grindy modpacks - there's certainly increasing demand for them.

Once again, what exactly changed for the worse?

Yeah, you managed to kill the game by doing something unusually demanding. Good job.

>>165164315
Unusually demanding? Barely under a thousand tubes and a hundred cobblestone breakers? Those comprised about 80% of the server. Splitting that for about twenty players, which is not unusual for a server, that gives you an average five cobblestone breakers and fifty pipes per player - something that is to be trivially expected from anyone making a decent-sized build. I believe any moderately sized server would get to this sooner or later - the server I worked with to test BuildCraft on 1.7.10 in 2015 had 15 players and about ten thousand BC pipes ticking, a few AE2 systems, a few Botania flower setups and a bunch of other things from other mods.

>You can kill 1.8+ by just trying to play it normally, because that's how shit it is. There's no comparison.
Not in my experience. There are some framerate issues with mods still, but they are getting fixed one by one. I know that Charset pipes had some bad code in them which caused rendering usage to be much higher than it should be - when I found it, I fixed it, of course. Turns out that others have already known about this, yet nobody ever bothered reporting it.

I'm back with another newbie question regarding Redstone.

Is there a limit to how many lamps you can power with a single powersource, even when using repeaters?

My setup is something like this.
But sometimes different parts of the trail "powers down" or something. Trails that were powered a second ago is suddenly one block short and stuff like that. And it seems to be random.

What am i doing wrong?
>>
>>165168014
welcome to Minecraft, where bugs become features, and irrelevant little would-be annoyances get given top priority

>>165170142
It's not random, redstone can keep current for a lenght pf 15 blocks (losing 1 power for each block traveled, irrelevant in the case of lamps), longer than that it's considered "not powered", repeaters will reset the power level to the max, so use them

You have no limit on the amount of powered blocks, so go nuts
>>
>>165170363
Then i have absolutely no idea what is going on. Some parts of the trail just randomly powers down, even though the whole trail was powered just a second ago

Well, do the one wire per lamp thing, it's definately what's messing up your circuit

As soon as the sensor stops bringing in power, the repeater's delay will fuck up your circuit due to power loops (3rd picture is a good example, the repeater powers itself with a delay, whether or not the sensor is inputting power)

Worlds would be infinite in every direction, but it was an ancient coremod and the code is still too fucked up to add it efficiently. Plus it'd break mod support and most modders are probably too stupid/uncreative to take advantage of the opportunity.

the TallWorlds mod worked quite fine for a prototype, performance wise, of course, it still was incompatible with everything

In my opinion, Minecraft would take so many changes to be a good vanilla game that making a totally new game would be the better option, anyway. even though it might be a bare bones modding platform, at least that means that it will be built with modders in mind and not completely fuck modders over every time it updates.
and over all at least [pic related]
>>
>>165184882
The problem is that people don't mod for games that are merely "modding platforms". They mod games because they found the original game interesting enough to bother making a mod for. Modding platforms aren't interesting in of themselves. They need mods to be interesting in the first place. There is a reason, of the relatively few mods available for Minetest, most of them add either features from Minecraft that aren't in Minetest or features from existing Minecraft mods.
>>
>>165184302
If you prefer Minetest the game, go help Voxelands out - it's a fork of the pre-let's-become-a-modding-platform Minetest.

I'm not the one using them. It's up to other players not to exit minecarts while they're in use. Also, I can't expect players who haven't encountered high speed rails before to be psychic and know everything about them prior to knowing that they exist.
>>

>>165206097
I did. Even so, it only takes one person to mess things up, if only by accident.
>One person gets out
>Explosion destroys tracks in that area
>Logs out without mentioning it
>From that point forward, everyone who rides that track will encounter the area with destroyed rails
>High speed rails abruptly ending also causes explosions, killing them once they reach that point
>Second player ragequits without mentioning it too, or nobody is online to hear them even if they do want to mention it
>The cycle continues
>Because of this, there've been roughly 1 to 1.5 blown up track sections and minecart-related deaths for every player that's joined my server
It'd be nice if the explosions could be disabled, but there's no configurable option for it. Explosions can also be caused by players willfully removing tracks (hasn't happened yet, but it's always a possibility), any type of mob spawning on the tracks and carts lightly brushing against them, and other causes I'm probably forgetting at the moment.
>>
>>165206606
>there've been roughly ... that I know of *
>Since the rail system is tens of thousands of blocks long and branches out in several directions, I could be missing some

Another cause of explosions that I forgot to mention: dying while in the minecart will also cause an explosion, which I assume is a glitch. The most common example of this is new players underestimating how long 20k+ blocks is, even with signs stating "this track is 24k blocks long," and starving to death while using it since they didn't bring any food.

We've already told you, anything that isn't forge isn't worth it. Why? Because it's taken solid years of collective community contributions to get forge working, if we made a project from scratch it would take several years just to get back to the same point, and that's if it got the same massive attention and support. Then why not make a smaller lean version? Because it would fucking suck, why would any one use a stripped down version when you could turn around and use the one with more features. There, that answers the majority of why we don't do X. Why don't we just fork it and start it without lex? Because we need monkeys and people to actually maintain it, even though him and the people around him suck it's literally better than nothing, not many people have that much disposable time to contribute to a project like that. Another problem is getting every one to use the fork instead, there causes a community split and drama that really fucks with future development, also again people won't move to the fork unless it's better in some way, so that already means your next team is putting in more work then what's already being put into it. Well who cares if it's popular then? The problem there that arises is that why would people develop for a smaller niche pool or users? When you could turn around and deliver your product to a larger audience, same goes for the clients they can just turn around and get access to a wider array of mods. If it's not forge its almost doomed to have less mods, less developers and in general be a shitty platform. Like it or not there isn't much of a choice to make here. Also you can blame asie for not throwing out lex a year ago. Anything else?
>>
Have any of you ever made an impressive complex for your tech mods or do you all just stick it all out in the open or throw it into one big square building?

Im trying to make a traincraft subway track but the tracks are way too big to fit the tight map.
>>165209202
I did the tech inside a dirt hole then I did a beatiful complex but my most of my mods dont fit the theme so the complex is half empty with the mods that do fit but at least is pretty
>>
>>165210671
That's the problem with tech mods. They're all so thematically different and even if they weren't they'd all still likely fit into a single building.

Booooo.

Hogwash

>tfw every time your production ramps up to the point that you can finally go large scale with your base's construction the serb closes.
Usually I start out exploring, gather some nice starting loot and setup a small house or hole in the ground, depending on how fruitful my exploits had been. Get automation going asap then start expanding out into new separate buildings to house every new set of objects. Once I've got enough momentum I start going largescale with buildings.

This has been explained before, an alternative would not only run into legal issues due to proprietary mappings, but would also take 200+ hours of work.
Plus you'd have to convince reddit to leave forge.

what the fuck is enforcing a different mod if I want to play.

Like "no you can't play with guns, use bows instead." Those aren't even a different version of the same mod. it's literally a different gameplay

Please, still need help here. For some reason the forge installer won't install to the technic vanilla modpack also.
>>
>>165231090
you can't use the forge installer on a non-Vanilla launcher. well you might be able if you hack it but that's gonna make shit worse

putting the universal .jar in another launcher won't work either, because of the way Forge patches minecraft on start.

you will need to get MultiMC or to properly use the Forge installer on the vanilla launcher.
>>
>>165231324
Fuck me. The only reason I'm using the technic launcher is because I can't get into the actual minecraft website and get the launcher. What if I found a technic modpack for 1.7.10, removed all the mods I didn't want, and then just added what I do want? Would that work?

It's not random, you take that risk by jumping into a hi-speed track

Blame instead the faggots who don't report these kind of issues (in case the death message was not enough of a red-flag)
