with 30 str and 699 proficiency i got an average of 185 damage on headshot at close range
with 60 str and 699 proficiency i got an average of 196 damage on headshot at close range
with 30 str and 0 proficiency (reimporting the character after each shot) i got an average of 86 damage on headshot at close range

did the same for crossbows though str doesn't scale for crossbows so i just did proficiency
with 699 proficiency i got an average of 139 damage on headshot at close range (siege crossbow, steel bolts, took off the can't use on horseback flag so i could fire at close range)
with 0 proficiency i got an average of 130 damage on headshot at close range
basically str scaling damage is pretty negligible for every weapon type, but proficiency scaling damage is pretty important for everything besides crossbows, though it does improve crossbow's accuracy and load speed
so keep in mind how important proficiency is i guess, especially in mods that use the firearms slot for their guns instead of crossbows like geko does, or slings

I was about half way into dominating Japan with my custom faction so it was late late endgame shit. I really want to keep playing but at the same time I don't want to play 30 hours again.

I think I'll look into some cheats to see if I can somehow cheat my way into getting some of the stuff I had back but I've taken a look online and the cheats in this game seem to be lackluster.

I wonder if anyone has any idea of what the problem is and if there is a solution that doesn't involve having to play all of it again. Or maybe some external cheat or something since the ingame cheats are so bad.

I've tried it and it's alright. The start is extended for non-nobles because of having to factor in prestige as well since you need the ranks for stuff ( I forgot what) Combat is pretty alright since the first tech tier is all native stuff, but later on with higher techs and new troops the different factions felt a bit same-y. Artillery worked surprisingly well with the AI being mostly competent as well as the player being allowed to take control.

Nice. Doing well here so far. I was initially worried about being neighbors to the Holy Roman Empire but mass defections and the war with Polish Principalities has made them a near non-threat. In the process of Conquering the Crown of Aragorn. The Holy Roman Empire is now a boon in that they are my wall against the Polish Principalities, which are competing for mightiest faction with the Kingdom of Hungary and Il-Khanate.

Kingdom of England (pushed back to starting territories, initially resentful) and Emirate of Grenada (conquered both Portugal and Castille) are my next two neighbors and both are slightly stronger than my kingdom ~ Emirate of Grenada has just declared war with England however so if I can conquer Crown of Aragorn quickly enough I may be able to conquer a weakened Emirate and close out my western flank completely.

Afterwards I intend to fortify my position for a while and let the Polish Principalities and Kingdom of Hungary tire out their own kingdoms with the likely mass defections that follows constant defeats and land reassignments.

That is the plan anyways. Due to having high honor I have almost reached a point where the longer the game persists the greater my advantage due to having a lock on 100 relations lords that lose or leave their factions.

With high honor you will be rolling in devoted and good-natured Lord pussy.

The most efficient way to keep other Lords above negative relations is to use a married Lady in one of your cities to bribe them.

Depending on circumstances you may just need to accept that you can't be popular with all of the lords in your kingdom. So long as you don't give dishonorable lords Castles/Towns and prioritize a small pocket of bad disposition Lords it should not be a big deal.

Due to lord relations juggling I find being a Marshal as a King to be pretty disadvantageous. Your Marshalls won't have the same relations loss considerations that you do. Even without relation concerns I still find it more efficient to let an AI Marshall do work while I do my own thing as a separate force.

The only problem with the Ex being a Khergit is seperation from a pure Steppe Waifu.

Of all the Calradians the Rhodoks are the closest to resembling proper civilized humanity. So no problem there.

High honor will give you a positive modifier with upstanding and good-natured lords. Aside relations being generally good these very same Lords; once at 100 relations, will lock at 100 relations making them perfect for castle/town ownership.

Part of the reason many of my 100 relation Lords have no fiefs is that I can keep them indefinitely unassigned without worrying about them losing relations. I tend to be very strict with my Lords being assigned neaby fiefs. A castle/town and an aligned village for example. Or castles/towns in proximity of each other.

186 honor is pretty high but I don't have any internal benchmarks or anything of that sort. I tend to attempt to play mods as blind as possible and attempt to start a kingdom based on intuition.

Seeing as he found a hilt during one of the battle showns at everything that appears in the blade section seems to be all of them I'd say its safe to say that all spearhead shown are the entirety of what was available at the time.
I think they maybe focused on the swords first then began to work on other weapons.

You can base their personality in some flavor text in Native. Other mods may allow you to directly have a chancellor or report page inform you of Lord relations.

Lord quality army will be weak if they don't have any fiefs yes. I would rather they have temporarily weak armies rather than indefinitely deal with bad fief assignment though.

100 relations lock takes a lot of work to achieve and many AI lords have that with their starting kingdom as well. In many instances the only way to recruit such Lords is to destroy their kingdom and hope that they wander into your kingdom for employment. Mods like 1257AD tend to make them easier to recruit due to the extremely high numbers of lords and factions. My Lord roster is not a good indicator for what most kingdom experiences will be like. Especially Native.

Once a kingdom gets sufficiently huge even tiny nations will develop massive balls and begin declare war without pretext. So if the HRE is truly massive that may be a good idea. If I were to gang up against a stronger faction like HRE I might just resolve to help the other ~4 nations conquer as much of the HRE as possible and NOT conquer any land from the HRE myself though. This would serve two purposes:

1) If the HRE remains strong after the coalition loses steam they are unlikely to declare war on you. You are also unlikely to have a fief in the middle of fucking no where.

2) This will prolong the combat between the ~4 kingdoms and most likely weaken all parties overall. Constant fief gain/loss will also weaken relations with many lords of all factions as well.

1257AD Faction nation behavior is almost rational; unlike most Diplomacy mods, in that so long as you don't conquer a fief that was owned by a faction they will typically leave you alone. Whereas if you do conquer a fief from a faction they will fixate on recapturing it and constantly declare war with you (The Kingdom of England declared war on my 3 times because I took Bordeaux from them -- Which of course they took from France. For a while things were very dicey between France, England, and myself).

If you can secure the British isles you will be in a great position due to the corner position offering minimal fronts.

The real challenge is that the Kingdom of England is almost always extremely strong and starting an independent kingdom means that they will likely be much stronger by the time you are strong enough to declare your own kingom.

Otherwise the other advantage is being able to force naval battles. While naval battles are great for IRL time efficiency I find them to be generally a disadvantage to what you can accomplish in the field unless you fighting mounted archer factions -- Such as in the middle east. Naval battles nullify mounted archer mobility and the Crusader State soldiers tend to have much higher quality armor.

the factions on the isles are as follows:
england uses generic euro troops, so identical in unit composition to france, HRE but they have welsh merc kerns (which are crap), merc archers (which are alright) and merc longbowmen (which are good but worse than welsh faction longbowmen)
scotland also has generic euro units but instead of the euro infantry line they get scot infantry, which are either axemen, spearmen, or pikemen which make them pretty unique
ireland has their own irish troop tree, the troops themselfs are ok, but the gaelic mercs are very, very good
wales has their own troop tree, of shitty spearmen, average cavalry (slightly worse than regular euro knights as they don't always get a barded horse), and excellent archers
arguably wales starts in a better position on the isles than the other smaller factions due to the capital having 1200 men, making them harder to steamroll by england
but wales starts at war against england, and wales only has a castle and their capital, and about 4 lords including the king
if you're going to root for ireland or scotland you'll want to start right away and let england fight wales as a distraction in order to build up your manor for manor armies (which you'll need as those small factions, especially as wales)
britannia is an excellent springboard for world conquest, but it'll take a while to build up your forces to take the isles regardless

Eh, it felt boring to me when I played .7, and unless .8 really changed things up its probably the same. I've always felt that OG fantasy mods like Perisno or Po(o)P were bland and boring, with none of the charm or goodness of LoTR or Calradia. You just have to active the cheat menu (ctrl+`, type cheatmenu) and you get the options in menus and dialogs to instantly take castles/towns and forcibly recruit lords to your side. Do those until you're where you were at and then disable the cheat menu (ctrl+`, type nocheatmenu). Be warned that if you allow time to pass while cheat menu is activated you get spammed with absurd amounts of debug messages, so use the teleport cheat and try not to run around much.

Going for early fief ownership is a trap anyways. Its much more profitable to be a mercenary when the best you can expect is some hand me down fief from a faction. Later on it is better to capture a (likely weakened) town yourself then swear vassalage so that you are assured the town and it's adjacent villages (rather than villages spread across the entire map)

You just don't have to pay for the weekly wages, which if you are roaming with a large army and good troops, adds up to quite a substantial drain on your finances. At least, I never had too, the mercenary stipend always increased to be at least slightly higher than the troop wages.

It depends on the mod but you are generally going to profit much more as a mercenary than a vassal. That and in many mods; IIRC Native included, a single village's income can be really pathetic. Especially as an early game lord doesn't really have any defense against Lords raiding their village. Not only will you not receive any income while it is looted but the taxation will be really pathetic while it recovers.

I'm trying anon's 1257 for the first time, I'm trying to figure out how to access the brainybot settings. I'm not sure if they're even installed, the screenshot in the pastebin led me to believe that if I pressed F11 I could use them but that doesn't work.

Is it best to let a castle go if the AI persistently sieges it with its full force?
I've been holding off the Rodok at Harrigoth castle for about 10 sieges now but im running out of troops and they keep showing up in the 800-1000 region of T4's and shit.
I dont have any vassals and my funds are running low now since ive not had a chance to leave.

Troop trees are a mess of redundant and unnecessary choices on top of a lot of unbalanced stats and equipments; speaking of equipments, there are over a thousand items and many are simply out of time and place (for instance, Khergits are equipped as if they were samurais); the expanded version brings new attacking animations that, although they can be reverted back, are shitty nonetheless, and as far as I have played, every time I remove a Kingdom they are brought back immediately after while stealing away one of my faction's castles and its respective owner. Every single time. Some people complain about textures too, but I don't remember them looking bad (although I do remember some villages missing a good chunk of the map, like the houses themselves or bizarre things like that)

I've had a lot of fun while playing the Gameplay version with my own changes with TweakMB and battling bandit leaders to no end, but yeah, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants to conquer Calradia or something.

Floris is good.
The big complaints are that it is anachronistic, it does not perfectly maintain the theme of each kingdom, the troop names are weird, and the attacking animations are worse.
However, I like the big, varied troop trees. Floris is probably my most-played mod, followed by Silverstag.

Also can generally use ridges as cover for advancing cavalry.

Still can be rough to take on those veteran rhodok armies. Once you weaken them I find them easier to deal with.

Does anyone else play ironman mode? I've been through about 400 characters at least and i would say only about 10% of them have been lords, and I've only had 5 monarchs and only 2 were legitimate.

Northvegr and Friese have long since become territories of the greater Danmark Empire.

We also own most of the Eastern coast of Britannia, from Edinburgh down to Dunwic and as far inland as Jorvik.

Half of Hibernia is in arms against us, but the remaining Kingdoms on Britannia are at least being cautious about picking their battles with us, which is fine. I am not looking forward to another campaign into the highlands. Say what you will about the Picts, the bastards know how to build a killzone.

On the home front, I've got Sidroc the Elder to content with. We constantly vie for the position of Marshal, and my being chosen consistently has started to bend his nose out of shape. Battlefield types are regional - 1257AD probably has the best battlefield variety of any mod. Being a mercenary in 1257AD is great partly because it allows you to experience this rather then spend hours in a single region without realizing this.

Probably the best bow in the mod. And for those whom have never played 1257AD: The arrows themselves give +30 damage.

Bows are still really good if you go all in with power draw. Especially as shields have low HP to compensate for their high resistance. My power draw 10 companions have never been so reliable, especially as I can place them in front of my entire army with their >90 armor and >120 arrows.

No. It is literally useless as surgery can only be in effect when the player participates in combat. Meaning that it will never function as a contingency due to the game mechanics.

The lack of piercing damage is definitely noticeable for troops; especially if you are fighting a proper army with armored troops. Power draw 10; along with the masterwork bows and arrows, will allow you to bypass armor thresholds but that is only possible with but it takes a long time for the investment to pay off. Especially as 1257AD companions tend to start at higher levels than many of the Native companions.

Very worth it though since my 13 power draw 10 companions can frequently out kill >60 crossbowmen/archer Sergeant troops. 1257AD does a pretty good job at making missile units support even without the Lance system essentially forcing varied armies.

I wouldn't call Nova Aestas a complete piece of shit. Along with Perisno, it's one of the few mods that competently incorporates other mods like Diplomacy, Freelancer, PBOD, and a lot of other conveniences like faction troops trees. The new assets in the mod are also modeled fairly decently as well but I think he got lazy as I'm sure I've seen a few of the armors/helmets with the exact same stats and model from different mods. Don't really care for the trait system and think its mediocre. religion is half-implemented. The class-ranking system seems a bit restrictive when starting out and completely irrelevant when you get to nobility.

I know that promising shit and not delivering is terrible, but the polar opposite is ALSO terrible. A middle ground is needed. I had an idea to allow for server side custom items but honestly I'm not sure if it can be made to work... more likely, servers will have to use hacky solutions, like sending you a message with the name and details. Originally the plan was to make it as open to server-side mods as possible, and hope it ends up a bit like siege where the most popular servers have all sorts of crazy, community-driven features that we couldn't easily support in the official game. Honestly the MP population is fairly low. I think that has to do with the structure (lack of matchmaking, persistence etc.) and age of the game... it's a shame though and I hope something changes. We've had a few console players asking for invasion, so when we push that out, maybe it will encourage more activity. There are also some other changes that I hope we can make, which might encourage more MP activity but no guarantees that either we can do them or they'll be effective!

The game actually sold reasonably well though, so there is a user-base. It also has good ratings on the stores and the reception has been generally positive. Can only assume they're playing single player.

I don't think it's really fair to accuse us of unnecessarily raising expectations. Game development is notoriously hard to predict. A lot of the time, when people are asking for a release, they fail to specify if that means closed/open beta, early access, full release etc. If you're asking about some form of external testing, "sorry we can't say anything right now" is an accurate response because it's what we're driving towards but hard to know exactly when we can achieve it. Our approach has the best intentions of avoiding giving definite information when these things are simply not clear, even to us. My hope is that the majority of people understand and appreciate that. Sheer persistence I am afraid. It helps that defensive sieges can go on forever and that armor is so good that my companions can solo bandit parties with minimal or no losses even when there are over a hundred of them.

I imagine much of it is from me. My early plan in most mods is to join as a mercenary for the faction involved in the most wars or getting their shit kicked in. This both maximizes the amount of combat I have and helps keep a single faction from becoming excessively strong for when I declare my own kingdom.

1257AD is the only mod where I haven't been able to keep all factions alive before creating my own kingdom actually. 1257AD is so massive that it creates a new problem for massive kingdoms: This being mass defections and spontaneous faction coalitions. This is especially as the Marshal system only allows the AI to dedicate themselves to one objective at a time.

So maximizing the amount of fief reassignments helps too even if you can't keep every faction alive.

This is ridiculous, you can't put stuff out or newcomers will get too confused? I find it hard to believe that at a stage of development where several gameplay videos have been shown off, the game is still typically in a state where all graphics are incomplete and screenshots can't be taken. There are lots of different things that screenshots can be taken off; there's scenes obviously which I expect there's more trouble with, but also the map, loading screens, menu screens, trading/inventory screnes, etc. There must be SOMETHING in all that that's in a state you can show.

I wouldn't necessarily describe Ankara as conservative. Certainly parts of it are more conservative than others but overall it's a place of business and study. Lots of people come here from all over Turkey for those purposes and with so many educated, young people around, it doesn't feel oppressively conservative much of the time. People are *generally* nice and respectful.

Most people here will say that the city is boring, and there's nothing to do. I sort of resent that because there are enough bright people around that they could make something happen, instead of wasting energy complaining about it. In any case, I tend to avoid the city centre/public transport etc. when I can these days, owing to the fairly unpleasant year and a half of frequent attacks and problems with terror. Which is a big shame.

I'm not a huge fan of this question... it seems to entail the belief that if games just support multi-threading, then performance problems will be solved and any game will run on any hardware. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little but the truth is I don't know, and that the reality of multi-threading is far more complex than I understand, or this question implies. Also, the answer to this question is rarely a simple yes or no. My vague understanding is that the structure of the code itself needs to be specifically engineered for multi-threading support to work fully, however some things can be separated into different threads with relative simplicity (I've heard sound is one of those things). It may be the case that our game does something like this but as I said, I'm not sure. Sorry for the ratty response... this one just bugs me a little. Honestly, I don't know what you expect to establish from a response, whether it's yes or no, or (what's probably true in our case) partial.

Is the latest ACOK version any good? I saw in the changelog that he made random events less crippling, which may mean Cozur is being less of a cunt. Wouldn't count on it though.

Anything you can tell us about new kingdom management features besides what we already got? (More fief construction options, bartering system, influence system) I always felt that M&B would benefit from more macro development since the micro/medium scope has always been it's strong point.

Currently all of the melee weapons in the game are craftable (and in fact all weapons in the game use the crafting system, i.e. are essentially modular). Some types of weapons are made up from two pieces (polearms), some from four (swords... perhaps only swords). Obviously when you have the potential to combine four different items and dozens of choices for each, with each of them scaleable, that amounts to an insanely high number of possibilities. As for scope, though, it's just the melee and throwing weapons right now.

It's harder to answer "anything you can tell us" questions, since I'm really only here to clarify and that's too vague to indicate where you might not have fully understood information we've released.

In general I would say though, that our goal is still to capture the feeling of being an individual who can influence the world, rather than controlling your faction like a hive-mind, as you do in a strategy game. That goal is one of the reasons for the influence system we've talked about before. However, that isn't to say we haven't improved the slickness and level of interaction you can have with kingdom management.
