How many do you have so far? Random move-ins stop once you've got 9.

If you have 9 villagers, you can get another to move in by recruiting them from the campsite, recruiting them when they're moving out of another village, scanning in an Amiibo villager card, or interacting with someone who has an occupied void (see the OP).

If you have 8 or less villagers, you can all of the above, or get a random move in like when you first started the town.

Just do the update. It doesn't add anything that really gets in the way of the normal game.

It adds a campground with new items on the side of your map that you can visit when you want, and it adds a new storage you can buy for your house at Tom Nook. It also gives you an item that can summon wisp if you have amiibo, if not then you can just put them item somewhere in your locker. That's the biggest changes.

Not all of them are good, sure. I really want the monochrome GB Kirby badges. They were in the arcade like once, over a year ago, and haven't been seen since. Animal Crossing badges are very under-represented as well for that matter. They bring 'em out for holidays and then they just sort of vanish.
