You know the whole ps3nogaems meme thing that wore off after a while? Well vitanogames thing never really did, especially since the library is mostly a mix of niche-interest exclusives and multiplatform/ported normie games. So it's easy for people with no interest in the exclusives to just write off the others ("lol I'd rather just play it on ps4/pc") and say vita has no games and bully it.

Most handheld gamers having 3DS is probably a factor as well. I'm sure there are people from both sides slinging mud to feel superior about their choice, but the 3DS-only side just has more people overall.

Essentially, Nintenbabbies saw how much better it was than the 3DS and at the same price all the way back in 2011 (when the 3DS itself was floundering, before the pricedrop and the ambassador program) and the FUD started from there.
The launch lineup was solid, but then a few highly anticipated games (which were set to be holiday blockbusters) ended up flopping (Unit 13, Call of Duty, etc.).
After that, there was no normie appeal but hardcore niche fans still bought games with passion (Sony even said it has a 7:1 average attach rate) a few niche titles which Sony backed also flopped in sales despite being great games (Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars) and were ultimately failures so Sony decided to pull first party support.
Since then, it's been puttering along with third party support, PS4 ports and indie games.
Still going strong if you're a fan, but I can't see it being any good for someone coming on as a new owner, you really need to dig to find the good stuff.

I feel like vita has a lack of comfy games, especially as a handheld console. Ignoring the psp library for a second, does vita have anything like harvest moon, fantasy life, animal crossing, etc. where you just do day to day stuff and go at your own pace? The closest I can think of are minecraft and terraria which aren't bad on vita, but are ultimately ports. And even terraria is shared with 3DS which arguably has better controls for the game.

Vita does have great games, but I think this is one area where it's pretty weak as a handheld specifically.

There are only like 5 variations of enemies in FW, but vitagen will play it with you almost any time you offer to have a lobby.

It's a hit or miss for a lot of anon, but it's honestly not that bad of a game in my opinion. There's a lot of fun to be had.

quadrupeds
tigers
spiders
dragons (post game only)
octopus
and small enemies

bipeds and quadrupeds can have either normal upper torsos, cannon torsos, or pod torsos, they are outfitted with different weapons like guns or lasers or anti ranged weapon shields and can come in some alternate colors to indicate elemental resistances. The rest are the same apart from looking shinier and cleaner (to indicate tiers) and having an anti range shield or not.

Enemy variety is probably one of the worse faults of FW.

FW has its ups and downs. I, for one, like how smoothly it controls compared to most hunting games. It switches between shooting and melee easily, attacks move pretty smoothly and the thorn mechanic adds considerably to the maneuverability of the game. It also has a cool as fuck dystopian setting and the opening hours of the game feel like they live up to the oppressive promise. Lastly, the character creator is probably the best you'll find on any handheld game, it's pretty fucking fantastic. However, the story quickly nosedives into pointlessness and the atmosphere of the early game is soon lost, there's simply not a lot of enemy variety, there's a difficulty spike right before the story endgame that makes solo pretty unfun, combat can feel less weighty than other hunting games since it feels noticeably quicker, and just wait until you try to grasp the game's upgrade system - it's its own hell if you don't have autism-level dedication to RNG and even real-time waiting with factories. It's always fun with people and there's definitely some promise but overall FW is very much a flawed game, if not one that I'd love to see a sequel where the kinks are ironed out.

This is a whole new level of autism

Severing in general becomes increasingly tedious against Alpha enemies since your severing dps can't keep up with how much health and defense alpha enemies have. Mk9 is also completely inferior to the damascus knife, in fact it's one of the few cases of a straight upgrade when it comes to melee weapons.

It's more how poorly balanced the game is at that particular moment, especially if you just played solo up to that point. CODE 8 missions are a cakewalk with post-game weapons and upgrades but unless you've grinded rets early and ate the penalties you shouldn't have access to that stuff yet, nor should you have access to the girl that removes mods if I'm not mistaken, and even if I'm wrong on that last point you still wouldn't have the points to take advantage of it unless, again, you grinded post-game rets early. Assuming you've only solo'd the game up to that point, CODE1-6 are easy enough to not require a grind or proper understanding of the game's deeper mechanics, you can cakewalk by with casually upgrading your weapons. From the CODE 7 exam onwards, shit spikes and you're jarred out of that complacency that the game does absolutely nothing beforehand to suggest that you need to start actually understanding the game. I think that's why the spike happens, and that has nothing to do with encountering Peltanum for the first time, whose idiosyncrasies are so obscure that there is virtually zero chance of understanding how to beat him the first time you see him, or even intuitiving it without a guide or experienced player spelling it out for you.
