How do I start GalCiv2? Never played a GalCiv game before, what's the general approach?
>>
>>164578439
It's exactly the same game as Civ 3, except IN SPACE.

In other words, a fairly traditional 4x. Explore, expand, exploit, exterminate. Stay friendly with xenos until you're sure you know what's going on (you don't start with boarding ship technology, so if a war starts you can't really win anyway). Expand as quickly as you can afford, so that you can develop places instead of leaving them to the alien.

'Exploit' is kinda hard in GalCiv, since the economic system is seriously counterintuitive, but if your brain is wired the right way you might be able to make sense of it.
>>
>>164578860
>>164578439
Also note that GalCiv2 was developed before the insidious 'tall' meme corrupted the once-fun 4x genre. You are expected to nurture a galactic civilization, not micromanage the development of your home planet until auto-winning the game on a contrived victory condition for pacifists.

Thanks. I started a game with the jew looking guys who make a lot of money and are lucky. I spammed colony ships in the first dozens of turns. a space hydra destroyed one of my scouts. When should I get into ship making or military activity? What sort of research line is better for beginners?
>>
>>164580640
Always keep enough military to dissuade attacks by your rivals. I, and many people, tend to be soft in the beginning in order to leverage research and expansion, but this game does have a lot of militaristic civs that will conquer you if they can.

Civ VI aint even close to be one of the decent games of 2016.
And now we may not even get to mod it to make it bearable. It's doomed if this turns out to be right.

>>164599221
It depends on the rest of the design. If there is nothing out there other than points of interest (such as star systems), and all the action happens inside of them, then there's probably no point having a grid. If you want to have a tactical game where positioning matters in the same way as Civ, then use a grid.

At this point, though, it's clear that most space game 4x players are low-end people who want an RPG with a thin veneer of strategy. For them, a realtime (pausable) game is best, and for that you may as well use continuous space.
>>
>>164599221
Haven't played enough of them, but maybe a grid could make them more interesting. The expanding part seem pretty lacking in space 4x compared to other 4x and maybe if they were more designed around grid that could be fixed.

Why do you believe that grids encourage expansion?
>>
>>164600358
Not encourage, improve.

Colonization in nodes is a matter of y/n, there's no placement of your city to see where you can fit it in and which materials you can grab, which potential future city you may block by placing that city, and how the overlapping affects your other cities negatively.
>>

Prioritizing gold or even defenses does little. No matter what I focus on, I'm always perfectly fine with culture and science and always behind in defense and gold. The only exception are cities that just happened to be net to a lot of gold producing tiles which help alleviate poverty. I'm surprised this hasn't happened to you in most of your games.

It's not only about prioritizing, you have to build Aqueduct line of buildings to reduce poverty threshold and military buildings to reduce crime threshold. Raising yields won't do much on its own.

>>
>>164601548
In space games, you already know where your cities go. On planets and asteroids. This whole city placement set of mechanics you're talking about is only relevant in ground-based games like Civilization.
>>
>>164609896
Yes.
Which is why the expanding element of a 4x set in space isn't nearly as interesting as they are in 4x set not in space.
At least so far. For example if you had a grid you could use a different system in a space 4x that mimics city placement of non space 4x.

Vodyani are probably my favorite so far.
Spiritual successor to one of the best fantasy factions of all time? Cool as fuck colonizing mechanic? Purge the heretics? Sexy as fuck chicks? What's not to like?

A few important details about arks:
>The cost for an ark is always your essence cap.
>Improvements are bound to the Ark, not the system its in.
>Because of this you can't build planet specializations since everything is ark.
>Each pop on the ark counts as a pop for each planet, meaning if you have two pop each colonizable planet has two pops each.
>A hero put onto an ark fleet is put as its system's governor, and if you put them as governor they become the ark captain should you pack up.
>Arks do NOT give a shit about enemy influence. You can put one right next to a UEF homeworld and it will happily stick itself onto that system.
>There are support modules unique to the ark that give flat system boosts, so if you have a specific system in mind for an ark you can customize an ark for that specific system.
>Arks ONLY need essence or strategic resources should you choose to upgrade. No industry.
>They also only need one turn to complete.
>Ark colonies can be killed off both the traditional way of invasion or just killing the ark itself.
>However arks can be reclaimed in the system is destroyed.
Probably more shit about them to be found but that's what I gleaned from my first playthrough.

Its a really fucking neat mechanic that seems broken as fuck until you realize that unlike other races where colonization becomes easier as they expand Vodyani actually slows down a LOT as they expand. I don't care how much dust you're raking in for alms 500 flat increase per previous ark hurts.
Now talking about ES2, does anyone know what specifically governs your influence/sensor range? Is it one resource in particular or just net worth of a system?

Lad, Aurorafags literally start with 5000 km per SECOND missiles. That's their starter missile. And don't get me started on high fantasy mods or custom mods.
>>
>>164654874
I don't think theirs much in the way of space travel out side of basic interplanetary stuff, since like you said, the majority of travel is done through Quantum Gateways. Though I imagine designing and manufacturing a competent planetary defense fleet wouldn't be too hard since the factions in game can whip up Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, 1000 meter tall mech, and city-sized flying saucers in a couple of minutes.
>>
>>164655264
>1000 meter tall
Sounds incredibly fucking weak to basic gravity magic.
>>
>>164655339
It probably uses the same anit-gravity bullshit that makes the giant flying saucer stay up in the air, so I guess the question would be how much could it's anti-grav engine hold up against said gravity magic.
>>
>>164655481
The giant saucer could concieveably just be a gyrating disc with a series of pointed ram jet engines, but my point was less squashing it and more making it fall off-balance.

I like that game, because it fucking makes sense. In a lot of strategy games, you start your campaign with shitty low-tier units, and you unlock them.

That game fully makes sense of that, as if a general is less experienced than the units he commands, they'll lose morale. So a new general will always have inexperienced units.
>>
>>164656225
>That game fully makes sense of that, as if a general is less experienced than the units he commands, they'll lose morale
...literally where the fuck are you getting this retarded shit from? A legendary general who's won in seemingly impossible positions multiple times or has a reputation for only fighting when he's certain of victory obviously gets a morale boost but the entire point of actual professionals is that they won't be horribly affected by a new general, since that general is supposedly qualified if the higher ups put him there.
Your system is some kind of retarded 800 AD personal levy shit, like if the general is more experienced his troops magically get better.
>>
>>164656447
You don't seem to understand how that game works.
Generals aren't generated, you promote them yourself. So it's perfectly possible to name a guy who's completely inept.

>it's perfectly possible to name a guy who's completely inept
So what you're telling me is that the soldiers have no confidence at all in you, the leaderhip I was talking about? Morale penalties for generals on a losing streak? Sensible. Morale penalties for new generals who don't have some sort of trait that actually reduces morale explictly? Retarded.
>>
>>164657962
There's no losing steak. Just combat and leadership stats.
>>
>>164658027
And what you're telling me is that a new general gets an explicit penalty to his troop quality? How does that make sense? Explain to me why the general cannot be assigned to your Legio I which has been through hundreds of battles and is full of hardened warriors.
>>
>>164658125
>And what you're telling me is that a new general gets an explicit penalty to his troop quality?
What the fuck.
No, what I'm saying is that if a normal soldier is more experienced than your general, he'll lose morale and eventually desert or betray you.
Morale doesn't impact the unit's combat efficiency.
>>
>>164658190
>No, what I'm saying is that if a normal soldier is more experienced than your general, he'll lose morale and eventually desert or betray you.
And explain to me how the actual fuck that makes sense? A piss-shit rifleman or swordsman who's been to a lot of battlefields decides that because the general is on his first or second campaign, the soldier will betray you?
>>
>>164659260
You make me wonder if I'm bad at explaining or if you're just dense.
That sounded pretty intuitive when I played the game, yet you insist on not understanding it.
>>
>>164660068
Maybe I'm tired, but I seriously see no valid reason why a 'new' general would somehow get deserted by experienced soldiers.

EL is superior in every way unless you're a history fag, then you should rather play EU IV if you dont mind it not being a 4X.

I'm not gonna touch a Civ game until they add something really knew and interestning and not small stuff like districts and civics which are just small bonus numbers. I want something that really alters the way its played.

Give USA something like CIA, NSA and FBI and sabotage other peoples tech or steal it or give insight information. Give Russia something like KGB where it can assassinate important people. Make us assign historic persons to different positions in our empire like foreign affairs, scientists, generals etc... And make KGB able to kill some without anyone knowing how they died etc... Ofc other people need this ability too so you cant know for sure its KGB but make them excell at it for example.

Give us something to really differentitate the countries instead of some units and wonders with minor stat changes. FUCK!

But alas, this will trigger political correctness and SJW retards who wont allow fun to be had.

If you really want to have a comfy micromanage game, then Victoria 2, Anno 1404 and Cities Skylines.

If you want comfy micromanageable 4X then maybe Endless Legend or Distant Worlds at slowest speed setting.

EL is micromanagable as in always utilizing your troops doing quests and searching caves, replacing citizens in one of the 5 categories for maximum utilization (Food, Industry, Dust, Science and Influence), spying everywhere and watch what all the other players/AI do.

But I guess you want more of a slow real time 4X, then Stellaris and DW is one of the few.

Grand strategy generally don't have eXpand. You can argue that Eu4 has an extremely basic version of it through colonization that is something that you can disregard entirely for most nations. Settling new cities in civ falls under eXpand, effectively creating new control points, taking cities from your opponents falls mainly under eXterminate.

It's a oversimplified Anno: Excel Sheet edition.

Each of the things you do in it is on its own "plane" where each of the "planes" kinda share number with each other.

Anno where about city building, trade routes, supply lines, prodiction and growing.

2205 is just an extremely boring version of Offworld Trading Company (which is actually a good game).

I just hope they return to what made Anno 1404 so great after all the shitty (and justified) reception 2205 got.

But good for you that you liked it, but I was hoping for a Anno game when they make a Anno game.

A stealthy/invisible annoying faction that steals your resources and tech while killing of citizens that you always have to be afraid of because you'll never know when he's coming.
>teleport behind you

Also, would be great to have a faction that could control the pirates with the use of influence and dust.

I guess I should go play EL instead, I just hope that the factions for ES2 get's more flavor and cool traits than what they have right now in the early access.
>>

ES2 already takes a lot from EL. The interface, how research is done, the way skill trees work. It does plenty of stuff in its own right like that fucking awesome senate system and the way trading and colonies work now, but it feels a lot more inspired by EL than the original ES, so we're probably going to see our fair share of gimmicky factions in the future.

Keep in mind there's still like five major factions yet to be seen, and only one is effectively confirmed (vaulters), so there's plenty of potential for gimmicks out the ass. We've already seen through the Vodyani that they're not shy about going full crazy.
>>
>>164703019
You'd know the research tree is actually being worked on to be more like ES1, if you followed the news.

I like the tech tree in ES1 better than EL for giving more choices, BUT each of the techs im EL have a lot more impact on the gameplay.

What I want the most is a group of factions that are as diverse as in EL. Playing Morgawr, Forgotten, Cultist, Broken Lords and Necrophages feels like 5 very different games even from turn 1.

The factions in ES1 had almost no diversity. I'm hoping they take what we loved from EL and turn it up to 11 with a dash of ES flavor.

Give us 10 brand new, but just as impactful faction gimmicks like we have in EL, but dont copy them.

It depends a lot on the terrain and my setup.

This game I started taking some nodes as soon as I had a my first storm giant summoned basically.

With 11 sorcery tomes I could start with summon storm giant and Flight, so after I summoned the giant and I cast flight on him.
That way sorcery nodes that were protected by nagas and phantom creatures were easily taken care of. Shoot as many down as I had ammo. Hold space until combat ends in a draw, then next turn do the same as the node was cleared.

In my last 11-life game I didn't clear a node until extremely late in the game because I was kinda squished.

Ranged fliers are good for most nodes.

It's best to scout the node with some kind of unit to know the exact contents of the node.
You may read that node contains Great Wyrms, and then think that you can fly in with your super hero, but then it could contain 5 great wyrms and 4 spiders and your hero gets webbed and killed in the first turn of combat.

Pic shows from my last game when I attacked a node with 8 elven lords(I think they were all Elite with magical weapons) and a ranged hero.

The sky drake killed 2 units of elven lords in the second round of combat iirc, and then it tried to maneuver over to my hero, but I kept blocking its path so the drake tried to move around the elven lords.

Elven Lords are top tier normal units.
If I was able to web the sky drake and bring it down to the ground my elven lords could've probably taken care of it.
Sky Drakes are incredibly dangerous if they get to do the initative though since they then deal 20 armor piercing damage before the normal combat exchange occurs, this kills a lot of units in their entirety before they get to retaliate.

Chaos Nodes are generally the easiest end game while Nature and Sorcery Nodes may have compositions that you may have to suffer great losses to break down.

Well.
No. Civ is no similar. Is 4x game - you start with one city/settler, explore world, build more cities, fight barbarians and other players, upgrading cities and terrain around it and then take over the world or send your guys into space.
So no.
>Advance Wars
Look into Open General(free clone of Panzer General II). II WW(more with mods) with plenty of campaigns, units that you can upgrade and can gain levels and unique perks and permanent army that follow you from battle to battle
>Fire Emblem
Battle Brothers - its EA so beware. You lead company of merc and slaughter orcs, goblins undead and bandits for profit. Level up guys and collect best merc and unique weapons and armors.
Battle for Wesnoth - fantasy version of Panzer General

Civ games are full blown strategy, while FE - tactics.
I guess you can try King's Bounty: The Legend. It has a lot of tactical battles and, unlike Heroes of Might and Magic, you are not limited in time.
Silent Storm is about tactics (just get a GoG version if you plan to buy/pirate it), where you play as a party of particular people and level them up.
X-Com is tactics, but has a strategic management outside of missions.
Valkyria Chronicles is tactics, but is a lot more anime than aforementioned examples.

When this happened to me first time a whole colony of robots suddenly left their planet - then the energy surge happened, i thought it was the AI rebellion but then I was very disappointed to see I was actually being annihilated by purgists.

Actually I won against them with an 80k fleet fairly quick, against 2x 50k of their fleets actually 3 of them but third only came when portal was almost done.

40 battleships with giga or mega canons ( depends on what you had researched ) with large kinetic artillery and one L marauder missile
Destroyers ( 80 - 100 ) with 2 medium whirlwind missiles and 2 S autocannons

And I also used 100 - 130 corrvettes for junk dmg sunking - but not because I needed them - I already had them built so what I did to make them somewhat useful was to give them 1x neutron torpedo - because of the long ranged energy bypass potential before they died.

But anyway If I needed damage sinkers I would make cruisers at that point instead of corvettes.

This build means they're dead fairly quick, just rush towards them really quick - alternatively if they had time to build up just lure their ships with another fleet and go straight for portal.

Kinda like that other game (I think it was Total Annihilation, or one of its fan sequel), you have several kind of factories :
>vehicle factories, that are versatile,
>bot factories, that are cheap and fast but fragile
>air factory, that are fast and efficient but fragile and expensive
>naval factory, that I couldn't try
>orbital factory, that send stuff in the stratosphere
The interesting thing is that unlike un SupCom where you upgrade your factories, you just build a T1 worker in a T1 factory, said T1 worker can build a T2 factory, but only of its type. A T2 bot factory cannot build a T2 vehicle factory.
You can mix workers to avoid that.
And here is a T2's building list, with a building that looks nice.

While the Ragnarok is being built, I try a T2 defense point : a bot cannon.
Yeah, it shoots bot.

>I don't really understand how the economy works
My economy usually is:
Build material extractors
Build generators
(optional)build tier 2 extractors/generators
Build orbital factory
Build real orbital factory (one in a geosync. orbit)
Set autobuild to energy sats and fighters

And then i don't have to worry about energy anymore
I'd upload webms of neat stuff you can do, however, they weigh too much

Yup, in fact, you can even create "timed" maps where you have to win before the planets collide and you don't have where to play.

Or use a death-star laser to destroy an asteroid that has thrusters and it's flying towards you (i think they give you an achievment for this).

Or, my favourite, carpet-nuking some world. ~200 nukes and then you only need to land, reclaim the wreckage and build new structures.

Counterpoint: Kharak was a shithole that in the game's manual with resources that had already been mostly extracted by the kiith and was basically starting the slow process of desertifying to death, in no small part thanks to Gaalsien. ADW'ing a planet like Kharak implies you want to colonize a shithole like Kharak in the first place.

FTL pretty much started it all. However, it was feature-complete winnable game ready for "release" (modern definition of release) long before kickstarter was even announced. Extra money mostly went into creating content.

Are Etherium and Grey Goo worth it? I need advanced answers, complete with arguments to support your opinions!

>grey goo
No, I got like 20 minutes of fun out of it then realised it was just as soulless and boring as 90% of modern RTS games.
>>
>>164802513
I can't say anything about Etherium but Grey Goo is alright for what is. The different factions play incredibly differently and each has their own appeal.

Its biggest problem right now is that its a multiplayer game that doesn't have a playerbase. The campaign while interesting is also really short, and the bonus levels you get from that DLC aren't really that great.

It really just suffers from a general lack of post launch support with the only real thing added was a faction and a couple campaign levels, no maps to the best of my knowledge.

Its not a great game but I enjoyed my time spent on it.
>>
>>164802875

So I'm playing on an Insane game with a medium galaxy, and I started on a Ringworld with the FE Expanded mod with some self-enforced rules to up the difficulty.

>No colonization outside of ringworlds
>No allies, no protectorates, only tributaries
The biggest impact has been limiting my fleet size, but I caught up on FE's tech in the first 100 years thanks to two platforms teching up, the other two doing power and minerals respectively.

The Unbidden have invaded, but they're not doing much to expand in the fifty years that they've been here. A materialist FE woke up, but they're mostly just chilling in their part of space. I've taken on the role of the boogeyman, sitting in my little enclave with doomsday-equipped supercapitals and generally starting wars to purge a spot of the galaxy to acquire whatever strategic resources I need to finish restoring my ringworld. Even started repairing the Cybrex ringworld from the precursor event.

But is there a way to get the materialist FE to start aggressively expanding? It seems all they want to do is jerk off with the other AI and start a federation while the unbidden are around. But so far, it seems like the Unbidden are all that's keeping them from declaring war on me, despite hating my guts for blowing up who knows how many worlds by now.

Rate of fire is honestly something that I haven't felt like is an issue in the fights during my most recent conflicts. I dunno about that one. Sometimes I worry that a businessman in office could be the next step towards eliminating the remaining barriers companies try to keep between the government and their customers. Sometimes I think a businessman whose only concern is himself is a curve-ball the other sectors of the government needs.

Excess energy (in green) should be somewhere close to the sum of all the things that require energy to function at all.
>Weapons energy use
>Sublight engines
>Shield recharge

It doesn't have to be dead on exact because your ship will not always be at maximum energy use.
Just remember that ships fly into (and out of) combat at 'sprint' speed, but generally stay at 'cruise' when firing unless they're slower and cant keep up.
So picking a number somewhere between 'cruise' and 'sprint' is a good ballpark.

Weapons often get pegged on energy, epsecially if you have a single type or types with similar ranges.
It's best to take this number as is, unless you're using a dedicated standoff kiting build (then you only need to worry about missiles/torpedoes energy use).

Shields draw energy from the reactor to recharge. The amount they draw is = to the recharge rate in the defence box bottom right.

Energy has priorities as well. Engines are first, then shields, and weapons last.
Your design here is quite underpowered (looks like it only has 1 quantum reactor) so you'll find that when it gets into combat the weapons will spurt out in a blob at first and then slow down to a trickle as the energy runs dry.
This is for 2 reasons.
First your energy output is barely enough to run the engines, so this ship will choke in combat (unless the battle ends on the first pass).
Second, reactors don't just create energy. They store it.
Look in the energy box. The storage increases as you add reactors, and more storage means you can fly harder and fight longer before you have to rely on reactor throughput alone.

For the design in the screenie, you should be looking at a green number of somewhere around ~450 ish. Preferably higher.
(364+85+22 = 471)
A ship of this size and loadout wants at AT LEAST 3 reactors, maybe 4.

And remove the medical bay. It is a waste of space & energy on a combat ship.

So yes.
>>
>>164839812
This is excellent, I've got a fair bit more to keep in mind now when redesigning everything.
You wouldn't happen to know why resupply ships can't seem to unload troops onto hostile planets? I figured I'd throw troops onto resupply ships throw on construction bays to see if I could make a mothership/mobile CnC type deal but it can do nothing but refine gas to fuel. Not to say that is bad, that is the ship operating as intended, I presume.

Supply ships can be a bit odd.
They were only ever intended to be giant mobile fuel cans, so some of the ship commands were never really debugged or anything.

I am 100% confident that a supply can repair other ships if it has a construction yard AND 1x each manufacturing plant.
Just never try to build anything with it. ONLY repair stuff. Otherwise it does *interesting* things.

Troop bays I've never tried myself, although several people have said they've done it just fine.
I don't think the context cursor works right for troop/supply ships. Try selecting the ship (on it's own) and right clicking the planet and telling it drop troops here.

And another quirk. Supply ships don't play very well with fleets.
If you have a fleet with a supply in it, and you deploy it somewhere then tell the fleet to refuel there. The supply will undeploy in an effort to refuel at itself, which will then cancel the rest of the fleets order as the supply is no longer deployed and a valid fuel source.
You can still select individual ships or bandbox them and right click refuel here on the supply.
They work a lot better and with a lot less micro if you keep them on thier own, or in a fleet by themselves.

This is what I attempted with little success. I did have supply ships in fleets though, so that may have been the issue. They've been phased out by troop transports by this point mostly.
Bombing planets for years on end hasn't been going too well. I need to land troops.

I loved Warcraft III's level editor; it struck the perfect balance of power and ease of use. You could edit almost any aspect of the game without knowing the first thing about programming. These guys. Are. A fucking. PAIN.

This is what the 'Dread Pirates' look like, and they are essentially peak thrush.

If you have disasters enabled and someone's tech passes some vaguely ill-defined point, these guys spawn with a fortified base and a ton of ships.
Ships which are set up to be 'better' than anything anyone is currently fielding (adjusted for current tech).
They can actually ignore size limits if you have max construction tech.
And they fly around as a fleet and just stomp anything they can find - ESPECIALLY ports.

When you first meet them, they'll be faster than you, hit harder, and can tank damage better.
Fighting them with midagame tech is a complete slog.

But the most annoying thing about them is even if you defeat them, in 10 years or so they'll spawn again with updated tech and wreck everything all over again.

They are the #2 thing to disable if you want a comfy game.
(#1 being the Shakturi story.)

Crap.
There were two remaining sorcery nodes in the world, both containing sky drakes, so both could have extra sorcery tomes as a reward.
Went for one of them and got some items and a spell, and then Sss'ra cleared the other one.

Every spellbook above 7 gives you a 10% discount on casting cost in that spell school.
You can start with 11 in one school, and you can go up to 13 with rewards.
So right now with 12 spellbooks I have 90% reduced casting cost when it comes to summoning spells in the sorcery school.
50% from spellbooks, 25% from conjurer, 15% from sorcery mastery.

I summon the occasional Phantom Beast for 4 mana, but I haven't used them that much.
Phantom Warriors Cost 1 which is kinda fun.

Depends a lot about what I'm facing. I have an army of flying storm giants, flying warships, flying hero and sky drakes so I tend to not need magic during combat.

If I had gotten the cost down to 0 I could've filled the entire map with sky drakes in a single turn and razed every enemy town.

If by 'fragile' you mean 'can tank the destruction of entire galaxies and/or regenerate the HP loss from standing inside a detonating black hole instantaneously'. Though, yes, if you fuck up your power generation requirements your antimatter generator will go critical and detonate your entire ship. Or if a weapon gets to that Antimatter Generator it'll detonate the ship etc.

SR's ships are both the tankiest and the most fragile - it all comes down to who's making them, the difference in TLs between designs, and what's firing at them.

Eh I mean, Distant Worlds is probably my favorite spess game but I'll admit that it could have used some polish in the tech tree. Race-specific techs adds another layer differentiating races which is nice. But because I have all the options presented before me, it makes the most economic sense to just go with the most optimized path each time. I like the idea of random techs and the unpredictability that you as a player must then account for.

Civ 6 is pretty okay, the AI is more retarded than it should be and the early/early-mid game is pretty inflexible, and religion is a joke, but there's some fun to be had and it's definitely more complete than either Civ IV or V on release.

Able to take on entire squads singlehandedly
In fact, in Warlock there was a ghost hero that was inmune to melee, ranged and death magic, and i usually buffed him to the point that i could send him alone to other dimensions to exterminate anything in there so i could build new cities in peace

Archmage gives -50% chance for enemies to dispel, Sorcery Mastery does the same for Sorcery spells.
I have both but I've had a spell get disjunctioned before.
Maybe it's %Chance*0,5*0,5 or they don't stack.

Terran Confederacy developed tech to control Zerg. Which worked until the rebellion where the tech was lost.
Terran Dominion and Minsk declared war on everyone, unsuccessfully, caused the whole Queen of the Zerg thing to happen.
United Earth Directorate decided to be isolationist, rediscovered Zerg control tech, things were finally improving to the point of near Terran Confederacy level. The protagonists of the game decided that isolationist meant "conquer the galaxy any day now" and blew up the Zerg control tech fucking everything up even more.

You can also give them tech if you feel like its a safe investment.

Holy shit, I had no idea. That sounds a lot easier than building an outpost just to support an observation post. If I wanted xenos (who aren't even human) in my empire, I'd put my armies to work.

I wish there was a way to technologically regress species like the Forerunners do it Halo.

I'd love to be able to defeat some ayys and exile them to their homeworld with only primitive technology and a observation post in orbit with permission to anal probe to their heart's content.

I'm not xenocidal, I just don't what anyone in the galaxy who can potentially threaten my benevolent rule.

Imagine that combined with the ability to properly influence natives ethics.

>fuck empire up so hard they go back to the middle ages
>establish a post to watch them and slowly convert them to my ethics
>bring them back to the galactic scene, either via a military invasion and subjugation or by uplifting them and making them think you're their new best friend

Deviant has the same ethics cost as encouraging free thought, which at least gives you extra science. Corrupting the minds of your people leads to them becoming unhappy as their government (you) is unable to simultaneously conform to all of their contradictory desires. Nonconformity eventually leads to extinction.

You already have good energy bonus from individualist, so go industrious and strong to maximize mineral output. I cannot remember if strong costs 2 but I always pick sedentary and solitary as necessary negative traits. Solitary is tricky though.
>>
>>164966017
I reiterate that this has never been a problem.

If you're playing Fanatic Individualist, Deviant is a free point.

The happiness bonus of Direct Democracy also helps prevent ethics divergence, but in the end it's not a big deal.

Not this guy, but i have no idea what are you talking about. On my current save ive got said empire (deviants ind, 48 planets) and everyone is >60% happines(main race >90%) with few xenophile ( like maybe 10 out of like 600 pop). Only rebel factions that appear are during/ post war (10 years penalty) and supressing them cost around 2 influence max (all of them), after post war penalty is gone ive got no rebel factions whatsoever. You run pretty shit individualistic goverment mr president.
>>
>>164970861
>Xenophile
I meant xenophobe.
>>
>>164970861

I never play long games but I noticed that even with mildly individualist you can always control everyone, save perhaps fanatic xenophobes or pops with traits opposed to yours (one of them being fanatic). Even so you can just compromise in a few policies and thats it.

Individualist is broken as fuck! Not only its easier to rule than collectivist it also gives you energy.

Are the new DLC's necessary (I'm sure as hell not buying them until I get them essentially for free)?
>>
>>164970791
Pretty good baseline to genemod into specialized subraces.

2 base trait points
5 extra from bad traits
2 from tech later on.

Industrious+Very Strong+Communal=6
3 points left
Intelligent+Natural X+Communal=4
5 points left

Removing Decadent could be an option.
Or adding Thrifty or Conformist.

>Energy/Research
Thrifty, Intelligent, Natural X, Communal, Conformist
1 point left so you can change habitat for future settlements.

>Is stellaris better now than it was 1 month after launch?

Absolutely. Nowhere near vanilla. Although the next patch will introduce some tech trees which seems to be quite radical.

Does anyone have a good early rush build? I made some tests to attack after 15 years or so but I always find that projectiles+shield, despite being better than laser+armor always get fucked against the spaceport and are not as cost effective. Also regime/ethos?
>>
>>164971278

>>
>>164972523
>Thats build was meant as a joke actually.
Don't worry, someone will conquer the galaxy as them somehow
>>
>>164972501

You will probably have just one revolt. Easily put down with an eight unit assault army, armed with drones and a general. They could fail if the pops are strong or very strong though.
>>
>>164972349
What difficulty should I play on if I come back now? Any decent "easy" strategy?
>>
>>164972883

Individualist is now a very good ethos to have different pops in your empire. As for the strategy all I can say is that spaceports got buffed quite a lot (no more 7 year rushes), missiles still suck and hyperdrive now sucks balls ass.

Insane difficulty is very punishing. I recommend no more than hard on your first gameplay. Maybe its better to go normal and set AI to aggressive (middle of the road).
>>
>>164972349
Have they restored the embassy?
>>
>>164972523
>Thats build was meant as a joke actually.
I realized that, but it still works for that strat.

Doesn't have any special tempo though so it's a meme "strat", and uplifted races are better due to the happiness bonus they get, +super presentient traits.
>>
>>164973341

No. If you want to befriend, first you check if their ethos is similar to yours (or at least not the exact opposite), then you ensure their independence (if you want to be friends with them) then non aggression pact (possibly followed by a defensive one). Trade shit with them afterwards (charts) and you have a friend. Thats how it works.

Anyone know any guides to editing existing Stellaris mods? I want to edit the Fallen Empires expanded mod that has a post-interstellar war Sol system.

Basically just want to change Mars from a Gaia world into a desert world.
>>
>>164973237
Thanks. Back in the day I used to restrict everyone to hyperdrive, it just felt better to have clearly defined paths that you could move. Is it somehow a bad gamemode nowadays?
>>
>>164973582
>No
Then I don't care.
>>
>>164973952

Faggots really nerfed its speed and it no longer can warp from the middle of the systems. Also the further you get from your conquered areas the slower it gets. It really needs to be buffed.

Its so fucking bad that even warp is faster than that shit! I used to love it too back in the day.

>>164973952
Hyperdrive is fine as long as everyone is using it. If it has to compete against warp/wormhole/jump drives it sucks balls now since it's main gimmick, being able to jump from anywhere in the system, has gone.

>>

The embassy was gay because it was just a matter of time before relations started to increase. Now you need to actually engage in diplomacy for the effect.

hyperdrives got pretty much removed from the game as far as Im concerned.
