This is one of the reasons you use Mastema in case people here still question why Master players use her in Aggro Bats.

Not even Tempo could avoid going through 2 evo'd followers to deal with Mastema. Why they chose Daris for the evol baffles me but point still stands.

It's even easier to force them to deal with it if it's a deck that relies on Wards. This card saves you from Sun Haven which more people are playing.

She's not broken or OP, but she does need to be dealt with. Simple removal can suffice, but it's up to the player to properly use her. In this case, you can predict your opponents moves based on other resources they've already expended. This is the time to drop Mastema, force out literally everything else they could possible have, then drop Lancer. Literally the only play she's there for, but it's so effective, it's ridiculous.

I thought about this and I think it's because his effect would be kind of hard to balance. You could have him consume shadows instead of earth rites, but you would have even less control over him commencing his experiments. Plus, the shadow amount required wpuld be difficult because if it cost too much he would be useless, and if it cost too little it would be broken.

Does anyone feel like shadow doesn't have enough burst potential? I have been playing shadow on an off since release, and I have always had trouble figuring out why its bad. On paper, a lot of the cards seem good, and the class has an answer to everything besides countdown amulets. The issue is that most of their cards don't directly contribute to you winning the game.
Most shadow cards act as a good answer to a specifice problem, or provide nice utility, but they usually don't enable you to go face or create massive tempo swings. I think this might have to do with the necromancy mechanic acting as a naturally dampener on potential. You can't, say do a Foul Tempest on turn 3-4 into a Charon turn 5, you just won't have the shadows to do it. Where as other classes have these kinds of plays without arbitrary restrictions.

Aggro = Aggressive, wants to kill your opponent as soon as possible

Tempo = A deck that has a control of the pace of the game. Can be both aggressive or midrange, but the point is that they do good trades that gives them a bigger advantage on the game.

Midrange = A balanced deck that has a strong early game, but a decent late-game as well.

Control = Tries to control the board and slow the game down, and then overwhelm the opponent with their stronger late game cards.
