The biggest barrier to the top tier radial gems and the stam and hp runes is the cursed chalice. The whole thing is too much of a cunt for casuals and cursed Amy is a fight 99% of people will blank out of. On top of that it's a one shot fest even at 50 VIT and a 10% hp rune. So I'd like to think say that Hamlet gems are about as good as the average player will get.

See I had the opposite experience. Hotdog it pretty easy to read and has almost no quick wind ups besides the bite. With a summon he is trivial because you can work the legs.

Why NG+ is so fucking unrewarding?
The only thing you really get out of it is two blood rocks and it's still faster to get them via dungeons.

skl is pretty solid around 50, you can enchant and use blood pellets, and you just have to level up vit and skl
once you reached maria, you can get the rakuyo, while already having the church pick, and you can farm +22% droplets on ham lanterns

Is there a certain range with the blunderbuss beyond which you can hit but cannot parry?
I've always used the pistol, and now that I've switched I swear it only staggers at long range, but won't parry

hell yeah I beat FRC Pthumerian Descendant on my first try and I was using the tricked bloodletter exclusively. Was kind of disappointed to see there wasn't a 4th layer to this dungeon (pwmf22gu)

it took me like 20 tries before I finally beat Loran Darkbeast on FRC. It's so weird how you cant lock on and so you always have to roll for him, but he hits you during your i-frames and just pushes you around without doing any damage. I just try to get under his legs so I can swing around and hope I can soften up/break his hind ones

Depends on your patience for chalice dungeons. If you want to grind autism gems, Arcane becomes amazing, you can put cold gems in just about anything and make it viable. Whereas Bloodtinge weapons are good enough with plain old tempering gems, but you're limited to only using 3 of them.

I like the weapon/tools flexibility of str/arcane build even if damage isn't as good. I only got enough alright gems from FRC dungeons to have one decent fire weapon and one decent bolt weapon and a hybrid weapon at any time. I gave up getting arcane gems though, bolt was difficult enough and the few usable were durability down which locked them to kos parasite.

Depth 4 I was already get chunks I think, and I usually grind them killing the brainsucker boss in huy83p9r with 3 eye runes (tier 3 eye rune is in the pre-lamp area of the same layer) since it's the shortest 1st layer (lever is right from the first lamp). It's insane how great the old hunters bosses have been so far, wish the whole base game had this level of quality.

it's somewhat hard to say when the fishing hamlet was attacked by byrgenwerth
for sure we know that the first hunters were focused on the labyrinth exploration and that they created byrgenwerth to push forward their researches about great ones
we also know that the byrgenwerth hunters discovered isz and ebrietas, thus the phantasms and their powers
but it's hard to say if they discovered the fish hamlet before or after isz, even if these two are greatly important to the creation of the choir and their studies
i'd personally think that the hunters knew about the pthumerian gretaone (probably MP), and they wanted to beckon it, but they didn't have any umbilical cord and the experiences on ebrietas (rom) probably didn't lead to a viable surrogate (thus a good umbilical cord)
so I think that the hunters looked for another strange city/civilization, until they found the fish hamlet

maria is kinda the guardian of the fish hamlet entrance in the nightmare, as if it was a secret during the old hunters time and few of them (highly ranked) were aware of it
maria even have a special status because she led the researches on the blue ayys (humans transformation) and the big heads (eyes linked to the brain)

finally, I think that gehrman has a special place in this story
I think that the hunter that killed kos, and orphan was gehrman, and that's why he was the first to be able to summon the MP and to use his new powers to create his own dream (thus avoiding the curse of orphan)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tanimura has a knack for a certain art design that's readily identifiable (compare the visuals in STA and Sunken King) and extraneous and often unnecessary gameplay mechanics.

Now, ok, maybe he did "save" DaS2 from being worse than it could have been, and I'll gladly concede that, for the most part, all three DLCs were pretty good.

That doesn't mean that he should be let anywhere near the Souls games, considering how much worse they are for his involvement over giving Big M sole directorship.

If you need some material you have no idea where to get yet, it's probably locked behind a different chalice that drops from a story boss further in the game.

As for the weapons, having mains is fine but the strength of arcane builds is that you can use almost everything you want, there's no reason to restrict yourself.
If you're doing a Church build you can also use stuff like Church Pick and Ludwig's.
