So what happens when someone enters their airspace unannounced in the middle of the night? Then again, I don't think Austrian airspace borders any non-EU/NATO countries, but I suck at geography.

Have you found out yet what borders really mean, and what their volition truly is yet, /aceg/?

After playing ac3 some more I honestly have pretty mixed feelings about it. It reminds me a lot of Metal Gear Solid, where the gameplay is dated and awkward at times, but the game overall is worth playing because it's such an innovative story for its time. It's fascinating seeing the same conflict through 4 different angles. The themes of the story are interesting as well.

That said parts of the gameplay are infuriating. The missile behavior seems completely random. I honestly don't understand how missiles miss sometimes and how they hit at others. It seems completely random even though I'm sure there are rules that make sense, but the game makes no attempt to explain how it works, not through gameplay and not through an actual textual explanation. The awkward pitch/roll behavior makes this even worse, as dodging missiles now involves fighting the controls to juke out of the way.

In any case I really wish more games did this - shorter 'case studies' of conflicts allowing you to play from all sides. It's really quite cool, and it lets you see nuances in the conflict you wouldn't otherwise.

Based on my experience with the US version, missiles seem to track better if fired just within their maximum lock on range. Close range shots overshoot, because the missiles are TOO good at trying to intercept the bogey based on their flight path.
>>
No seriously, how do I fight that humming piece of shit butterfly faggot?
If I ain't max range SAAM spamming the lead plane, I'll get skewered by those fucking lasers

This is why we need V2.

Use the Morgan. It pierces all
>>
>>164372264
To be honest with you, most of the time when the Butterfly Master spawns in, I pretty much just count the mission as over right then, because it takes so long to kill, and you're not always with players who know what they're doing.

This is why I don't play AC:I anymore, once you get past the initial F2P jew tactics, (i.e. the little crumbs of progress the game gives you to persuade you that you aren't completely wasting your time) this game is a complete shitshow.

Good god I love AC5 so much.

I love all of the holy trilogy, but AC5 is just special somehow. It's weird because I started with 4, but AC5 is the one I always go back to, even a decade later. I can play through the whole game in an afternoon, and I still have a blast doing it.

Do you ever have that really gutted feeling when you've been playing AC for years, do missions on Ace with your aircraft of choice, no problem, then one day you do something stupid like crash into a building or get shot down by some SAM or something?

I hate that. I just did Aces and the SOLG, and died on both missions due to stupid mistakes. Really ruined the end of the playthrough.
>>
>>164430675
That happened to my last playthrough a couple weeks ago. Kicked ass through the whole game on Ace with my Yellow 13 Su-37, and then got to mission 16A, and suddenly just completely sucked. Played the mission probably 7 or 8 times, and every time kept doing dumb shit like looking around when flying down and crashing into the ground.

Feels bad man.

I mean, there are some levels where I 100% have been doing that for years.

Like Rendezvous. Camera lock on Edge. As soon as enemies appear, set Wardog to disperse and break left, with Edge. Then fly up and destroy harriers. On the way down fly under the bridge and loop back around to follow the 3 incoming aircraft. I then either pick them off or XLAA them as they approach the carrier.

Don't worry, I'm way ahead of you.

>tfw it genuinely saddens you that allied aircraft (in particular KC-10s) get shot down and there's nothing you can do about it.

One's hit by Stonehenge in AC4 and one's hit by Excalibur right at the beginning of the mission, both in far too short a timescale for you to take out the weapon before it fires.

In a game like AC it's almost distressing when you can't prevent allied casualties, even if you can singlehandedly win the war.

Correction: You can save the Stonehenge KC-10 in some circumstances. (I flew close to it at <2000ft and while stonehenge fired near it, it didn't hit and the KC-10 crossed the return line.)

"During the X-15 program, 13 flights by eight pilots met the Air Force spaceflight criterion by exceeding the altitude of 50 miles (80 km), thus qualifying these pilots as being astronauts. The Air Force pilots qualified for astronaut wings immediately, while the civilian pilots were eventually awarded NASA astronaut wings in 2005, 35 years after the last X-15 flight. The only Navy pilot in the X-15 program never took the aircraft above the requisite 50 mile altitude and so as a result, never earned himself astronaut wings."

That's kinda sad.

Well, it technically could do ground attack, Imperial Japanese style.
It was called the lawn dart for a reason.

There used to be a joke somewhere that the easiest way to acquire your very own jet fighter was to get a piece of land from near an American air base and wait for a Starfighter to be pulled towards it.

I also remember hearing or reading somewhere that the Starfighter had problems at supersonic speeds, it had a tendency to start pulling down.

I could be wrong, but I believe it also had a downward ejection system in order to get the pilot clear of the T-Tail.

Since the luftwaffe in particular focused on high speed low level flights, the pilot had a poor chance of surviving a mishap.
>>
>>164578757
I like how it looks and the gotta go fast and high-part.

Here's a nice article about it http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20160826-the-1950s-jet-launching-tiny-satellites

>“The secret was, you had to fly it in the ‘environment’ it was meant for. If you tried to fly it slow, or at high angles of attack, or make high-g turns, well it wasn’t built for that.
>“The German Air Force learned that the hard way. We lost many planes and pilots, but that’s because the plane was being flown in an environment it wasn’t meant for,” says Merklinghaus.
>>
>>164580409
Also, was going to see one at an airshow last summer, but some soccermom crashed and blocked the highway, so I didn't get there in time to watch it. Feels bad man.

Was she flying an F-104?
>>
>>164578757
It is liked semi-ironically. It had its flaws, a lot of them and it was a bit of a learning experience, but it did serve its duty well enough.
Most of its defects and problems were fixed in the revised versions and in the long run, it was a fantastic interceptor that was more than a match for anything the slavs could throw at it at the time, but the bad reputation never left.

>>
>>164661675
Both AC7 trailers were shit in comparison to their older trailers. They really gotta put some effort in them.
>>
Does anyone else sort of hate Japan?

It's weird, because on the one hand I love a lot of their low-culture (i.e. vidya/anime), their technology and their insular-nature (especially when it comes to technology, F-2 fighter, domestic-built trains, etc.) and so on, but at the same time I feel they're a people with chronically shit taste, which gets annoying fast and quickly makes vidya/anime as tedious as it is enjoyable as their shit taste or other cuntery is spread elsewhere.
>>
>>164663565
The problem with them is the never ending demand for fanservice and generic cookie-cutter cute girls with barely any personality in everything, which gets irritating fast.

But then again that stuff is contributing to their market so

It is called the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18, but it is actually a joint design between McDD and Northrop based on Northrop's YF-17 Cobra from the LWF program.

If you look through the YF-17's design history, you can see that it is an evolution of the F-5.

Which explains why the F/A-18 is bad. Not a true McDonnell design like the A4, F-4, or F-15

>just after New Years
>cold front rolls in
>local meteorologists shit themselves and predict a foot of snow
>entire Atlanta metro goes completely fucking batshit, roads fill up with millions of panicky soccer moms 'stocking up' for the 'snowpocalypse'

>absolute jackshit happens

>the following year the program falls through the cracks and the entire city shits itself all over again

And here we go again, offices all over the city are closing up. Roads are already filled up with panicking soccer moms.

You know I've been thinking. The world of Ace Combat 3 isn't that far away. All that needs to happen for the rise of mega corporations to occur is for the profit motive to surpass government regulation. Think about it, the only reason the US telecom market isn't just Bell is because the government forced a breakup. These days the law of increasing marginal costs simply isn't true anymore - the large companies that lead a field will continue to get larger, and the smaller ones will fall further behind - unless an outside force of some sort acts on them.

I think the only difference will be that the Neucom and General Resource of the future will be Amazon and Google.

I pray for the world of Ace Combat 3.

Our corpocracy is going to be much darker, because unlike strangereal we've got third world countries to bilk for cheap labour, in turn helping to hold down domestic wages and in the broadest sense create an underclass that they'll probably starve before putting on basic income.

And then to top it all off they start making fucking UAVs and F-35s instead of Delphinus....es.

I think the only time an emergency for weather was called here was when power was knocked out for over 90% of the city due to 80+ hours of constant freezing rain, then it was followed up by powerful winds and a major temperature drop that brought down a bunch of trees and even more power lines.
That was 19-ish years ago. Fun times. So we don't worry about snow accumulation, but when ice is involved, we are a bit more cautious.
It was a legit ice cage

I'm sorry if this sounds like shitposting, but can /aceg/ tell me why so many people say AC4 is the best AC game? Especially with all the Mobius 1 and Yellow 13 jizz flying around?

Storywise AC5 and Zero seem to be a lot better, Mobius 1 pales in comparison to Scarface 1, Nemo or Cipher and i don't even know who Yellow 13 is, as even the last Yellow you shoot down you don't see him get better than the previous members of his wing
>>
>>164840523
AC04 is a lot like FF7. It was most players' first AC, so nostalgia kicks in hard. It's still a good game in its own right, but later entries refine what 04 was going for.
>>
>>164841324
Why doesn't nostalgia kick in about AC2/3 or even air combat then? FF7 was a PS1 game while AC4 was on PS2, so it feels a bit stretched for people to not know of possibly the best modern jet flight arcade on the PS1.
Maybe i missed on a trend or something.

Some thoughts:

The flares look good, but it seems like they were only deployed after the missiles have already missed. Are they a purely visual indicator that the missile has missed? Will there be chaff for radar guided missiles?

The planes seem a bit light, given the responsiveness and nose pointing, (hard to tell without a controller in hand) but the turning radii doesn't seem too tight. It looks like it fits in somewhere between Zero and in that regard. Care to comment?

AC:5 F-4X rendition is just a basic F-4E with F-15 CFT with old style F-4 fuel tank rear ending slapped on and possibly with different engine nozzles.

The so called turkroach F-4E 2020 Terminator was supposed to be close to a real F-4X but the upgrades made by the JDF using their Super Kurnass science are null

Upgrade was supposed to give it modified intakes and strakes or something outside, there are none.

Upgraded avionics and cockpit with LCD or glass screens, those are in

Aim-120 probably is there,taken from Greek F-4

New GE engines,didn't happened

They retired all their RF-4E due accidents related to radars not being installed or in a working order, they possibly retired all the Phantoms that were not upgraded, external and visible differences other than some antennas is just the inboard wing pylon being is a tad more longer due Popeye clearance and weight distribution

I probably have some stuff for the original F-4X stored somewhere,it was also linked on arcforums

If anything, I know that yaks are prone to burst in flames if the engine is not on a permanent 80-90 % throttle, if not lower

From a realism standpoint:

It provides a data-link used to display all the enemy and friendly aircraft on your radar that aren't directly in front of you. It struggles to detect stealth aircraft hence why they disappear when they aren't in front of you.

FF7 syndrome. The first of the modern AC games, and the one most people played first since it came out early in the PS2's life, and was lauded as an instant classic.

It's a damn great game, but both 5 and 0 are better.

No, you won't.
First, gameplay mechanics of Ace Combat series isn't trademarked. If you look back, there has been several games with similar mechanics preceding Ace Combat series such as Super Air Diver on SNES and F-22 Interceptor on Sega Genesis.
Second, Bamco has only been confirmed to be making AC7 for PS4 and your project's target platform is PC. Suing you gives the impression that Bamco is trying to monopolize any games with Ace Combat mechanics and bar them from entering PC realm.

My understanding of the matter is that it goes like this:

F-16 is fine, since it's a government designation.

F-16 Fighting Falcon is not ok, since Fighting Falcon is trademarked.

No idea about the likeness stuff.

>>

Most people like it because muh nostalgia. IMO the story is strongest because it's the most unique. All the other stories are either about the war in the game or its combatants, but 4 has one that centers on what the world looks like from more than just the air. I like it because it's a little more "artsy" overall.
>>
>>164900913
If these companies wanted to, they could force the dev to remove their content from the game if it wasn't properly licensed.
>>
>>164750475
That's the standard any% fresh start strat. You can do it with UGBL in the MiG-31 too, but it takes WAAAY more precision. Naturally, it's also faster.

There's a reason Ace Combat 04 had made up names for the Rafale and typhoon.

I double checked.

The actual shape of an aircraft may be protected as a design patent.

However, these are limited in most cases to only 15 years from filing, if the manufacturer bothered to file in the first place.

So besides (presumably) the F-35, the shape of pretty much any plane is fair game, but not the trademarked name.

Doesn't the patent only apply to the same industry?

i.e. you can't build a plane with the F-35's shape, but you can draw as many as you like because the shape is only patented and owned as relates to an aircraft.

Apparently you can't, for example, copyright/patent clothing designs.
>>
>>164909159

To quote wikipedia:
"Design patents are only granted if the design is novel and not obvious for all items,[14] even those of different utility than the patented object. An actual shield of a given shape, for example, can be cited as prior art against a design patent on a computer icon with a shield shape. The validity of design patents is not affected by whether or not the design is commercialized."
>>
>>164901967
The same thing applies to the music for me imo, the AC04 soundtrack is the best because it's the most unique.
>>
>>164909159
>Apparently you can't, for example, copyright/patent clothing designs.

Respondent Samara Brothers, Inc., designs and manufactures a line of children’s clothing. Petitioner Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., contracted with a supplier to manufacture outfits based on photographs of Samara garments. After discovering that Wal-Mart and other retailers were selling the so-called knockoffs, Samara brought this action for, inter alia, infringement of unregistered trade dress under §43(a) of the Trademark Act of 1946 (Lanham Act). The jury found for Samara. Wal-Mart then renewed a motion for judgment as a matter of law, claiming that there was insufficient evidence to support a conclusion that Samara’s clothing designs could be legally protected as distinctive trade dress for purposes of §43(a). The District Court denied the motion and awarded Samara relief. The Second Circuit affirmed the denial of the motion.

hello /aceg/, ASEfriend here and we have slipped completely into valve time, just spent an entire morning trying to decide which font to use for menu UI so you know development time is being spent wisely.

Some of the improvements here include the beginnings of a mission structuring system with starts, updates and ends. We also found a terrain generation software which we are experimenting with at the moment, it gives much higher resolution than our previous generator which means more detailed 3D meshes. With a little bit of magic we can merge predesignated flat areas with natural mountain generation which means maps can now support farmland, cities and fort bases.

Regarding manufacturers, I can get around it with different names and may be able to mix around lore stuff or do what AC3 did too. I never planned to have brand naming in the game to begin with anyway just to avoid complications. Still thinking whether I'm going to keep government designations though.

Even if it was a failure the F-111B was a cute plane.

It's the little nose and big wings.

Does that mean the Third Aerial Girls Squad OVA is liable to get sued for portraying F-35 in a negative light?

I remember I was playing through the palace shootout sequence in the first chapter, the part where you fight through all the Haven Troopers in that building. I was having a ball, and then I glance right as I'm reloading, and saw him shitting himself.

At first I was like 'lol wat' and didn't think much of it.
Later on though, as Sasaki became a more involved character in the story, I knew it could only get worse.
>>
>>164996383
It could happen, unlikely as it is. Japan has stricter industrial design protection laws than most countries.

Although given how unimportant anime is, it'd generate more bad press if LM actually did anything about it.
>>
Holy shit i just might get an aneurysm on one of the mission of AC5
The one when you have to secretly attack a facility and get coordinated shots on the radar beforehand.
So dull, yet timing related and SO MANY MISSILE ALERTS
Also cargo planes are fucking annoying to get and are mission essentials. Fucking really

>>
>>165001060
Is that four horsemen ? Is it part of the alternate mission group ? I don't recall playing it on my first playthrough
>>
>>165001413
Four Horsemen is the alternative to blowing up the weapon bunkers with the stinger missile threat as a coin-toss.

I got it first time and it was easy, I've avoided it since on account of the reputation. (I didn't even notice you really did have to time it on my first try.)
>>
>>165001537
Oh right. It should be easy, since all targets are painted, but the planes are a pain to deal with in this mission
Also there is few SAMs, but they're hidden among ALL THE OTHER TARGETS
I should really have went full Hoffnung and fropped my cluster bombs all over the place really. But again, the starting part is so slow yet requires timing

>>165004602
desu i wish there were more namefags, someone disagreed with me here and i still get angry about it, i wish they had some kind of identity so that i could e-stalk them.

in the end the worst i could probably do is creep them out, but that'd be enough, i'm pissed off and i want you to know i hate you, guy.
>>
>>165004602
>guaranteed replies
Even though I agree with you, but after being called out like a month or two ago by another namefag for the majority of posts being namefags, it's been fine.
>>
>>165005848
I remember that.

The namefags are usually pretty good, but every now and again I suppose they need to be reigned in a little.
>>
>>165006003
You say it like they're wild animals in need of a hunting season
>>
>>165007027
By reigned in I meant that a few of them seem to have egos that run a little wild sometimes.
>>
>>165007102
And who are you to be the cowboy deputy who rounds them up?
>>
>>165007785
That's not what I meant at all.

I like the namefags around here, but I'd be lying if I said I thought someone like Brady didn't think he was the admin of these threads.
>>
>>165008115
How is it that Brady is always the one who catches shit when these 'Namefags: Good or Bad?" discussions happen?

good thing he's a pats fan, he's probably used to getting shit on
>>
>>165008115
So you want to change how he thinks? Cut his chatter?
>>
>>165008719
Not that guy, but it's because the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

>>165008871
Brady can do whatever the fuck he wants, I'd just prefer he save the namefagging for the handful of times it's relevant like stream related stuff.
>>
>>165009195
And I don't mean to single out Brady, that applies to all the regular namefags. Brady's just an easy "target" because he is by far the most prolific in namefagging. Like I said in >>165005848 though, it's not really a big issue anymore (to me anyway) since the thread got called out by another namefag a while ago. That was when it was really bad.
>>
>>165009195
And if he didn't you'd like to reign him in a little, I suppose
>>
Speaking of Brady, we're due for a new thread soon, aren't we?
>>
>>165010325

>>
>>165009415
>he is by far the most prolific in namefagging.

This is true, although it isn't as bad as I thought.
Here is the number of posts per namefag, most to least:

Tom Brady: 59 posts
Thunderceptor: 28 posts
Altman: 15 posts
FlashBang_11096: 9 posts
Supergauntlet: 5 posts
Facedrag Anon: 4 posts
AC Bro: 4 posts

All in all, namefags count for 124 posts out of what is now 730 posts.

It's really not as bad as it seems.

In a lv. 15 fighter, I'm not overpowered or anything for a TDM.

Weaponless mode made people too soft, it seems.

Most people only namefag to talk about a specific thing (streams, game devs, knowledge about a certain topic, and even the soccer guy), so it's ok considering this is the actual reason for being able to put a name there.
>>
>>165011737
>It's really not as bad as it seems
No, it's really not. There was a point where the majority of posts were namefags, but that's not how it is at all anymore.
>>
>>165012005
There was a thread a few months ago, and some anon looked through post numbers like >>165011737 did, and through around 100 posts, like 80 of them were namefags, and some shit flinging took place. Although
I don't recall a namefag being the one who started it.
>>
Why is the handling in the newer games so sluggish? Just an aftereffect of trying to make it more realistic?
>>
>>165014551
Wasn't that thunder?
>>
1. In AHL (not +) is it possible to re-bind the controls in such a way that you can change views with a button press instead of going via the options menu?
2. are there proper assault records, or just the brief character summaries on the main aces?
>>
>>165016431
The most recent proper AC I played was 6, and it almost felt like there was an input delay to everything I did. It's not really realistic, not the way they did it anyway. With that input delay, I wonder if it was intentional or a by product of some graphical effect. AC6 is also the only PS2 and beyond Ace Combat I've seen that runs at 30fps. All the PS2 games did 60fps.
>>
>>165014551
>100 posts
So not even an entire thread? That seems like too small a sample size, since any conversation/discussion between a few posters that might last like 20 minutes max is going to have a huge impact on that
>>
>>165018361
What I meant to add was that the thread was only 100 posts old, and already namefag posts comprised the majority of that.

Lemme tell ya,

I've rebound the gun control on my 360 controller for AC5/Zero on PC to square rather than X, and I think it's a lot easier to use the gun that way. Especially if you're tracking a moving airborne target and have a camera padlock.

(X rather than A on 360 controller)
