I personally used Zeru from Gou to G.
But each one has their own specialty, like Diorex giving out Absolute Defense.

Going from the normal ranks to Gou is a huge jump overall though, akin to the older rank changes where everything hurts and hunts feel like they take too long.

Diorex can be a tough fight if you can't easily break the armor and get to the squishy grey bits within so it's not the best starter I'd say.

Gou is a bit weird.

It's officially the selection of monsters that have their own selection in the armor and weapons.
So while you can fight something like HR 100 Velocidrome, that's not a Gou monster. But monsters like Zeru and Diorex are.
The real issue is that Gou gets thrown around a lot because there's no real good title of the rank between HR 100-999 Or just Hr 5 in Japanese Frontier, so some people call it Gou rank.

The quick rule of thumb is that if it drops unique parts, it's a Gou monster, and if it just drops generic parts like "Wyvern shell" it's just a normal monster.

What if charms were replace by trinkets made from monster parts that gave that monster's armor set's skill points. For example: a rathalos charm would give attack or tenderizer points.

Admittedly it's about the worst damage I could do since the kickoff does kick damage.
I only got the full knockdown there because I have my AI partner wailing on it normally with G rank weapons against poor HR 5 Lao.

Then from the back I could either carve, bomb, or just surf the Lao. All of which would be far slower to actually killing it than just attacking normally since Frontier Lao/Shen/Yama can die anywhere on their walks, not just the end.

Still, a pretty fun adventure trying to keep up the height while also not being hit by the legs.

Then you can get the 5x rotation attacks, if you're good enough you can attack and evade at the same time.
Lastly I prefer absolute readiness, very useful for dbs since they eat sharpness like a motherfucker.
Only thing that sucks is that you're pretty much required to use Dash/Mega Dash juice, cuz no archdemon mode/bar.

Savage jho is actually easier to hammer, him spamming his "step back & dragon breath" move is usually your best chance to golfswing his head, by standing under his chest and facing out.

It's really hard to get more than one or two stuns on him while soloing with a hammer though.

Get the gendrome SnS for para (assuming Gen). SnS relies on element/status a lot so you'll want to get one of each.
Ice: Hi Frost Edge
Fire: Glinting Glavenus or Daze Eye
Water: Master Odyssey or Kurenawi Ougi
Thunder: Thunderbolt/Despot Crookbolt
Dragon: Alatreon Star
Blast: Magma Hellblade
Para: Deathprize
Poison: Dreadqueen Rapier (for Kushala I guess, not that useful otherwise)
Sleep: Dream Duke Shura (marginally useful)

Magma is by far the best, then probably Deathprize. A lot of shit is weak to thunder so either one of those or alatreon as third.

I pretty new to monster hunter and I just started playing MHGen. I really like the SnS, DB and IG but I'm not really sure how to level the insect after I've gotten it to evolve into the form I want (Speed 1). Do I keep pumping points into speed (at lvl 1 with 140 speed now) or would it be better put the rest into power if I wanted more damage now? I really want as much damage as I can get either through faster attacks or stronger hits so which would be better?

The only stat that really matters on kinsects is speed. You do all your damage with the glaive the kinsect is just for getting extracts. Look up a guide on youtube or something to figure out the best way to upgrade them.

So after I get speedstat lvl10 on my speed 1 bug I should just keep going till I max it at speedstat lvl15 (power 10 - speed 15) instead of having it be (power 15-speed 10)? IG has two playstyles, one does about 25% more damage than the other.

the first playstyle is what most people use, you do all your damage with the glaive, the kinsect is only there to get your extracts. it only needs speed and a little weight in this case.

the second is kinsect-only or kinsect focused, you do all your damage with the bug and are essentially a gunner with blademaster defense. in this case you pump power as much as you can and then put the rest into speed. (this will change in XX because the best kinsect for this in a G rank game is on the stamina path)

Once you have all the speed you need you can really just put stats in wherever you want. It just depends on if you want more damage or stamina. It also depends on what type of kinsect you want to make because they require that you reach a certain stat for certain levels.

If your making a speed kinsect though you definitely want to make the grancathar/bullshroud kinsect cause it gives +30% affinity for the white extract.

Help me like Monster Hunter Generations. HR3, completed village low rank and just want to get to a point in the game where I can actually make armor and weapons.

I think the health also depends on whether youre playing offline or in a local room.
