Cammy was pointed out already but the best characters for this are characters who can link the normals regardless of meaty, because you have the meaty frames to basically wait and react without disrupting the combo. There are some good guides on defending, I think jav1ts wrote one specifically on Laura. Just try to not second guess yourself when playing matches, make a decision and stick with it. After the match take a minute to think back on what went right and what didn't and why. Look at the situation/position/life/stun and try to figure out why you're opponent did for example wakeup dp in that situation.
Check for repeating patterns in your own play as well and try to fix it.

They're just following the VN-style of the game. I don't really find Revelator's tutorial all that much better. Implementing minigames for it is a cute idea but I don't think it helps in any way. It does do challenge modes alot better than BB though, but Revelator has the benefit of the game not being all too different from SIGN, whereas CF is extremely different from CPE, so it would be hard to have the same things there.
