No matter what. The way the hook works is there are three states, idle, struggle and death. On your first hook you'll be put in idle state. The meter will slowly tick down, progressing you to struggle state. You can attempt to escape from the hook yourself, which will eat up a large amount of the meter and putting you closer to struggle state. once you hit struggle state, you must spam spacebar to slow down the rate of decay in the rest of the meter. Once the meter finishes you die. However, if you are unhooked in idle state, the next time you're put on the hook, you'll skip idle state and go straight to struggle state. Similarly, if you were unhooked during struggle state, you'll skip to death state immediately. Do you get it?

Initially when you're put back on the hook after being rescued from struggle state, the bar will hang at it's previous position. A couple seconds later the meter will drop to halfway and initiate struggle phase. Being healed afterwards has zero effect on hook state progression, and no add-ons or tools will revert them either.

For survivors, the "meme trinity" is Sprint Burst, Self Heal and Decisive Strike. All of these on the same survivor can make it very difficult to bring them down, if they know how to keep their distance. Sabotage can also make life unpleasant for killers (and downright suffering for Trappers).

Killer gameplay varies more (not only does each killer have different powers, but the survivors have to march to YOUR bell rather than the other way around), so it's hard to say what is and isn't essential. However, Brutal Strength, Unrelenting, and either Iron Grasp or Agitation are generally considered to be very useful. Enduring and No One Escapes Death basically help you recover from your mistakes, so their effectiveness depends on how often you make those mistakes.

I don't personally consider any perks to be off-limits, but many people consider the meme trinity and No One Escapes Death to be anti-fun.

I don't think they're tortured at all.
Other than hillbilly and wraith, all of the killers were sociopaths and murders before stumbling into the areas where the entity grabbed them.

Hillbilly doesn't know anything but abuse, but he's more a product of his upbringing as he was just locked in a hole in the wall for being a deformed monster.
Wraith, well I still don't understand how he became a killer, his kill in the real world was actually one of vengeance.

Honestly though stealth is mostly how you play, not perks. The only perks I'd attribute to stealth MAYBE is Lightweight, Iron Will, and Quick and Quiet, which he has 2 outta 3. The radar perks too I guess. Although that being said those perks only come into play once you've been found already after not stealth...ing well enough. Which is why I said stealth is mostly the playstyle and not the perks.

Self-care is only scummy when you're dropping pallets/jumping through windows, healing in plain sight for one second, then running to the next point of evasion. Adrenaline is only scummy if you're on voice chat telling your teammates the exact second to pop the last generator.

Both are totally acceptable to use in standard, non-scummy play (however standard that may or may not be).

Survivor is brutal early on. They rely more heavily on their perks than killers do, and survivor gameplay is not very tolerant of mistakes (i.e., the ones new players tend to make).

Also, you *shouldn't* have been matched up with those people - maybe all the low ranks in your area were busy when you went a-calling.

They just have it go quickplay and hope for killer. If they get killer they hope people find and feed them points.
If quickplay gives them survivor though, it'll leave the game while loading in and try again.
Bots, for whatever reason, don't ever ready up, so if two people aren't readied up it may be a good idea to drop.

Well when you're starting out as survivor you probably want either Premonition or Spine Chill which help tell you where the killer is or if he's coming towards you respectively.

After that it depends how you want to play. If you want to try to be stealthy then perks like Lightweight, Calm Spirit, and Urban Evasion are good. Iron Will is top tier unless you don't actually want to lose the killer if he finds you.

Or you can be the meta cancer survivor which will take a LOT of leveling to get due to it being all the really strong teachable perks combined.

I would start with Jake to get Calm Spirit and Iron Will, then think about where you want to go from there.

What I mean is when I have sprint burst I don't want to just waste it. I want to be able to use it in the case of me getting caught out somewhere. this means I have to walk everywhere which is slow as balls and sometimes prevents me from getting into a good position solely due to time I take to get there.

Instead I use lightweight and urban evasion and sprint whenever I want and walk/crouch walk when I have to. It works LOADS better than sprint burst for me.

The true core of stealth is mostly getting a feel for when you should be working and when you should be moving. There's a lot of quick analysis of my surrounding and deciding where I'm going to go and when. Not even waiting for heartbeats, sometimes I just go off of the fact that the killer hasn't been around in like a whole minute and I'll get off a gen and move somewhere I can watch it and come back in after he passes or I just move on to a different one.

My ideal games only Lightweight comes into play, sometimes Urban Evasion if I have it on instead of Streetwise or something.

The perks honestly are just an added bonus or in Iron Will's case it makes it actually possible to lose more experienced killers if you get hit. I suppose waiting for the perks will make progress in getting better go faster though. But practice makes perfect.
