How useful are engineers in HoI3? I've always built my standard divisions as 2xINF/ENG/ART and then adding an AT once the fifth brigade is unlocked.

A revamped diplomacy option. For example, more deals with larger nations. Consider how SP can trade provinces with France for Italian formation- I'd Like to be able to do a similar thing as Bavaria or something like that.
Also, there could be secret alliances and things of the like. Gunboat diplomacy, ect.
Also, a ton more provinces, and the opportunity to change how your armies fight. Line formations, small battle simulations, ect. Infamy and prestige penalties for unorthodox/dishonorable tactics would be cool to go with that.

In order to secure a location to stage an invasion of France from, landings are made in the socialist republic of the Sahel. The plan is to then sweep up into French Algeria, and from there to Italy and then into the mainland.
However, the Sahelian army puts up shockingly stiff resistance with their lines held by crack detachments of French and British troops who fought in the insurgency that won the Sahel its independence. The initial landings and subsequent holding of the beachhead resulted in some 100,000 American casualties over the course of 4 months. The campaign to breakout of the Freetown region was arduous, with American Marines engaging both native militiamen and well-equipped British light infantry in brutal jungle fighting.
Armor proved far less effective than hoped for, due both to the terrain and the unexpected amount of AT weaponry available to the Sahelians.
The difficulties encountered in this campaign are a foreboding precursor to the attack on France proper.

Doing some minor tweaks to the game, I was thinking of changing the German unification decision to practice using events and more dynamic ways to implement things.

Bumping the remove core/liberate nation warscore costs in peace deals could also work.

Yeah, I made decisions for the formable nations to remove cores, kind of like the cultural unity decision but whether the country exists or not doesn't matter. It also only works within a certain region, like France in the French region, and Britain on the British isles. They don't cost anything but from some short tests the AI doesn't seem eager to do them right away.

I'm only doing the big nations mostly, and I'm still unsure about doing colonial nations because most people including myself don't seem to play that far anyway, and they're only around for 40 or so years.

I haven't messed with any missions. Even when I'm playing, I forget about them a lot as their mostly generic and not inline with what I'm planning on doing at that time

That's exactly why I want to do them through events and using regions instead of individual provinces, it allows for more dynamic results. If you for example double the amount of provinces in Ireland and forget to modify the English mission(s) then you'll end up with a broken part of the game, that won't occur if you have the effects target the entire regions instead of individual provinces.

I've gotten it to work with individual province numbers, that's pretty easy. The idea of the mission effect is when England finishes the conquest of Ireland it's granted cores as usual, but all the Irish minor cores and wiped and replaced with that of a united Ireland, which could be released later instead of 4 different minors.
