Arlmet a shit on CK and has been for quite a while, its just one of those "classic" builds that people don't really bother trying to improve or adapt to patches because it does well enough.

The thing about CK right now is that he is insanely tanky with 2.9 STR gain, his illusions only take 200% damage, his main weakness used to be being unable to farm well, now that illusions gain flat attack speed you can solve that issue with a malestrom->mjorn while also giving them an insanely cost effective DPS increase (before 7.0 you would have ot buy AGI items to gain attack speed, which suched shit for STR illusion heroes)

Drums used to be a mana item like litreally 3 years ago, its INT bonus got nerfed again and again but people never seemed to catch on.
New drums is slightly better than what we had for the past two years, but as a "mana item" its still a flat out joke since Soul Ring exists.

It's not that I want to "dominate" the lane per se. The thing is that I don't feel like im hindering or disruptng the enemy carry farm enough to actually make a difference or being able to force a rotation allowing me to last hit a bit more reliably. Pretty much what I need to actually understand is:

The main issue with armlet is that what it does isn't actually what CK needs.
Armlet gives you 500 HP, 25 AS, 65 damage and 5 armor, illusions get 500 HP, 25 AS and 25 damage, its a cost effective midgame damage and tankiness item, but a midgame CK is going to have around 2k hp anyway, and a CK with level 1 ult + luck/level 2 ult is really not going to actually even notice the damage difference that much, after all 3 CKs hitting you for 200 damage and critting for 600 are going to melt you one way or the other, you don't need the armlet to fight midgame, it's nice to have but if you play a few games while skipping it you will notice that it's not actually that necessary.

What CK needs is a way to beef up his illusions for lategame, and to do that he needs gold. With the changes to illusions and Echo Saber being added as an item, its far more effective to just rely on those for your damage midgame and focus on getting gold and items for latemgame, mjorn being an incredible DPS item while also solving your farming issue somewhat is just what you need.

To reitirate, armlet gives your illusions tankiness and midgame damage, but thats not actually something CK needs that bad, the ability to farm and do damage lategame is far more important.

Used to be better, personally I don't think it's worth it with the jungle changes and changes to the dominator itself, CKs crit lifesteal is too unreliable to just shift click yourself through the jungle while farming an empty lane with a creep
malestrom/mjorn won't really let you clear ancient stacks and it doesn't build into satanic anymore

the types of lanes where the best thing you can do is sap what exp you can and defend the tower whenever the lane pushes in

if you're playing a solo offlane, you really should choose a hero that can farm side camps, never miss your bounty rune, and if you can, steal their safelane jungle bounty.

That depends entirely on how good the supports are at zoming. Sometimes they'll be "supports" that steal last hits, push the lane in your favor and other shit you make your life easier. Other times you're way outside XP range because of an Oracle with Drow Aura making space. Best thing you can do is buy Stout Shield, get yourself an early ring and make Tranquils early for XP sapping.

You can't unless the enemy is bad. Offlane isn't something you can just be "really good" at, it used to be called the suicide lane for a reason before they made it into GoodSafelane with camps and Talon.

You're there because chances are you can not die long enough to become effective with your skills not your farm. "winning" the offlane is not dying once and then ganking successfully with your levels. Anything else is the other laner being bad, winning so hard you force supports to rotate isn't gonna happen unless that person is bad enough to lose the offlane (in which case you've won the lane anyways).

Depends on your MMR, but the "easiest" way is to pick heroes that other players don't respect or who can do really well with relatively little gold.

Weaver/Clinkz being the prime examples, a level 3 weaver can easily get a kill on a lion/cm/ss/whatever if they don't respect how much -armor Swarm gives them and even if that fails weaver can always fuck off to do hard camps to camps to catch up on gold and again because of swarm do a lot of damage midgame without actually needing that many items.
Clinkz just needs level 6 to do 250 damage per right click with 250 attack speed to boot, the second a support thinks "oh clinkz doesn't have orchid I'll be fine walking around alone" you just 3 click their ass.

If you want to dominate in the offlane, pick heroes that have amazing midgame kill potential due to their skills and rely on the enemy teams mistakes to shine, if you don't want to rely on the enemy team being dumb then you have to pick a safer hero, but a safe hero doesn't dominate, that's just the way the game works.
Oh and try to avoid heroes like tidehunter, while they can win you games if your team follows up properly to a well timed ravage, if you are soloquing then its a crapshoot and you will just be frustrated and being unable to do anything other than set up kills that your teammates never claim.

I am going to list some supports I play and then you guys tell me if they are shit supports for this patch so far. I am a newer player and I just feel like I don't do much playing this particular heroes.

>1 Ancient Apparition
Probably my favorite support to play but from what my friends tell me, he is too passive and needs farm but can't farm quickly. So you end up in this weird position where if you do poorly then you are basically a non factor the whole game with no method of catch up.

>2 Shadow Shaman
I like playng him a lot as well. The problem is that he is squishy and short range and requires god tier positioning. Like how can you position well in this patch when everyone can jump you so quickly and probably kill you in one shot?

>3 Ogre Magi
I hear he is good because he is tanky and can fight early and blood lust is borderline broken apparently if you max it.

>4 Treant
I like playing treant a lot as well but my friends hate when I play him because they say he is too passive. Like sure you have a bash gimmick but that is about it. He isn't particularly fast and can't really be a core. You can't not get living armor so you can't play the more aggressive leech seed build. I like him but he is another hero that may be shit?

enlighten me on these supports. Particularly AA because he is my favorite.

Why are people so salty about carries actually having to do shit now besides afk farm a jungle? Here is how it works.

Carries are late game. Everyones else is early or mid game.

If you can hold them off until late game, your chances of winning increases as time goes on. If they can end you before late game. Then you lose. Makes sense to me.

Why should the game always go late to benefit carries? It doesn't always end early either though. Basically, dota use to be about carries and everyone else is fodder. Now, carries have to play strategically because they can actually be fought or fucked with.

I can tell you with impunity that all of the supports you listed are pub trash or extremely niche except for Treant. If you want to ladder (and have high impact, which is important for supports in lower brackets) I'd definitely recommend playing Lion, Venge, Abbadon, Dazzle, Omniknight and in some cases Warlock.

You and your friends correctly identified AA. He is best drafted with a second stun in the lane, either in a trilane or a stun-based carry (although his skillset lends itself almost entirely to trilanes.) It is very popular to get midas on this hero and engage in teamfights with your ult. I would recommend not doing this, but it does win a lot of games.
>2 Shadow Shaman
Positioning with SS is difficult. Get blink dagger or force staff, or both, these items are key on him. Thankfully, it is pretty easy to farm with Rhasta just remember not to take it from cores.
>3 Ogre Magi
I think this hero is pubby garbage but he does quite well with other supports and right-click based teams. He is a lane bully and later becomes a stun machine and buff dispenser. Worth learning but not mastering, at least not yet, in my opinion.
>4 Treant
Treant is not shit but he does rely a lot of your team not being a group of morons. I would not recommend learning him until you have a strong grasp of the role of support.

Basically, your effectiveness as Support is going to boil down to your game knowledge, map awareness, and your pick, not so much your skill with a particular hero. The heroes I listed above are versatile and useful in most situations and I'd learn them first, because they are good to know and learn the role with.

Support is all about being efficient. Generally, I'll save my money to buy a courier, TPs, stick/wand and smoke. Boots first, arcane if you are single support or tranquils if you are roaming a lot. Venge has a very strong early game presence with negative armor and a powerful stun, so capitalizing on this is important. That being said, she's pretty much independent of gold. You want to be zoning out the enemy offlaner with negative armor and right clicks, then smoking/TPing to gank mid.
Anyways, if I'm having a hard time gaining gold and I have my upgraded boots and a magic wand, I'll start building force staff, then vlads and blink. If I gain a lot gold quickly, I'll usually start with blink and progress to aghas. You'll want to spend most of your gold on wards, sentries, smokes and tomes. For wins, I have regularly spent over 3000 gold on wards and sentries.

Hey man since offlane is you alone vs the world you have to just spam the shit out of the heroes and learn THE HEROES perfectly to know their limits.
The second crucial aspect of being a good offlaner is DRAFTING

Also, as in general information, offlane heroes are lvl 6 reliant, all they need is lvl 6 to spread havoc, slardar (in a good line up only needs minus armor to make his right click cores monsters, only if they dont focus you do you ever use crush, you only amplify damage and get the fuck out with Q

Only after you get your blink that you start crushing, Q get the fuck out, wait for blink to come off CD again and reapeat

Clock, only need hookshot and gitting good to collect your free kill on mid

Has anyone ever successfully "reconditioned" themselves? What I mean is, have you ever overhauled your keybindings/item bindings/group control/camera control/ etc. in order to be a little bit more efficient?

I'm trying to learn micro heroes right now, but I've always (3k hours of Dota, plus ex-HONfag) had "1" as my hero and "2" as courier, and moving courier away from 2 is really screwing with my muscle memory. Item hotkeys are Alt+[Q,W,E,A,S,D] and that's just too many button presses to be quick on the draw, plus it pings the map if I'm spamming an item. I'm an autist and want all itemslots bound, but am struggling to find keyboard space.

Special case for timbersaw, if they have right clicky supports low on magic damage like venge, rubick (as opposite to warlock, CM) you can pick timbersaw max armor and not give a fuck about the world, get PMS and dive t1 at lvl5

Look at the ennemy carry's last hitting and look at his support harrassing you
The support wants you to let the carry free farm, the carry wants to free farm
The carry also wants to be near the creep whenever he can get the last hit
So whenever a creep is low and the carry needs to be near the creep to last hit, go aggro on the support so the carry has to choose between getting the last hit and punishing your aggressiveness. If they are dumb and don't understand what youre doing (ie below 5k) their cohesion with crumble and the support will go full (noob only farm farm) and the carry will go full (learn to position well noob gg end fast)

Practice last hitting and learn to hit them reliably. Do this in bot games if you have to.

Continue playing, don't let youself be dissuaded by obnoxious teammates or stompy games.

I have a handful of friends who play at pretty low skill brackets and the one thing that seems to be true for anything sub 3.5k, is that no one knows how to fucking farm. Cores sit in uncontested lanes and miss 3/5 creeps per wave while the rest of the team is having a mexican stand-off with the enemies at mid. Even if you're absolutely atrocious at the game, just being able to reliably hit creeps and make good purchase decisions is an auto-win.

Finally, you also just need to continue playing. A large part of getting better at Dota is by playing the game, getting a feel for heroes and timings. After a while, you start developing a dota "instinct" and it will be much more obvious what you should at shouldn't be doing at any given moment. A lot of people play 100 games and get frustrated that they're still shit. You probably need 1000 games to be even mediocre at Dota.

You can pretty much do any carry in the hard lane if you get a support and do a duo-lane.

If you're solo hard lane, it depends on the enemy laners. If you're going against a trilane, I don't think many carries will be able to do much, but against weak trilanes or duo-lanes, you could be ok.

What do I do if I feel like my ranked games are mostly luck? I placed at 400 and am just short of 1k (tried ranked way too early) but I am paranoid of playing ranked again because my team feeds 20 times before I even die once. As a newer playeer, I don't quite understand what to do when losing or the enemy carry is getting fat.

For example, our last game we were winning for a bit and then their PA got a desolator and kind of just womped us with some pretty high crits. What would have been the option their? eventually she got a BKB pretty quickly and took fights at will pretty much.

How do you prevent stuff like that from happening? I typically play support though and can't really stop her from getting to that point but what is the correct play?

I'm sure it won't be much fun, but even if you do lose some games because your team are a bunch of monkeys who do nothing but feed and even if you do win some games due to the enemy team being a bunch of monkeys who do nothing but feed, as long as you come out of it with a positive win-rate, you will climb the ladder.

If you can do well against players literally double your MMR in unranked, you should be able to push out of your current bracket relatively quickly.

I don't have much experience with climbing the ladder at a low MMR (I calibrated 3.9k and am now 5.8k), but I had also been playing the beta since 2011 and ranked wasn't introduced until literally years later, so I had well over 1k games before I went in and got my ranking.

If you're really desperate, you could try making a new account and just play some more games before calibrating on that one.

I don't really feel like I have a "real MMR", in fact I was having a lot of fun in 6.88 because 1v9 used to be so, so much easier in retard bracket. I always had feeders on my team, but I could still shitfuck the other team, and even if I lost it was close. In 7.00 and on this no longer seems possible because everyone already tried to snowball every game in 6.88 and usually failed because they never ended games in time; now this bullshit actually works so every game is a dice roll.

I don't care if I'm objectively bad at the game, though I do try to get better. I just want to feel like I am actually in control again.

As a new player there's a huge amount of shit you can do, but it's kinda overwhelming to focus on. In a situation like that you can do a number of things as a support

Heroes like PA and Slark are pretty much tailor made to be abused in pubs. You need to have a plan to deal with them. If your other teammates all picked cores that are weak against them, fuck supporting, pick another core. If they bitch about the lack of support, tell them they should have picked one instead. 5-core teams are not that big of a deal in the trench.

Like all I'm getting here is that people actually enjoyed last hitting creeps all day, denying off-laners, and otherwise PvEing 30 minutes just to be able to 1v5* late game.

Because this is like the 10th patch in a row where the game is forcing you to play in a certain way. That is, nuthugging each other 4v4/5v5 while going for objectives, like heroes of the storm or league of legends. In the past, ganking strats, farming strats, memefight and push strats were all equally effective. Also the game's economy is massively inflated and talents while an interesting concept, are just boring and encourage a snowbally gameplay. Also, they "smoothed out" the xp needed to reach certain levels. In the past level 12 would tale like 1100 xp to reach, and levels 6-11 and 12-15 would take less than that(many such cases), to allow people to catch up in xp.

I've noticed peoples opinion on 7.x is divided like the report/LP changes, people who play a supporting role once or maybe twice a month love that they can soak exp in lane and pick up runes to buy aghs 10 minutes earlier but experienced support players hate that pulling has been nerfed to shit.

Same with carry players, the guy who played Sven/Juggernaut once in a blue moon loves this patch because after 15 minutes of farming they just run at the enemy death ball in hand and win, meanwhile the guy who has 9000 AM games who mastered the art of ricing hates 7.X.

You can't rice no more. The jungle spawns ever 2 minutes rather than one. That means rice farmers like antimage can jump about the jungle for 1 minute and have the jungle respawn again for INFINITE AMOUNTS OF RICE.
Meanwhile, experienced support players not pulling just gives this weird and bad feeling of taking exp from the carry and not getting SUPER VALUE of denying creeps + getting exp from jungle camps + not taking your carry's exp. Now it's just switched roles where it's fun to just SMASH SMASH SMASH early and just fuckin'.

i typically play offlane/jungle and i have a serious lovehate relationship with this patch

on one hand when i get cucked in offlane i have 2 camps and ancients to farm off of and a fountain to regen with
but 2 minute fucking jungle camp respawn times and how quickly deathball begins just pisses me off

i cant even play a ricing jungler like syllabear because i have downtime in the jungle when every camp is fucking dead because of my carry/mid/myself farming it
