Why don't nations in EU4 have inherent penalties in their national ideas? Like England/Great Britain should have an inherent penalty to Diplomatic Reputation. In exchange, they could buff the numerical values of the existing positive traits.

It would add more flavor to the game.

There are no penalties in the entire game outside of random events because their target audience is too fragile for negative feedback.

The most obvious examples are the quality/quantity idea groups and religious authority for Orthodox and Muslims. Both have very obvious downsides that should acompany them but instead they are just straight benefits.

I was hoping to invade America and massacre the syndies there and have been building carrier fleets for that purpose but the USA won the civil war which is rather dissapointing. In HoI 3 the first thing you do is reorganize the order of battle. What usually bothers me is that infantry divisions start out with three infantry brigades. I usually want to upgrade them to 3 INF 1 ART and later 3 INF 1 ART 1 TD. Problem is that editing your division templates doesn't automatically upgrade your existing divisions (unlike in HoI 4, which is one of the few things it does right).

My question:
Is it faster to build loose artillery and TD brigades and add them to existing infantry divisions, or to remove the entire army and rebuild everything from scratch? [In other words, does deleting units give you back IC? And if so, is it enough to justify the cost of rebuilding everything?]

If there's one thing I really hate about this game, it's the level of micromanagement. HoI 4 takes it too far, but things like upgrading existing divisions according to new templates is something that could've easily been streamlined.

I went into HoI 3 expecting a solid game. Now I'm beginning to realize it was horribly designed, just not as horribly as HoI 4.

In vikcy tech plays a larger role and getting certain key techs like gas attack and machine guns+ the overpoweredness of mountains and such make winning battles easier. A big thing about EU4 is leaders are a massive part of it a god tier ruler can win battles 5to1 at worse tech at times. Also I find it easier as the game goes on till around 1700 or so when I can battles outnumbered 3to1 almost everytime cause I have so many combat modifiers from discipline and what not.
