Follow the Main Story Quest line and you'll level up pretty quickly for the most part. Be sure to do Hall of the Novice as soon as you're level 15. Be sure to read up on what cross class skills you need and what other class you need to turn your class into a job at level 30. Don't join the Novice Network, it's generally awful and full of mentors just using it as a personal chat. Be nice to people and you'll get niceness in return 99.5% of the time. And yeah I've checked her skin/hair tone under the different environment settings, all good on that front. What I'm doing now is listening to the voice sample clips on youtube; my friend warned me that certain voices are pretty grating if you play a melee class, and I intend to be a ninja (until they add Samurai) so I need to watch out for that. I was researching about the history of original FFXIV 1.0 which was failure. I want to know what happened to the original director. According to wikipedia he resigned "because of health reasons" - which is not probably true at all. Also, how much of the game's failure was his "fault" in the first place? Balance in this game is good on the whole and you can do well with any class.

The worst by a pretty wide margin at the moment (in endgame, in a raid environment) is Monk.
Summoner and Black Mage are the next two "worst" (the quotation marks are pretty important when I say that because neither is bad at all).

Dragoon is the strongest overall, Ninja and Machinist are not far behind, and Bard is only a little behind those last two.

I think the system is fine.
I would prefer if you would have a system that would be friendly to people that start later in the patch.

It's not just that, BRD has zero conflicting interaction with the group and it also has paean for WAR.

The other thing that doesn't get mentioned a lot is MCH + BRD enables the MCH to play mana hypercharge over the BRD, which leads to more foe uptime just off of the fact that the BRD isn't spending mana on ballad, nevermind the mana they get from the MCH ballad. It grows infinitely stronger as a fight has any period of downtime

That damage contribution of a class is the sum of that class's personal damage, plus the amount of damage that they boost the rest of the party's DPS by.

Monk basically averages about 80-150 more personal DPS than a Dragoon at current gear levels, but the Dragoon is contributing 150-200 extra party DPS through Battle Litany, and another ~150 DPS for every Bard and Machinist in the party.

When you look at it in terms of total contribution and actually start figuring out who's contributing what, Monk is probably the lowest DPS in the game currently.

(Again this applies only to an optimized endgame raid environment, and Monk is actually pretty good in the more casual types of endgame content.)

MCH gameplay is a slog compared to BRD where you're essentially hitting buttons that light up for 90 seconds while hitting things as they come off cooldown, which those buttons also conveniently light up as the CD ends on a skill so it just further adds to that effect. It's 100% a set rotation that's mapped to muscle memory with little reactionary play and that's the exact reason everyone says MNK is the easiest DPS to play

MCH isn't a pet class, you literally just place a turret and it autoattacks for you. there is no micromanaging or anything you really do with the turret except in the case of AoE where you place an AoE turret down in a spot that overlaps every target.

What's far worse is how weekly loot is handled for savages. How A9S only offers 2 chests when it has the largest pool.
Or how PoTD killed making any profit in the aqua unless it's an aqua exclusive item like new order.
Or how cross-pf will be a thing on aether.
Or how you're allowed to queue in rf for duty completion if you've never even done practice.
Or how you need to complete the latest last 2 raid savages 8 times, 8 different weeks to be guaranteed at least 1 item.
Or how if someone withdraws from a duty they can continue to do so 2 more times until the day ends before temporarily being blocked.
Or how you're allowed to have multiple properties.
Or how PvP is poorly designed into the game and has very little incentive to play it.

SMN is one of (if not the) most mobile DPS classes, and is the best DPS in the game during AoE and multitarget phases.

They suffer a little bit in the current meta because none of their strengths are played to in a major way in Creator and because BRD and MCH are wildly overpowered and casters are losing their party slots to doubling up on physical ranged, but for the most part they're not in a bad spot.

The weekly tomestone cap is the prime reason why savage endgame is so fucking sparse.

The vast majority of players need gear crutches to tackle that content. The weapons are already locked behind a 7 week gate, so let them grind expert dungeons for the rest of the gear in the meantime while they stumble through extremes for a weapon. It also sets completing the tomestone set as a sort of endgame goal that takes well over a fucking month to finish because of the cap; by that time, the content has died down tremendously.

The worst aspect of the tomestone cap is that it's in direct conflict with the game's "multiple jobs" idea. A serious endgame player who is focused on having multiple roles available for their static is better off making 10 characters to play 1 job specifically. Then they would all have separate caps and lockouts and could all be equally geared. What then is the point of the job swapping/grinding on a single character?

Yes about Battle Litany, not really about Disembowel.

If DRG only had Litany and not Disembowel, then MNK would be lower in total party DPS, but by such a small margin that you could make a strong case for MNK's defensive utility and/or stronger personal DPS being worth more than the small amount that you lose.

Disembowel, in a double ranged composition, would make MNK obsolete, even without Litany backing it up. Now part of that is that they made MCH too strong in 3.2 and then made BRD too strong in 3.3 to match, but considering that MCH was nearly shut out of Gordias raiding, and BRD was nearly shut out of Midas raiding until they got buffed, I don't know if nerfing them back down would be a realistic solution to that problem.


The cleanest solution to all of these issues (and a lot of tank balance issues, and a lot of potential future issues that are almost certain to crop up otherwise) is to just get rid of or change the effects of Storm's Eye/Dancing Edge/Disembowel/Dragon Kick. They don't really add any meaningful depth to the game, they actively restrict party compositions that should otherwise be viable, and the only two ways to solve the problems they introduce are to give them to every class (making them effectively meaningless) or to axe them entirely.

It's more likely to be shit than broken IMO. SE still seems like they got burned super hard by releasing Ninja and having it be slightly more powerful than they wanted it to be, and they've played things super safe with new classes since.

DRK was probably their best-balanced new class, but still needed some tweaks to fix some of the more obvious problems.
MCH was pretty severely underwhelming at release, to the point that they overbuffed the shit out of it for Midas because nobody was using it at all.
AST is actually STILL shit and wouldn't get so much as a second glance if not for the fact that I'm pretty sure the 3.4 Balance is actually the strongest offensive skill in the game.

Actually, FFlogs has recently had a ton of logs re-exported since the non-standard comp thing was added, so it shows your percentile vs standard+nonstandard comps in the report but your percentile against just standard comps in the rankings page. It's bugged.
So basically older parses have their percentile shoot up a lot for no reason, because there could be a BRD who ended up in a full retard run with 3 NINs or something and had their parse disregarded because "non-standard", more recent parses don't have this problem and there's a 1-2 percentile disparity sometimes, at best.
So basically Amber is actually 36th percentile.

That's not why that's happening. When you look at an actual specific fight log, the percentiles shown are relative to fights uploaded over the last two weeks starting from today, which is almost always going to be a lower percentile than the parse displayed the day it was uploaded (because damage and percentile thresholds trend upward as people gain more gear and familiarity with the fights).

That's why a character's personal Rankings page displays "Historical %" versus "Today's %".

I have a parse on my personal page where the historical percentile was 96th, but if I click on it now, I'm listed at only 67th, because it was 96th percentile on week two of 3.4 but isn't anything special now that we're 3+ months in with i270 gear.

"Hist. %" on your character page is your percentile as of the day you uploaded it.

"Perf %", once you click on that specific fight log, is giving you the percentile relative to all parses uploaded over the last two weeks (without including parses that were uploaded prior to that).
