Going to try cyclone raider. Never done a melee ranger before, what the fuck do I use to level with? Sunder until I get EQ, then go cyclone once I get ngahamu?

I leveled with Cyclone just fine. Just use whatever until level 18, then use Wideswing, then use The Cauteriser once you hit 40. The Cauteriser will easily carry you until maps, but you can obviously equip Ngamahu's at 55, so there's no need to use it for so long.

Why is Esh so fucking terrible? He has a huge nova that insta-kills me (5.5k life and 75% lightning resist) and he throws those lightning balls around the entire arena that have a massive range and do at least 3000 damage per hit, plus there's a minimum of 30 of them spread around the arena and they move around.

Uh what build do you play?

First of all, I'm pretty sure his nova hits you more than once if you stand still. If you just WALK through the nova (with like 60% movement speed) it doesn't hit that hard even at mid level range. If you are all the way at the end and stand still, it doesn't do that much damage either (could've sworn you could outrange it).

As for the orbs, they at best only cover one third of the arena only.

He and Xoph are the only Breachlords that I don't even have to take a portal to go outside to refill flasks. I have 5.6k HP and use only 1 health flask.

granted im new and shit but man, just had a spot in Kaum's lair where 10 boss totems were shooting me from 2 screens away while a devourer rare and a worm rare mob popped up on me the second I would go even remotely close and a ele reflect rare was right next to them. I eventually got it by getting close and dropping ancestral and just running around dodging the totem blasts while it killed them but I died once before I even know what the hell was happening

this isn't anything specific to hardcore, you merely describe a one in X scenario that isn't your average scenario, which is why you encountered difficulty. how well you can react to that difficulty is directly related to your type of build, few are able to handle basically anything and that's why they're preferred for hardcore. worth nothing is that there are a few options available to most builds that can drastically ease the difficulty of such encounters, for example throwing a decoy totem immediately diverts the attention of most threats, allowing for a divide and conquer approach

What auras should I be using? I was thinking of doing POF and POI with an enlighten, then blasphemy + flammability. I feel like a second purity makes breaches even safer, and it makes gearing a little bit easier, especially since I don't have the funds to endlessly essence of horror my helmet until I get a good life + resists roll.

You don't proc it. CWDT procs WHEN YOU TAKE DAMAGE and it triggers the linked gems that are the proper level. So in this case the Ball Lightning that is supported by Curse on hit and curses.

There's two types of trigger gems. Those that have conditions to trigger like CWDT or Cast When Stunned and those that require another skill to trigger the other linked spells. Note that attacks can't be triggered. The latter category contains Cast On Crit which requires a crit from an Attack to trigger and Cast While Channeling which requires the use of a Channeling tagged skill to trigger.

Not him, but i've played HC since closed beta and switched to SC in essence league. I found myself only dying to DC's, extreme frame drops and new content at the start of a league.

The game is balanced around logging out and praying that the servers don't go to shit (which they always do) for hardcore now. It's not fun anymore, the game isn't challenging anymore which was the only source of excitement with perma death.
