I just bought the Collection on PS4 but I've had vanilla Destiny since launch. I don't think anything was downloaded yet but it asked me to insert my disc. I actually do despise the writing of Rise of Iron. There's a lot of shit you can dissect and get upset about, but this one part really bothered me because it comes across to me as actually being important. Lord Saladbar tells you that Rasputin sent 'frames and constructs' to stop the Iron Lords from reaching the SIVA replication chamber. Ghost asks how will we know that Rasputin wont try and stop us again. Saladbar completely ignores this question and simply says that the Vanguard has no idea what Rasputin really is anymore.

1. We never get an answer as to why Rasputin doesn't try to stop us
2. Why didn't Saladbar tell the Vanguard about the dangers of Rasputin?

Also, why do we only fight 3 Iron Lords? There were 8 that died, what happened to the other 5? You get the impression you might fight the other 5 in the raid, and maybe discover more clues about Rasputin there too, but you don't. The boss is just a Fallen Priest. I enjoyed the raid but I fell a bit mislead. It's called 'Wrath of the Machine'. I know that the fallen are trying to turn into machines because of their religion but I was expecting with the name and story direction we'd possibly fight Rasputin but we don't, so that entire direction feels fucking pointless.

Rasputin isn't an enemy, just a Chaotic Neutral. Initially, he didn't see Guardians as humans, so he engaged self defense protocols to stop non-humans from accessing his facilities. Now, with the Vanguard having defended Rasputin quite a few times and (inadvertently) giving him access to the rest of the System, he's less trying to kill us and more trying to regain control.

It's possible the other Lords just died, and the three we fight, Jolder, Radegast and Timur (?) were either captured or left intact enough to use.

Generally speaking you, THE guardian of lore, has won over a modicum of rasputins trust.
He's let you in not only to his power supply but his main server room. Something that resulted in "lesser" guardians "strewn across the cosmodrome" just for knocking on his door.
He also is permanently located in the cosmodrome and considering SIVA is literally next door and spreading he has reason not to fuck with you. He might have even helped somewhat as SIVA he programmed all that time ago to fuck up the iron lords didn't actively attack you which meant you could just waltz into the plaguelands and into the replication chamber itself.

The rest is utter bullshit but the rasputin thread holds a little bit of water. Hell one of the SIVA guardians you fight should be an exo frame but its clearly covered in human skin underneath the SIVA since they just copy pasted the body 3 times.

Alright, so I just bought a PS4 and I'm thinking I want to start playing Destiny again. I haven't played since like a month after TDB. I am intrigued by all the new content, but I'm reading some things that make me pause. If somebody doesn't mind answering a few questions:

What purpose do the old raids serve at this point?

Are the new raids and PoE any good compared to VoG? CE was solid, but not as good.

I've also read that many old exotics are obsolete now as well and only some have versions that can reach full power?

I've seen that the game is now around twice as large as it was when I stopped playing, but is it really? Is the content from HoW/TTK/RoI meaty or just padding?

It also seems like the progression system has been changed to fast track people up to the latest content instead of being linear. How true is that?

I'm mainly concerned that if I get back into the game I won't have any reason to play the old content and I will basically be buying all new content with the old stuff tacked on. I like the idea of playing Destiny with the level of content I always hoped it had, but if the old content has essentially been phased out and you are fast-tracked through to the RoI content, I feel it will be like playing the same size game from before, just different content. I'm not in such a hurry to go back to endless grinding, so I will hold off if it would just feel like a half-baked Destiny 2 instead of the fully realized Destiny I saw the potential for.

At the beginning of Year 2 they didn't bring all exotics. But at this point in time most old exotics can still be used. There's a few still missing, like Pocket Infinity and Vex Mythoclast though.

Definitely a lot of new content, but it's still Destiny which means you're going to be doing the same thing over and over and you're going to see the same places over again a lot

Very true. They reworked how RNG works and the way you get loot.

Everything you get from there can be dismantled for the upgrade materials and shard/energy that can be turned into the Speaker for Motes of Light or Glimmer, also nostalgia and fun

King's Fall has a lot of mechanics in it but can be very tedious, Wrath of the Machine is a more accepted raid in terms of enjoyment and mechanics, easily rivaling VoG

You heard wrong, every exotic in the game can be max level again except for the Pocket Infinity, CE and Vog exotic guns

over 9 million daily logins, the game picked up speed and Dark Below was really the only poor DLC we have had, TTK was definitely meaty and produced many different kinds of content to last, House of Wolves brought new modes that players actively participate in weekly such as a very competitive pvp mode, RoI brought custom/private matches like we all wanted along with some new mechanics for Artifacts and a better look at the Iron Lords.

The new way Light works is it scales to your current Light Level in terms of the gear you obtain, but they changed it from 21-35 Light to increments of 100

The study they hired for help on D2 had to haul ass and help pop out The Dawning but now they're swamped for a mid 2017(hopefully) release of D2 and have no time to help the liveteam out. The liveteam mind you took a full year to pop out something as small as RoI with help so how do you suppose they'll manage a new updated raid with no help and a major time crunch? Hell, the 3 new SIVA strikes took them 3 months with minor help and advice.

They talked about it on one of the livestreams. It was a sort of reveal for the studio having a hand in bungie affairs. It took them 3 months for the nee siva strikes. SRL would have taken no time at all since they can literally copy and paste it from 2015 with a few tweaks.

They can't expect people to stay interested in Destiny until September when Destiny 2 releases with no new content. And let's be honest, they're not going to make new content, and there's really nothing else to update besides the raids. I'm no programmer, but I imagine updating the raid would be relatively easy. There's different ways they could do it

No, you really aren't. They literally copy and pasted the knights moveset onto the SIVA guardians and you can see the interviews talking about how long THAT took them. Even doing things like replacing everything with taken or doing new lines would take a good amount of time and thats if they don't do any set changed like taken splotches and bubbles everywhere. I know it sounds easy but its fairly labor intensive and if you haven't noticed it yet, the live team can't into labor. They literally had to outsource part of the work load to a more competent studio who is now busy with actual bungie on D2.

Archon's Forge is great way to get shit ton of loot fast. It can drop Sublime or Legendary Engrams and Forge loot itself. Just make sure you get group for that shit for fast grind and have all the Shiro-4 bounties. Doesn't matter who makes SIVA offerings the awards are RNG. I know cause I burned 5 Perfected SIVA's and got nothing to show for it.

So just from that statement i'll go ahead and assume that you're new to the game, don't know it's a rather common enemy in all kinds of activities later on, started playing through the story and ran into Devil's Lair solo because the game is so dead it couldn't matchmake you?
There's usually three of you for a strike, it's supposed to be somewhat of a bullet sponge compared to trash mobs, but it goes down rather quickly if you snipe crit spots.

Yeah, if you don't have three people that know how to fight it (stay back and shoot its legs with a high impact sniper rifle until the core is exposed, then snipe the core with a high impact sniper rifle) it actually does take ages to go down.
If you run into difficulties, it never hurts ot post for help here. The thread is dead as fuck so 99% of times you won't get responses, but still, worth a try. Some of the people in here are pretty cool.
