double check the failsafes are actually connected. they don't join to every available surface on the LWC they're fussy. I know they work because these two front turrets don't shoot each other. You can also edit the failsafe settings to increase or decrease the tolerance.

As for torpedoes I'd like to know that one myself. ppl say edit fire constraints but it doesn't seem to work.

So I've finished going through every FtD tutorials and all the story missions. And I still don't understand what kind of game I am playing. Is it some kind of RTS-like ship building simulator with physics? Like, no one in this thread mentionned the RTS aspect, yet when I tried to play the campaign, I'm thrown in some kind of huge map with encounters like in an RPG.

I think I can get through that.

What I can't get through is this game's fucking lore. Parents? Revenge? Dude I'm a fucking ugly disembodied robot that moves horrendously and has magic tentacles coming out of its body. How am I supposed to get immersed in any kind of story? Are they going to like revamp the entire graphics at some point? How are they gonna justify the tentacles part?

Yes, the failsafes display "connected to local weapon controller".
I've solved the missiles, in the missile controller block you can set extra constrains and those will prevent the missiles from firing if the enemy isn't in that angle.
I've attached a screen of how I've set them up, for azimuth 0 is front, + is right and - is left.
Pic is the right side, they shoot 15 deg right from the front, and all the way to the back.
Too bad it doesn't go over 180, so it won't shoot if the target is slightly over the middle of the back.

Why did the torpedoes decide that my ship was a good target even though there's a friend or foe detection addon?
Do I need a flag? The wiki doesn't say so.
The thing happened after a couple of minutes the torpedoes were launched, so it might be some error in the targeting that sent them running in a circle or something

Fucking top lel. Three instances of REM running at once, 500+ parts per instance, roughly 46-ish fps. We also have some basic failstate shit in, so REM is finally technically a game now. Also keeping track of matches/wins/losses/draws in a given instance, with auto restarting so if you feel like leaving it running for a few hours to repeatedly test a design you can do that too.

That's a neat idea, anon, but that's also a whole lot of trouble for 'just' a neat idea. There's a few ways to implement this into the multiplayer as a co-op mode where you have to kill the evolved ship that's using the gene seed of a star fighter, but that's a whole lot of trouble and bugs waiting to happen.

Run that 20 times, then throw them at eachother for 20 rounds and pick the best 5 based on hits taken, hits dodged, maneuverability, and how highly each is weighted against the other two. Then repeat for the next generation.

I suppose symmetry makes this at least somewhat easier, but the problem of control then arises, given the complexity of REM's pid system in comparison to the LOL MAGIC of most games in 6dof.

I think we're the only ones with hardcore realistic physics on the movement side of things, in any case.

But for a thruster to properly interact with the PID and AI system, they need to be manually bound. What you'd get, given we got it at all, would be a blob of parts tumbling around and spitting bullets everywhere.

Only so much you can fix by adding more typewriters and monkeys to the equation.

HWS has custom scripts and shit, when you join, you select your starter planet, which determines what origin faction you belong to, which have benefits and such. Freelancer is 'vanilla' and doesn't get any benefit. If you wanna play on the server you should check out their site.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off as abrasive. The way we are going about it actually helps a lot in the server domination area. Splinter Factions seem to be viable. Hell, it wouldn't even be bad if we had a splinter of traders or guardians.

And yeah, the origins you get can basically be thought of as a "class". Then your guild (comprised of only people of the same origin as you) is a "faction". A group of allied factions is an alliance and can be between factions of different origins.

In terms of the weekly supply packages they get, bounty hunters get more items focused on small vessels and hunting down individuals, where as pirates get materials and a full compliment of weapons for strong capital vessels.

Bounty hunters have their own rules that you should look up on the site, but pirates get to raid people pretty much freely but we have to parle if they offer up money or items in exchange for a safe surrender.

Hold down "N" to bring up the build tool menu and check the box that shows structural integrity. Everything will turn green, and stuff thats structurally unsafe will go yellow, orange and then red as it gets less and less stable.

Ships dont have structural integrity though, and landing a ship on a building has no effect on the buildings integrity.

turns out yes, you can swap trailers between two vehicles.

the trailer and truck of both the red and orange truck were made in the garage as one piece, yet you can disengage the trailer anywhere and pick it up with another vehicle.

I've found the easy way to do buildings is either to memorize their AI locations ahead of time, or have piercing particle cannons that target AI and just stand by their target. Lasers work good too, but at that point in the campaign the amount of fuel a good one burns isn't worth it.

Second one is the Iguana

This one is a heavy assault ship with a super heavy advanced triplet cannon that fires 500mm armor pericing rounds that explode after pericing there armor, leading to some good internal damage.

What's leftist about the modern consensus among highway engineers? Cars are an incredibly inefficient way to get around a city, there's nothing political about that fact.

Also, if you're still interested in playing it, there's a mod that gives you control over lane arrows, priority signs and speed limits called traffic manager president edition. It's one of the mods that's so mandatory I always forget that it's not part of the vanilla game.

Other massive things do lag too, like a wall of drills or welder, or things that keep cluttering the conveyor line with requests, or long range detectors. Obviously all depends on how powerful your computer is.

Adding more furnaces isn't gonna increase your iron production.
Note that less than half of your furnaces are currently active due to iron ore shortage.
Also, you don't need that much coal - one piece of coal is enough for some 25 pieces of ore (when using steel furnace).
As for the output belts, you really ought to share them between furnaces. Currently, you have 2*n output belts, where you could settle for n+1.

Also, Yellow/Red/Blue belts have throughput of 800/1600/2400 items per minute.
What this means is that one blue belt cannot carry enough ore for more than 70 steel furnaces.

I know that furnaces are idle now, I had problem of not processing before I connected the second line. I expected to use that second line for another blue belt of ore. Also have my old Starcraft manual. Tons of pictures and descriptions on everything in the game. Even has actual short stories about the different races, lore and major characters.

Naval AI card. Approach distance ( or whatever it's actually called. Enjoy it not actually working.

The best way to do it is to learn how your ships like to move and position them in a way that they aren't likely to run into one after the battle starts.

Thrusters can go anywhere. So long as they are pointing in the same direction all thier force will be applied in that direction. You could totally encase your thrusters behind armor if you want.

But homing missiles are the meta, because aiming is really hard in space with multiple KM between you and your moving target.

Because ships all have the same max speed, which is lame, just try to fly away from people attacking you. If you get a head start they will never catch up.

There isnt really any defense against homing missiles. Theres no anti-missile systems in the game.

Testing with three instances and another game running to simulate a toaster. Runs at about 30-ish with some infrequent stutters that don't summon clang.

We also tossed in a spectator mode that automagically spins and zooms the camera to keep both ships in shot. Took like twenty seconds. There's also a setting to set the arena obstacles to a transparent sort of deal, so you can see the ships through them when the camera pans around a wall or some shit.

Would anyone be interested in a kinda-sorta-clunky Twitch Plays REM? You'd upload your build though the game, entering it into the king of the hill tournament on the Stream, which we'd run on a master client. Winner stays on, loser gets knocked back down to the bottom of the que. Not quite multiplayer, but getting there.

Speaking of streams, we're doing on in a bit where we're going to look at all the previous versions of REM together as a six month anniversary, once I get the next State of the Game and the latest alpha uploaded.

Unfortunately, to make team fights a thing that's even a little feasible is going to take a while. We've set the matches to last 180 seconds. (In practice, they last on average 45-70 seconds) The queue would be reset every hour.

Major thing preventing AI teams is target prioritisation, which we can cheese by just taking FtD's system of "shoot biggest thing that's closest" or whatever, but there's no system currently in place to even count the number of parts of a ship outside of the builder, much less calculation on the distance from the target. While these are all easy things, we'd like to release 0.37 by today or tomorrow. We ran into quite a bit of feature "bloat" (ie: things we planned for and just decided to do now, when we initially planned to just implement the new physics and get the game working again) so we're cutting new features off to 0.38.

Definitely for ground combat though, that'll be a major priority. Spess is great for 1v1 dueling, ground is much better suited for team combat.

Like hell it's worth 15€ for now.

The idea is good, it's a dumbed down version of more complicated robot simulators, and the logic gate wiring would be sort of fun if not for the UI/controls.
The building part is okay, it makes me wonder if there are two people working on this, and one made the horrible circuit part while the other made the acceptable (even if not perfect) building system.
The tutorial is fucking boring.
Already said my two cents about the horrible UI and controls.

Overall, if you can get it for anything from 5 to 10 euro it would be fine, otherwise wait for it to be decent.
But keep in mind that things like v-rep are free for private use and you might actually learn something out of them, the only selling points are the logic gate wiring and the fact that it's more simplified than a real one.

Been playing heavily modded MC lately since I needed a game where I don't ever think and waste massive loads of time
The aspects I find most fulfilling are having machines that make things more convenient or faster that can be automated to a varying degree (things getting too automated turns it into a waiting game for free stuff),
pleasing ways of transporting things (the pipes in mc mods are boring on large scales; trains in MC and in Factorio are noice),
expansiblity and upgradability of machines (getting more throughput by make machine bigger and more complex; making [Machine Tier I] and then using [Machine Tier I] in the recipe for [Machine Tier II]),
and usefulness of components throughout gameplay (I don't want to have a container full of bolts that can unly be used in tier one machines sitting around while I'm on tier 7)

also microcrafting is shit, mc mods tend to have this problem in spades. Factorio handles this for hand crafting by allowing you to only have to know the raw materials you need and crafting the in between shit for you, and makes factories interesting to set up because it's not just one magic box that takes in the raw materials and really quickly makes the thing by skipping the intermediate steps

I always encase my cores in 2-3 layers of armor all the way around. You never need to access the physical core anyway. Just press "P" while looking at your ship close up and you can access everything on it. If you really, really wanted you could encase EVERYTHING in armor, with no space to walk around at all, since you can access everything through the menu when you press "P".

The starter planets are resetting in about 5 hours, which means all the alien bases full of loot will be back, as well as all the ore deposits.

But that also means that all the big factions will be hitting these starter planets, stripping them fucking clean, which is total bullshit. Starter planets are meant for new players/factions to start out on in a safe enviroment so they can get their basic shit together and then head into space, but since the planets reset every friday the big guys just come in and gut them out once a week, and anybody actually trying to start out gets nothing.

HWS NA, and HWS EU are the only two servers that have a large amount of players on them. There are plenty of servers that kept the offline protection function, but they only have like 20 people on them tops, where as HWS NA has over almost 150 right now.

But without Offline protection, that just means enemy player factions just find where your base is and then wait for all your guys to log off, and then nuke your base. It why leaving the bait ships everywhere to track later thing is so popular. It lets big factions stomp out any small factions and keep it that way.

You could try it, but it would be really fucking hard to pull off.

Most of these faggots will sit at super long range outside of radar range just slowly creeping around looking at your shit in the distance. Youd have to wait for them to already be outside their ships looting things by hand before you strike, and wipe them out.

And like the guy in that imgur link, because he was part of a stupid big faction, mostl likely with their own $300 planet they bought on the server, he flew in with his massive capital vessel to make sure nothing could hurt him.

If I remember correctly, as long as the dev hasnt fixed it - large vessels were quite vunerable to being rammed at high speed as the ships could clang through one another.

Could be a viable tactic for boarding the enemy vessel.

How much lore is known about Empyrion? Single player isnt played on a server. Its all on your PC.

The particular server we play on has its starter planets set to reset themselves once a week, so new players always have a place to start out that has rescources.

Thanks for the input. I sort of wanted to do transport with pipes. I wanted the player to be able to have several factories on different planets, all producing and selling automatically. I wanted true resources to be counted in terms of products per second, anything that isn't renewable should quickly run out, forcing you to build self-sufficient factories. Hence the pipes, because I'd want some sort of simplified model of all your factories running all the time. I'd imagine simple buffer would be lighter in computation than a belt. I see that I'll have to rethink some aspects of this mechanic

the pipes in factorio have a pressure mechanic for fluids
a lot of pipe mods in minecraft need no power or just need power at the leading end to get things up to speed then they keep going at the same speed to the end
