For non tech I use some chisel type of stone.
For tech I either use IE concrete alot around the buildings and the rest on natural (like tf2 builds with the mix of concrete builds and wooden builds). Or just make dirt roads around the path I walk by.

Oh yeah. In terms of tech, BC will be added soon, there's railcraft for long-term transportation solutions and, to a smaller degree, there's teleporters. Although that mod only adds one item to the game, it's worth mentioning due to how big of an impact it can have on a person's gameplay once they have them. If a person has 2 or more bases that are far away, they'll no longer have to travel thousands or tens of thousands of blocks between them. As time goes on and more teleporters with different keys are made, people could experiment using random key items to teleport to other players' teleporters on the other side of the world. Imagine discovering giant, well-built bases that way

Speaking of that, that's the end-game content I've mostly been focusing on so far: adding more aesthetic options for midgame and endgame base-building. Chisel alone adds over 1,000 new aesthetic blocks, but there are roughly six more mods that add some more of their own. The most noteworthy one is probably SignPicture. Using that, a player could theoretically upload and use any texture they want, at least for surfaces like walls

And when it comes to non-tech, non-base-building endgame content, some community-driven options are:

Banding together to achieve common goals (forming a small faction to build a gigantic base, for example)
Competitions (cumming soonâ„¢)
Finding and raiding - or just peacefully visiting/taking pictures of - other peoples' bases
Glitch hunting
Helping new players. I've always found it fun to leave chests filled with items around spawn on all sorts of servers
Hunting new players. Not my thing, but I can see why other people would have fun with it
PvP
Roleplaying/Self-imposed challenges (pacifist playthroughs for [x amount of time], limiting yourself to only using one type of weapon or one tier of items, playing a rogue/warrior/smith/whatever archetype of character, etc. Works best in conjunction with the first thing, forming or joining groups of players)

I'm of a bit of a mixed mind about Matter Overdrive.

The ideas in it are awesome, and the weapons design is the best thing since ScottyDoesKnow left Minecraft development*, but the robots are too frequent for my taste and, well, the quests need a bit less ambiguity. (I was told to put the 'transmitter' near a ship and put it ON the ship for minimum distance. The game decided that didn't count.)

...Anyone else miss SDK's gun mod?

Matter Overdrive is not a big mod, what it does it does right. Botania tries to do be very centralized and adds a lot of things not focused on the mod concept. If the mod separated the flower generation from the extra stuff like decoration blocks, many of the tools and such it would be better.

Well this has been tricky to implement but it's finally coming together.

What I've got going on here is a little trinket that will let your create a shadow copy of yourself, and when used will let you swap your location with your shadow.

I think this will open up a lot of mobility options. Safer exploration, new tactics for fights and saving time on travel and building time around a base.

Looks like it does, most of it's from Immersive memeing. The bucket wheel is an excavator that kind of works like a minefactory laser, and on the back looks like a diesel generator providing it with power. In between are power cables and a conveyor belt feeding into what looks like a railcraft minecraft loader.

what you do is make a dumb dead creative world to futz with.
in recurrent complex there's a bunch of utilities you can use to configure its chest loot. these are the white and blue items in its NEI pages.
one of them, I think its the blue ones, you can take into your inventory, right-click, and get a menu that will allow you to modify the default loot drops of chests that spawn in whatever structures.

you can also import a rec-com structure and change what is in the chests, reselect the building and export it to a new (or overwrite) building and make the other obsolete. this structure will now spawn the lootables you want.

you can also make your own loot tables and add them to your own structures, dropping any item in any amount you want.

That's true. Unfortunately, I'm using the 1.7.10 version of RC and it's either broken as hell in general or it's just broken on TFC servers. Coincidentally I just made a post about these glitches on one of the mod's download pages. The pic describes the problems

But even if all those glitches are fixed, another major problem is that, as far as I can tell, there aren't any UA items that you could place in RC chests which would make random items. For example, one of the closest things is a UA item in NEI that'll give you a random piece of diamond armor. But the moment you move it into your inventory, it instantly transforms the blank item into a random piece of diamond armor with a set of enchantments on it. If I put that in an RC chest - a diamond chestplate for example - then that RC chest would always spawn that chestplate with those specific enchantments on it

The loot tables thing might work though. How do I work with those using UA item IDs and RC chests? And thanks for all this advice

Okay, so, working from what I've just tested.
The white item with a descriptor of x to y items, is what you will be using to sneak-r-click on chests to get a test sample of what it generates.

to get UA items into RC chests you would be reconfiguring the RC loot tags. These are the shard-looking ones that have 'Active' in green in their tooltip. Taking them into your inventory and just right-clicking, not into a chest or anything, this will bring up an interface like this.
from here you can reconfigure the loot that will spawn with this tag.

As with all the tags added by RC they correspond to specific structures or sets of structures. All the village ones spawn in its generated Vanillage structures, etc.

using it is pretty simple. you just take whatever item you want, and place it in the slot.

I do not know how it will handle UA's random loot items, if it will take them at all. However, I know as a fact you can nest these loot tags. So for example you could make a new loot tag, and add the white tag for PeacefulCrypt and UnderwaterShrine and save that to place in a structure.

In theory that could almost work, but there are two big problems. The first is that I can't get it to change the items it outputs. For example, if I remove cobwebs from the same tag you used in your screenshot and replace it with another item, cobwebs will continue to spawn and the new item won't spawn, even though the chat logs claim that the changes were saved and opening the tag to edit it again shows that they were saved

Still wouldn't work due to how horrendously glitchy tags are in 1.7.10 MC. There are even more glitches which occur that I forgot to mention when using these tags in 1.7, one of which is that, after opening and closing your inventory and experiencing 2-4 of the glitches that were mentioned earlier, even more random items may suddenly be thrown in front of you. Another is that the graphics for some of your item/armor slots glitch out and display things that aren't there or constantly display highlighted textures, as if your mouse is hovering over those slots at all times. listen, gregtech can be played as hard or as mawpc as you want
if you add twilight forest you can make ironwood pipes and steeleaf engines.
if you add thaumcraft you can make thaumium and void crucibles.
if you add railcraft you'll be able to make creosote and charcoal/coke easy enough. most of the stuff from these mods have values set in gt so you'll be able to smelt down rc machines for their metal, for example.
if you add buildcraft you don't have to search for underground gt oil wells, as bc spawns that shit everywhere.
adding mods only strengthen GT. and gregtech is not gonna stand in your way like dragonshit would.

but I would say ironchest is a bit redundant; gt6 have a bunch of double chest-sized metal and wood+metal chests

and there's multiblock tanks and coke ovens and extra rail types in GT6, so a lot (but definitely not all) of railcraft would be redundant.

you do get less sticks if don't use machines or saws, but the base recipe is still there
vanilla wood slabs need a saw by default. I think GT5U and earlier still let you craft the oak version without tools because many mods use it for their early stuff.
and there's of course like 5 megs of configs for tweaking, so turning off those wood related changes is just one change away (B:WoodNeedsSawForCrafting=false)

How do I into Traincraft?
I finally caved in to this general's shilling and installed it on my SSP pack, now I'm fucking around with it in a flatworld, but looking at the not-even-entire NEI page and the in-game documentation I feel a bit let down.
Other than actually working engines, coupling and the four-way track, it doesn't seem like it comes with the real fancy shit like automating fueling or setting up stations where the train picks up and drops off shit all by itself...
Sure all the trains looks good and their custom models don't horribly clash with Minecraft's blockiness but they still don't do anything unless I'm manually driving an engine. I really don't want to compare it to the abortion that is vanilla Minecarts but these things take even more effort and resources (especially iron) to set up than those to the point I'd still rather walk, without any speed buffs, than waste so much time, effort and iron building tracks.
Especially since the work train which is supposed to make track setup easier doesn't even seem to work properly period.

I feel like i'm missing something critical, that or I'm helplessly retarded.

Change every recipe in Minecraft such that you can't do anything until you've used thousands of logs gathered manually with your first to craft your first tool. The number of logs required for each tier of progression increases exponentially and it can only be harvested via you holding M1 with your fist.

Heh. We actually brought up this issue a few times in the inner BuildCraft circles back in the day. Quarries are a bit paradoxical - if you make them too late-game, they're effectively useless in a standard modding environment as you've already crafted most of what you wanted to have; if you make them too early-game, you invalidate a huge chunk of the usual mining progression. My plan before I quit the BuildCraft team was to keep their current price, but (a) make them scale worse with size (making multiple small quarries more efficient than one quarry of equal area, because you then need to invest in every quarry + additional automation piping) and (b) make them a bit more expensive to sustain - I proposed adding non-power requirements, but the general consensus was that that would be too extreme for BuildCraft.

Yeah, the consensus seems to be "make hunger less of a problem." I'll make it much easier to deal with in the early game, which is all that really matters. By the time you reach midgame, you've already got groves of fruit trees and entire chests filled with food. That being said though, I'll also make hunger easier to deal with in the midgame and endgame (can't really change it for some players and not change it for others), but without there being as much of an impact on the mid and endgame

When I set spawn there a year ago, I remember that I only cared about a diversity of mostly flat land to build on, plenty of mountains nearby to build on, and rock salt as the biome's rock type so players could make use of it. I didn't stop to think about things like that. I was aware of the colder temps making the gameplay more difficult, and I liked that, but it seems like that's driving players off. Difficulty to the point that people quit because of it is too much

there's a point of tension between removing eIO or AE2. depends entirely on who wants which one in the pack. There ARE other techmods of course, like Matter Fucking Overdrive which goes in for sure.

magic mods would definitely exclude Blood Magic: Spreadsheet Grinding and flowerfag's mod if I put it together, your mileage may vary.

other nitpicks like chisel and whatever can be hashed out on an etherpad.

Well, yes, it's designed for modded, as is everything vaguely useful for minecraft, so saves and servers wouldn't be compatible.
I don't even know of alternate launchers, and even if there were any good ones, they'd probably be similar.

BetterQuesting? The upside over HQM is that the quest files are JSON files instead of packed binary, so any random nerd can edit them. Also, NEI integration.

The downside is that crafting quests don't detect any kind of crafting other than vanilla crafting tables. And for some fucking reason, every pack maker wants to make crafting quests for items you have no way to get other than by crafting them.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what's GoG? Googling "minecraft" in quotation marks and "GoG" in quotation marks reveals nothing relevant, and adding -site:gog.com doesn't help either. Just youtubers, a mod that stopped being updated in 2011, and pirated video game links. I didn't see anything about it in the OP either

I'm confused, the MaxEntityCramming rule is supposed to be active in 1.11.2, right?

I set myself up a sweet triple cave spider spawner farm. Mobs don't seem to be suffocating. Pretty sure they were doing so when I had them crammed in a different way (floating up on a 1x1 water source).
