Aurelion Sol, on release, was one of the most broken champions to ever be released by Riot. Though many people think champions like old Xin Zhao, old Twisted Fate, and release LeBlanc are the top most broken champs, nothing will top Aurelion Sol, and any Challenger who's played this game for a long time will also agree.

Aurelion Sol is the definition of a control champ. The second you walked into lane, you would just press W, shove the first wave, and then you would go to the enemy jungler's wraiths and take one of the small ones to get to level 2 while also denying the enemy jungler his level 3. This was broken as all hell because it meant that you got to level up before any other laner, and allowed for you to snowball off of that one very tiny experience lead. Then, after shoving the second wave, you would recall, recharge your corrupting potion, and then go back mid to shove the wave, hit level 3, and gank bot immediately after for a free double kill every time. His damage and control were so good that Riot has done nothing but nerf him and his items without any compensation whatsoever.

This led to the inflation of many Aurelion Sol mains' Elos. If you look at any of their win rates, you might see that they have a few champs with 50% win rate, a few with 60% win rate, over a good amount of games. However, there was not a single Aurelion Sol main who didn't have a win rate over 65% while also having a shitload of games. There were many Diamond V players who got to Challenger just by spamming Aurelion Sol. After those nerfs, they dropped back hard into their shtiter Elos. That's how good of a champ Aurelion Sol was, but you also had to put some effort into learning him. The only people who were actually good at Aurelion Sol are the people who still play him in high Elo while also maintaining a consistently high win rate and KDA.
