What do you think of how ES2 ties its system level and luxury resource systems together?

So did the latest patch fuck with ship AI? because my cruisers all charge ahead of corvettes despite being slow as fuck. And my battleships keeps acting retarded, 1 will charge forward while the other sits back waaaay out of range and doesn't fire weapons and both of them are the same class.

If it's Stellaris, the combat AI has always been retarded.

Very good idea
>>
>>163712045
Makes sense. Civilization tends to develop with wealth. Gives luxury resources more meaning as well.
>>
>>163714998
Probably the best purchase you made honestly.
Amplitude is like paradox where they have the base game that's kinda meh but the DLC's are really fucking good.
Except in Amplitude's case the base game is actually fairly good in its own right, but still the DLC's add so much stuff its great.

>>163714707
Yeah it's Stellaris. For some reason my cruisers and battleships act retarded instead of battling the way they should. My Corvettes have 3.0 for speed and yet my cruisers just blast past them to be the first to fight despite being slow as fuck.
>>
In stellaris, there's no way to ask for a faction to open it's borders? I'm doing the exotic creature quest and my "defense pact +115 trust" friend closed his borders with me.

Why'd you ever buy an amplitude game, now? They were bought by Sega this summer; don't give those pigs money.
>>

http://lparchive.org/Distant-Worlds-Legends/

Same guy also did a Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universalis IV, Victoria II, Distant Worlds Let's Play.
>>
>>163730425
Well, Sega has actually release a few good products, look at Total War Warhammer and Alien Isolation, and we already know Amplitude can make great games by having near perfect tracl record from Endless Space to Endless Legend. ES1 is kinda simple in that regard, but it was their first game and they needed to find out what they wanted to do and how to do it which became really good in EL.
ES2 seems to become a really interestning game aswell.

Give them the money so Sega knows this is a company worth investing in.

Inb4 shill. I just love EL a lot

No.
>>
>>163729886
you can go to war with them and demand they open their borders :^)

>>
Is ES2 worth buying into? I've enjoyed ES1 and EL, hell I've got a good few hours in all of their games.
I'm probably going to buy it eventually, I'm just wondering if its worth it so far in its current state.
>>
>>163733946
Still EA.
>>
>>163733149
Paradox made Europa Universalis right? Why is the diplomacy so terrible in Stellaris.
>>
>>163734021
Eh, I've bought EA games before. Some ended up great like CotN, and then starbound. I've seen both sides of what comes out of that shit.
I just want to know if its potential is currently there and amplitude IS working on it during EA as is the purpose of the entire system.
>>
>>163734057
It is a mystery. Even I managed to have fun with Europa Universalis IV. How they could fuck up Stellaris this bad is a complete mystery.
>>
>>163734057
>>163734180
Stellaris is Paradox's first attempt at a 4x game, in which I really believe they were trying to copy off of SoSE (in which they failed miserably).
I guess they thought that because its a 4x that means it doesn't need that good a diplomacy, which makes no fucking sense but whatever.
>>
I wish i could build a city here.

Also question just cause im curious. Which world wonder gives the most Science when you use Darwin on it?
>>
>>163734256
Anyone with some experience in marketing could've told them that people buy paradox games for the grand aspect.
So unless they tried to casualize their game to bring a new fanbase, I don't see why Stellaris is so simple compared to Crusader "Eugenism" Kings 2 or Europa "MANA" universalis 4.
>>
>>163729886
Nope. If they have enough reason to close their borders to you then they will remain closed until you force them open with war. The AI suffers from a serious lack of pragmatism. It seems to make all diplomatic decisions based on their ethics and economic or strategic advantages do not factor in at all. So even if a deal would be extremely beneficial to them in short and/or long term they will refuse it purely because they don't like your empire's policy on, say, AI servitude.
>>
>>163734349
Civilization never got mountain-tunnels?
>>
>>163734256
>I really believe they were trying to copy off of SoSE
It does feel like that, but lately they seem to be copying off Civ V with the traditions thing they're implementing in 1.5. Which I guess is a good thing since it adds more depth to things, but it doesn't really fix any of the systemic issues with gameplay.
>>
Is Stellaris all about doom stack fleets or is there any strategy to fleet-building?
>>
>>163733946
If you're going to buy it eventually, buy it now then since it is discounted compared to the full release.
>>
>>163734868
There's a dominant meta for weapon types and you can't deviate from it too much or you won't get anywhere. You're better off having one mega fleet because the way battles work even if you have multiple smaller fleets whose combined power is greater than the enemy they will still win if their power is greater than the individual fleets they engage against. It's retarded.
>>
>>163729886

I was surprised by the steam controller in a good way. Haptic feedback touch pads are responsive and let me move cursors with enough accuracy for me to play Distant Worlds from my couch.
Single player shooters are also comfy as fuck to play with a controller.
Another thing to note is that a game doesn't have to have controller support to have a good control scheme. More often than not there are decent community made control configurations for games without dedicated controller support.
All that said, I wish they'd make a 2.0 version already. Tons of little not-picky things that could be improved.

Troop bays on warships is both good and bad.

Good b/c you can snipe-invade independants with a small task force and have some ready made defence in position immediately.

Bad b/c a dedicated troop ship is better at carrying shooty mans, and bays take up space you could use for guns or fuel, and you're paying maint. for something you'll barely use.

If you *have* to have troops on a warship use boarding pods, they are better in 99% of cases.
Use dedicated troop ships for your spess adventurism.
Build a supply ship with the bare minimum mission equipment to qualify the design and fill the rest of the space with troop bays, then pick up your entire homeworld garrison and drop it someone who's been giving you shit. whoslaughingnow.txt

>>163736341
Yes. There have been several people saying the same thing for a while now.
Give pirates nothing, and kick them in dick repeatedly until they become irrelevant. Repeat.

There are only 3 occaisons where pirates are an actual threat you have to give a shit about:

A pirate gang gets lucky enough to have enough money to build a collossal fleet of bees. Individual ships are weak but there's so many of them they are a complete pain to fight.

A pirate gang gets lucky enough to have a spy character with decent sabotage skills.
Sabotage missions have a decent chance for success, and skills boost it further.
Annoying as fuck replacing random stations, but acts as a good motivator to stomp on thier heads until they stop moving.

You have disasters turned on, and you've run the game long enough to spawn a 'dread pirate' gang.
These guys don't fuck about and behave actually competantly, attacking things with a fleet instead of odd ships.

Stranded colony ships are one of the better things you can find.
Especially if it contains a race who can colonise a type of planet currently unavailable to you.
If you can keep a majority population wherever you settle them, you can build more colony ships (and troops) of that race.

The only downside is that if your race is one that the bugs naturally rival, then you'll have a happiness penalty on any planet with the bugs on it. Not huge, just means lower taxes.

They're just upset b/c the planet has zero resources on it. Just zero the taxes, and wait for some frieghters turn up, you'll be fine.

You can hurry things a little if you order a small port to built, as ports are priority projects and attract transports from all over.
Make sure to put a medical and recreation bay on it to get a bit of extra happy.

You WANT that Gizurean world if you can get it.
The ability to colonise volcanic worlds this early in a Human game is big. (And thier maintenance saving skill won't hurt either.)

Colony ships can work, but it's not likley as they are naturally hostile.
Not worth potentially wasting the Kiadans on that.

If you load up colony ship with THEIR species you can colonize their planets.

Not directly.
But any world uses the majority population to fill colony ships built there, and create troops raised there.

So if you control that volcanic world, it will likely have a majority Gizurean population forever, and any colony ships you build there will use Gizurean pop which can colonise volcanic worlds by default.

The only downside is the happiness penalty, which as you've seen is managable.

Unless you absolutely adore the setting of the endless games, hold off on it for a bit. It's getting there, but there are still balance issues, some minor niggling things with missions, and performance/stability problems as the game goes on.

UE is boss and OP as fuck right now. They're pretty much on par with the cravers as production goes thanks to their bonuses, don't suffer from overconsumption, and while they field fewer ships in a fleet than the cravers, their ships get extra gun mounts at the cost of defense which is disgusting early game because they can just sit at maximum range and shit lasers at anything until it dies.

Every other race feels really shitty compared to the UE.

That is low. Civvies are usually rolling in cash.
Although you hardly have any pop at all - 9B is tiny, and spread over 6 worlds means your infrastructure (planetary developmet rating) is going to be low so the economy is hardly moving b/c there isn't enough development to drive it.

In my opinion it is the best 4X that has ever been released so far.

I find it more fun than SMAC, DW, Stellaris and Civ IV.

Right now I hope Endless Space 2 will turn out to be another masterpiece, but I guess that will require a few expansions like all 4X games do.

The best ingame music for a comfy 4X game so far. I even find it more immersive than the music in StarCraft 1 which is still really good.

The diversity of tech which gives you different options on how to deal with roaming armies, tech, wonders, equipment for units and heroes etc..

The diverse feel between all of the factions which multiplies replayability by a billion and makes it more fun to play with friends where you all obtain tech and resources differently in most cases.

Great graphics where everything really fit the setting.

There is always something fun to do, quests, ruins, infiltration, level up armies and heroes, designing units etc..

Fun D&D'ish initiative based combat.

Every faction can buy heroes from whatever faction type they want to get that exact type of boosts to their army, cities etc..

That you can choose what your heroes shall be, spies, gouvernors, generals etc..

All units in the game are quite different and it requires you to actually plan your army compositions.

Just everything is great.

Yeah I know all of the boards here require you to bash at least 50% of the game you're talking about to make your opinion seem genuine so I'll try to find a few flaws.

Flaw 1. In some rare cases, the initiative system may do some weird quirks in combat, but that's really rare and only apply to a certain unit IIRC.

Flaw 2. I dont think there will be more expansions because they are working on ES2, and next will be ES2 expansions and then maybe EL2.

Flaw 3.
>>
>>163763043
Flaw 3 would be that in multiplayer it will say that you and your buddies are out of sync mid game, but just dismiss the message. Also, sometimes when you enter a new Tech Era, you will get an error message, just click continue, both errors are wrong.

Just settle your first city in a place with a lot of money. Put a dust lord gouvernor there and just amass money.

Also, I advice to create a custom faction where you add Celulose Mutation to them which makes them the best Faction in game.

My favorite factions are Forgotten, Morgawr and Necrophages because they play so very differently.
>>
>>163763891
Also, remember to tech Language sqare and do quests all the time for huge amounts of dust.

Catspaw is a good trait to have aswell for getting some untis early game by the use of influence to kill of those quest mobs while letting your cities focus on the long term plan.

>Frustrating combat

Are you bad, or are you the most unlucky person in the world who may experience the initative bug once a day?

I find the combat to be really good with how to place yourself.

TIPS:

Change the stance on your units to hold position if you dont want them to jump around and put themselves into stupid positions.

You can hold down SHIFT to assign a move and attack order after each other for perfect placements in case of beam attacks etc..

Auto Resolve combat calculates sometimes really weird in fights you should have easly won.

Do manual combat for much better results in some cases.
I've also noticed a few cases where auto combat has given better results than I've could have dreamed of by doing manual.

If you have good relations with a pirate faction when the super pirates show up, there's a pretty good chance the gfriendly pirates will beg to join your empire. Not that this is a huge boost or anything, but just to point out there is at least one reason to buy off pirates.
I usually buy them off as early as possible , to get the cheapest protection rates, and then buy a secret or two off of them. don't bother buying info from them if they are too far away, they'll just tell you about some awesome ship graveyard or superweapon far beyond your range that NPCs are getting to harvest.
BTW said items are the biggest unbalanced facotr in the game. Some shitter podunk alien race spawns near a bunch of abandoned ships and get catapulted to a military superpower, and there's very little you can do about it, unless you are close enough to horn in on the scavenging.

>>
>drama about star ruler 2 in the thread
As someone who bought it a few days ago and has since logged ~10 hours playing it, allow me to throw in my 2 cents.

I don't think it's a 4x game. Really, I don't. The entire game is focused around one thing, building up a flagship with more supply in order to have a bigger fleet than the other guy. The tech tree is so awful that it seems almost pointless, and diplomacy might as well not even be there. The Senate is an interesting gimmick that ultimate does nothing. You could attempt to use it to peacefully annex systems, but if you piss off an AI stronger than you, then they'll just declare war and take them back anyways.

There are several types of FTL travel, but again, why bother when it's barely faster than non-ftl travel?

The planet resource system had genuine potential, but it's mostly untapped. Ditto for ringworlds, which are so annoying to make that you might as well just not bother.

I've got a lot of colony ships I want built in not a lot of time. Current administration doesn't really help matters, what with giving negatives to everything important to to growth of the empire. How bad would it be if he were to "step down" from their position?

Endless games are generally good recommendations.
You can get all of EL for $28 (base game + DLC's) or if you're willing to part with another $10 get ES1 and Dungeon of the Endless (not a 4x but a great game in its own right) in addition.
EL base game is $7-8 and ES plus its single DLC is $8.

Iit's not a bad reason to be honest, but it's more satisfying and costs less to murder them.
And you still get a chance for them to join you when you kick in a pirate base.

Other things you can get from applying lasers to pirate faces:
>Locations for indy colonies
>Locations for abandoned ships and bases
>A pile of money
>If the pirate gang is 'defeated' any mines, mining ships and constructors are left abandoned in space

And don't harsh on the shipwreck fields man.

All resources in DW are infinte.

>>163776349
Yes.
Population = Production = Victory. You want as much pop as you can squeeze onto your worlds.

As tempting as using the biggest and newest toys is, it is almost always more effective to use an older tech with added mods.
eg; Picking the battle scanner tech and combining it with any auto fire weapon means you become almost immune to missiles & fighters.

Missiles rule the early game, cheap disposable x2 launchers give you a decent punch for little investment.
While beams rule the late game with all the accuracy bonuses and power multipliers.

You can build colony ships if you select a colony and open the build pane at the bottom under the planet display, there you have buttons for the various ports, along with constructors and colony ships.

That leader is so confused.
Some minor money bonuses, but growth and happiness penalties. Not sure what happens if you bin him, I've never done that.
I'd imagine if you're running a 'voting' type government then you'd just trigger an new election.

Private sector needs resources.
Look in your expansion planner at the top, you'll see a list of all the resources in the game and how many sources of them you have etc.
Look for any res you don't have sources for and try to fill in the gaps.
THEN look in that same list for your empire 'unfulfiled' requests, and see if you can find any more of those res anywhere.
Once your planets get a steady stream of materials coming in, thier development will start to climb and thier growth rate will increase.

Sometimes resources just spawn in crap locations so you have to bus materials right accross your empire and end up with shortages and low development.

Because of how the resource system works, DotE gets much easier with each additional player.
>>
>>163782642
All resources are functionally unlimited. They never run out or diminish etc.

But if you're unlucky and/or RNGeesus hates you, you can get a random event that picks one of your colonies, then picks one of the resources on that colony and says "nope, you're having any more of that" and it disappears.
You still keep any stock you already mined, but you can't get any more b/c it's not there any more.

So no you're not tired, it's just DW being DW.

A colony is worth more than a resource.
The event is not common enough to worry about that much. It's just something to be aware of.

The event also works in reverse. A colony can 'find' a new resource it didn't have before.

>>
>>163784307
That sounds like a shortage.
Either you don't have a supply of helium, or it's in an awkward place your transports are having difficulty getting to.

If you don't have any helium mines, find a gas giant or nebula and start mining.

If you do have some mines already, just have a look and see how far away from your port it is.
And then compare that distance to the range of your transport designs.
You want 1 design to have enough range to reach that source, don't worry about the return trip they'll limp back just fine (for now).
If the range falls short upgrade the design with more fuel tanks and they should refit and start ferrying it over. (Fuel tanks don't need helium.)

I usually use the small transport and turn it into a courier - tiny cargo bay, but huge fuel tanks.
2 or 3 cargo bays.
As close to 10 fuel tanks as your size limit will allow.
With any warp drive that isn't the stupid bubble thing you should have enough range to reach your goal.

Why the fuck can't I make a national park here? All 4 tiles belong to the same city, all 4 are charming/breathtaking (the tile above marble which the game recommends is 'charming (2)' too, so having (2) value is not the issue), mountains can be a part of national parks (done it before the patch and says so in the civilopedia), and it's vertical diamond.

>What determines the speed at which ships are constructed?
Population covers the speed of 'large' builds which are built directly by the planet, like ports, supply ships, constructors and colony ships.
The more people, the faster the build.

All other ships are built by ports, and they a governed by your construction tech level.
You'll see along with the increases in the size cap, there is also an increase for construction speed. This is the only guaranteed way to speed up port construction.

The other way is having the 'Brakuras Shipyards' wonder, which gives you x3 build rate on that colony and any associated port.

Not really worried about Freya.

Jafar has Sorcery and there are some really annoying spells there. Like Time Stop and Suppress magic, he's also very close to me so he's a bit of a threat.

Raven is alone on Myrror afaik, Theurgist objective means he's more likely to go for Spell of Mastery.
Currently scouting with 2 guardian spirits, they're both buffed with Endurance.

Guardian spirits are non corporeal so they only spend half a movement to move, and endurance gives them an extra move.
I think I'll planeshift them over to myrror to do scouting.

There's still a neutral orc city on ariels continent.
Interested in grabbing it and colonizing spots with lower pop potential with orcs.
Also interested in getting Dark Elves or other Myrran races in my empire. I'd stop expanding with high elves if I got my hands on them.
Unrest won't be a problem even with dark elves since I enchant my cities with Stream of Life which removes all unrest in the city.

After my war college is done in my cap I'll produce elven lords from it, when they're done I'll probably planeshift them over to Myrror to war with Raven.

Master of Magic: The Official Strategy Guide Paperback
Paperback: 480 pages
Publisher: Prima Games (March 22 1995)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1559587229
ISBN-13: 978-1559587228
Product Dimensions: 3.2 x 18.4 x 23.5 cm

I actually have this thing somewhere, goes into a lot of detail about the mechanics but still surprised there's 480 pages worth of material to talk about some early 90's strategy game.

You can set it to random spawn instead of clustered spawn.

>but still surprised there's 480 pages worth of material to talk about some early 90's strategy game
Lords of Magic has a guide that's around 250 pages. I guess back in the 90s they just thought people were willing to do lots of reading for games like these. Or maybe it's just a trait of fantasy nerds.
>>
is Civ 6 good yet?

no
>>
>>163816862
There is something to be said about the effort. Cause the guide that comes with Lords of Magic is actually included with the physical copy of the game, you don't have to buy it separately. They give it to you for free. And it even has illustrations and handy charts showing stats for various units for easy comparison. You don't see that kind of craftsmanship anymore.

>Human Threat:
>Military Build Up
>Every turn, each computer player separately rolls a d20. If she rolls a 1, she compares the size of her military to yours. If your total army strength is double hers, you instantly take a -10 DP hit tin your relations with her. If your forces are equal, there is a 50 percent chance of suffering this -10 DP penalty. When you have half her strength, there is only a 25 percent chance of this same negative reaction, etc.
>Thus the percentage chance of suffering this penalty with a particular wizard is based on a sliding scale depending on the strength ratio of your two armed forces. Note that you can easily compare gross military strengths by consulting your astrolager's Army Strength bar graph. (The value of each bar is the sum of the total gold upkeep for all of a player's normal units, plus double the mana upkeep cost of for all their units.)
>
>The Human Threat: A Large Empire
>Every turn, computer players share a d4 roll. If they roll a one, their mutual paranoia is checked against the size of your empire. (They want to see if you're becoming too powerful.) This is done by consulting Table 25.6.
Kinda neat to read.

It's pointless having any kind of detailed manual in paper form today because patches and rebalancing will make it all useless after a while, just like a lexicon compared to Wikis.

I do love my old manuals for the first Age of Wonders, Age of Empires, Diablo 2 etc... but I have to admit, having an always up to date pdf or wiki where I can search is just better.

Hopefully thay DLC introduce unique abilites/traits thay give us something game changing.

Introduce 10 traits of which you can only choose one for your race.
These traits has to be really game changing. Just like the faction unique traits in ES2, EL, SotS, SoaSE. Give us a trait that lets us take control over pirates and aliens with influence, but on the flipside deny you something else.

The game makes me feel like I'm playing the same way all the time, PLUS the midgame is empty and boring. Give us more quests that are fun. Make us do fun things between the start and the moment you go to war.

Dreadnoughts have their end game unit among city units, so it'll be more of a threat for you to face a large dreadnought player, rather than a large druid or mage since their higher end units are limited by their main heroes casting.

That's because the story is usually shit in video games. I remember playing Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube, it was a real piece of work. Everything was like
>GO HERE, QUICKLY
>YOU MUST SAVE THE WORLD, HURRY UP
>RUN RUN RUN
>oh hey by the way, you missed a gazillion secret side quests hahaha ;)

People always grow increasingly cynical because video games that are meant for you to immerse are rare, and it's extremely difficult to realize. Even in RPG, that are supposed to be all about role-playing, you're too often spectator to someone's adventure.
Supreme Commander is the only game I can think of that could support a nice story, given how things work there. Enemies soldiers having a chat over the radio in games like Advance Wars or Red Alert is just too silly.

There are two parellel planes. Some wizards may start on the special Myrror plane with more powerful races.

Towers of Wizardry are scattered around the map and function as permanent gates between the planes. They're guarded by neutral monsters in the beginning.

There are a bunch of spells in the Life spell school that affects plane movement.

Planeshift spell, sends the stack to the other plane. If you send non swimmers over to the other planes ocean they drown.

Planar Travel is a buff that lets that unit planeshift at will. With enough life books you can craft items with Planar Travel.

Astral Gate is a town enchantment that creates a portal to the other plane in that town.

Planar Seal stops movement between the planes.

Shadow Demons have innate planar travel as well, they're a summon from the Death spell school.

Recall Hero, an arcane(ironically means that everyone can have it) spell and Word of Recall(from Sorcery school) returns the unit to your Summoning Circle.
IIRC calling things to your summoning circle is unaffected by Planar Seal so you can move your summoning circle to the other realm, and then use word of recall on your armies if you're a Sorcerer.

Good job!
Now all you need to do is hurry and claim those 2 independant worlds in F6 before they grow enough to spawn into a new empire or get nabbed by someone else. They're too close to risk being 'foriegn' for my tastes anyways.

(You can drop troops on an indy world inside someone else's territory and steal a ton of space.)

Is AoE II 4X? Should I buy all the expansions?
>>
>>163827081
aoe 2 is not 4x at all, its about the most traditional rts you can get, and yes, the expansions are good. My opinion of it over the non-steam non-hd version has skyrocketed since they fixed pretty much all the lag issues last patch, its as smooth as butter now.
>>
>>163827159
I'm going to buy it then but how is it not 4x?

The game consists of nothing but exploration, expansion, exploitation and extermination
>>
>>163827256
You could also say a shooter is an rts because its real time strategy, or that a 'moba' (multiplayer online battle arena) could be call of duty...but it isn't categorized as that by anyone. If you say it like that, yea, it is a 4x, but that happens when you boil anything down to its most obvious parts. 4x games are pretty much always at a massive scale. AOE is not massive scale by any stretch, you just have a few hundred units tops, compared to something like sins of a solar empire or stellaris.
>>
>>163827256
>The game consists of nothing but exploration, expansion, exploitation and extermination
Sure. Terraria and Warcraft 2 have those as well. They're 4xes as well now.

Baldurs Gate and Europa Universalis 4 are both real time and you use strategy, so they're RTSes.
>>
>>163827565
Baldur's Gate II is the worst racing game I have ever played

First off, the acceleration is clunky and unrealistic. When you hold down the mouse/accelerate button to reach the maximum speed, this speed is actually reached within the very first second of acceleration. And then when you stop holding down the mouse/accelerate button, you come to an almost instantaneous stop. This game is probably the first racing game that I've seen that lacks simple graded acceleration/deceleration physics.

In addition to that, and if that wasn't bad enough, no matter which character/vehicle you use, the speeds are identical across the board. Now, this might have been acceptable in some older games, but racing games these days make use of different vehicles with varying strengths and weaknesses. This adds a bit of depth to the game and forces you to adapt to different tracks based on the vehicle that you're using. Not so in Baldur's Gate. Here, every character/vehicle is identical to the other and choosing one comes down to merely an aesthetic preference.

The game is also an example of how innovation can go bad. The track design, while undeniably innovative, is also the worst that I've seen in any game. The tracks are riddled with really annoying shit tacked on for the sake of being the first game to implement the gimmick. Case in point: track obstacles that range from obtrusive foliage and buildings, to annoying NPC magicians (yes, fucking magicians) that throw shit at you in order to distract you. The tracks are also convoluted to the point of being more like mazes than anything else, and the twists and turns of the tracks can sometimes be so abrupt as to come to a fucking 90 degree angle.

I haven't played the first one, but if Baldur's Gate II is any indication, this is one racing series to stay the fuck away from.

You did just forcibly conquer them it's to be expected, the malus goes away after a while though and if your empire isn't shit then they'll integrate eventually. Or you could just purge them.

The alternative is to liberate instead of annex then integrate as a vassal.

Right above, where the naturalist is standing as the top hex. I don't want to waste marble and I want to be using the mountain tile for something useful. I don't understand why it won't let me build there while one tile below is available. The spot where the naturalist stands fits all the criteria.

Do I really need the 28 euro bundle pack if I'm buying endless legend on steam? Without the 75% discount and the 15% bundle discount the total would come to something like 80-90E, which seems really excessive.

I actually kind of want to buy a paper copy of the Dominions 4 manual, even if I don't really need it.
I have PDFs of all official manuals and companions for the pre-Morrowind TES games as well, and I kind of want to get a physical copy of The Daggerfall Companion.

PDFs are handy and all, but there's something nice about having paper copies.
I'd be drowning in GURPS books if they hadn't been so expensive.

MOO:2016 or the very first MOO?
The 2016 one looks real pretty and nice (and i'm a sucker for cartoon style + nice voice acting), but many lads criticize it for not being MOO2 AND being Civ 5 with less stuff and a aprettier skin.
I guess the choice now is: which MOO? And is MOO2 still played (as in, diehard fans like Heroes of Might and Magic 3 still play it after two decades) or is organizing a multiplayer game impossible because of lack of people?
>>
>>163848638

>>
>>163848805
For MOO:2016 is apparently very shallow and you need a wargaming.net account to be able to play multiplayer. Also the steam version has DRM for multiplayer.

>>163848953
Alright, i guess MOO2 it is then, are you talking about MOO2 when you say Steam has DRM multiplayer?
Thanks for the answers and patience man, just two last autistic questions (always about MOO2)
1) As i asked before, can i cover the entire galaxy map in my factions colors like i see in Stellaris in MOO2? (as in, you zoom out/have a minimap and see your cloro-blob cover ALL THE UNIVERSE)
2) There'll be indeed a "time/turn" victory. Is it possible to keep playing (the "one more turn" button of civs games) after either you or the AI win a victory condition and fuck around? Or does the game force you out once you win/lose?

Probably High Elf. Getting Adamantium weapons and armor for Longbowben, Pegasai and Longbowmen is more valueable then some adamantium armor for dark elves.

This is standard operating procedure for Paradox.... Infact I am quite disappointed there are No Casus Belium's!!! The fact we can just declare war without any kind of claim just because we want too is well NOT Paradox like!!!

Sorry you can't instantly paint the map i do not feel for you in the least bit....

And you overkilled all you have to do is occupy the planets in your demand for 100% warscore if you occupied 25 planets you totally waisted your time!!!

What you need to get out of your head is Paradox games are not ment to be finished in a few days or even a few weeks.... Paradox Grand Strategy games are a Month or multiple month experiences!

And war is not suppose to be the only trick in the game....
>>
>>163890471

The only game I ever won was as a fanatic individualist militarist empire. I straight up ignored everything that didn't contribute to fleet production and ceded all empires the moment I met them. Eventually it caused a defensive pact cascade due to mutual thread being me. It worked in my favor because every time I half ceded someone, they allied with someone I haven't ceded yet, meaning I could immediately resume ceding planets because I just declared war on their new ally and by proxy on them during truce.

I was stuffing every single system including freshly invaded primitives into a single 75% taxed sector. Factions were a non-issue since everyone was at 50+ happiness due to fanatic individualism + social welfare.

This kept going until I had nearly entire galaxy and a FE woke up, the few remaining tiny empires had -900 threat status from me and I doubt the FE even had contact with them. Naturally they declared war on me and politely asked me to cede quarter the galaxy in war demands, I ceded all their planets them with sheer ship quantity and shitty tech since I had about 2000% research cost increase. After scavenging their debris I had top tech and took out the other FE and colonized a few planets to trigger % habitable victory.

Entire galaxy united under democratic rule, happily migrating all over the place without any oversight. Near the end it took over a second for a day to pass, it was a terrible experience and I do not recommend trying to achieve victory for any other reason than relief that comes from ending it.

Then I read in patchnotes that AI was bugged and couldn't invade planets. :^)
>>
>>163892645
Forgot to add, I spent maybe an hour of raw time clicking +100 minerals in sector management over the course of the game because you can't specify separate mineral/energy tax rates. I fucking love good game design decisions.
>>
>>163892645
>politely asked me to cede quarter the galaxy in war demands
why are they allowed to cede so much in a war, whereas I can maybe cede 3-4 planets then have to wait 10 years to go again.
>>
>>163892858
They were going to have seperate sliders going from 0-75%, but sliders trigger wiz immensely, so he made them scrap them.
This was before he was even lead designer for the game, but he still managed to get people to scrap it.
>>
>>163893117
Because planet warscore cost scales with empire size. I'm pretty sure a tiny backwater moon nation could ask you to cede half the galaxy in a defensive war.

>>163893171
I always felt there was some invisible hand of massive unhinged retardation limiting the game potential. What does wiz stand for?

Reminds me of Marek in space engineers, him stepping down gave rise to massive improvements. He's the kind of guy that forbids changing a glass texture because he once bumped into glass during his annual playtest.

My navy currently consists of these ships.

Previous iterations followed the same philosophy, except shooting at bads with yellow and blue stuff instead of green. I assume there's another color later.

Every spaceport in my empire is set up with destroyer shipyards, and if someone starts some shit I just go around all my spaceports and shit out as many of these as I can in parallel, and then doomstack them together.

They seem okay at killing enemy fleets, even fleets with marginally higher military power comprised of battleships of cruisers, while taking comparatively few losses.

Is this just because the AI is retarded or are these ships good?

Well, fuck. She surrendered.
I thought Galactic Battlegrounds fixed that, turns out they didn't.

Anyway, the trade federation sucks.
Sure, you don't need to build huts to raise your population limit, but you can't heal your units normally. There are no medics. Either you repair them (which costs ressources), or you garrison them (which costs time). It makes sith knights a bit less useful, since you need to fight with one while the others are healing.
And mounted units can't get garrisoned.

I don't know if an ally who make medic can heal your units. I doubt they can. Compared to the Trade Federation, the Gungans have so many organic units that medics are a lot more useful.

Battlegrounds is a game I never really got into.
The building bit is fine, and honestly somewhat enjoyable.
But I found the combat to be tedious as hell, especially when involving buildings. Even with the designated 'anti-building' units.
And it always bugged me that the "aircraft" just hover in place.

It felt like someone had just dressed another game up with star wars stuff, and not given a single shit about how it played as opposed to how much it payed.
At least they didn't make Jedi instant win sues.

I'll sure miss threads being derailed because imbecilic teens can't control themselves at the sight of a statistically irrelevant occurrence.

Fret not though, there are many other ritualistic tribalism traditions to invent and dogmatically follow regardless of effect on rational discourse it might have inside a thread.

It's common to all Star Wars games. If you play Empire at War, all battles are just units standing and shooting each others.
Galactic Battlegrounds tries to avoid that by adding mounted units and Jedis, but most of the fights are about ranged units shooting each others. And unlike in Age of Empire where the basic unit is anti-building, the basic unit in Galactic Battleground will deal piss damage to buildings. It doesn't help that most melee units are big, you can't have a lot of them attacking a building.

When you get really far into Aurora, yes it can become bogged down taking a little while per tick.

Also it was written in... VB6? I think? This teamed with the use of an access database means it is a lot slower than the upcoming (SoonTM) C# version. Hopefully they are using SQLite, mongo or similar fast local database.

Its talked about here because it's the only recently released space 4x, and also the only space 4x that's really "alive".
And also some people just like the game. I personally burned out on it a long time ago, but I get the appeal.
Stellaris offers the potential for an experience that people were hoping Spore was, unfortunately for it to be a decent 4x as a whole its got a long fucking way to go.

For what it offers Stellaris is waaaaay overpriced, but maybe it can be good in the future.
EL is definitely worth the buy though, Amplitude's setting is fantastic.

t. someone who put 100+ hours in Stellaris on launch then never touched it again.
