I have yet to play WitE, but I'm less interested in the land warfare (prefer naval and air) and even less interested in the eastern theater.

I did get WitW, but it's not very popular and harder to find an opponent for. Plus the turns are each an in-game week when run. I prefer day-long turns.

I have't played it yet, but I've heard good things about Matrix's Strategic Command. It stays high level while retaining a good amount of depth. You won't get lost in the details of day-to-day combat.

As a game that combined a good amount of high-level strategic depth and interesting tactical gameplay, I believe War in thee Pacific is the best. It has land, air, and sea warfare with extensive detail. Although the land combat isn't quite as in-depth as in War in the East, it remains interesting, but the game truly shines through naval and air combat. As Japan, you have the ability especially to make meaningful decisions as to your production and aircraft R&D.

I would recommend a game as the allies against the AI or a human opponent first before trying to take on the far-more-complex Japanese side. WitP is the most versatile of the series.

I wasn't able to do any AARs this holiday, as I was afraid of, but I did have a kind anon help me to mock up this event chain, which I hope to use for a future (although not the next) AAR. Forgive the meme text; since only uncivs see this I don't really care.

It allows communist powers to civilize and Marxify their uncivilized puppets for 100,000 per unciv and a flat loss of intellectuals, to represent the transmission of intellectuals from the motherland to the uncivs. When they civilize they gain basic techs in line with Marxian thought, and their tech group switches to Avantgarde Intelligentsia, to represent that the intellectuals from the home country are now effectively running the nation. The first event (the one which costs the home nation its money and intellectuals) fires following the home country taking a decision, then with an MTTH of 2 years, the second event that actually civilizes the unciv and makes them a Proletarian Dicatorship fires.

There are still a few things I want to add down the line, including a proper decision name, decision text, and a chance for AI nations to take the decision under certain specific circumstances. I also want to add one more element where the unciv gains about 5% literacy from the initial event, and I still need to poke around and add checks to remove various civilizing modifiers (like Western Winds or whatever the fuck it's called), but I felt like it's still a good time to show it off. That does mean that the AAR following the upcoming DH/HoI3 AAR will be a gommunist international Vic2 AAR, although I haven't decided anything as regards country yet.

It might be, I'll pull it down if I think it's overkill, but I don't really think so at this point. If you have 1,000,000 intellectuals (which is a ridiculous amount) you're only losing 20,000 of them per unciv. That's a lot, I grant, but it's not easy to establish a new communist regime in a shithole either, I'd say. I think it's a fair amount for the transition and for establishing themselves as the new ruling elite of the nation.

In this AAR I'll be playing as a Communist power which holds the view that owning colonies is inherently imperialist and releases them as soon as it comes to power. That's really what this decision is for, to take the uncivs and begin the industrialization process in them as quickly as possible.

Mussolini in this never had the great falling out with orthodox socialism, and instead stayed an adherent of National Syndicalism which for all intents and purposes replaces Fascism in Kaiserreich's world. The main National-Syndicalists are Mussolini in Italy, Maurras in the Commune of France, and Valois in National France (Valois being right wing in KR's universe and closer to National Socialism/Fascism, unless I've mistaken him with someone else).

The other contemporary Fascists are still right wing, in KR's universe it's mostly centred around Brazil and Russia. The United States could be arguably added under MacArthur, but that's more his hate of Socialists and not necessarily Fascism.

Take everything above with a grain of salt, the KR Dev Team will hand wave anything for the sake of the over all story/theme.

How do you play National France, Canada or Australia/NZ?
The idea of the Entente is appealing but mechanically using any of them to invade Europe seems borderline impossible given their comparably tiny IC and starting forces. I guess it would work it the conflict between France and Germany was protracted but I don't think I've ever seen it last less than a year.

I remember I tried a Canada one way back and when I thought I could take back the isles they had 12 divisions sitting on each beach and utterly rekt me.
