Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Another attempt to get more people to come to the general when they accidentally click this weeb image instead of the dozen other ones on /vg/, only for them to scurry away when they realize that you require a very specific brand of autism to play dominions?

The thing is that it's a shitty weeb image rather than one that's either compelling or remotely related to Dominions.

I'd be okay with something that was, like, a Tlahuelpuchi summoning a Kitsune and then using a dog-girl + cat-girl image for that, but you have to at least tie it into the game somehow.

>>

What if I hosted a game with a very special mod that reduces the Dominion in Ermor's capital by 10 at the start of the turn.
>>
>>163630545
You better use a mod that gives all indie provinces to Ermor on turn 2.
>>
>>163630545

My way's better because it lets a would-be skeleton player that wasn't paying attention get their hopes up, only to have them dashed when they receive the turn
>>
>>163630898
That would waste 48 hours of our time because we'll have to wait for Ermor's first turn.
>>
>>163630898
What if it was innovative scales Ermor?
>>

>Find a faction that I actually like in a game that I'm learning to see that it is universally scorned and hated.
>>
>>163631076
I think most people like ermor as long as they dont have to fight them.
>>
>>163631076
I sorta like Ermor, I just dislike how it makes the game revolve around it until it's dead or someone else has snowballed into the win.
>>
>>163631167
Basically just one or two of Ermor's neighbors need to not suck complete ass at the game and it won't be a problem.

This is why Ermor can sometimes be a problem in domg games.
>>
>>163630792
Or just play summod. That's close enough to banning Ermor desu.
>>
>>163631395
Summod Ermor is fine, it just tends to receive attention as though it were still OP and gets destroyed by all of its neighbors when its power level isn't high enough for it to actually win that kind of war.
>>
>>163631340
>not sucking ass
>removing Ermor instead of eating a delicious full scales neighbour
Pick one.
>>
>>163632024
I meant in terms of understanding game mechanics well enough that 2000 skeletons aren't actually a concern, tactically.

Pangaea, from the other side of the map, decided to attack me just when I'd taken out Agartha's main force, leading to third parties picking off Agartha's territory while we stood in a standoff.

As extending into one another's territory would have been costly, my plan A was to wait for him to come to his senses and fuck off. Plan B was to wreck his stack and hope his neighbors would activate and take care of the rest.

Then I said "fuck it" and went balls deep. Now we finally had a decisive battle, on top of his cap.

I need some advice /domg/. How do you fight skeletons when they had a long time to build up? No one attacked them for like 3 years in a 7 player ffa and by the time 2 of em got around to it they were stupid strong.

What do you normally do?
>>
>>163742590
IT

DEPENDS

On what magic paths and troops you have available.
>>
>>163742934
MA Abysia?
>>
>>163742590
Skeletons? I assume you mean MA Ermor.

The first step is going to be getting a bunch of bags of wine so your armies don't starve invading them.

After that you need a way to clear large numbers of chaff. Which is easiest to deploy will depend on your nation.

Finally, you need a way to deal with triblessed lictors and sepulchral knights (assuming he did take a tribless). That will again depend on nation, and is usually harder.

>>163742938
Firestorm for chaff, fire elementals for elites (also works against chaff, but firestorm is more efficient). Trade for bags of wine if you don't have N indies or N gems, allies should be happy to help you with that.

Arch Devil SCs may be worth using to prevent ermor from getting skeletons all over your lands (if you have them available).

If you're desperate and have lots of blood slaves, astral corruption may be an acceptable way to prevent ermor from summoning any more mages/lictors (unless he already has a bunch of archbishops, which he may). Make sure your allies are alright with you casting it before doing so, and be aware you may need to suicide the caster after ermor is gone if you don't want to get ganked.
>>
>>163743152
When playing MA Abysia do you normally go for evo or blood magic first? I've been pumping research into blood magic asap so I can shit out lesser horrors wherever I need (and eventually full grown ones), doing evocations after but i'm not sure this is the most efficient usage.

I"m still new to the game

Quite the innovative strategy there, dwarves

If your front line hadn't been obliterated in seconds by those juggernauts, it might actually have worked.

Yeah, fuck me, right?

I still killed three juggernauts, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. I mean, there's like twenty more, but I'm not going down without a fight. When Khorne drowns the world in blood and demons, nobody is going to be able to say that the dwarves stood by and did nothing.

Yeah, about the actual buff: it costs 40 gems now, so it's possible to cast pretty early (not as early as Mother Oak, but pretty close), and get an advantage when you still don't have enough forts for your cool units (like einheres or Ulm troops, for example). And it's not like it's hurting anyone, so almost no incentive to dispel it.

Also, buffed Mechanical Militia is pretty great now too. Illfraud thought that 6 mechanical soldiers per province needs Const 9. Such power. I wonder if they even play their own game. Const 7 is okay (you want to get golems most of the time anyway), and 60 gems is ehh still pretty high, but I can live with it. The simple fact that mechanical dudes resist all elements and have 18 protection can make you immune to most standard raiding techniques like using brands, for example. And they never rout, so the thug can become tired and die too.

>>
>>163779127
Whups. Disregard this post I thought you were saying to remove them from the selection altogether.
>>
>>163779127
Yeah, I'm not particularly flustered about it, just wanted to see if my meme strat would be effective against that shit.

As such, I can explain it. So, Dwarves get these 20g foreignrecruit dudes that have mapmove 4, stealth, and full survival, as well as 2 reinvigoration and good stats. They also have big smith dudes from their cap with a +2 forging bonus, and a few decent national items.

One of those national items is a 5 gem crossbow that inflicts like 14 ap damage, and has a secondary effect which inflicts 25 an fire damage and ignites. My plan was to churn out fucktons of these crossbows and give them to the 20g dudes that are being mass-produced, in order to kill the horrifying Juggernauts, which are otherwise nigh-immortal, have high MR, berserk, and plough through everything in melee. I was also forging Eyes of Aiming for 1 air gem, to increase the number of these shots that landed.

I am adamant that it would have worked, if only I had something that would be able to hold my front line for longer than a single turn - Not even my Ironbreakers, 15 HP dudes with 22 prot and shields, backed up by Runebearers who had been given a 1S item that cast healing light once a turn could stand. Juggernauts just do too much damage. I don't think anybody could realistically beat Khorne at this point, he's eaten Tzeentch's domain entirely, Altdorf has run out of fuel to fight him, I'm gonna last as long as I can but unless literally every one of his neighbors attacks at once, he can't lose.

His entire strategy is 'Gather up the doggos and let loose, fuck magic, fuck scripting' because the Juggernauts are just that strong. You don't need to use any tactical acumen.
>>
>>163780438
How big are juggernauts? Because if they are less than size 5 hellpit abominations will just swallow them.

>>
>>163782379
oh. Well I guess maybe this wouldn't be quite so horrific with neutral temp.
>>
>>163780438
I know that this isn't a strong suit for dwarves, but the best answer to things that hit hard enough to kill elites isn't tough line holders, but just more squares of lineholders. Skellyspam, swam, and just the cheapest bodies that you can push in front of them
>>
>>163781792
>Kill everything in one turn
Aren't their claws just regular attacks? That means an ethereal or similarly buffed unit could rope a dope them just fine. Berserker might even be a disadvantage in that situation because they're sacrificing defense for a few points of extra damage on things they'll already maul.
>>

>>
>>163784135

>>
>>163784341
If there is he is not I and I wish them well. The whole thing is a pure mess.
>>
>>163784341
They absolutely can be fixed and there are several of us here that know enough of the modding (which is *very* simple, by the way. Like, "#att 12" to mark a unit has having 12 attack) to do so.

It's more of just any of us wanting to do it. Modders make things that are interesting and cool to them, and balancing some other dude's mod rarely is that. Also, you have to be good at balance to begin with.
>>
>>163782831
IIRC it's like four 22 damage AP attacks with some bullshit tribless. Six 26 damage AP attacks on a 75HP 10% regen unit. Even an ethereal thug is going to get fucked before it can kill the murderdoggo, and even if does kill the murderdoggo, there are two dozen more waiting to fuck the thug to death.
>>
>>163784294

>>
>>163784341
I could take a look at it if I get a chance over the weekend, though from what I have heard it's less a stat issue and more that Khorne is broken bad without them and broken good with them, with little middle ground, because of their absurd laser focus.

You get juggernaughts/flesh beasts out of expansion, like turn 10, 11. War Dogs upgrade real fast. I was going at him turn 6, by the time I reached him (turn 9?), he had 2 juggs. Then that was game, basically. Plus, chaos harpies with his bless could defeat my stuff on their own.

>>163782831

They get 4 magical claw attacks per jugg, and they have the str and attack of a chayot. Not to mention also all the other stats of a chayot.

>>163784341

There was some talk of sum1 and lambo making a combined .dm that doesn't suck, but the other answer is simply run games with no chaos and no skaven. There are some stupid bits of the other nations but nothing quite as horribly imbalanced as those ones.

>>163834231
Yeah, if you want to play MP here you'll likely need at least summod and Worthy Heroes NN. Basically all of our games use them nowadays.
https://github.com/sum1won/summod/releases
https://www.dropbox.com/s/l16r7ashk0aewvy/Worthy_Heroes_v5.5NN.zip?dl=0

The NN stands for "No Nerfs" - there's another version that isn't that one, but eh. If you need it a game will link it.

Summod changes a lot of stuff and is an overhaul mod, Worthy Heroes buffs national heroes to be less garbage, and nerfs a couple (unless you have NN).
>>
>>163834231
Mods can be downloaded from particular game pages on llamaserver (http://www.llamaserver.net/pretAdmin.cgi?game=StandardEA for example) or on dom3mods (http://z7.invisionfree.com/Dom3mods/index.php?act=idx). Generally, you should care about them only when you join games that use them, but there are some that are used more widely than others.

Worthy Heroes just adds more heroes to all nations, and it's pretty minor, so everyone uses it because it just give the game a little flavor.

Summod is a balance overhaul that buffs nations that are beyond saving in vanilla (based on statistical data collected from completed games).

There's also Magic Enhanced that adds a lot more spells and summons (and totally ruins the balance), so it could be great for SP games.

since it's over I"ll do a short write up

First of all I joined this game on an impulse, probable not the best mindset. I wanted to try agartha LA and this was my chance to do so. Expansion went smoothly even if it a feel a bit short because of relience on basic crossbow strats. Early on I met Jomon, mictlan, abysia, and Lemuria. I had an unsteady ceasefire with lemuria after stealing a few provinces because I didn't feel like sieging his junk at the time, instead wheeling back to take most of abysia after Ulm successful crushed the army sieging his cap and unrest generating all his forts. After saving Ulm he was basically a vassal state but I suspect he was selling goods to lemuria since I never gave him the word to attack atlantis and get out of his capital. I resumed war with lemuria after he squashed jomon and Mictlan easily but I never gave a serious push because I thought I could leave the crushing to marg and atlantis and I mearly had to maintain a quartine force. Sadly I was mistaken in this regard and Lemuria had the time he needed to research all the spells he needed and take the thrones from me after I went for my sneaky throne push and nab the victory.

I was happy with my pretender since he was my way into late game options which agartha lacks. My only regret was not being aggressive enough when Atlantis and Marg. weren't able to do the damage I thought they would do. Lemuria earned his victory through and through. Also whoever was selling him lifelong protection contracts is a real asshole.
>>
So, if my cap is on land and I capture a close underwater province, the cap won't receive the resources of the UW province? Because my resources/turn didn't increase.

Okay, so some comments -

Summod Lemuria is totally playable, mostly thanks to the fact that Lemur Acolytes are good now. Guaranteed D2 or D1S1 means that every one of them will be useful.

I played Lemuria aggressively, and responded to everyone that attacked me by just continuously slamming waves of ghosts at every province along our border and dodging past their armies whenever possible to take their juicy provinces. I used D2 acolytes with a handful of sneaky ghosts as stealth raiders as well wherever I had to get past chokepoints.

This caused a whole lot more attrition than the actual damage to armies, and by continuously attacking more provinces than were being attacked, I was able to grow even when fighting heavily outgunned. At the same time, I also did the standard Lemuria thing of hitting any larger enemy balls with Winds of Death cast by the big immortal mages to punish any large blobs. I was able to handle deathballs this way or (in two cases) by using the majority of my research corps to take on an army that came close to my home.

I don't think I did anything unusual wrt to research. I rushed thaum 1 for frighten so that I could actually use mages immediately if necessary, then went ench for revenants (still more efficient per gem for research), then all the way down to Evo 7. I think that Winds of Death is essential to get early, since it's a great answer to "I can't beat that army" and that's a problem that Lemuria faces all the time. Basically any decent midgame strat will beat what Lemuria can cast at that same time, but WoD means that you don't need to beat it to cause damage to the dude you're fighting.

Lemuria's lategame seems nice. I felt the need to secure thrones to deny Agartha the win, and in doing so found myself within striking range of a win myself, so I ended before the real end-game stuff came online. That said, there's a lot of obviously strong stuff aside from tarts, like wide access to Stygian Paths to jump armies onto thrones.

>>163855474
>>163855639
Sorry, let me correct myself.
There are many complaints that Summod "destroys" factions, maybe it is satire and I'm too autistic to understand.

My actual question is what does Summod take into consideration when balancing factions? do they ever grant new national units or spells to factions considered underpowered to help them deal with other factions? or do they just fling numbers around and hope for the best?
>>
>>163856083
the only two nations I can think of that are really "hurt" by sum1mod is MA ermor and LA ragha and only because you simply can't spam Tri-bless sacreds to dominate early and mid game as easily as one once did before. It also does add some light flavour to nations lacking in it without going too crazy

>>
Does anyone know where Ermors cap actually is?
>>
>>163856234
Summod also nerfs EA Xibalba. Now instead of being the strongest nation of any age to a degree that the gulf between them and second is larger than second and last, they're merely the strongest nation of any age.

Outside the occasional super divine princes, 10000 gold generating magisters, or game shattering devatas that appear from time to time.
>>
>>163856083
I don't think those complaints are founded. Yes, a few nations are nerfed (xib, ermor, ragha) and it """destroys""" them, but only if you viewed those nation's concept as being "game-distortingly overpowered", and now they are less that (although still plenty good).

On the overall, Sum1 attempts to make makes fairly conservative buffs to factions to improve their power level and retain their theme and flavor. He also buffs poor items (while nerfing a few that are simply too good) to make them more of options and not outright garbage.
He sources a fair amount of thought from the community, as well as using a record (you can see it in the OP) of nations win/loss/play rates to get an extra idea of nation performance.

I believe his idea of balance is something along the lines of making it so things aren't discarded just out of hand; at least make most things worth thinking about some of the time. He favors buffs over nerfs, which I think is a great idea.

The easiest thing to do is read the changelog yourself @ https://github.com/sum1won/summod

Ayo, how do I use astral magic? I mean, what is good about it? Do I just spam luck buffs and debuffs? Fire was much more straightforward
>>
>>163860441
Astral is well regarded by the community as the worst path, and most likely a liability.

The only spell that is good in it is Astral Geyser, which makes the mage challenge a different astral mage, and whichever one has the higher astral magic, wins and instantly kills the others. Don't have astral, don't play nations with astral unless their mages have 7+ in it.
>>
>>163862294
Don't be hating on Astral Geyser, that AN damage is kinda rad
>>
>>163862415
It just does 400 fatigue damage?
>>
>>163862294
false in all regards. Antimagic, Will of fates, Steller cascades are all spells that can easily swail a battle in your favour
>>
>>163862294
Clearly you have never been on the receiving end of a stellar cascade spam.
>>
>>163860441
Well, the cornerstone of Astral tends to be Communion Master/Slave that allow mages to join together to cast more powerful spells (masters gain one additional path for each power of two of communion slaves: E2S1 with 2 communion slaves would become E3S2 or E4S3 with 4 slaves for example). Alternatively, if you are only casting astral spells, it might be more effective to put up Light of the Northern Star. Besides stuff that communions can do, the primary astral-only combat spells tend to be Stellar Cascades (good against elite units due to fatigue damage being unresistable) and Astral Geysir (good against low HP/MR chaff). Body Ethereal might also be worth casting on strong sacreds or other elite units. Mind Hunt is a noteworthy astral ritual and Soul Slay can be used on the battlefield as well as a thug/SC counter.

>>
Are dominion spam strategies viable?
>>
>>163863968

To kill with domspam you need to either have blood sacrifice, or stealthy heretics. Or a super oblivious opponent.

Most people will dompush to spread beneficial/harmful dominion. If you are planning to go for Wrath of God or similar enchantments, pushing dom can be very beneficial as well. Nations that use a lot of weather can also push it. And of course nations like Ctis and Ermor push dominion to fuck with their enemies.
>>
>>163864446
can't I just start shitting up temples and priest to weaken or outright enemies by natural spread? Something akin playing it defensively

or there's a soft cap to how damage you can do to an enemy (that knows how to play)

>>163863734
It's worth noting that Stellar Cascades and Astral Geysir need to be deployed en masse to fully see the effects (although they're not worthless in small quantities). For starters, Stellar Cascades doesn't start doing damage until enemy units reach 200 fatigue but even though it's fatigue damage only, it can really kill stuff even on its own because it's unresistable and has decent AoE.

Luckily communions and/or Light of Northern Star (which is better depends) allow you to field lots of cheap S1 mages and make them useful.
>>
>>163864706

You can, but enemies can counter by putting up their own temples. It quickly becomes a zero sum game unless he is much smaller than you, and you have more provinces to temple. Unless they are running incredibly low domstrength and you are running strong, if you notice that your neighbours spread is minimal, putting up some temples can kill him.

But aside from that, blood sacrifice is the only "reliable" way to domkill someone, as it gives you that extra push you need. It's fully possible without it, but it can be slow and with some poor luck, not reliable enough.

That being said, it can be a very good tactic to finish off an enemy in his capital by sieging him, throwing up temples nearby and then sending a load of priests/inquisitors to pray the gay away.
>>
>>163857483
Play aggressively. You have tons of ghosts, and you can use them to hold your forts up indefinitely, but you can also use them in blocks of 80 led by your tribunes to hit every province on your border. If you take the province, keep going deeper into their territory. 80 spooks is enough that your opponent will need a significant number of dudes and/or mages to beat them, but for you it's nearly free. Try to dodge their thugs and other ghost-killers and raid with troops. At the same time, you can also use your stealthy acolytes to raid as skelly spammers with a handful of disposable spirits to front line for you (they're stealthy too, after all). This lets you slip past their guard if they manage to set up a blockade on any choke points, and also lets you sneak away if you're for example fighting a Midgard that uses magic phase movement to hit your ghostly raiding parties.

Get Evo online early. Your ghosts aren't good at killing things, but your Acolytes will be once you have nether darts and shadowblasts. Your best weapon, however, is Winds of Death. With immortal casters, you can hit any sizable force that enters your dominion every turn, causing significant attrition at the cost of only 2 gems. You can either bring fewer gems to avoid antimagic / army of lead casts OR bring extra gems to cast it twice and force gem usage if your opponent's army script will burn enough gems to make this worthwhile.

Bring diversity on your pretender. Lemuria almost requires a Lich Queen, unfortunately, but the good news is that you can get all kinds of cool spooky magic and have your pretender drop onto enemy armies by herself like the awesome, immortal supermage that she is. Bring A2 since pearls are your second most valuable gem after D gems, and bring E2+ because Wizard's Tower and RoS are both amazing tools to have in your arsenal. Everything else is up to personal preference.

Get indy mages wherever possible and prioritize hiring them over anything else.

I'm less interested in slogging through the next 40+ turns to find a conclusive winner than I am in ending this game. I spoke to Berytos, who was the holdout a week ago, and he is now willing to let this end. 45 throne points is crazy. I am the largest nation, having conquered the bulk of 7 nations, and have less than 20. Hinnom is the next largest, with 5 or 6, and together we still wouldn't have enough.

Is there anyone who is invested in continuing? Or can we let this die so I can focus on something else?

kill it so I can move onto other memes
>>
>>163866249
Two more things -
Early game crossbows are rad, because ghosts are actually really good front liners against most nations, but suck at killing things. Crossbows, naturally, are best when they have a front line for them and can do the killing from safety. Because ghosts have javelins, they will even be targeted by Fire - Archers so it's harder for your opponent to hit your crossbows reliably, whereas you can shoot his unless he's Pythium or somesuch and can similarly have units with a ranged attack as their front line.

Also, your research is going to suck. If you use an awake pretender, spam acolytes early, rush ench, and then spam revenants solely to be more efficient researchers, you can make it suck less but it's still not going to be GOOD. As a result, you need to make sure that your early magic is going to be as useful as possible with as little RP as possible. Similarly, since you have fewer mages, you want your spells to have as high of an impact as possible with relatively few casters. This means battlefield spells like Winds of Death, Wailing Winds, and Darkness are great, but also applies to big spells like Shadow Blast. While Hordes of Skeletons are great for skirmishes, you're not like C'tis or Agartha in that you just don't have enough mages spare to spam it.

Overall, Lemuria is easy to expand with and great for practicing troop splitting and raiding, but you are an underdog against most opponents in a straight fight. You make up for this by being an absolute pain in the ass to actually kill and by having strategies that scale well into the end game naturally. I probably won't ever play this nation again.
>>
I really like this game but i dont understand how to play properly.

I tried out the Tir na n'Og (EA) and just spammed holy units with a plus 9 earth and water pretender. I am doing ok like i can just zerg the map but it feels like i am missing out on 99% of the game.

How do i get good and learn to use magic properly, and when should i build palisades or fortresses?

Am i best of just taking as much land as possible at the start or focusing a small empire and turtle a bit.

Also who are a fun starter faction?

Lictors or Shadow Vestals?

Should I only recruit standards and principes? The spear and bodyguard both have old age and no ranged. Which seems to make them expensive crappy lictors.

The net dudes seem pretty good too. Why would I get the flail dudes over them?
>>
>>163868178
Shadow vestals because of their low res cost. They become much better with W9 or S9 but can expand fine with neither if you have a few romans or skelemans to take arrow fire. Lictors are sorta specialized units when you want a high damage magic attack (though generally you'll prefer summons for this) or can benefit from a big bless if you're a disciple. They're not really all that good for most circumstances.

Principes are your best romans in most situations, but the cheaper ones can be useful too for either getting more javs in the air or if you're gated by gold rather than res. In general, tho, Sceleria relies mostly on its longdead to be your frontline rather than living soldiers. The spear guys have better than normal attack and very long weapons, which make them good at repelling enemy melee attacks. They're also not cap only, whereas lictors are.

The flail dudes have two attacks. Both types of gladiators are set free after one battle, whether they live or die, so they're also fairly niche units for when you're desperate to get dudes out for that one fight (and can't get them sniped by a simple magic phase attack or a scout) or when you need to hold up the walls of a fort.
>>
>>163868056
I, for one, appreciate the effort.

>>163867027
Build mages and use them. Fighting the AI with a big bless may not let you see the best uses for mages, but you can at least learn magic that's effective against blobs and maybe thugging. The answer will be from MP games, tho.

Build palisades by default. They're cheaper, they come up sooner, and they let you recruit mages just as well.

Take as much land as possible always. People that tell you to be conservative are wrong and bad.

My favorite nations are Berytos and Fomoria. Both open up a variety of tactical options, and Berytos has nearly full diversity, meaning that you get to try out lots of different kinds of magic.
>>
>>163868178
You should be talking about Skeleria. With good bless the Shadow Vestals expand beautifully and with scales the resource-heavy top notch roman national troops expand well. Shadow Vestals are due to their etherealness one of the few national sacreds that really benefit from S9.

Good bless keeps you from being ganked in the very beginning while you are putting up skeleton factories and good scales gives you money for all those temples and thaumaturgs.

The spear, bodyguard and the gladiator troops all have their niche uses when you require guys with long weapons, are fighting an assassin nation, desperately need troops somewhere for one battle or need the netting special ability.

Flail dudes have two attacks, which makes them very effective in getting through light skeleton spam and the like.
>>
>>163868578
Should I prophet the scout, recruit an assassin and prophet it, or recruit a grand thauma to prophet?

My general strategy has been high candle with at least a double bless into nature and hammer for the reinvigoration and regen. The statue of fertility offers those, if I recall for cheaper than an oracle into arcane and water. Pumping out at least a priest every turn and as many lictors as res allows and vestals to take the remainder. If I have any more res after holy points are exhausted, I hire net dudes.

I try to stay away from making the bulk of my forces undead. They have a habit of attracting bad outcomes. Massed priests or mind flayers. I use priests extensively for longdead spawning and have someone making skele necklaces monthly.
>>
>>163869228
>have someone making skele necklaces monthly
As one simple priest recruitable from about anywhere with only a temple can make more skeletons than the additional effect of the necklace offers, I'd strongly recommend spending the death gems in some other manner, especially as the cost+upkeep of the priest will be much less than the fair market price of the death gems.

I myself often get very unimaginative and just spend the gems on Banes, stick a frost brand & vine shield on them and let them loose backed by a screen of skeletons. Other guy on here vouched that the longdead horsemen summoning spell is a better way to use the gems.

What?
>>
>>163871416
For some reason, some of the very central copmutations relating to Innate Spellcaster function very slightly differently on different operating systems. This usually isn't a big deal but with big reverse communions and a lot of AI casting you can end up viewing replays that show vastly different results than the casualties window. The turn is actually processed by Llamaserver on a Linux box but if you view the replay on Windows it will be different. With that much innate spellcaster the differences add up more and more quickly and can be wildly divergent.

I know some other software have similar issues due to differences in how various compilers/math libraries/whatever round floating point numbers so I'd assume Dominions has the same deal. They haven't fixed it either despite being aware of the issue and the problem actually being a nastier one (like Total War games not having crossplay between Windows and OS X/Linux, but those two playing just fine with each other) so while I don't understand the technicalities of it, I assume it's not an easy fix.
>>
>>163873224

Supayas are entirely possible to ignore completely if you have Antimagic and they DON'T have an F9 bless. If they do have an F9 bless they're pretty nasty, but in most cases I'll take the Shadow Vestals.

it depends.

amount of units in a province can be inaccurate, or even rendered inaccurate, through a number of different things. Glamoured/Stealthy troops don't show up, certain items show more/less of a unit. A scout in the province shows a more accurate picture, a spy an even better one, and scrying on it gets rid of a lot of the guessing.

From what I can tell with the information you've posted is that there are probably x and y types in the province and there are probably at least 2 units there.

I believe the only holdout atm is either R'lyeh or Therados . . . maybe Agartha.

An actual throne victory isn't likely (if the main actors keep playing) for another 100+ turns btw - while you are the largest in all counts it isn't anything like the crushing lead R'lyeh had in Der Gotter, and 45 throne points was fucking unfeasible retarded shit there too.

The one Archaea game that did end, All Yesterdays, had a throne count of 50%+1. Even then this was likely too high, since it was obvious who was going to win at least a dozen turns beforehand.

For future games such as Archaea, I believe it's time to simply accept the idea that some games (the super large ones) should have throne requirements under 50%. For 65 throne points on the map, 30 under the control of a single player should be plenty.

Mind, Ulm doesn't currently own that in AT, but at least 30 is an actual reachable goal, instead of the insanity that is 45.

15 Provinces per player is, imo, slightly on the upper end - anything more is unwise.

Personal preference here is 12-15, though 12 per player means you'll need to prepare for war by late year1 generally.
>>
>>163908543

>nerfing a unit that is already bad

Hey guys, anyone got that link to the dom4 soundtrack? Strella do dia, etc?
>>
>>163908574

You should be preparing for early war regardless. If you're not capable of prosecuting a war early, or at least resisting a rush, you're really gambling with your nation design.
>>
>>163909329
Some nations don't really have a choice in the matter. Kailasa, Marverni, etc - if they get bless rushed, they lose.

decreasing the province per player amount strengthens nations with good troop lineups and excellent sacreds, and takes a steaming dump on those without - which were often subpar nations to begin with in many cases.
>>
>>163910169
On the other hand - increasing the amount of provinces per player increases the amount of land a nation with strong sacreds and good expansion can get unopposed by other players, thus increasing their advantage even further.

But I agree it is a fine line. With a province per player count so high players won't even meet each other before endgame, the "slow starter get stronger" nations obviously have the advantage. It is all about finding the right balance.

I resolutely agree that the right amount of provinces per player is between 12-16 in any standard multiplayer game. However, it should be noted that the later ages have harder indies than EA, which by default gives advantage to the nations with the ability to clear "any indies" "easily".

With a fairly minor bless kailasan sacreds will kick to death most things in the early game. Marverni can boar warriors enemies to death, hilariously - or they can wait for cascades, if they haven't been elfed on turn 3 or something. Most nations have earlygame options, and those aren't actually the weakest against early attacks. firbolg-expansion TNN or Arco, early Bery, all have more trouble against a rush.
>>

Well, this game is finished.

Internally speaking, it would take a grand alliance to beat Ulm - which, because it's domg, will never happen.

From an external perspective, it might be possible to physically outlast Sum1won and the other people playing, but that's pretty lame.

Lesson to learn from this, and from Der Gotter - large games should NOT require a majority of thrones to win - its just too much. They certainly shouldn't need 75%. Something like 22-25 would have been sufficient for this game - and would have allowed Ulm to win in another half dozen turns.

I will be starting a new Archaea game very shortly - with a far reduced throne amount, throne requirement to win, and not starting until sum1won makes Oceania better than the fucking indies.

So murdering winter randomly select 1/2 the enemies troops in a province at hits them with 7+ AN damage. Now if you were to use two murdering winters and the second would randomly select the same unit that was hit by the first would the damage stack?

Yes, you could hit a guy twice and have damage stack.

Spending that many gems is usually not worth it, but if someone makes a large stack (or is using chaff to protect a fort like >>163999426 said) you can do enough damage to justify the gem cost.

I assume when he says "Manual site searching" he means sending a mage to the province to search for magic sites.

There are also path-specific sitesearch ritual spells, which can be cast remotely and are guaranteed to find all the sites of their path. Those cost gems to use though.
>>

Okay, so, going to be fairly honest here. I am scared of the Skaven. Their ramp into UNLIMITED POWER is far, far, _far_ easier than mine and they don't appear to have been shat on hard enough to even delay them. To meme, 'Even Khorne Is Afraid!'.
I'm going to stop fighting the rest of you fucks as long as you stop trying to fight chaos and at least in some way, directly or indirectly, try to hold back the rats. We need to focus on the Skaven because no seriously they're just going to win and we're all going to go 'wow turns out the guys we all thought would win before this game got organised won, what a shock'. Then they'll turn out to be Malakal or some other stupid meme.
As stupid as it sounds, I don't actually want to win. My game plan has always been 'do some stupid shit so I can see what all the khorne stuff looks like in-game because I can't even see sprites on mod-inspector, then maybe suicide into the other chaos powers because lol chaos and send roleplaying messages to people in all-caps'. And instead it's turning out that whoops I have to sort of play properly because people are determined to let the rat-things engulf them with hellpit abominations. Can we not?

Modding dominion effects is hard because there is no way to have events trigger in enemy provinces with your dominion. You can do it through a Global spell as you can use #req_enchdom, but other than you can't have one nations dominion cause effects in other nations provinces through event modding.

I may be able to take turns, or may not. More likely the latter. I'm pretty busy, and it's not easy to get Internet working on anything but my phone when I'm not on dry land. It'll be a bit tough later as well. If you want to sub me out or set me AI, that would be reasonable. My preference would be for my neighbors to be gentlemen and not attack me until I'm done staling, but I recognize that this is a tall order when I was already at war.

Alright, time for the 4th rendition of Archaea, this time with a twist: sane throne requirements to win.

6/15 thrones needed to win, some adjustments were made to the map (connecting the one lonely caves to larger systems).

For those thinking 6/15 is too low, AntiquisTerra Ulm would have just barely met those requirements. Der Gotter R'lyeh, at the time that game ended, would have had 6 or 7, can't remember exactly what was owned. (The thrones are pre-placed, generally between 2 nations. For further details one can simply check the map data).

For people who want an MA/LA game instead of EA, please upload a map that works for those ages instead. Archaea, as is currently drawn, doesn't really function with nations of those ages too well.

The positive side of all this is that it gives me a chance to examine that lovely Westeros map. At a glance, the map doesn't particularly seem great for a regular match but it may be fun for some kind of war scenario. Maybe an old fashioned team game that ends when certain citadels are captured? A 50 turn rip off the GoT board game where everyone has their own special victory conditions?

We'll see.

The funny thing is its actually pretty rightly sized for 30 players - land nations have a little more than 13 provinces per player.

Water nations have it a bit better, at around 18/player, which makes UW nations far more a threat than they normally are - though few have ever bothered attacking land nations ever (Therados in AY and AT, R'lyeh in DG).
