I just beat the genocide route for the second time and after the window closes after displaying all those 9's, I relaunched and the game was totally normal. No black screen with howling wind. imo the whole resetting over and over thing is even more unforgivable than just killing them once would be because I'm a personal believer that identity death is just as horrible if not more horrible than regular death because at least there might be some sort of afterlife if you die where you might still get to be you but identity death means that your actual consciousness is changed forever and in the case of being reset that version of you is also gone. Its not really a huge thing in the actual game because it all takes place over the course of a day so they aren't really that different but its still fucked up for Frisk or the player to do it

What Flowey was doing by interacting with and changing people over and over only to jerk it back and undo it all and reset them back to that 'blank slate' is completely monstrous because that version of that person is effectively lost forever due to the way time travel works in undertale. Since his whole thing was about seeing all the different ways people could react you can assume that he changed people to a much higher degree than you can in the game

I still like his character a lot though and he's clearly not a threat at the end of the game since he can't do that anymore so I guess its fine enough for him to get to hang with everyone and be happy.

Yeah and that's one of the reasons I'm still pretty iffy about his character. I know a lot of people will disagree and get mad at me for this but my personal headcanon for Flowey is that when he starts to forget what it was like to love again he offs himself just to make sure nothing like that will ever happen. I think it fits well for the type of person the real Asriel was and is a poetic and appropriate way for his character arc to end since he would be scarficing himself to save eveyone again just like he did the first time he died and just like he did at the end of TP
It makes his character a lot more impactful that way

Imagine this situation:
One night, you are making out with Undyne. It's all good until suddenly, your phone rings. You pick it up and hear the caller yell "What are you doing with my daughter?!" You immediately end the call and tell Undyne about it, but then she says that her father is dead. Right after you ask her who called you, a large burning boss monster bursts through a wall, with an expression that could only be described as that of pure rage. Before you can do anything, he puts his hands into your mouth and tears you apart.

No, he was actually able to kill himself its just those thoughts are what allowed him to revive but that isn't a thing that would happen anymore. I think after the events of Undertale Flowey / Asriel is a much different person with a much different state of mind than he was at even the start of the game. I think he would gladly kill himself and risk the void in order to protect his friends.

Yeah, I mostly agree with you on this, especially in terms of identity death, since that is very firmly an 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream' level of messed up. It's pretty much unforgivable, and he does acknowledge that.

At the same time, I don't think he really thought much about it, not that that's in any way better. He started as a scared kid waking up in a completely changed body (in and of itself an 'and I Must Scream' scenario), his dying sibling missing, his parents not responding to his call. Later on realizing that thing that makes monsters who they are is missing from him, he's permanently broken. He tries to kill himself and even that doesn't work, he tries being nice and that does absolutely nothing (even when you're detached enough, I think you still get at least a good vibe from being a good person,but even that's gone), and he has a god-like power. Any combination of that would break a person's mind, but less a child's. Still unforgivable actions, but people do tend to forget a lot of the context going into this.

I respect you headcanon, though I can't agree with it. My biggest problem is that an ending like that clearly serves to show that Asriel was just born to suffer constantly. He made a mistake in trusting Chara, but pulled back at the end and died for it. He made many-many mistakes as Flowey, but pulled back from Hyperdeath and lost his last chance of being 'normal' for it. If his post-TP fate would be to die all over again, then he'd go out with the thought that it may have been better if he was never even born and he wouldn't necessarily be wrong. Undertale does show with a couple of characters and needless self-sacrifice is actually a really bad idea, so to me it'd make more sense that he'd be given some form of rehabilitation. He's in no way the same as he was, and it's very much up to debate whether he'd go down the same path again.

I like stuff that's heavily implied by the game for the most part, like Undyne and Alphys probably continue their relationship and get married, Asgore and Sans get over their past and chill out, and Frisk saves Asriel using their determination and after a childhood growing up together fall deeply in love and have a beautiful goat-human hybrid family with three goat-human hybrid children and grow old and happy together.

I would never say that Asriel isn't sympathetic and I'm a firm believer that its okay to sympathize with anyone really and that you can both judge them while also still liking them and sympathizing with them. This goes for both Asriel and Asgore who did really fucked up things but are still both very sympathetic regardless and I would personally be cool with both of them getting a happy ending despite everything that happened but while Asgore got a somewhat positive canon ending Flowey was fucked over by Toby so completely that his only real options are either to suffer for whatever time he has left knowing that he'll never get to be truly happy or feel love again or to betray his own ideals and revert back to his old Flowey self and compared to those two I think the Asriel we meet at the end of TP would rather sacrifice himself.

I guess it really depends on how much of the old Asriel is actually left after TP and if its enough to counter that self preservation aspect that Flowey has and his fear of what will happen to him after he dies

I get your reasoning though I don't necessarily agree with all it. Flowey still has a relatively full range of emotions, from happiness to sadness, with empathy and love missing. Make no mistake, these are huge things to lack, but they're both things that actual real-life people have to deal with, like people suffering from significant PTSD.

Down in the Underground, I don't think anyone was even halfway prepared to help him and while Toriel and Asgore also had the best intentions, neither of them were really capable. Up on the surface, he can have therapy though, he can learn from people suffering similar things, not to mention there's all the stimuli he never got to experience while locked up. It also helps that he and Frisk share many secrets, which can forge a very strong link between them.

But yeah, he definitely has the worst stack of cards I'd say. I just think that it's only hopeless if nobody tries to do anything with it, he can still have a decent life, while sacrificing himself would be closing that avenue without trying. And that's assuming Frisk doesn't reset, if he dies.

Asgore is still king. But now he has a royal council to aid him.
Toriel is on that council, being the minister of Education and child welfare.
Soul absorption becomes massively taboo in monster society, worse than murder.
Frisk is the ambassador. They quickly become a popular and well respected public figure in both human and monster society.
Frisk visits Flowey in the Underground devotedly every couple of days for the first year.
After the first year, Flowey agrees to leave the Underground and becomes one of Frisk's bodyguards. Arguable the most loyal and devoted one of them all.
Toriel adopts Frisk. Asgore wanted to do so as well but backed off at Toriel's insistence. Frisk still has a good relationship with him though, and regularly has tea with him.
The monsters' liberation leads to massive technological and scientific leaps as magic and knowledge is shared between the two races, leading to a new golden age.
