Are you kidding? Get a Heavy Abyssal and 2x 27.2 gems and that thing will hit like an absolute truck, dude. Even in PvP you can see 900+ damage with a single hit on counterhits.
Slotting a single Heavy Abyssal into STR weapons with low scaling values amps up their damage far, far more than a third 27.2 would.

Yes, but like the Chikage, blunt gems only work on a specific form. The Kirkhammer's sword form is well and truly worth using due to the contrasting speed. It adds a lot of versatility to the weapon in PvE and PvP situations. A good weapon is a versatile one.

Of course, I'm not saying "don't use blunt gems", I'm just saying that it's not always the wisest course of action to "lock" yourself to using one form of a weapon exclusively.

The greater your will to resist beasthood, the more fucked up a beast you become. The vast majority of people don't have the willpower to resist for long, so they become regular beasts. Only a select few turn into things like BSB.

As for why there's a dead one hanging in the church could be anyone's guess. Personally, I don't think the beast patients are responsible for having killed it, as they are not hostile towards the BSB in the Hunter's Nightmare. It doesn't make much sense for humans to put a nasty beast right in one of their churches either. Perhaps it was slain by a hunter during the purge of Old Yharnam, and later on the surviving beasts found the body and hung it up in the church to be worshiped.

You can pick up the Saw Spear in the Yharnam sewer area, it's basically the skill Saw Cleaver and also sort of a better weapon. Threaded Cane, too, is very good crowd control.

The DLC, however, has the best Skill weapons, one of which can be found very early on, the Beasthunter Saif.

Gun damage is dependent on the Bloodtinge stat and upgrade level. The pistol and blunderbuss aren't very good for raw damage, the Evelyn, found in a later side area, has some highest gun damage, the Cannon is another high damage gun. Arcane does nothing for guns, it makes Hunter Tools (your spells) better, and some weapons, and any weapon converted to elemental damage using fire/bolt/arc gems, better.

Summoning someone helps, but ultimately there's very little you can do to full on make the fight easy.
Loch Shield helps in his second phase when he bounces around and keeps throwing his placenta orbs everywhere.

Loran Darkbeast isn't actually that hard once you figure out how to work him over. He goes down right quick when you do, breaking his limbs one after the other without giving him a chance to power up.

This is said from the position of an arc build with a fire Whirly, though, so my opinion might be a touch biased. 3K damage running heavies have spoiled me a bit, for sure.

Going through the DLC now and I can safely say this is the least amount of fun I've had with any of the souls games. The bosses are just ass and I don't want to play the game anymore because playing the game right now amounts to spending five minutes strafing around ayylmaos and then getting oneshot by a random meteor. It's a miracle I managed to kill Ludwig after twenty-something attempts and I'm sure the next boss is going to be just as awful. All I wanted was a Bloodletter but now I just want to delete this strength/bloodtinge character and start a new build. A build that doesn't need anything from this god awful DLC.

Only using whirligig and HMLS so far, what else should I check out? Especially stuff I can use while farming nourishings for my moonlight sword.

Base stats Wheel with Flat Arc already performs great with the multi-hits so 50/25 can still use it effectively. You could stick to mainly untricked and slot in Blunt gems too. Nourishings on 50/25 can work fine as well, maybe not as well as 25/50 revved up but it'll still hit hard.

I have mine gemmed with a radial cold abyssal with +5.6% vs open foes, a cold triangle with +15 fire and a Hotdog abyssal. It works best as a fire weapon because that way it functions as an all-star beastslayer, and Oil Urns make short work of just about anything. I wasn't kidding when I said 3K damage running heavies. It's fucking ridiculous.

Moonlight Sword is good too, yes. Hitting things with the sword won't do as much damage as you'll want it to, but the L2 and the moonbeams, as well as the untrick attack, do some big numbers. Plus for PvP literally like everyone will walk into your R2 followups and just die, and that never stops being funny.

Depends on what you want to get out of it. I prefer 25/50 or 20/50 as it is in my case because it's more versatile, but I'm sure one could make a case for 50/25. Wheel and Moonlight Sword are both great,plus with 50 arc you get access to cold abyssals which mean you can use literally anything as long as you meet the minimum requirements.

Building for the Wheel is actually super simple:

If 50 strength, temperings or blunt adepts.
If 50 arc, nourishing abyssals.
If twink/vitgouge, brainsucker temperings.

Arc Wheel gets huge benefits from revving it, so be sure to make regular use of that and laugh at the comically high damage numbers you throw around.

The only reason my arc build is 20/50 and not 25/50 is because I built specifically for the Wheel way back when, and way back then I made a decision to level to 20 endurance because the Wheel is kind of stamina heavy. I know now it would have been better to go 25/15 str/end instead, but by the time I figured that out I'd already invested so much time and grinding so many gems I didn't want to bother going through it all again.

It's not so bad, really. The damage difference isn't that big and it's honestly kind of nice being able to throw four R2s in a row and not care. None of this is relevant if you're planning on building higher than 98 either, because you can easily hit all the proper numbers by going to 110 instead. It all depends on what your build plan is.

When you're in online mode, if you want to summon randoms, you just ring your beckoning bell and that's it. If you want to specifically summon someone from here or elsewhere, you go into your settings, go to network, punch in a password and then ring. Then only people with a matching password will get summoned.

Tossup between the Wheel and the Stake Driver. I love the design on both of them, and they both feel so good to swing around, the Wheel in particular. Though nothing quite feels the same as landing the rocket punch and just deleting something.

Moonlight Sword, with Beast's Embrace in close second. Bloodborne's Moonlight Sword is the single most satisfying iteration of it throughout all of the games, and it's super good on top of that. Beast's Embrace just feels fantastic, really nails the feral, vicious combat that a blood-drunk beast would have. My only complaint with it is that the jump attack is just a cool as fuck flying leap and not a psycho crusher instead.

Assuming you mean set and not a combination of my own, I think it's probably the Graveguard set. The mask, the tools hanging off the robe, it all looks so eerie and makes me wonder just what the fuck Dores even did. Though I'm also fond of the Executioner set and the way it highlights their fanaticism, what with the divots and, well, the fucking cone.

I actually really like Yahar'Gul. The atmosphere is so good, what with the bodies belted into the walls, the Cramped Caskets, the dead Snatchers scattered about. Real shame traversing the area is so shitty, and that it leads to such a lame boss.
