Nice!
>>
What is the best Domination target?

Shieldbearer seems pretty great.
>>
>>163374220

Yeah, shieldbearers are excellent. Also Gatekeepers, if you can swing that.
>>
>>163374220
Sneks are always 100% chance of success with strong psi, decently tanky due to a medium health pool and dodge, and bring some nice utility with free aim poison and the ability to disable any a target completely. Plus once you are done with the mission you can take the snek back to base and remove it
>>
>>163374735
>Dominating Gatekeepers
That sounds difficult and a ballsy use of action points, I'll have to try it.

Do I have to wait until a gatekeeper opens up to flashbang and set them on fire? I feel like I'd need all the will penalties I can get.
>>
>>163375489

Bangs work on a closed Gatekeeper, not sure about incendiaries.

They probably flew over a no go zone where there isn't actually any terrain. This will kill any unit instantly. Works on your troops to. One of those also exist on the L-Shaped highway map.

In XPiratez, why do I sometimes get negative points for capturing people alive, and positive for killing them?

I don't know how up to date is, but this wiki has also been useful for factions. Just because someone has a pistol doesn't mean they aren't considered a civilian. You can get civilians mixed in with enemy combatants on the same mission.

runs like shit too the whole game feels so janky

every time i switch unit i get a slight freeze and the cinematics always lag like a motherfucker at the start then speed right up (like when your guys get out the ship at the start of a mission) and right click doesnt work to get me out of menus but i distinctly remember it used to do that so now i gotta click everything manually and it takes ages

I also have 8 gb RAM, I have 209 mods installed(I don't have all of them active atm though, probably 170 or something is active) and I don't have that issue. I get that issue during the end game cinematic where I just close the game so I never see the end but it doesn't happen anywhere else. Can someone tell me how do you guys use your scouts and why do you find them so useful/necessary? I tried them a few times, I mean it does help seeing where enemies are but if you move a not concealed squad mate close to them you trigger them anyway, even if the tile said they wouldn't see you on the concealed scout. I don't know of a ranged attack with such range you can attack them before triggering them either, they just look useless to me.

Knowing where pods are ahead of time works wonders for your positioning, and also helps to make sure that you aren't triggering more pods than necessary. Scouting ahead also means on timed missions you are safe to dash. As the other anon mentioned, you can use snipers from squadsight, or use grenadiers to log explosives over LOS breakers or straight up squadsight with the blaster launcher.

i find my scout pretty useful, he has massive mobility so i can move up a very large chunk of land and then dash the rest of my troops at no risk, securing meld and good positioning, lightning reflexes will never not be useful in a pinch, and i often use him as a flanker for easy kills, particularly good when half cover counts as full
can also be used to circle around and trigger pods from a particular direction, making them run into an ambush

I had that issue myself a few days ago. I ended up getting so fed up I went and ordered a new 8 gigs of 2 four GB ram to go from 12 to 16 gigs. I never trust the people that tell me "Oh you don't need that much ram" - I went 12 gigs 3 or so years back and it served me well, and when my system during a reboot misbehaved and only recognized 8 gigs of ram instead of 12 I noticed a remarkable and major drop in performance with BF1.

In general browsers are ram hogs and you will want to run it with as little to no browser as possible. Normally I managed to run it with a youtube tab open. Also disable my second monitor (windows key + p to temporarily and quickly disable the 2nd monitor), but yeah voice packs and music packs can really add to the bloat.

I love UFO defence and TFTD but these games get really boring because:

Terror missions are fun. Unique map types with lots of cover and difficult enemies. But UFO raids quickly get boring and predictable. There are only so many times you can advance a few scouts through smoke while long ranged guys pick off the few aliens you encounter.

Psy ruins everything. Once you can just mind control everything it's boring as hell and you've won.

Yeah, sometimes in Xcom: EW they do an attack similar to the mech kinetic strike where they plow through cover damaging the person behind it. Made me jump the first time it happened because I thought I was safe before the wall blew up and a fucking grizzly bear came flying through. Mind you the first time it happened was about my 5th playthrough, so I guess they don't do it often but it makes it that much scarier when they do.

how do i deal with 100% chryssalid and zombies terror mission in lw if i don't know ahead of time so i don't bring a dozen assaults with shotguns?
my laser rifles simply don't deal enough damage when you factor in the need to reload, my rocketeer was beyond useless even with massive packs of zombies, very surprisingly, the zombies completely ignore me and make a beeline for civillians even if i stand within attack range on purpose
civillians also exclusively appear to spawn directly next to zombie pods
of course i'm not dying to them, that's not an issue, the issue is that a country left xcom because of this

First, that mission always happens at the same time. It's the third if the aliens don't skip any.

Anyway, the best counter to lids/zombies aren't rockets and shotguns but rather grenades. A pair of engineers stacked with AP nades are far more reliable than a rocketeer. If you are prepared you'll have that and you'll also have AP on everyone else, and shotguns. If you're not expecting it it's still prudent to have an engineer and a shotty assault on any terror, preferably two assaults or two engis since they're both good at the kind of guaranteed damage you want for terror.

As for losing civilians, that happens more because of being too aggressive. If you push too fast and activate two pods, you'll inevitably fail to kill everything instantly. And then they'll kill two-three civvies every turn, far more than if you waste a turn or three and get some deaths in the fog. My best terror missions are characterized not by how many turns total they took, but by how prepared I was for each pod activation.
>>
>>163506410
i was under the impression that i had to go as fast as humanly possible to trigger as many of them as possible before they get to the civillians, i suppose that was the polar opposite of what i should have done then, on the best turn i killed ten zombies, but it wasn't enough at all, the vast majority of civillians were left dead
on terror missions i usually bring two infantry, an engineer, an assault, a scout or sniper, with the rest being depending on what i have available, a rockeer and medic in this case
i don't think a single ap grenade per turn will be as good as two 100% shots from my infantry every other turn, the severe ammo limit forcing me to shoot and reload inbetween, i did use my officer to command my engineer to throw two in one turn once and it was underwhelming

Infantry as a class is a bit deceptive because their weaknesses are subtle. Two shots is a shiny advantage but you still need to blue move, and as you said reload. To avoid reloads I like giving them gunslinger and machine pistols (as long as they have good mobility; I'm a heretic who makes assaults from low-mob soldiers so I can keep the high-mob for inf). Ultimately you still lose a lot of blue shots to movement, and scouts do the move+shoot thing better while also bringing utility to the table. And they tend to always lag behind the squad which is another reason I use high-mob guys for infantry.

Another weakness is that infantry is really cover-hungry. The best frontline cover should go to the infantry, if you have two of them they'll often take all cover available for themselves.

They're a useful class with a place on almost any mission but when I started I used to go crazy bringing three-four per mission and I only realized their drawbacks after I cut back their numbers and everything became easier. Not saying that 2 per mission is crazy, just felt like ranting about my mistakes

>>163509520
i do like deploying two infantry at a time on occasion, but anything more would be insanity
my rocketeer and sniper doesn't need premium cover, and everyone else needs full cover or they're not allowed to be in position at all, this makes for my idea of positioning infantrymen in key locations to tank shots as well as to get two shots in per turn while the rest of my team does something, probably working to flank, or to keep vision so i don't get flanked, or to throw nades or smoke or flashbangs or whatever, sometimes taking pot shots
i'm probably not getting the right research or perks for my troops, but being able to shoot and then have opportunist overwatch afterwards feels invaluable since it completely kills enemy movement and makes for easy flanking while also doing constant damage. once i get the muton autopsy and lock n load most of my ammo issues will be relieved
covering fire seems useless to me since it drains ammo and wastes overwatches, so i give all my infantry executioner because they are in for the long slog where they kill enemies over time or target already weakened enemies, not to take them from full health to zero health instantly. but if they were to do that, their second shot would be more accurate. i also give them deadeye since suppression duty is delegated to medics and engineers
not sure if i should take bring em on or sentinel, extra conditioning or vital point targetting, although i'm seeing something very tempting with rapid fire and a lot of ammo, it could allow for an obscene amount of shots every turn, and by all accord my strategy with infantry seems to be quantity over quality
the only problem with my tactic that relies mostly on infantry fire is when i'm fighting outsiders, their superior aim makes hard cover infantry tanking very ineffective even with smoke grenades and flashbangs in play

>>
>>163512409
I see deadeye as an earlygame crutch perk. It's your fast, specific counter to floaters in the second month. I put it on some of my scouts at the start, but it becomes less important later on.

Extra conditioning is a really good perk, it boosts all important stats, you get faster, you get more survivable, you can use the health boost to ditch an alloy plate for a damage item, and I'd definitely take it on the pictured soldier since his mobility is low. BEM is good if you have aggression and pointless otherwise. I'm very skeptical of rapid fire but I haven't tried it so who knows - ultimately to me it seems a waste of the ultimate perk slot due to its drawbacks on infantry specifically.

Gotchya Flank Preview (Although this one doesn't work for me for some reason)
Blackmarket usage
Flamethrower Panic Fix
Stop wasting my time
Cinamatic Rapid Fire

Those are all quality of life/bug fixes Don't affect balance in any way
A questionable but all aroung nececary fix for me is the EU aim rolls mod, in vanilla xcom 2 hit chance and crit chance are calculated on the same roll, so if say an ayy has a 10% chance to hit your soldier through full cover, and make the shot, he'll also pass the 10% chance to crit you, so you'll see a lot of lucky shots also get crits. With the mod they are rolled on seperate rolls.

Damn thing is a death trap. Might as well be made of wet tissue paper as far as those 'toid weapons care, and you can't run from fuck all since you have the top speed of an athsmatic walrus.
And there's nothing like dropping that ridiculous panel door and seeing half a dozen bobble-headed tardlets swing round and shoot that green shit at you.
And all you have to shoot back with is *this* piece of yellow plastic crap.
>That's why I brought this big fella mate!
First, you're a retard. Second that's an Aqua Jet, the clue being in the name. And finally, this is a terror mission we're on, and that spinny wizz-pop piece of shit doesn't work out of water.

Terror from the Deep is my favourite xcom.
There was nothing quite like that feeling of getting your shit in a nice row and handing ET his arse on a platter, then out of the blue you run into giant lobsters of doom and can do almost nothing to hurt them. For a while.

I have many good memories of it despite the stupid bugs it shipped with one of which locked 2/3 of the tech tree behind an utterly baffling, and somewhat difficult to achieve requirement.

The look of the avatars fit with the look of power armor this time around - in being terrible. Really with the super saiyan hair it was just too silly.

>>163482273

I had the exact same Ram sticks, all 2GB in all 3 spots. Amusingly now I have 4 of those 2GB and 2 of my new 4GB ones (16 gigs total) and no problems. Does mean they run on the lower speed for now but I'll upgrade the rest soon.
>>
>>163531345
I get the feeling avatars were designed soley so that the commander became a mary sue with an actual unit in the final mission, this is a serious downgrade, because in EU it was SOLDIER that saved earf by sacrificing themselves, a soldier you built a story for over the course of the game. Having the commander DBZ beam fight with the ethereals at the end was a major downgrade.
>>
>>163530483
Yes

>>163516202

The autopsy report does mention that their musculature is atrophied to a degree that should be impossible, pretty much spelling out the fact that they're holding themselves together with psionics. X2 just explained this as a degenerative condition.

Now don't get me wrong, I miss the Ethereals as enemies on the battlefield and the visual design of the Avatar is really rather wonky, but it didn't come out of left field.

Imagine being XCOM in that shootout and having to be all like "damn, Sectoid, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your tight body and horrific human-spliced monster face. I would totally shoot you, both my avatar and the real me." when all he really wants to do is crit another Outsider in his UFO. Like seriously imagine having to be XCOM and not only stand in that cover while Sectoid flaunts it's disgusting body in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing it's malnutrition and pink fleshy skin, and just stand there, mission after mission, missed shot after missed shot, while it perfected that psi-panic. Not only having to tolerate it's monstrous fucking visage but it's haughty attitude as everyone at Mission Control tells it it's STILL GOT IT and DAMN, Sectoid LOOKS LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to stand there and watch it's veiny fucking burn-victim face contort into types of grimaces you didn't even know existed before the invasion. You've been killing nothing but a healthy diet of Mutons and Heavy Floaters and later alleged inconvenient civilians for your ENTIRE CAMPAIGN coming straight out of the barracks in HQ. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on it's slimy convex stomach as it sucks it in to writhe it suggestively at you, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to succumb to it's "mind control(for that is what it calls it, not bullshit)" mind control, the mind control it worked so hard for with the Ethereals in the previous experiments. And then Bradford tells you to "get in there and rescue those civilians", and you know you could kill every single ayy on the battlefield before the reinforcements could arrive, but you stand there and endure, because you're fucking XCOM. You're not going to lose all your willpower and chance to become a Psionic over this. Just flashbang it. Hide in full cover and flashbang it.

generals is really good despite being from the ea era, it was 99% westwood work which is why it's so good. funnily enough ea cut a ton of stuff from the game, there was so much more planned but westwood got shafted as you know, i'd probably rate it above tiberian sun and below ra2 yeah

>>163612651
For mobility
>>
>>163612651
For
>>163595449
>>
>>163612651
#1. extra mobility. In vanilla it only matters for rangers. Long War Perk Pack makes it handy on Shinobis, either for hitting the enemy in melee or shooting them from the flank. I had a couple of instances where I wished my grenadier had one but those weren't the most common scenario. Some modded classes like the Samurai who are purely focused on melee have no reason not to use the SMG.
#2. Lower detection range. Having that on your scout (and keeping in mind the extra mobility) will make them much, much more effective at doing recon at cost of being a weaker fighter if they end up being spotted or you no longer need a scout. It pairs hilariously well with skills that lower detection range, I had soldiers who were invisible to civilians and could get hilariously close to ayys thanks to their SMG.

Basically, the SMG is a good choice for the guys who are going to be scouting ahead or using their secondary much more than their primary.

Merry Christmas Commanders

Does anyone else get worsening performance as the game goes on? Campaigns always start smooth as butter but as I progress towards late game with lots of regions unlocked I seem to get a much lower FPS in the Avenger, as well as deploying before a mission, that and loading screens get wayyy longer

Got a feeling it's something to do with save game bloat which I clear out fairly regularly, as well as the huge list of available recruits as you get more regions

>>
>>163663108
Ethereals were never meant to fight. They fought in EU because you literally forced them too.

Fighting them in Xcom 2 would be silly. They literally made a new specimen, the Avatar, just so they inhabit their bodies and be more physically capable and actually shoot a gun.

The Avatars are a literal upgrade.

I find Sparks pretty useful. Then again I did Shen's mission quite early. Lost someone to Julianpod but the Spark was worth it.

That early in the game they have two armour, which is nuts. Whilst not accurate, their attacks shred armour. They make good forward units if you don't have a concealed scout since they can't cover anyway, can create cover with Bulwark and can overdrive if its a particularly nasty pod. The main reason is for Bulwark Rainmaker Rockets though. Good shred and damage with a huge radius that's likely to hit everything in a pod even after they scatter. I found I'd rather have one of those rockets over two Grenadier grenades. Especially on something with so much armour. They can also jump up walls anywhere to aim easily.
>>
>>163558205
Generally by not leaving guns alive to shoot at anyone. If I really have to, anyone ahead in full cover I have Hunker. But if you're in that situation with a timer it's basically time to choose getting the objective or saving soldiers.

I don't even know if Hunker still prevents crits like in 1 but the worst I've ever had when Hunkered is a dodge

I'm pretty sure there is some stat that gives bonus accuracy to units melee attacks. Obviously once you find that you can just bump it up to something obscene so that they always hit. Of course, don't ask me where this mythical stat I'm referring to is, I don't have the X2 ini files right now.

DefaultGameData_CharacterStats.ini for Stun Lancer's aim, though I don't see any stat directly related to their melee so this will increase their ranged weapons aim too. I guess you can create a perk or something that only increases the melee aim and give it to them, or maybe other anons know something better

You'd literally have to grenade down everything at the start to prevent the start of game-crashing fires. Like, XCOM firefighter grenadiers squad.

Or someone should mod a fire extinguished item in the game.

I've cheated by giving myself a SPARK for the early game as it's content I'm unlikely to experience otherwise. It can't keep up with the LW classes tho, even with that spark mod that adds projects to improve it.

I gave myself 8 soldiers and the next 2 missions felt stupid easy.

I feel like only the early / mid game is fun in any way. Right now I have to finish researching plasma, start training psi and do a lot of missions in the exact same way as my team is almost done receiving abilities.

Maybe I should try wave-com or what's its name.

Do they allow you to use the weapons from the previous X-COM on land missions? You are supposedly reset to basic tech because you can's use them plasma/power armor underwater so you are -conveniently- back to square one.

Nope. All the weapons from the previous game, and armor, and aircraft weapons all disappear, even for land missions, which would be quite useful. Adding insult to injury, the starting rocket launcher (torpedo launcher now) can't be used on land, and the replacement for your starting rifle is the dart rifle which instead of 20 rounds only gets 10 shots.
The in game is not consistent.

Expected as much.

It would have been cool for TFtD to start with X-COM defending the land from the initial sea alien incursions with ALL the tech from the previous game along with some veterans. It would be easy at first but it would be soon be apparent that you need to take the fight to the enemy under the sea in order to truly stop them. It's only then that you go to square one: It starts kind of easy at first because the aliens don't expect you to be on the attacking mode (this will also allow you to train more rookies) and the fact that they still reserve their best species to land/cruiser attacks. In this way, at least at the beginning, underwater missions would be the way of the original with the gradual increase in difficulty as the sea aliens devote more and more resources to stop you underwater advance.
>>
>>163782481
Yeah. Actually what I really want now is a blending of UFO defense and TFTD into one game. Probably would run pretty much exactly like your post, just add the UFO early game in before hand.

>early game standard UFO defense
>mid game you start getting the hard ufo defense races, but TFTD ayys and missions start happening. You can start researhing water tech
>By late game you are in full blown conflict on land and sea
>You can decide which final mission to go on first. Knocking out the Mars base stops ufo defense ayys and missions, tftd mission stops tftd ayys and aliens.

>I need ayys to do like 3-6 dmg against plasma reliably when they hit and to make it harder for me to kill all of them before they act. Maybe I'm playing the wrong mods.

You're not, for some reason there isn't a single mod(at least not to my knowledge) that rebalances combat. ABA, LW and Spectrum just roll with it and go down the same path as the vanilla game when it comes to damage and the like.

Someone really should make one, it's just .ini editing so i have no idea why no one has done it.
>>
>>163796306

I've done a lot of such editing for my own use, mostly with the purpose of making mid-late game enemies more dangerous and avoid the "victory is now assured" watershed. This mod is, however, highly unbalanced and I don't want to put it up on the workshop.

In the end your avatar leads your soldiers out through a collapsing psy gate and he stays behind to have a kamehameha dbz beam duel with 3 elder ghosts, they say that you are not ready and blah blah blah and then everything blows up. Commander wakes up and everyone lives happily ever after.

Then you see the ruins of the elder base on the ocean and spooky purple tentacles rise from the depth of a crevice in the sea.

So, it would seem that most elders are dead.

They should of kept the ethereal red and silver colour scheme. I think they should of made the ethereal look like ancient gods(see pic), but more sci-fy because they'd be fucking proud of their new amazing bodies.
