Best bet is you read books, find an author you like and take on his or her writing style. Read (good) fanfics, find ERP logs and read those. Study grammar, always have a thesaurus and dictionary open so you don't repeat words or phrases, just keep in mind not to use words that are too fancy and don't fit.

It will take you 59 days of waiting on leve allowances to get every crafting class to 50, assuming you attain levekits for them. It takes 68-71 leves per crafting class from 15-50, and it takes 11.5 days to attain 70 leves. This isn't assuming you do every single HQ GC turn in a day, which I did, and focusing 6 Ixal dailies to one crafting class. These two things cut down the leves required by a HUGE amount.

I honestly can't say too much about it because I never really played a healer before the nerfs and only recently finished leveling my AST (not due to them being FOTM, I just really love buffing people and AST is basically the only job that lets me do it) but I feel that there wasn't really too much of a reason to use an AST before they got their ridiculous buff. I agree that it's too huge of a straight up buff and they should have done something else instead.

Arrow card>Balance for BLM, BRD and MCH.
Spear is a free re-roll until you /really/ know how to use it because it's very situational.
Ewer is burned unless you yourself need it.
Spire is burned unless you have a WAR tank who has just used all of his TP on Overpower, in which case giving it to him/her will cause them to love the shit out of you.
Bole goes to tank if you're feelin' the heat, otherwise re-roll it.
Balance goes to melee dps or summoners. Arrow can go to summoners too but it's not as good as it is on BLM.
Never EVER reroll an Arrow or Balance card.
Always use a card, no matter how shitty it is, after a minute. (Draw, burn, 30 second CD to draw another card.) There should never be a time where a card isn't played at least once a minute.
Save Celestial Opposition until AFTER you've played your card, otherwise you're wasting it because it adds 10 seconds to your buffs and hots.
Burning Spire and Ewer cause your next card played to be "expanded," meaning it goes to all members in range. These should be your priority cards to burn. Arrow/spear comes second, with Bole coming in third.
Letting your tank dip to low hp as an AST is a preferred thing to do, as you can swap out of Cleric and use Essential Dignity + Aspected Benefic to top them off really quickly.
Diural will be your stance of choice for content you're not over-geared for. It causes your Aspected Helios and Aspected Benefic to apply a HoT to the member(s) of your party, each being a separate hot.
Synastry is a great cooldown with a short recast time. Not only does it cause your heals on the tank to heal the target affected by Synastry, it causes your heals to be 20% more potent.

Diurnal gives you the easiest time "setting and forgetting" your heals to be able to help contribute DPS via Combust, Combust II, Malefic II and Gravity. The only reason you would use Nocturnal is if you severely over-gear the content, in which case your shield will last a whole hellova long time. You can shield, cleric and do dps then switch back real quick to apply another shield.
If you're in 8-man content, you use your stances according to what other healer you have. For Scholar, you'll use Diural. For WHM, you'll use Noct.
You can use either of them in dungeons according to whatever playstyle you want but a majority of AST's will tell you that Diural is the better one for solo healing. And it is.

Oh, and one other thing.
Abuse the absolute shit out of this ability. It's a free heal and a DR. Once the buffs get applied to the party members within, you can move and resume healing or DPSing as usual. Combined with a Bole card, all your tank will need is a Diural Aspected Benefic to stay near full HP.

Arrow goes to MCH/BRD/BLM. The only time you want to give Balance to MCH is during their opener or if they have wildfire active. A single target balance doesn't get applied to a SMN or MCH pet, which is a hefty portion of their DPS, so applying it to them doesn't garner the full effect of, say, giving it to your DRG with BfB up.

as a tank you'll generally want to upgrade your armor no later than every tenth level (20, 30, 40), though every fifth is better if you can stomach the looks of the tin can set.

once you're post 50, if you're in ironworks or augmented ironworks, that will last you until 56, where you'll want to upgrade to the level 56 armor set, then you'll want to upgrade to the 58 armor set once you hit 58. those levels have fairly significant increases in defense value, which is an extremely important thing as a leveling tank.

You need some way to be in communication. Roleplay works two ways, in-character and out of character. They're both equally as important. I've had many a great sessions where me and my partner made little quips out of character mid scene, it makes for a more fun experience if you're into it.
