Because those were literally the game's only 'main' gods for a very long time. The others were only really mentioned in dialogue. Two gods became slightly more relevant with the release of the God Wars Dungeon in 2007 (I think) but once again. In 2008 an xbox hueg quest sort of put the entire god/elder artefact/dragonkin narrative in motion. What really opened up that branch of the game's story/lore was a different event in 2012 or 2013. I don't remember the exact year.

Desert Treasure. And yeah, RS lore's kind of fun as long as you don't take it too seriously. Personally I still think that it wasn't a good move to introduce the gods to the main story line, but if you don't mind doing some reading there's generally a lot more to the world than you can see.

The newer 'generation' of developers seem to be aiming for a more serious and story driven narrative where the quests actually are a part of a series. The older quests are much more full of a different kind of humour and were often made several years apart, even if they were a part of the same story. Many of them also show that RS originally was an MMO-version of a 90s RPG/point and click adventure game.
It's kind of difficult to explain, but when you do a quest you can usually tell if it was made in the 'new' or the 'old school' era of the game based on the mechanics, writing and content of the quests. I am sure you'll see it for yourself if you end up doing a lot of them.

When they made the decision to introduce the gods for good they heavily focused on storylines related to them, leaving many of the older quest series unfinished for quite a long time. Most of the old series have been finished up since then, but due to the newer writing teams some of them were suddenly changed into 'new age' (One of the turning points in the in-universe history is the transition from the 5th to the 6th age) quests. Many sub-plots from the older quests were also completely forgotten in this process.
But as >>163213569 said, at this point you can easily argue that it was a good decision to add the gods to the game since they gave the writers something to focus on. Unfortunately they decided to 'spice things up' by more or less altering certain characters' personalities and alignments for the sake of story value which may or may not be a bad thing depending on your tastes.

Zaros was really old (digsite), multiple references to him and made even more clear by 05 with desert treasure. I'm sure goblins talked about bandos well before his first GWD/lost tribe appearance. I'm sure making history (05) has some other references to other gods simply by stating guthix brought humans and other species to this planet. Many other gods were in the lore (entire desert pantheon and zaros/mahj backstory) in trickles.

Well it makes sense. He wasn't 'spawned' like the EG were, he was never going to be their level simply because his 'birth' was not like theirs. For what ever reason, mortals can reach godhood by touching special items or killing others who touched special items, but EG do not seem to have that 'transference' of godhood mechanic, because plot. Maybe if he somehow kills the rest of them he can supersede being the boss, but clearly EGs can't bestow EG level of godhood, nor can you kill for it (or seren would have taken a power spike).

DG is the worst fucking shit solo. I just find it more of a pain because I only did it for the minigame rewards. The skill, was shit. The rewards were useful because at the time they were the BIS. When you could still form a decent team on w77 it was okay, but a year later things got worse.

I just don't find it fun. Some people like it for the 'free' xp you can grind in it. I was just far beyond that being helpful and only wanted the t80s which took a good 2 weeks to get. I'd almost advise people just to do river of blood and deal with a t78 instead of grinding for 600k tokens for all 3 combat styles.
