Every USN BB alive today is mostly there because they were escorts for carriers and luck. Yes you have cases of ship to ship combat but most ships were taken out by air or subs. Just because SoDak, North Carolina, and Iowa are around today doesn't mean they were the best. The US were able to keep those ships mostly because it's the richest country and could afford it while others had plenty of ships survive the war but scrapped them later since scrap was more valuable than a museum.

In mine it was an Atlanta and Kongo that were up my ass the whole match, using me as a meat shield and somehow they STILL managed to die.

So how is one supposed to play the old IJN DD line? I'm only up to the Mutski but looking down the line it seems like the issues I'm having only get worse.

I've tried playing them as their stats suggest as stealthy torpedo ninjas, and that worked for the most part up through the Izokaze. Upgrading to the Mutski however you have fewer torps on a cooldown more than twice as long, and with the two peashooters you have for main guns it feels like it's better not to fire at all and ruin your concealment. So in the end you get a single salvo once a minute and you can't do jack shit otherwise. How the hell are you expected to win games like that?

Try not to slow down that much because you lose even more speed while turning and people normally drop torps expecting you to slow down. I find that it's better to slow down when you want to do a hard turn because it actually tightens the turn.
