The Geopelias are first seen coming from Megafloat. They're Neucom's version of the Night Raven. Given how Neucom was created from core members of GR who had some data with them, they just made a copy of it for Neucom.

Besides, Neucom's main schtick is developing advanted technology, so it's pretty fearsible that they were making it in Megafloat. That also gives some purpose to Megafloat other than just being a massive man-made island that gets blown up to hell by the Night Raven.

In the book from the R1 LE DVD for 2, they talk for a bit about how Mamoru Oshii often inserted dialogue or story elements that spoke directly about or to a certain group: the otaku. I think in a way that applies here too, telling nerds to go out for breath of fresh air.

In P2, a character who was pretty much an otaku for Labors says she's done doing that and that she moved on. In GITS, either Motoko or 2501 say that when they were kids they acted like kids but now that they're an adult they don't need their childish ways anymore.

It's not a 1:1 similarity, but Simon telling you to go out and live in a real world where things aren't pre-determined and figure things out for yourself does remind me a lot of what Oshii used to do. Though in Oshii one can see a lot of contempt for them, here it's more neutral and not so overt.

These A.I.'s are clearly programmed to ignore real-life interaction outside of the missions themselves. Simon either programs them like that or he simulates pilot R&R off-camera. The only exception to this was the aforementioned Memory Error thing. Seems Simon made Rena's A.I. a little too smart for her own good (or something)

It makes perfect sense for no one to know Dision's (or Nemo's) true nature, because it's still Simon running his A.I. experiments and he can't have that kind of thing happen or else it just ruins his whole project and cause him to start over. The real question is: does Dision's copy know what THEY are?
