No, but unlike other forms of defense, it requires heavy gear/passive investment. Pretty much anyone with 155 INT can use L20 Enfeeble. Going max block is not only a costly build decision, it falls apart against actual dangerous content you can't block and you have gimped damage and a useless defense as a result against those bosses.

For a brief intro into 'how to block with life/es hybrid', just look at the gladiator forum.

Block itself is not great, but with the 100% spellblock from Gladiator, it becomes pretty good.
Combine with evasion to reduce the chances to ever get hit twice in a row ba boss, and armor plus enough life and ES to survive normla hits and not die to unblockable AoE things, anad it works.

But it is not cheap, and most certainly not the best or fastest way to play.

Anything with evasion isn't going to kill breachlords in hardcore. Because you're taking life. And you can't get enough life to counter the 45.000+ DPS breachlords get when they get to 30% hp.

On top of this life is just complete garbage at the moment, you can easily get 5-6k ES more than life. And that is without vaal discipline! With Vaal discipline ES has over 2x more life!

I wonder what the balance team is smoking. Put a recreation of Alkaizer's character into the breachlords and it would get raped. Meanwhile put a generic blade vortex 15k ES build in there and the Breachlord gets raped in a second.

Sounds pretty stupid. Fire damage double dipping on ignite is what makes it desirable over spell damage, merging the two is... bland. Similarly, chaos damage no longer double dipping on poison would mean that going phys would typically be the much better choice, reducing build diversity even further. Any suggestion you come up with would also need to be intuitively understandable, fire damage increases a fire hit and also increases burning damage from ignite, this is intuitive and expected.

Same reason you'd use a jewel that has %damage with fire skills over global %damage. Specialization gives more numbers.

What's not okay is the fact that right now, 1% fire damage is actually x^1.01 instead of x*1.01. You get quadratic growth instead of linear growth, and that's unbalanceable. 1% should be 1%, no matter where it comes from.

Build diversity is not a reason to have a mechanic which inherently violates the way the game should function. All % damage should be equal, and it is EXCEPT for double dipping. This is wrong.

Let me just get this straight though. Blade vortex double dips the 30% more damage per blade on poison meaning that instead of dealing 8% of hit-damage per second it instead does 56% of hit-damage per second at 20 stacks?

If, for instance, I were to be a blade vortex assassin and took Toxic Delivery: deal 100% more damage on critical hit with poison, then this would double the double dip on critical hit, right?

Does that not seem pretty okay?

After PoE had done like 3 leagues regular hardcore was pretty much dying out and now its just a deadzone nobody wants to play in.

The game is doing a horrid job at controlling the best builds, previously GGG would nerf and try to fix imbalances more (like life / ES) but GGG has had a passive stance ever since 2.1. Lots of people complained about 2.0 because ''hurr casters are soo weak right now you need to go armor or lightning coil due to no phys immunity through immortal call anymore'' (yep caster were a magnitude more overpowered in 1.x).

How do you actually get a lot of DPS on earthquake with just a marohi erqi 5 linked?

I'm sitting atm at 7.2k hp and only 14k tooltip on earthquake with hatred on me. It feels so slow on bossing, and probably later on at t12+ I feel like I have to switch skills since it does low damage on bosses. The clearspeed is decent and I like how it works but I would've liked it if I could somehow get the damage higher.

You get a lot of DPS once you realise that marohi erqi is just a early game crutch that helps eq a lot early on but falls off later. Many people just ignore attackspeed on earthquake for some reason.

Well, most of your damage is already the poison even ignoring all 'damage' and 'area damage' modifiers which would double dip. And if you're critting every 19 out of 20 hits you would at the very minimum be dealing 50% more damage if you're counting mean damage per second after two seconds.

Those two ascendancy points would also get you maiming all enemies, which is 'on hit' rather than 'on attack', 30% increased skill duration after recent kill, 30% crit chance, 30% damage over time increase, 10% reduced damage taken over time, and if it was feasible to have a puncture setup you could also have 20% extra chaos damage to bosses if you threw down a puncture trap.

The alternative assassin would have 30% crit multi and culling strike as well as guaranteed 100~% crit chance against full health or low life enemies.

I think the only problem is whether the phrasing of Toxic Delivery matches the actual coding.

I am getting both crit (2 nodes) and consecrated ground (2 nodes). My thought process is that flameblast has a decent channel time that I will likely be standing in consecrated ground in, so the buff should be up fairly often against bosses. I'm also grabbing a shit ton of crit in the passive tree for the 2 crit nodes. Otherwise Inquisitor is a bust as the elemental augury aura is the only other node worth having so Elementalist is the clear winner.

You can get more ES than life on the passive tree and on the right side of the tree, you would be foolish to go life. ES is very easy to get on items. All of this comes at no real cost because you can get life leach for ES and you even have CI available to you as an additional option that life doesn't have.
