A for effort, anon. I've missed these generals.
>randomly open up /vg/

Noice. Here's hoping the recent C:S DLC will gain some more interest in this general.
Rate my sewage solution /cbg/

Is alright although I feel bits of it are broken. Had a city where I got constant warnings for a lightning storm and another that got a large amount of meteors and nothing else. I really do enjoy how the water physics and disasters get along though.

CITYBOUND WHEN REEEEE
Worst mod
>>163148746
This, seriously, I'm only excited for like two games now.
Been out of the /cbg/ loop, what's so good about Citybound?
When playing SC 4, do you ever follow the lives of your sims?
>No city building game where you get to drive around and race through your city. Suffer through your own transport system.
>No GTA style game where if you want to buy better weapons and cars you have to attract high level businesses to the town
I think that's what cities skyline is missing, not enough perspective, you just sit in the clouds looking at the map.
Fuck yeah, I've missed these threads! I remember when Skylines came out and /cbg/ was full of sewage waterfall pictures. Good times.
>>163157247
That's a damn good idea. Wouldn't even need to be graphics intensive to be enjoyable.
>>163153650
City building game with minimalist graphics, really nice road building, and a much better building generating sorta thing. It's not blocky shit like CitiesSL, or SimCity.
(Don't kill me for linking plebbit please.)

>>163157247
there was the simcity 4 driving mode and streets of simcity, but both were fairly arcade-style and your actual traffic situation didn't matter.
Atleast in SC4 you could take a tank and blow shit up

>>163153650
You can build roads lane by lane, you can set how far buildings will be from the road, specify how far buildings can extend into the back, how high can they be and all that. It's amazing.
What's your favorite style or theme of city to make?
I've always made super dense NY-esque cities but after watching those Arrowhead Junction videos I've been dying to try out a more rural region with just small towns dotted about.

Slowly starting a new city, gathering monies. Smooth sailing so far.
Someone motivate me to make my new CSL map.
Ironically I've been playing AOE2 due to the new expansion and building cute medieval towns there.
>>163196839
If you don't make your map, someone else will make and publish that map and it will be inferior to what you would have done.
>>163198453
I like you. I'll do it.
Should I be connecting these two highways asap starting out or should I just build on one side and connect them when I expand?
Also how is one suppose to start off their roads? Should I be routing a two-lane road into a bigger road?

I don't think It's like SC4 where they'd just make high level industry, I think they all move to office buildings.
>having city layouts that serve no purpose other than to be aesthetic
>choosing aesthetics over efficiency
>>163220740
Yeah I tried a few and same lol, they've all been updated since I last played and i have no clue which one to try, my saves are all fucked anyway so who knows. It triggers my european road autism becuase i build lots of roundabouts and bendy roads

City builders take up a lot of time and appeal to a niche.
It seems common enough for an occasional general, a horrible oxymoron in its own right.
oh hello nice to see you back
i am dying thanks to obamacare and doctor availability, but I will help keep you alive at this time of night
Post pretty city screenshots. Anything you've got.
Have one last bump.
I probably won't die. Whatever i have isn't getting worse. It's getting better, just at a painfully slow rate.
>>163245638
I have a SimCity 2000 screenshot.
What now? There's not a lot of things to do with cities skyline.
>>163187512
What's with the yellow things?
>>163180613
Mainly two types - A shitty american industrial city or a utopia (in game terms). Having maximum land value, not having any sound pollution what so ever in residential zones, etc. Of course I build more types of cities, but so far had the most fun with those two.
>>163240519
No, how is it like? What it's about?
>>163200250
When starting off, I just connect a two lane road right to the highway. It doesn't create any traffic problems until you get the highway roads.
>>163200693
>>163200913
>>163201393
>>163201534
I don't like those roads at all. There are many ways to create a much better exchange, without stoplights. Even that first webm instanly becomes valid if you replace the top two 6-laners with highways. Also don't make roundabouts with 6-lane roads because they always create stoplights. Why would he even do that.
Back to the point, you should learn what combinations of roads create stoplights. 2-lane never have them when connecting with another 2-lane. 4-lane and 6-lane don't create them if they end at a T intersection where the top part of T moves only one way. Also if you connect a 2 lane road to a 4 or 6 lane road that continues beyond, and make the 2-lane road one way (away from the main road) it won't create a stoplight. Much easier to experiment yourself than having it explained in words by me.
An amazing highway exit is surprisingly simple, picrelated. It creates a roundabout of the highway itself, and it can support a surprisingly big load. I have a moderate size industry block connected by two of those and it never gets heavier than in the picture. The highway traffic doesn't slow down or stop in any way or any time.
>>163225194
The game is easy, once you have a few dozen hours under your belt you can do whatever the fuck you want with layouts and it will run like on butter.
>>163249308
Here's another main type of intersection I use It supports a much higher load since it has a separate ramp for each direction. Notice no stoplights. You can make it even better if you don't converge all the ramps to a single road. But that's only if it will be extremely busy. They're very complex, use IRL maps for inspiration.
>>163238112
He was developing the game for 2 years on >Java and then dropped it to start again with C++ like a sane person. We haven't even seen the new version, and it's extremely early into development, since he's making an engine from scratch. So there's no need for such specific questions. Here's an old video from the java version that shows zoning.

>>163217638
Traffic is like a herd, your job is to guide it correctly.
>>163246259
Try making a shitty city. Pollution, noise, etc. Don't make it hell, just don't try to please everyone and act like a shit mayor.
>>163249419
Another great exit. It supports a decent load, simple to build, and again, no stoplights.

Industrial cranes. Though in my mind they're meant to be the remnants of an old elevated rail line. They looked pretty good from a distance and provided a good support to cover in billboards
rohan has deserted us
Expanding industrial areas. Even have a small town for workers.
Do cims think about distance at all when choosing school/job/export route? It seems like children go to random schools, and industries export shit through the most retarded means possible (A factory 100 meters from a highway exit decides to ship it's goods through a port at the other end of the map, even if there's a port halfway closer)
This is why statistical system would have been much better than agent simulation. PC's are not yet ready for that, so devs do shortcuts.
>>163259603
Sometimes cims just teleport themselves and goods. I really wish sim city 4 was abandonware and the autistic community made it a brand new game that is the wet dream of /cbg/.OR FUCKING CITYBOUND

>>163166710
bretty gud
>>163268739
Has absolutely nothing to do with that. C:S just has no sense of style and a shitty rendering system that makes everything cartoony (in a bad way) and blurry. If mere mods can make this game look good, imagine what a competent developer with a competent engine could achieve.
If CS supported diagonal roads with houses properly attached to them I'd play it a lot more right now.
>>163269402
you do realise you can turn off the tilt shift effect if you want and I really don't see what you mean by it being "Cartoony"
>>163268739
Caesar, children of the nile and some other 3D titles are alright. Even Citybound with 0 art seems to have it's own style. CS style is just bad.
I'm learning chinese (yeah I hate myself) and I saw CS has traditional chinese. The problem is unless chinks have hawk eyes, it's impossible to read any text, it's almost microscopic. Does anyone else here plays the game in chinese (either traditional or plebeian)? Is this why asians have different eyes? From all the squinting ?
Are the DLC for CS worth my monies? I already have the original one. There is a way to unlock DLC in original games in steam using cheeki breeki but I'm afraid gaben will suspend my account.
>>163274882
After Dark, yes. Snowfall I did without. Natural Disasters looks cool but I'm waiting for a sale.
The creator content packs I personally like but I don't want to get into the paid mods debate again.
