Here´s what I DON´T LIKE about Appmon:

Overstilized characters: Haru, Eri and Astra are too much even for a franchise like Digimon. Rei it´s OK.

The lack of a insert song: It breaks a continuity

Too much intent to make a Yokai Watch ripoff: The took an entire episode to apprealize/summon an Appmon, previous Digimon seasons were focused on evolution and battles. It looks like they really are focused into selling overprized Appmon Chips. And the Appli Driver (IRL toy) solely function it´s to make noises and show some numbers with LCD lights and that´s it. Original V-Pets normally allow you to raise Digimon and and play, train, clean and fight with other V-Pets owners Digimon.

Appmon doesn´t "die" They return into chip forms. It takes away a lotsa drama and make the battles pointless.

3D/CGI for SuperForms: I don´t know sometimes it looks like 3D muppets into an anime show, it feels weird.

What I LIKE about Appmon:

Each Appmon has a personality, even enemy Appmon has a unique personality.

Creatures based on apps: The Idea is good but it´s being misleaded into Yokai Watch thing

The Digital world made into a net ocean.

So, the way Defense works in Heroes' PVP has been tweaked

This change brings a complete rework of the way Defense works in Digimon Heroes.
Until now, the Defense number was just subtracting that number from the total damage received.
If you had 3500 Damage and you got hit by a 4000 Damage enemy, you would receive 500 Damage. But if you would be hit by a 3500 Damage or lower enemy, you would get -1 Damage.
In the new System, Defense blocks a percentage of the enemy Damage. And it gets Diminishing returns. The more Defense you get, the less extra benefits you get from it.
Right now, the Damage reduction climbs like this:
- 100 Defense 5% Reduction
- 500 Defense 21% Reduction
- 1000 Defense 38% Reduction
- 1500 Defense 50% Reduction
- 2000 Defense 60% Reduction
- 2500 Defense 68% Reduction
- 3000 Defense 75% Reduction
- 3500 Defense 81% Reduction
- 4000 Defense 85% Reduction
- 4500 Defense 88% Reduction
Of course, the reduction scales between those values too, e.g. 3700 Defense will be around 83% etc.
The Damage reduction caps out at 90% Reduction, there will be no more 1 Damage received.
Healing has been increased form 1/4 of Support to 1/3 of Support.

I disagree, I don't think they expected the game to be a flop. I would believe you if they were reusing assets, models or textures from former games, but every Appmon was made from scratch, same with the mechanics, so I don't it was cheap to make.
Even Next 0rder seems to be more cheap than Appmon if you consider the circunstances (sharing a lot of things with Cyber Sleuth) and they had to release an upgraded version to at least to bring back the investment.
