Not really. Nohr's characters at least have flaws that give them sort of development or emphasis. Hoshido characters are extremely boring, the only ones who stand out are Oboro and Takumi for instance because they're so prejudiced.

Most Hoshido supports are #FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS the supports. Sakura is one of the worst, I keep forgetting she exists and her only saving grace is probably her cute Saizo support.

The thing is, Awakening brought a lot of new people to the series. Most of the people singing praise were new to the series, and got their foots wet into the SPRG genre and wanted more. Fates would have been better as a step up from Awakening, but more gradual. Less time trying to please two different sides and making a complete and more fulfilling game. That's not my post though. Sarcastic/stepford smilers are fairly common so having someone quiet and distant is also nice. Also I find her secretly craving for warmth and love side cute.

I personally find her fairly entertaining and I like her kind of dry humour. She might not stand out as much as the other gimmicky characters but in the end, I still prefer someone more grounded and consistent but not tear-inducingly boring compared to over-the-top, special snowflakes.

You'd be right if this was a turn based RPG with a fleshed out story. This is a map based plotline that revolves around about 28 or so opportunities to flesh out its story, out of which 6 are used as setup. The game has to move fast and if you can't afford to have too many characters on the spotlight. All things considered, Fates has a very short story.

These problems all ooze how most of the plot was altered to make the game more marketable.

Which is why I had another suggestion afterward, where you continue to fight against Hoshido with the plan of getting Nohrian soldiers away from Garon, exposing him for Corrin and the siblings to deal with themselves. If the fights took place along the border of Nohr and Hoshido, for instance, Corrin's army could visibly appear to be against Hoshido, while sabotaging Nohr's attempts to advance, giving Garon a good reason to send more soldiers onto the battlefield. During these fights, Hoshidan siblings would push forward to this same battlefield, under the impression that the war is at its worst here, and that if they lose, Nohrian soldiers would wash over the country, threatening the lives of many innocents in various settlements. They already see Nohrians as barbarians, so these thoughts don't seem far fetched
