Unless you're riding the line on the doom ticker and it's in a region blocking facility access or it's the first one and you don't want to miss out on meme beacons can't really see a reason to do them sometime.

Think they need some kind if rework to make them do or die like Terror missions were. Maybe locking out the region for a long period or something.

They don't have a big noticeable effect, but it does cost a lot of time. You lose out on the time you spent discovering the region originally, and the time you need to discover the region again.

Did anyone run into the EW-esque kill animation delay (where damage and subsequent death animation plays around ~sec after the firing animation)? I'm wondering if it's the game chugging under all the mods or the mods themselves. It's rather annoying since it breaks physics and makes bodies just slump to the ground instead of flying away.

I'm on my first I/L run with a spark, it's awful.

The only remotely useful feature of the Spark is that they're available for every mission, that's it. Their damage is low, they're not a high enough priority for advent to focus fire so they're not even particularly tanky. The resources you have to dump in them are astronomical.

I'm in late october and only just now starting to field powered armor and plasma rifles/shotguns. My spark still doesn't have the max rank abilities he needs to be remotely useful despite my funneling him kills every chance I get.

I even cheated and threw a superior scope on his gun from the get-go and he's still been my most lackluster unit. Their skills can even be detrimental.

After the mission begins they randomly appear at the spawn about 6 turns in or so. Too far away and too randomly for me to do anything useful with them.

It might be an option if you have that mod config menu mod thing, i'm not sure. That said, it usually happens after you complete the first part of the objective, for example if the objective is rescue a guy and then wait for firebrand, then usually they show up after you rescue the vip.

xenobiology-lasers is the only hard and fast rule to start. Don't neglect airgame upgrades, don't bother with phoenix canons, gauss is very good, you can skip over making phalanx armor and go straight to carapace, or just make a few holdover pieces, pulse is also a skippable tier, but you at least need the research so you can upgrade your aircraft laser canons, interogations are important for alot of foundry projects.

Refer to UFOpaedia if you want to know what all the autopsies and interrogations give you.

There is no set order. Keep in mind that autopsies unlock requests for those ayy corpses which can mean more scientists and better panic defense for countries. Also you can check ufopaedia for what each autopsy unlocks.

I enjoy it a lot and can't imagine running it without them. The lasers are a no brainer because I love lasers and it makes it a teensy bit harder I think by forcing you to climb one more tier to get to plasma. But I forget how they made it - if lasers are in between magnetic and plasma or if lasers replace plasma and plasma is a little bit better.

The new aliens (though I am running ABA2 so I don't get LW aliens undiluted) are great, I don't use the SMGs but I think a mobility oriented guy with them would be a solid choice.

The meat of it is the classes. In vanilla I loved grenadier because it felt OP as shit and now while grenadiers are still good they aren't do-everything. I am a little disappointed in gunner but I am coming from still remembering the high of the escalation gunners who were OP as FUCK but in a glorious way. Just the most obscene overwatch motherfuckers imaginable. I think it was like - "shoot once, shoot twice, you didn't move so go into overwatch mode automatically now you get to make 3 shots that thanks to not-created-equal and a scope have high accuracy GG no RE".

Gunner here, well - a spark or grenadier shreds armor better, a ranger does overwatch better. Continung next post

It's essential however to run the LW2 class pack with something that lets you go to 8 squadmembers, otherwise it'd be way too restrictive in how they've diluted vanilla grenadiers into grenadier/gunner, vanilla support into support/ranger, ectera.

One of the other drawbacks for gunner is the absence of the LMG (6 tile squadsight but you can't move and fire on the same turn) opposite the standard SAW. It's strange as escalation mod had that and featuring it would let you actually properly follow the two trees for gunner - machine gunner (LMG) or SAW (mobile). I'm not crazy about how traverse fire (double tap's counterpart) is one tier further from where double tap was in LW1 http://ufopaedia.org/index.php/Gunner_(Long_War) .No ready for anything for gunner in LW2 sucks since that was a fantastic perk in LW1

I don't mess with shinobi but someone told me it's crazy good if you melee-spec it. I won a major level one on a mission so I'm going to give that a try eventually.

If you run the LW MEC classes, and ideally if you also run the cheet that lets you actually do proving ground upgrades to your MEC (so they can, amazingly, get to carry a fucking utility item or modify their gun) then I love the MEC Valkyrie. Scope on the rifle, bluescreen rounds and that son of a bitch will shoot an enemy on his turn, go into overwatch, shoot 3 more enemies.

Early game enemies are ridiculous, I had a similar issue before I saw the light and switched to ABA2. LW Alien Pack is okay, I did two playthroughs on it. It adds some pretty interesting enemies, but I was disappointed to find there are no variations on some of the late game enemies. Personally I prefer ABA2 just because it adds about 90+ enemies, though it is wayyy harder, I've had to adjust how I play considerably because I got too used to playing without it.

But yeah, LW Alien Pack is fine, if you like it then definitley consider moving onto ABA2 for another campaign

It probably sucks in Impossible but I've had no problem spamming at lower difficulties. You can usually graze fighters enough to preserve the sats, and if you do lose them a replacement isn't that expensive considering you'll only need one every two months at worst. Just don't get carried away with the plane count, your goal is to skim off the top and down some scouts, trying to accomplish much more than that will just leave you with a big useless raven fleet that's costing you way more than you save on replacing sats.

Why is it that my X2 now crashes when I get to the main menu when I'm online? I can play fine if I disconnect from the internet but for some reason if I'm online I get XCOM 2 Has stopped working. It never used to do this, I think only in the past month or so, and yeah I've tried all the easy solutions like verify cache and stop it from accessing the internet

I think it's something to do with the EULA that appears on startup since it doesn't appear offline, any ideas?

If I had to guess, he removed ayy very efficiently causing panic mid way through the mission, some his guys got killed, so he gave targets for the ayys to shoot other than civs, and the smoke probably started to break los for the civs.
Also there was only like 10 ayys for the entire mission with 15 civs.

I still like the idea I stumbled into when just pontificating on an expansion thing. Though my concept would be a pretty cheap switcheroo of the MEC/Meld dynamic I think more smart people could design it better.

Idea was the side-upgrade of meld is now cybernetics a'la deus ex, the new class upgrade of MEC is now hybridization. Perhaps Valen discovers that using a human as a foundational template is necessary to control or otherwise make non-antagonistic the ruler experiment. Homo-Mutonus, Homo-Sectoidis, Homo-Serpentes. The former is a big guy 4u with an inbetween of the muton hulking frame and human build, some of their ridgelines on their head, slight hunch over ectera. Homo-Sectoidis is a Hybrid like Advent but from an originally human specimen rather than tube clone, homo-serpentes is Thin-mint style being lanky, able to stretch and bend unnaturaly with some dappled/scale like features along with snake eyes.

Homo-Mutonus carries the MEC heavy gun and its two ability trees are defensive vs offensive oriented. One idea I had was "interference" - if an enemy is melee-moving to an ally within 4 tiles of the Homo-Mutonus, the H-M 'distracts' the melee-moving enemy into attacking it instead (and gets a free Muton style reaction melee attack).

Homo-Serpentes could be a choice of mobility v utility, or utility/mobility v damage. Low protectivity, good aim, spit acid, able to move up walls. One ability idea was what I think the snake ruler has with being able to lasso a friendly unit into cover. Same principle here, but you could also have the H-S jump up to a roof and pull a sniper into position.

Homo-Sectoidis is psi-light with more combat abilities but less psi abilities. No dedicated MC, no vortex or psi lance. Ability tree chooses between psi-oriented (both damage and utility) and combat & utility. One ability was 'psi-flare', a flat aim/crit bonus against any psi-capable enemy.

It's a lot more extreme than meld was but it fits the extreme times call for extreme measures of being in the resistance and has the foot in the door with valen's experiments. And I feel like they have been working up the superhero angle more in Xcom2 than Xcom2012 with the aesthetics of power armor & the rebellious DLC and ruler armor.

Cybernetics would be more boring and just be like meld was, but with the addition of changing/unlocking visuals. If you replace legs or arms you get Adam Jensen style mechanical aug options for your limbs, if you do some ocular implant you get the same there. Standard fare - options like immunity to gas, no fall damage & able to jump up onto higher levels vs a flat mobility increase (or maybe a run and gun style ability with cooldowns), a spherical or cone AOE X-ray vision ability that lets you do a kind of narrower battle scanner (Could require no movement points so you can do it and have a blue/yellow move that turn), neural dampener to deny MC or panic (invalidates that inspire Psi-ability). Crazy idea would be "Skeet-shooter", ocular implant that allows you an automatic overwatch shot (if you have ammo and are not stunned/ect) to try and explode in mid air any solid projectile like a grenade or rocket.

A potential caveat is that one new advent unit could have bluescreen protocol. Which will make life for your sparks or augmented operatives fun.

I was hoping third faction in expac would be Terminator style AI but they already shot that load with Shen's gift and it'd be weird for Julian or not-Julian to come back.

Should have moved my grenadier up to freeze the second group since I already disoriented the King lid's group, but I had him fire a boltcaster shot (traverse fire) and then lay a proximity mine on king lid's group.

It's the standard destroy advent relay mission but yeah it's ABA2.

I will warn/encourage that impossible mode with ABA2, LW mods, 8 squadmembers, and others and even cheeting a little, is a pretty good replicate of classical/tier 1 LW1. The one problem is the 8 squaddie mod I used unlocks the last one at colonel and due to impossible mode's longer campaign length you get colonels ass-fucking-centuries later. So if you want that longer campaign but not to be gimped you can cheet by bringing the difficulty down occassionally just to promote one (or more) of your soldiers - then bring it back up to impossible.

I'd say classical mode or second hardest with ABA2 and LW2 mods and such would be better save that the campaign speed would still be the faster Xcom2 variety.

And I wouldn't run epigenetics (not created equal for aliens) with ABA2 or you get some full retard shit. Also Advent sentinel and archon overwatchers I forget the name are godawful bane of existence. The former once knocked out one of my guys unconscious with a free pistol shot (Wtf), kills two of my guys with high cover rifle shots and gets auto overwatch when they move without shooting. Or I think even that overwatch if all you did is shoot and not move.

Archon sentinels or whatever they are called? Well (next post character limit here)

Also it is just me or is Xcom2 resource hogging/memory leaking like SHIT now.

Archon "Sentinels" - do not seem to ever shoot. Instead, they overwatch. Covering fire overwatch. So unless it's a sniper of yours off screen breaking them from it you have to engage them in a duel. Oh and they have squadsight. On top of archon grade HP.

You can get a pod of 5 of them. I did.


I'll say this after that tyranid mission I was thinking I had reached the easy peasy level. Not yet, once I get power armor and plasma 'maybe'. Hell I save-scummed and restarted that mission because of the inordinate amount of bullshit.

Other LW feature of ABA is that it sure loves to have pods gang up on you.

Yes. Flashbangs are quite frankly invaluable with long dong 2. Grenade launchers cause them to do 1 damage, you get free FB perks for grenadiers, I think at a certain level (after you get plasma and research advanced explosives?) FBs can have a chance of stunning an enemy for 2 turns.

By the way if anyone cares - couldn't figure how to add a spark on its own, but using console commands I was able to add one by giving myself the mechanized warfare proving grounds project after gatecrasher. it was something like GiveTech MechanizedWarfare or something. The spark turned out to be too strong at this stage however and I'll have to restart and give ayys some extra oomph early game to compensate.

I don't think they're ever gonna do a TFTD style game. It's too different to the established formula of the new games for people to accept it.

At best we can hope for an expansion pack focused on underwater missions and horrors, though given the fact that it'd likely diverge hugely in terms of tech/maps/movement/etc. from standard stuff it'd either be a pain to spec for it or annoyingly shallow so you never had to split your resources too much.

Saw I had XCOM EW still installed on Steam, recalling I had Long Dong on there with a bunch of mods. Decided to play a mission for good times sake. I get to the launcher, click EW, and it insta-crashes with steam following up right away by rebooting the launcher. No error pop up or anything, clicking EW has me see steam's "Preparing to launch XCOM" screen not even a second later. Latest version of long dong if I remember, and there was no issue at all last time I played it

Just wanting to see if anyone else ran into a similar issue and fixed it somehow, because I'm not in the mood to revalidate files, reinstall the dong alongside its mods, and then configure the whole DCG.ini again

Carbines are pretty hot garbage imo, that -1 damage is just too rough. I've seen some people who like the battle rifle, +1 damage is nothing to shake a stick at. Some people like smg's for rocketeers, though personally I like them to still be able to hurt stuff without rockets, or they just slap them on rookies so they can go chase down meld. Marksman rifles are just really awkward, never found a good use for them. Shotguns are shotguns (amazing for anyone). HMGs are very strong in some situations, but can screw you over if you un-expectantly have to re-position. Machine pistols can be pretty fantastic on ranger infantry.

I've really only seen shotties on infantry for site reacon and terror mission 3 (zombie apoclypse). I give shotties to medics, scouts, assaults, and engineers. With scouts I like to give my higher aim ones a standard rifle since with low profiles and hit n' run they make amazing flankers since half cover is safe. Obviously if your medic has supression throw on the rifle, haven't tried them with battle rifles, but in theory since they get +1 to their mobility, seems like it could be good.

Rocketeers definitely can't handle the battlerifle imo, just too much mobility drain.

Thinman have 90 aim on impossble, I believe the alien carbine gives them another +5. The mobility stat is wonky, it's not tiles. I think it is like 2 mobilty=1 tiles but I've kinds forgotten. Main point is the the mobility stat isn't a 1 to 1 translation.
Odds of hitting is just Aim + height bonus + distance bonus - cover - (insert defensive perk here). The distance bonus often starts sooner than you might think.

So yeah, you've got a guy facing down an impossible thinman in low cover and you get 95 - 20 = 75% to hit (hence why you never get into a firefight with thinman. If you press F1 while targetting ayys you can take a closer look at the shot breakdown.

sure, it's not a sound strategic decision for them to exit cover to take shots at half cover on my hunkering guy, or to stand in the open while firing at full cover while flashbanged, but instantly killing my guy in half cover then instantly killing the guy in full cover by missing, making the reactor explode, really makes up for it

I know someone got at my throat when I brought up the 40k metaphor before, but I do so only because it's a clear cut obvious parallel. I think it's fair to say the big bad thing is something psionic or that psionics open the door to it. The idea of 'depths your kind can fall', 'true enemy', 'did not think you could fathom', the remark about their world being first to be consumed. Either there's some greater empire gobbling up aliens or there's some inherent risk of opening up a portal to godawful abominations from beyond the stars in psionics. Elders first experienced that self-caused holocaust themselves, then try and flee to find alien races to either serve as shock-troops (if not psionic) or the perfect avatar/champion to fight them (if psionic but able to be disciplined against it).

It won't be literally chaos, it could/would be rather just like the 40k's warp creatures or more accurately the apocalypse psi-goop. Another dimensional entity that wants to get into our world and uses undisciplined psi as the entryway.But doesn't require psi to stay or take advantage of our world the same way that psi-goop could take over non psionic aliens/humans. It may not be apocalypse 2.0 in that it'll be the exact same, but we're still on a trajectory for Apocalypse 2:

They can avoid tech-creep by having a mid game deus ex machina victory like the early game defeat in Xcom2012 to Xcom2. Xcom won with only predator armor and magnetics and maybe just discovering psionics (or didn't even discover it until the avatar-commander experiment).

Tech-game is now standard alloy body armor + gauss > power armor + lasers > bio-armor like Guyver/warframe and Plasma/Ion. Actually I'm surprised we haven't gotten bio-armor yet besides to an extent the advent rulers. Bio-armor is pretty cool

Play up the whole cityscape strategy gameplay of intrigue and diplomacy and espionage and such. It's still somewhat familiar to players in a way that fighting in the marianna's trench or on mars wouldn't be. Mind you I'd be happy with TFTD or space-based Xcom3.

Also if someone wants to photoshop one of the pics of the Russian assassination like pic related into EW Xcom operative and a dead eggsalt on the ground that'd be dope.

But yeah more I look into the enslavers I think that or an improved retelling/re-visual of the Apocalypse psi-goop as not psi-goop is the future. Yeah it's fucking stupid. I'll accept the free move of pod-activation because it's necessary to avoid brutalizing the AI, but it really forces you down the road of pure RNG. I still remember on the first campaign following release a case that showed me the AI Even knows where you are when concealed. It was a UFO mission so I was doing scouting, full map counting the number of patrols. After a certain time the two patrols joined up.

And began to march towards my squad. Until they were pinned to the very edge of the map in which case the two patrols sat there and refused to move unless I broke concealment.

I know "That's xcom baby" but sometimes that ends up being an excuse for maintaining obtuse and stupid design choices.


I need to try the "all pods activated once one is activated" mod. If I understand right it would make all pods into combat mode (seeking cover and such) once you break concealment. I'd be fine with ones and twos of other pods joining in on a fight rather than what I've been seeing more and more of a pod balls deep in concealment with no dark event "Advent more aware of Xcom/longer sight radius" being activated even though there is zero chance whatsoever they are in sight range.

Yeah that part is pretty messed up. It's because all the pods are anchored on your squad, so they always sort of patrol towards/around you. I know there is a mod that stops them from stopping their patrol.

To the first, think about it. The enemy always knows where your squad is if they know where one of your guys are. This means you cannot do any kind of wide flanking interception, you can't position for an ambush, you can't draw them back into a enfilading fire. If you had someone behind a building waiting to sneak up on them after concealment breaks, they already know it's coming. You try and bait them into following you with two guys on either side of the street ready to unbreak LOS and engage, they already know they are there.

It doesn't mean pure RNG but it really does put more of an emphasis on RNG by forcing you into a symmetrical face-to-face confrontation.

Right, you can ambush and such but it's severely gimped. I know there's inevitably some advantages that have to be given to the AI as it can never be a level playing field but some of the design choices to do so feel poorly served with some real unintended consequences.

Not to renege on why I understand there's the pod activation but I'd bring that up as an example:

-No precedence to the original (original had itchy trigger tentacles, not free moves)
-Caused the turtling overwatch issue, the predominance of snipers.
-Treating symptom and not disease of overwatch turtling led to the meld system (which was a good idea) and the timer system of Xcom2.
-While a timer system makes sense for certain missions to create a sense of urgency and speed, it was used like a cudgel for ALL guerilla ops and council missions and the UFO Mission so easily over half of all the missions you undertake.
-Timer system led to ridiculousness like "Oh your sniper is literally 1 block away from the LZ and it's the final turn? Too bad you lost them even though it's literally about 3 feet distance".

What ought to have been done is:
-All Aliens go combat-footing (seek cover) when concealment is broken.
-Orient towards last known location of Xcom units.
-Pod discovered by Xcom in the fog of war gets X itchy-trigger-tentacle attacks. Number depends on difficulty chosen, how many enemies in the pod can see the Xcom unit, and has universal overwatch penalties (even for overwatch friendly units). Not severe to the point that they never hit but enough that it's a gamble for you to advance into the fog.

Instead of the current "You got spotted now enjoy 6-12 new enemies dogpiling on you because you wanted to do something other than trench-shoot"

The original is such a fundamentally different game, it didn't matter that aliens had overwatch all the time because when a soldier died, it really wasn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
Cover doesn't even exist in og x-com, at least mechanically they aren't similar at all. You can't just take og x-com mechanics and slap them on the new game, that won't work.
I still have not seen a good replacement for the pod system.

The way I see it is the Itchy-tentacles would deprive the AI of the free move which often is what makes their turn's RNG to be so utterly lethal. They get to move in range of the rest of your squad, they get to freely move into positions that are opportune for them and not opportune for you (possibly getting a free flanking shot, or just getting a great angle-matters shot on you in cover).

You trade that absurd advantage to the AI in favor of a "high risk high reward" move into the fog of war. Instead of the entire squad being punished only the soldier that moves gets punished - this further encourages use of assault as the point man.

Further, the Itchy-tentacles would mean that you no longer get the pod dogpile. Let's say you move assault to do a flanking shot and activate a pod of 5. From their position on your turn only 2 of them see the assault. Your difficulty setting stipulates that half (or half minus 1) of the pod gets a free shot. This means 1 of them itchy shoots at the assault. The rest of the pod stays where they are in cover until it is their turn. Because you already broke concealment that squad knows where you are but hasn't moved to engage yet, so they went into cover that is good vs your position (as close to a perpendicular plane as is possible).

And "fog of war" is even a misnomer because it's not like this is charging balls deep into the abyss. It's literally "move 3 tiles to get a flanking shot on the enemy whoops you past by a window and now the pod on the other side of the building can see you - now they get to move the entire width of the house and flank you".
I think the pod system is fine, the free move is the inexcusable problem. If it was a short 4 tile or so move into cover it'd be one thing but instead it's a free blitz that basically means: "You only get to move your first soldier on your turn or you run the risk of an avalanche because you went a tile to the left instead of the right"

I'm still stuck on the "Free moves is more rng than free shots." If the shots hit you are in big trouble. And now every pod is always in cover facing you anyway, so you can't do ambush tactics except for the first time you break concealment (which you can change just by allowing overwatch from concealment). As far as I can tell, these changes just mean aliens will be taking free shots at me while always knowing my location and always being in cover like they were previously. Moving a guy late into your turn and activating extra ayys would still be just as potentially disastrous, except that now sometimes your guys can get shot immediately t0o.

The single pod that has caused me the most pain was 5 muton elites.

The worst thing i've encountered was getting attacked from all directions by a pod of a riftkeeper and 4 sectopods, 4 berserkers, 5 pyro troopers, a normal advent pod(officer, troopers, shieldbearer). I lost 3 colonels that day, and the other 5 colonels from my A team all ended up wounded.

to be honest you need to score harder faggot. Honestly I don't know for sure, PirateZ has so many variables, and so much changes between versions, it's hard to give specific advice sometimes. But considering you can skip entire terror missions and still get positive scores for the month, going on more missions and getting better scores is definitely a solution. Completing research also gives you score, so make sure your science team is pumping out that complicated stuff no one understands.

i don't know about alien resources, first time playing lw and i wasn't particularly good at the unmodded game either i think
i failed the mission on the first transport ship but succeeded on the second, i've shot down mostly every ufo until now when they started tanking a lot of shots and dealing a lot of damage, i haven't failed any other missions so far and have suffered seven casualties. the only ufos that didn't get shot down were very close to exploding when they got away
i don't have laser cannons on my ships, can't make them, just rifles on my troops
i use the balanced attack mode, i noticed that aggressive is super inefficient since my ship gets hit a ton, on balanced they don't go down so i figure it's good enough
i haven't researched any foundry projects yet despite having one, since they all look pretty useless so far, maybe i should get metallurgy and salvage though since it's guaranteed to pay off in the long run? i'm not struggling for alien materials or corpses so i can throw it away on anything really

So what your score is low and you get axed? Are you running missions where you get terrible scores regularly? Ignoring terror missions after you signed onto the alliance will take a shit on your score to the tune of 1000 pts per.

If you interrogate a lot of captives, your score should stay high unless you're getting really pounded.

Yeah definitely want to get those laser canons up on your interceptors asap, I'd say you are definitely a bit behind. Check the UFOpaedia Foundry section and go to the interceptor section. Start trying to work towards those upgrades (like armored interceptors) they add up to make a big difference. Unfortunately with basic weapons, interceptors usually have to go aggressive, otherwise they are too inaccurate to shoot down UFOs.
Long War airgame is just as real of a front as the ground combat, so view it as another part of your tech race, unlike in vanilla where it was super easy.
The Salvage upgrades are very good in the long run, though you may have to pass them up if you need the resources for projects that will give immediate benefits. Do try to pick them up when you aren't too strained though.

In Long war, carrying a medkit (unused or used) makes you immune to acid damage, removes the mobility penalty, and reduces the aim pentalty. A very solid item to counter thinman.

In Long War, acid only does damage when you take any action except for hunkering.

Finished another weapon, this time the magnetic version of the hunter rifle. Well, mostly finished, the scope needs some work. The barrel is all black and glossy like the advent guns, i figure that since Xcom is copying the Advent guns that maybe the finished version of the magnetic weapons would also look all glossy and neat, but in this case only the barrel is like that, in my head is because it's more sophisticated than the rest of the gun or something, shit i dunno.

Another idea i had was to make it all transparent and have like circuitry and shit visible inside, like some of those gameboys and nintendo controllers, but sometimes things look messed up when they're behind a transparent material and i didn't want to deal with the hassle. Maybe some day i'll make some transparent fancy gun.

Still have attachments to do, and unfortunately all the attachments for the magnetic rifle are new so they'll probably take a while.

Two shots per turn, auto-overwatch, it had some pistol shot that knocked my assault unconscious (not stunned, unconscious), aim is such that it'll drill someone in high cover on higher terrain. That was a fucking exhausting mission. Up until the very end I was just one blue move away from where I spawned because every pod just kept activating on me, in addition to the map-based lids. Then it was a retarded game of playing tag-chase with 2 codexes that spawned 2 that spawned 2 because I had used up all my flashbangs on I think 3 lid pods, 1 muton centurion pod, 1 elite muton pod, a 2 man pod of codex and sectoid, a 2 man pod of codex and some advent trooper, and a partridge in a pear tree.

First weak pod is down, similarly small unit of four elite advent officer (Kommissars and such) sorts advance on left flank.

Turrets can't hit broadside of a barn but volume of fire will help whittle down cover and make a killing field. Wipe out that pod, advance one next turn and get an elite general's pod with some psi-ops. FB em, don't manage to FB the general but get the other four. Lay down mine on general and two others, wound psi-op and sniper.

And bad news bears, get a pod of 1 viper and 4 of the real nasty overwatch archons moving in from the fog.

They won't likely advance and fire on me, but I'll need to disable and deal with them. I do have overwatch spark up on a hill with a shredder gun that might reach them, also a grenadier who should be nearby able to reach them too.

Looks like a well and true verdun developing, with their archons able to snipe if squadsight enabled, but anything they try and send across the road gets eviscerated.

Like usual, bullshit brings an enemy down to within 1 HP after overwatch spam from two turrets, 3 shots of overwatch mech, various other overwatchers. Turret 1 is kill.

Feng assault advances up to cover, gets shot 6 damage by overwatch faggots. Which allows me to lay down a mine to give them a surprise.

After missed shot broke cover, feng takes out last advent. Once he moves back overwatch jojo pillarmen will have to advance if they want to make any shots.

Instead they choose to hover at the very end of the fog and overwatch. Chance to reload and get ready. Reinforcement is Omen, my best and still training psionic (only used on one mission so far).

Used up FB grenades earlier, so may have to use my lightning reflex assault to draw their fire, advance and neutralize.

Next turn going to slap protection gremlin on him and draw their fire.

Surviving left pillar man advances:

Beep boop misses his normally GOAT overwatch
2 hits from cheeky-breeky rifleman
1 hit from grenadier on other flank and 2nd pillarman is ded.

In retrospect it will be tricky to advance on the pylon. Probably use diamond-dog-dodger to rush and activate the pod, then rush back. Unless I get a shinobi in my reinforcements who can be spotter

Pillarman #3 advances, 4 remains behind in fog of war. Reinforcement drops begin. One shot from beep boop spark 001, then killshot by chinawoman sniper on hill. Beep boop drops into overwatch mode for incoming reinforcements, as will rest of firing line.

Blown up car behind a bit the surviving pillarman causes damage to show up. If I am a cheeter that notices the meta then that means another pod is lurking in wait nearby.

Feng gets shot on run by pillarman but nothing too bad, mistook him for the lightning reflex one. (Worth noting while in vanilla lightning reflex was meh in Xcom2, with ABA2 it's really a good diea).

All pillar men down, nother reinforcement inbound. Mech and 4 elites.

Now comes showtime, advance on the pylon and activation of the muton and archon pod
