I wanted to do a web build originally but holy shit, the game ran at like 5 fps with web gl
I am too lazy to load the project and do the osx build (i already rared everything up and deleted the rest) and then reupload it, but if you are bored, you can easily compile the osx build yourself, since i included the whole unity project folder in the game download and i assume you have unity installed, so all you would have to do is open the project in unity and do a build it for osx

im not a fan of the eyes but the overall shape is better and the teeth look better. when i have a minute ill make those changes. i suppose i could add two extra colors and claim its the megaman sprite trick but i dunno. thank you anon.

also my original plan was to have the enemy be half exposed skull and half torn native american head since the level theme is kinda the native american's land equivalent in hell so if im still gonna persue that idea i guess im only half done. thats gonna take some work though. ignore how extremely shitty the drawing is. i cant draw for shit

It perfectly conditions one to enter a team where the team members are a bunch of lazy ass faggots who will do anything to do as little work as possible. It also teaches how one should handle higher ups who are faggots in the exact same way your team members are.

Once you have gone through military service, you are ready to work as a grunt in Ubisoft or EA.

>>162918795
Simply U -> Reset to a square texture map.
Then you downscale it all to tilesize (and use Snap -> Snap selected to pixels to make sure it's all aligned). That way, all UVs become equally sized squares, which you can move around. You still have to use Snap to pixels every time you move a square, but it's a pretty okay system to work with.

Thanks, I didn't know about the "reset" unwrap. By the way you can make it so the vertices always snap to pixels. UVs -> Snap to pixels check box. This way when you move the UV it will still snap to pixels

Are there any programming languages which can be turned into .exe files as reliably as one can do this in Visual Studio with C++?

I don't want Python since I don't want to risk devving a month and then finding out that the script freezer won't work for me for totally esoteric reasons.

I also don't want to use C++ and its game making API's, since C++ is not a software development language, its machine coding language which tries to stay relevant by being an unholy duct taped together blob of a monster. I don't care about "muh performance", I care about not having to worry about trivial shit like types and other pre 2000 AD hardware caused redundancies.

So far C++ in Visual Studio has been the most reliable thing I have found and used. But surely, there should be other reliable alternatives out there, right?

>it sounds like you want an interpreted language that does the hard stuff for you
interpreted? sure - whatever. It can even be a god damned visual flow mapping for all I care as long as I can actually make a (2D)game on it and as long as I can actually reliably convert the project it into something that can run on other people's computers without having to contract a Nigerian Price to go on an astral channeling journey to dispel evil spirits and forces from my code.

I personally love the stuff the guy does with manuals (like Shenzen I/O, TIS-100), however those rely on a certain style and aren't just Times New Roman size 12 black on white. My recommendation would be to include a menu, from where you can select between sandbox and a tutorial that limits the building blocks you have for a few "levels". Like, first tutorial only has "go" available and you are told to get the circle move somewhere specific. Whenever you introduce a new block this way, give a short explanation of what it does, then let the player figure it out. First few levels of TIS-100 did the same iirc.

>Are game design degrees a meme?
if you're on a scholarship and can opt into it, it's a potentially pleasant way to spend your time getting a worthless piece of paper from a college. I mean, they're all worthless, but in theory an engineering or Cisco cert is slightly less worthless, but the idea is they give you skills and you get the chance to mingle with or get introduced to people in the field to get a job after graduation.

It's up to how you rationalize it, whether they're worth it or not. But you're right in that you could make game just fine without college degree; my dad did his lifetime of computer career work from a business degree that just kind of segued into computers as he went, your favorite games haven't been made by degree game makers... yet

>when they're all destroyed he's open for attacks for a few seconds before respawning them
this does not seem fun, with how many there are, how fast they move, how many attacks are slung at you. I'd recommend spawning less each wave until he's permanently open, in a soft enrage in favor of the player.

>sometimes it's unavoidable. people will give me shit for this but I'm gonna suggest for you flash if you don't want to use something like gamemaker.

don't get me wrong here, pal. I would totally use UE4 or Unity or any other SDK's. Except that these are not made to facilitate the games I want to make.

From graphical standpoint, at minimum, a simple UI API (which could produce at least an UI similar to pic) would satisfy all of my graphical needs.

As far as I know and have tried, GameMaker, Unity, UE4 are made for graphics based games foremost. I would have to work against them to make my kind of games. I think we can agree that if one has to work against a tool to do smth, then this tool is not meant for that job.

>>162922264
Perhaps I was a bit rash with that - sorry.
Do you use GDScript? How does it work for you? How does that "strong typing" manifest itself in the code? I can get behind types that make sense as separate types (like for example a number and a list being variables of different types). But I cannot get behind types like god damn int, float, double, etc - they are all numbers, goddamnit.

Float if you need decimals, int if not, unsigned int if you don't need negatives. Most of the time, that suffices.

There are integers and floats. The distinction is important. You don't have to deal with signed / unsigned or double stuff.

In my little story of Bokube the animal that is the most addicting/tasty to eat is bokubes
you'll see tons of other creatures snacking on em

What sounds better for my games story main plot then?

1) Bokubes live in a safe part of Easter land but they select a bokube a month to give to other creatures to eat as a sacrifice and boku's GF gets chosen and he goes on a quest to get her back regardless of the tribe rule probably saving her from a massive fire bird thats trying to cook her etc

2) Boku somehow separated from the safe haven and the game is about him going through puzzle levels to get back home in the end?

Keep in mind I have no idea how im going to do cut-scenes yet. (I only want to have cut-scenes for the games opening and ending.

Again, >NYC Apartment Landlords

You want a closet in downtown NYC you better be ready to pay $1900/mo for it after a six month waiting period, you pay two months rent upfront before you even get the keys, and then you get to pay a premium. And then you also pay a security deposit. And then you also show some crazy damn renter's insurance. And then you show proof of utilities before you even move in.
That's after a full background check that you pay for as well unless you pay them a year's rent upfront.

This is literally statistically unreasonable. Most if not all estimates show that rent makes up at least half of a normal person's expenses, basically anywhere in the west.

>>
>>162926724

Not knowing that most landlords don't give a flying fuck if you call the cops on them. They're making more on those apartments than whatever damages you're going to threaten them for, sue them for, and ultimately settle for a fraction of. For a lot of those landlords, it's just part of owning 'the business'. That's what happens when you own a building in a city where people are literally reading obituaries to shop for apartments.

>>162926928
It is unreasonable. That's why they do it -- because they know people will put up with it despite it being unreasonable. Why settle for less profit when you can have more?

its simplicity itself.

if you are too much of a retard to know what your variables are doing, you can slap a function over the variable which removes the decimals.

This argument only holds water if you're using an untyped language like assembly. Dynamic types and defensive conversion is just slowing shit down if you "know what you're doing". You can know what you're doing and have a type system and lose absolutely nothing.

So, why should I bother with back-end abstractions like types again? And interpreter or a compiler would be able to optimize it much better for much less effort on my part.

Yet, you are the one who made that slope.

>With DarkBASIC you lose features, efficiency, you have to program in fucking BASIC, etc.
And in C++ and the like you don't lose features and developing efficiency?
Of course you do and that is why people desperately want to create alternatives to that. C++ itself even wants to become something else. Why else would it contain stuff like vectors, structs and overloading? These new features make it look like it desperately wants to distance itself from strong types while trying to keep strong types.

>The fuck?
you know, the kind of types that matter for the machine but ultimately don't matter for making front-end functionality. For example as far as front-end is concerned a number is a number but for storing stuff in computer memory, there is a difference between an unsigned int and a signed double.

Why should I concern myself with such things? I want to make functionality for a game. Optimizing at a lower level should be my concern ONLY WHEN I actually need it and any further optimization in my higher level language algorithms is not possible. ONLY THEN I would use C++. And if I can optimize C++ anymore, I will have to drop to Assembly level. But all that implies that I would have to have a game first.

>Actually types are very important for driving optimizations.
Premature opimization is the root of all evil.

>And in C++ and the like you don't lose features and developing efficiency?
>No, not really.
But you do - since C++ requires you to jump through various hoops while doing backflips to use even the simplest development abstractions that one can take for granted in higher level languages.

>I want to know the mental gymnastics you do to come to this conclusion.

So maths should just use the real numbers and not bother with naturals, integers, rationals, etc.?

>Premature opimization is the root of all evil.
Nothing wrong with it if you essentially get it for free.

>functions require their inputs to be defined in types
>haha, joke, you can circumvent that by overloading
Each overload is well-typed.

>a variable has to be of a certain type
>haha, joke, use structs to construct new types which will let you bypass that
Not at odds.

>you have to know the exact length and type of an array before compilation
>haha, joke, here is a vector which lets you bypass that
Use each when appropriate.

The point here is that you lose nothing with static types yet you gain a lot (documentation, efficiency, safety). Also the fact is very few game development tools use dynamically typed languages.

>So maths should just use the real numbers and not bother with naturals, integers, rationals, etc.?
You don't need variable types to be able to use naturals, integers and rationals. Why do you claim you need types so bad? Literally the only type you should ever need is "number". And based on that singular number type, you can base all your other edge-case types.
Gonna use a natural number? Don't simply do operations on your naturals which would make it not natural. If you cannot do that, make fallback functions to compensate.
Gonna use rationals? Use an array for that with the top rational being [0] and bottom rational being [1]. Write custom functions to handle operations with them. If you don't want floats as factors, use the same logic with individual factors like you would with naturals.
Gonna use strings? Implement your own alphabet class, which stores strings as arrays of alphabet indexes.

>Nothing wrong with it if you essentially get it for free.
Why are you not programming in machine code then? You are getting your speed for free afterall. Oh, right, there is no point in doing something yourself, which has been figured out a long time ago.

>The point here is that you lose nothing with static types yet you gain a lot (documentation, efficiency, safety).
If you want documentation, you can have far less abusive methods to document stuff. If you want code to be documented, program the IDE to give warnings whenever any variable, function, method or whatever is left undocumented. (UE4 blueprints do that to some extent). If you want to have the compiler to throw pre-compile errors for the exceptional number types whenever they are used wrong (like integers, rationals). Make it possible to assign an in-editor type-lables to special types of variables. And make the compiler go REEEEE when one wants to make operations which break that type's rules.

This is just what types do but if they're not part of the language then you're also eating the overhead of dynamic types and the worse optimization.

If you just don't like writing out type annotations, use a language with type inference.

For me, it's that I'm overwhelmed by all the things that the engine is doing automatically and that I have no idea what any of that is, what it's doing, and how. A default empty scene for example has a ton of shit in it. I actually like how bare bones Unity is because I enjoy writing the systems that I have to write for the projects that I work on and having total responsibility for their actions.

I'm also allergic to visual scripting, and I really, really don't look forward to the idea of straight up code having to be written in C++. I get enough of C++ at work.

All of this can be solved by just gitting gud of course, but those things have always been the immediate turnoffs that have prevented me from really getting my hands dirty with UE4. I blame myself and my stubbornness for not using UE4 right now.
>>
>>162938261
C++ is very good if you do metaprogramming and generate C++ code from another language for your own needs. You could also write a custom build tool to implement scripting and enhance the preprocessor and reflection and in C++ which is something I've experimented with.

The one thing you definitely do not want to do is writing in C++ as an actual programming language except to learn it. Nobody does that and the projects that result from such an approach are horrendous code monsters and unmaintainable.

let'em eat the overhead
their entire point is to create "conceptual" types rather than "hardware dictated" types. if you want to optimize the implementation, for fucks sake, go a level lower and rewrite it in C++. If you want to optimize more, go even lower into Assembly. If you want to optimize even more, go lower into machine code. If you want to optimize even more, go lower into custom building the hardware.

>If you just don't like writing out type annotations, use a language with type inference.
My original question indeed was - "Are there any languages with type inference that can be compiled into end user application(that don't require a separate install of third party stuff for the end user) reliably like it can be done with C++ in Visual Studio?" A high level functional language is one of the fastest (just behind C++) and safest languages out there. Syntax is rubbish, but it's an academic project to demonstrate just that.

There are times where it suffers from too many dots (get_tree().get_root().get_node("Node").do_thing() occurs more often than it should. Of course this isn't extreme, but the rabbithole goes deep) , but overall it is pleasant to work with. I have a problem with Keyboard Inputs in my GameMaker game. Could anyone perhaps help me there?
I have set up my up, down, right, left movement inputs already, and I also have set up a charge shot (hold down a key to charge up a shot, let it go to fire a bigger shot), plus on the same key for the charge shot, I also have a Slowdown shift key (focus movement to better dodge enemies etc).

Now, the problem is, when I either press up + left at the same time, or down + right, things are not working how they should, somehow.

If I already press one of these combinations, I can't start a charge shot, nor can I go into Slowdown movement.
And if I go into Slowdown movement/start a Charge shot, and then start pressing in these direction at the same time (afterwards), the player ship/character won't move in the directions I want.

Any help there would be much appreciated. Here is a pastebin with the stuff which should be relevant (it's not much):

I never learned C separately from C++ so that would be the first problem, given that I'm used to C++ features.

I don't really see what the advantage would be of removing OOP.

If you were to generate C code from a more abstract specification, you would basically have to implement that missing layer of abstraction yourself in order to code more effectively, which is the whole reason all those C variants were created.

I'm not suggesting that it's necessary to create a whole new metalanguage that compiles to C++ and could be used for various projects. I'm saying C++ is only really viable if you extend it to your own needs, so you may do pure code generation in advance, make a custom preprocessor, have Python blocks that expand to Cpp, but also write some of the important code in pure C++.

I've experimented a lot with those sorts of animation several years back, so my knowledge may be a bit outdated. In recent times they seem to have become really popular
.
There are multiple options that are all viable.

After Effects can do those sorts of things, but when I last used it there were certain plugins that made it even easier. The video you posted looks like it might have been done in After Effects. I assume many of these kinds of animations are made in After Effects. It's pure 2D content that gets animated with morphs or polygons, lighting like that is easy.

I don't think Blizzard uses After Effects for their 2.5D trailers though, likely just 3D software/custom stuff.

You can also do it in Maya or some other 3D software although that is a non-standard use. It is possible though and allows for much more complex stuff.

I think the new Moho software (formerly Anime Studio) could also do some of it, at least in the overview I saw polygonal deformation

Also you could just do it in-engine, but you would be limited to polygons and shaders, whereas a post-processing animation suite like After Effects is pure raster in software so has much more possibilities. Don't know about Apple options though

For a small-project (i.e. not AAA) I wouldn't think twice about using After Effects. Only when you need something extremely polished like a Blizzard Trailer would it be insufficient.

I've done such animations in After Effects and there are some important points...

The workflow for transforming a static 2D image into an animation through effects and deformation generally requires cooperation of the artist or at least some experience with painting in Photoshop.
This is because the process involves cutting a 2D image into a ton of little pieces (which is extremely tedious) and then, this is the important part, painting in additional parts everywhere because your stuff is going to move (and thereby reveal areas that are not in the original image)
Then you would put it all into After Effects and rig it. There are some plugins that are specifically designed for deforming and animating 2D content. I don't know if After Effects has some more native tools in the current version. The Puppet Tool is pretty powerful in itself, but has its limit (when I did it you had to do a lot of expressions and scripts to make a functional rig with it)
Lighting is pretty easy, and you could use particle effects which are very powerful.

It is tempting to try, but at the same time I'm dreading it so hard that it actually fuels my motivation for learning completely unrelated stuff (such as 3D). I have basically harvested my procrastinating tendencies as a resource.

Also, I was absolutely rubbish at math, and although I know that game programming doesn't really require much advanced math I can't help but assume that the same "dry" system-learning is going to be similar and just rape my dumb brain.

I've been secretly developing one for a little while and haven't told anyone. There's no one I can discuss this with and I can't find any community that would discuss it. (except maybe you guys)

trpgs are difficult to balance and design; also getting their game logic to work without making it hell spaghetti is a challenge in itself, especially when you're a gamemaker newbie who might or might not come up with some duct-tape-tier solutions and make the whole thing a huge mess that is prone to some really obscure bugs

Whenever I tried opening my eyes my vision would be blurred by those weird visions you get when you close your eyes. Most of my body was unusable so I yelled for my sister to help me but she just kind of walked away. Eventually I worked up the strength to walk on all fours still not being able to see but understand where in my house I was. I made it downstairs and I still couldn't fully wake up. And then I woke up

If you make a video game emulating a tabletop strategy game, yeah. It's actually easier, because you can include more numbercrunching without worrying that the players will get bored, since the computer takes over the 5k dicerolls to determine whether or not your landing boats will keel over to the right, left, or backflip from being hit by a single 9mm round at just the right angle 3 rounds ago.

Reading their (vague, broad and full of typos) terms of service, there are a couple of points they could probably get you on:
>you agree not to distribute any part of or parts of the Website or the Service, including but not limited to any Content, in any medium without YouTube's prior written authorisation, unless YouTube makes available the means for such distribution through functionality offered by the Service (such as the YouTube Player);
Questionable whether a browser within a game still counts as a browser.
>you agree not to use the Website or the Services for the solicitation of business in the course of trade or in connection with a commercial enterprise;
So you couldn't use the music as a selling point for your game
>you agree not to solicit, for commercial purposes, any users of the Website with respect to their Content
This confuses me but sounds relevant

There are definitely Garry's Mod gamemodes which stream youtube though.
Maybe it'd be on the owners of each video to take issue with their content being linked to.

Love doesn't work in a way that you see someone then expect something to happen. Life is not an anime where you confess and it's either accepted or not. These things (like a kiss, a hug, hand holding etc.) happen naturally. Maybe you should just move on. It sounds like she feels nothing for you in that way. tfw my project supervisor in uni told us to do pair programming and i got put with the idiots who even struggle to write an if-else statement
mfw the code ended up legit looking like someone had a seizure on the spacebar
mfw i later had to explain the concept of a stack ADT with pancakes and it took over an hour for it to sink in. keep in mind that this was during the 7th semester of CS

pair programming is a cancer and doing it with illiterates is worse than anything else ive done in CS

i wish i was joking anon, i have witnessed people pass programming courses without having a program that could compile, the only reason i think some of them have made it this far is because the leech on others since a lot of the stuff is group oriented.
a similar experience on the same semester i had was that 2 people were tasked with building a simple client application to query a database, two weeks after they had gotten the task assigned and had made no progress i had to take it from them and do it in the same afternoon.
these kinds of people are in for a shock if they ever get hired to do any actual development.

This is why they do pair programming. Because half of the students are idiots, and they want the other non-idiots to teach them. Then there's this 'valuable learning experience' for the more capable student because he learns how to teach daft cunts or something other excuse to let the students do the teacher's job for them.

Autism is basically OCD combined with anxiety, so just make her look down all the time like she's afraid of making eye contact because people might interpret it as defiance and attack her. Also make her overthink everything she says and always hesitate to express any kind of opinion. Poor hygeine is optional but if you go in her room it should be either too messy or too organized and have a bunch of objects in it with sentimental value to her.

Then it's not an "ECS framework".

Reading the README it sounds okay as long as you pick and choose. I'd stay away from:
>Scene/Entity/Component system with Component render layer tracking and optional entity systems (an implementation that operates on a group of entities that share a specific set of components)
>optimized event emitter for core events that you can also add to any class of your own
>scheduler for delayed and repeating tasks (Core.schedule method)

Here's a couple of things I wrote about my takes on game states and entities. Don't even think about that event bullshit, it does way more harm than good. The scheduler just sounds pointless.
http://boreal.aggydaggy.com/
>>
>>162956620
You misunderstand. You value your mother. That's normal. The stone is just a symbol for her and your memories of her. There's nothing special about the stone by itself.

Autism is liking the stone because of how it looks and feels, and having emotional fondness for the stone by itself, even if it's not associated with a person.

Methods hold the level data, and the level is selected via a switch statement.

Added a bunch of configurable delays to allow the kind of weapon launch where the guidance/motor ignite after a delay.

Launcher, missile, and guidance all got these delays added separately. The missile fire delay is the time after launch that the missile will fire its motor and starts up guidance. The guidance's delay is time between guidance starting up, and guidance actually happening. For example, this can be used to make a missile fly straight for a second or whatever, and then the guidance comes later. The launcher fire delay is an option on the launcher that override's the missile's fire delay.

The way initial velocity of a missile is handled was changed. There's now two of them, one in the missile and one in the launcher. Previously, only the launcher had one.

The launcher's initial velocity used to be a single float which basically "shot" the missile forward at a certain speed.

Now, the launcher's initial velocity is a Vector3 so you can toss the missile down or any arbitrary direction. In both these webms, the initial velocity went from 50 forwards, to 1 down.

Meanwhile, the missile itself now has its own initial velocity that basically just adds to the missile's velocity when the motor ignites. It's the same 50 that it used to be, but it looks weirder when you drop it the way it was in the first webm.

Webm related shows an initial velocity of 0. It looks way better, but it has serious drawbacks to the missile's lethality versus the launcher shooting it forwards. The motor spends all of its time just getting up to speed and so runs out pretty quickly, dramatically reducing its range. I would probably launch all missiles of this type (i.e. dogfight anti-fighter missiles) the old way without any delay/drop.

Delayed launches would look super cool (and make more physical sense) on much bigger weapons.

The missile initial velocity is mostly a gameplay thing. It lets me get away with weak motors that burn a long time while still giving them enough kick on firing that they don't have to waste all of their motor burn time just accelerating up to a decent speed.

This is all configurable, so if you wanted to create a missile with a really high power but short burning motor that then coasts the rest of the way, you totally could. There's all kinds of combinations you could go with. At this point it's a gameplay decision, but the tools are all there for whichever direction I decide to lean in.

That indeed looks way cooler. I'm always glad seeing your progress, you constantly do very good work.

It doesn't recognise the Gun array. You are apparently accessing Gun before initialising it.

I really don't understand what initializing an array actually means. I didn't do anything with the UnitInfo array, and that one works fine.

Vampiredev here. I believe this is the first time I get a fanfic about anything. Very cute and fun read, you did a great job.
I actually like your name choice a lot. Really fits her. Have a reading Elzie, you earned it

If you look at your UnitGlobals object in the Create Event, on line six, there is a reference to the variable "global.Gun". This is the array you want to use. However, with the way your code is running, the UnitGlobals object is looking for global.Gun, but global.Gun has not been set to anything yet. Before you can access the array, you need to have somewhere in your code a line that reads something like this:

global.Gun = ["shoe", "pistol", "clothespin"]

This way GM knows that global.Gun exists and has contents. In your code, when UnitGlobals is asking for the content of global.Gun, GM hasn't been told yet what global.Gun actually is. It is not initialised yet.

I have this:
global.Gun[1,0] = "Makarov"
global.Gun[1,1] = "Description"
global.Gun[1,2] = "Capacity"
global.Gun[1,3] = "Caliber"
global.Gun[1,4] = "Type"
>>
>>162963154
That may very well be, but

global.Gun[1,0] = "Makarov"
global.Gun[1,1] = "Description"
global.Gun[1,2] = "Capacity"
global.Gun[1,3] = "Caliber"
global.Gun[1,4] = "Type"

is not executed before

global.UnitInfo[0,3] = global.Gun[1,0]

, which is why it's throwing the error.
You need to make sure that the second segment comes after the first. Assigning your global.Gun values probably happens in an instance that is created after the object that is calling global.UnitInfo[0,3] = global.Gun[1,0].

Got it, I just had to drag the code snippets in a different order. Thanks!
