It's fun and pretty strategic and compared to some mobage, the gacha is decently forgiving. Many 3*s have long term viability, which is nice.
However, grinding characters up is rather a slog.
All in all it's a fair game. Hope the christmas event will be nice. Consider waiting a couple days and rerolling for Noctis.

I already have 2 5* bases in the forms of Lightning and Maxwell. I can afford to hold off in terms of banners since I have most of the good base 3*/4*s currently with the exception of Terra(WoL/Garland/Firion/CoD/Refia/Cecil/Bartz/Exdeath/Kefka/Vaan/Agrias/Chizuru/Tilith).

Bartz is a perfectly serviceable attacker.
Garland is on the average side, but if you need a physical attacker filler, he's your man.
Terra is fine. Dispelga, Arise, True Esunaga (actually cures Petrify), Flare, boosted-magic Dualcast Meteor mode (admittedly it takes up turn), she's a very usable 6*.
And Rain knows Full Break and has Cheer+Focus so he's definitely gold utility.

I'm not saying they can solo Aigaion but they will pull their weight, man.

He's not really Firion/Gilgamesh at all other than the different (worse) stat passives.

He's a hybrid attacker with one strong skill (the breaks are unimportant, they're the same as FB), some stops, and some status (but meido beats him there).

Doing the math on his straight damage, though, he's slightly superior to unenhanced gilg (depending on how much you whale). His best attack is only ST, though, so he does lose out on some interesting things

Supposedly he gets a new skill available (Point Blank Warp Break) as a combo move for using either his best skill or the shitty jump attack, so he could be way better than even that.

They give special buffs to character abilities, sometimes gamechanging.

Firion and Gilg in particular become monsters with them. The former becomes a great chain finisher, and the latter becomes the second best chainster in the game behind Onion Knight (his lack of imperil is his only downside, easily supplied by another unit)

They cost millions of gil to activate, and you also need event-limited gems to do it. Think like record diving in RK, except with 4* motes being even rarer.

Like, I was using a macro to farm before Missions were added, and I stopped TMR grinding overnight so I'd have nrg for missions. I tried tmr farming last night and my macro didn't work, figured it needed to be updated for all the shit that was added. So I grabbed it from that reddit thread about macros, installed it the same way, and still no dice. Thought it might have to do with the fact that I'm a few versions behind on MEmu.

I have heard a lot about chapter 13, but that's not it, there's apparently like two train sections in later half and pretty much nothing happens in them, you go back to open world by talking to a goddamn dog, characters die off screen, Noct and Luna don't have any actual relationship or scenes together safe for some flashbacks

Well, yes. Noctis never returns to the Lucis continent until the end of the game in actuality, and it would make no sense for him to travel there physically. So they added a cheap gimmick so people can still do sidequests and shit.

I'm seeing a lot of confusing comments about how Noctis 'doesn't seem that good' and I'm wondering if we are looking at the same toon.

He seems to be a massive power leap compared to all dmg dealers currently and his TM (regardless of missing 30%atk/mag) is Insane compared to anything we have. It's basically three TMs in one and possibly 4 if they ever add on his atk/mag.

410%dmg Break (ignore his 400% hybrids if you like if against ST)

680%dmg AoE TM plus More goodies?!?

800% dmg ult with Cecil's LB just added on for shits and giggles?!?

TL;DR - he's practically godlike compared to our current units...

In my opinion, it does, yeah we never knew anything about Stella but even that one trailer gave them more interaction than what Luna and Noct get. And after that timeskip characters mention Iris and Cindy/Cidney but they don't show up because (and mind you I have no source on this so I will go off from what I heard) that requires "character development". I'm not going to argue about gameplay, at worst it looks decent, but the story sounds just so bad

Here's the funny thing about the "fixed" gacha: The only units that get rarer are base 5*s.

4*s are fixed at 0.5% each. 3*s are fixed at 1.0% each. But base 5*s continue to cut into each others' odds as each new unit is released, regardless of rarity.

He synergizes well with them, but he doesn't replace them. It's why Altema rates him so highly, while Famitsu keeps him pretty low. Altema considers him an addition to chainmeta (as a finisher), Famitsu sees him as just a good normal attacker.

If we're talking about "Job" in the sense of FF jobs/classes like Knight or Summoner, Noctis' abilities do come from his royal heritage, so calling him a Prince would be appropriate. Although about an hour into the game the King dies so technically Noctis becomes the new King.

Being a Monster Hunter is your primary method of earning Gil in the game though.
