Hi
>>
Our first ship leaves the spacedocks and I can start exploring, and apparently Terrans were too dumb to invent telescopes previously as I had no idea this planet was a gas giant till I entered orbit around it.
>>
>>162762285
how is MoO 2016 compared to MoO2?

Still never played moo2, since I got so stuck on master of magic instead
>>
>>162762285
And here we have an anomaly, unknown signals from deep space between systems that you can send ships out to, functionally similar to goody huts except they spawn randomly so you can just have one appear next to your homeworld in the late game, makes sense honestly since space is big.

>>162762462
It's honestly pretty good and I liked it a lot even when it was still in unfinished early access. There's a lot of people who don't like it or certain things about it but most of those boil down to "it isn't a HD MoO2 therefore it is garbage" which is always a problem when a new game comes out for an old and well loved franchise. I'd definitely recommend at least pirating it to give it a whirl.
>>
>tfw we will never be /sgg/
Please wake up everyone, we're slower than /mggg/ and almost as bad as /eagg/ was
>>
>>162763178
First system fully explored and it's a alright. The three bars shown are fairly evident with size relating to max pops on the planets, biome being how habitable it is for your people and minerals being how much production you can get there. Gravity is also a big deal as high and low gravity cuck your production if you're not adapted to them or have gravity generating buildings.

Biome and gravity are kings early on since terraforming is a no go, later on minerals and size will start to be more important since we can just force a good biome onto the world then.

All things considered Jabbar V is actually pretty decent. and Jabbar III is alright with an economy boosting special there (gold) but a little too small to be useful.
>>
>>162764113
>jabber
Is this similar to Aurora?
>>
>>162764113
And here's our first space worker in orbit around the Alpha Ceti gas giant, we can only build harvesting platforms here now but there's a taste of things to come right there.

>>162764187
Having never played Aurura I can't really say but it's like a space Civ with unit customization. It just uses common sci-fi star names.
>>
>>162764526
And then we detected this on long range scanners. Big fat sack of fucking nope right there, that system is off limits for some time.
>214 defense rating
Even though it's weapons are shit this thing could chip damage an entire world to death right now.
>>
>>162765078
Our first colony, amidst the swamps and marches of Jabbar V the Terran race takes it's first steps towards becoming a mighty empire of the stars. The different cutscenes for different biome planets are quite nice, they're all similar with your races colony ship design swooping across the landscape and then landing, but they look pretty.

Also now I own this planet I can rename the system if I want to. Any suggestions?
>>
>>162765982
And wow get a load of this edgelord who offered to work for me. I think we can take him up on his offer for that juicy tech and production bonus.
>>
>>162766213
Oh fuck the Jews have turned up to take my money. Time to build combat ships.
>>
Odd, can't get MoM to run for some reason.
I think I played it less than a year ago.
Just turns black on startup. Possibly some setup I had to put in for the last dosbox game I played.

I'm surprised by how quickly units turn from "wimp" to "killing machine" in Dragonshard. Okay, there's only 5 levels, but still, a couple of levels makes a difference. And I like the idea of units being captains and gaining new units as they level up, it reminds me of Seven Kingdoms 2.

So here's one of my favourite things about MoO, tech choices. Some techs give you benefits that you have to choose between, do I want shields now or more accurate missiles? I mean I can get better shields further down the tech tree so it's not too bad and I can trade techs with other aliens or steal with with espionage to get the choices I didn't take.

It adds some nice depth and complexity to the tech trees without resulting in a pointless mess of shit like the Beyond Earth tech web.

Also just before this pic I got an event telling me the Antarens were back in the galaxy so I need to be on guard now.
Backstory, there used to be two precursor races in MoO, the Orions and Antarens. Orions were your generic benevolent precursors, highly advanced uplifting aliens all that stuff. Antarens are the type of Precursor that causes "used to be" to be part of the description of other Precursor races. War inevitably broke out and the Orions were losing hard and eventually discovered a way to throw the Antarens into a pocket dimension and lock them in there preventing them from ever fucking the galaxy up again. You know how this song and dance goes. The Antarens get locked away but war had taken its toll on the Orions who were dying out, their last act as a spacefaring civ was to build a super ship in their home system guarding their tech until another race was advanced enough to use it responsibly (re; advanced enough to reduce their guardian to scrap metal). And now it turns out the prison wasn't as good as they thought so the Antarens have an invincible staging point from which to raid the galaxy

Have your second city built before the first winter if possible, then use your capital primarily for producing citizens and thus settlers so you can keep expanding.
Wild Walkers are good for expanding quickly thanks to their industry bonuses.

Dude, the Huns are a Civilization, you can't trust them.

That reminds me of my pre-last Civ V game
>Be based Montezuma
>Huns keep asking me to join their war against Russia
>I refuse because I don't feel like attacking so early
>They continue their war for 100 fucking turns
>Russia settles 3 tiles away from where I wanted to
>Join forces with Attila, capture and burn down the new city
>Atila is pissed because I had a city near him and got troops near his borders
>Capture Attila's capital and second city
>Leave him in the middle of my territory and Russia's with half of his tiles in snow
That's why you shouldn't piss Monte fucking Zuma.

Oh, from same game.
>Declare war on Arabia because they got a lot of money and delegates
>Manage to capture one of his cities
>Realize Arabs are 2 eras ahead of everyone else
>Chicken out and stop the war
>The fucker keeps telling me I'm a warmonger
>Pay Washington to declare war on him
>Washington declares war on me because I left the Arab city I captured unprotected
>Ask Arabia for money in exchange of declaring war against Washington
>Anal rape Washington
Don't backstab Monte fucking Zuma!

>Discover the atom bomb
>Nuke fucking Arabia
Don't trust Monte fucking Zuma!

>the Aztecs- me- are the biggest empire around
>suddenly friendly nations in the unexplored south of the continent like Maya and Iroquois start getting gobbled up by the asshole known as Inca
>Americans are getting invaded by Inca so I step in and declare war on the Inca
>I have no iron but that's okay because I had the Statue of Zeus that grants good cavalry for free
>my legions of horses clash with the Inca again and again
>eventually the Inca begin gaining the upper hand because technological advancement and access to iron gives them knights and other medieval units
>search desperately in nearby islands off the continent for a free source of iron I can grab
>finally find a small source of iron on an island owned by the little Japanese civilization
>invade and take the iron
>suddenly an event I never had seen before or since occurs and the game tells me the iron resource is exhausted and it disappears
>quit because the Inca will certainly win against my pre-iron age civilization

Fuck the Inca

The AI just refused to expand. Ever. Even if they get retardedly lopsided starts the human players will outscale because they dont fucking build colony ships.

Also, invading IS waiting. Once you destroyed the doomstack of the empire youre targeting, it will NEVER be a threat to you again! Ever! All you will do is wait for the truces to expire and re-invade them for another 2-3 new and horribly managed planets. Hope you enjoy micromanaging boring and pointless blockades and fixing the AIs retarded shit like 25 food surplus planets or ultra rich mineral planets covered in labs and power plants.

Distant Worlds question here: Is there reason to impose limits is on colonization? I've been settling like crazy and so far everything seems alright. Just wondering if anyone knew as to long term affects. Pirates are somewhat more of a problem due to more targets to be raided. Troops have been doing a good job keeping a foothold on the colonies (even if their space ports keep getting blown up)
>>
>>162814550
Yeah, otherwise you spread thin.
>>
>>162814550
Challenge and/or immersion basically.

Playing with colony limits forces you to keep your empire somewhat bunched together, leading to regions which end up being "owned" by one faction or another.

Even with limits on you can circumvent it by settling low quality planets (and eat the constant loss) just to stake out an expansion.
The AI won't do that unless the planet has a special resource on it.

Playing without limits means the galaxy ends up looking like a dozen spiderwebs lay on top of each other.
Playing with limits means the galaxy end up looking like a load of differentiated blobs.

Pick one that makes you happiest really.
I like limits on, range = 2.5 It feels comfy

They managed to invent original droids for the Empire that aren't ridiculous. With the Rebel Alliance, they just used units that looked like they were out of Star Wars, but without considering if it made sense or not.

I like managing and building and it feels like my city is actually growing and expanding.
Wonders also look great and leaders feel charismatic and alive despite being huge cunts.

V is just ugly with Colosseums in the water and boring leaders other than your classic Alexander, Boudicca, Shaka characters.
>>
>>162818116
At least they made Jedi playable and *not* an instant lol-i-win thing.

I just wish the "aircraft" didn't just sit there, and looped about all over the place instead.

(these captchas are starting to get obnoxious lately)
>>
>>162818427
V could have avoided that if they had put a tiny bit of effort in and let the player position landscape fluff wherever they want (within certain bounds).
Instead lets have underwater stonehenge because reasons.
>>
>>162812329
because even though VI isn't that great, playing V again feels so fucking stale and shallow comparatively, especially after playing it for like 5+ years, and you can't really mod V that well so you don't get uber overhauls like with civ 4, so you're always playing the same standard game.

I need some advice with Endless Legend. If I want to win via domination, what kind of techs are essential? I start the game okay usually, but I think I fall begin to fall behind because I get distracted producing other things. I almost always prioritize Alchemical Alloys and Armor for research. However, how important is it to update your units with Titanium/Glassteel early on for success? Or is it more of a numbers game? How do you keep up the domination pressure if other civs turn on you for your aggression?

This is awesome!

I dont care if game copies things from others, as long as it feel right for the game, and for Stellaris this should fit right in.

The only thing I miss a bit now is something to make your race more extreme in one way or another like how different the factions in Endless Legend is.

Like give us a trait that let's us buy out tech or ships while crippling you in one or more other areas to balance it out.

Or maybe something for a hive-mind race where you dont have to pay upkeep for your ships but your ships are a certain amount of % weaker than other ships.

Give us something!

40k realspace is a pretty unpleasant place to live, it's no wonder why a place governed purely by abstracts and concepts is a fucked up nightmare.
Originally it wasn't as bad but then people started filling up the galaxy with the living, which turned out to be a big mistake since most of them were assholes.
>>
>>162836080
Yeah. The lore says that the chaos gods aren't exactly evil, that they're natural forces given a form.
But the same lore says that Nurgle spends 99% of his time making new sicknesses and trying them on Isha, and 1% of his time watching his nurglings. Which contradicts the idea that Nurgle is the embodiment of renewal and life.

Same with Khorne. He's supposed to be strength, honorable duels and fights. And yet his believers are named the berzerkers, and you can be sure that civilians are slaughtered by them, or that they consider that stabbing someone from the back is okay.
>>
>>162836680
If I recall, the Chaos Gods were originally supposed to be a bit more grey. Khorne was war and bloodshed but also strength and honour. Tzeentch wasn't just change and conspiracies but also hope, that kinda stuff. Then they mostly forgot about all that in favour of making everything more grimdark.
>>
>>162837024
>the Chaos Gods were originally supposed to be a bit more grey
Remove the "were". All the lore I saw points out that the Chaos Gods aren't the dickheads we know. Then again, it may be heretic propaganda, but I'm more prone to blame Games Workshop for fucking up their franchise.

No it doesn't, bacteria and viruses are life too. You can't have life without recycling the dead. His swamp is a veritable cornucopia of life, but the living are always in a state of dying, so it's still a nightmare.

Nurgle's entire concept has always been life, stagnation, and renewal. It's the old philosophical concept that Montaigne kind of picked on: Life is the process of dying. People who understand this, welcome this, respect this, and embrace the concept of their own death live happily. People who speak of 'dying' as opposed to 'living' are people who constantly run away from their deaths and are caught surprised when they die and filled with regrets about what they should've done.

I highly doubt they put that much thought into it though.

There's some

Only 3 slots and the weapon slot change a bit between heroes.

Dwimmerlaik has a Sword slot, so I can't buff her magical ranged attack sadly.

Sword slots work for Swords, Axes and Maces, and they only buff melee damage.
Axes also buff thrown attacks.

Some have Sword/Staff slots.
I think you can put axes into bow slots as well.

I can post more from battles when they occur.
took this a few minutes ago.

Attacked a city with 2 griffins, 1 nomad(race) priest, 2 nomad bowmen, 1 nomad halberdier.
I moved back the hero they opened fire on, then I used my heroes to fire down their priest.

Priests have a ranged magical attack, and ranged magical attack don't suffer penalties the further away the target is.
After the priest was dead I moved the rest of my heroes back and I used my ranger to cast stoneskin on himself to further diminish arrow damage.

When the nomad bowmen ran out of ammo, they sent out their griffins, once they closed in I opened fire on them I killed them. Then I flew(all my heroes fly thanks to magical items) in and killed the rest.

Since Lo Pan is currently in the void(another wizard conquered his capitol) he can't cast spells atm.
If he wasn't in the void he probably could've killed all my heroes with magic.

>It's 500 BC and I have an effective army of Horsemen and Archers

I feel like this mod fundamentally misunderstood the pace of Civ VI. The early game needs to be longer because the late game is already fucking SLOW. The important factor for the late game isn't the civic or tech tree costs, it's the fact that the amount of time it takes to finish a turn increases to ridiculous heights by the late Industrial Era.

Historical speed with regular production costs but adjusted growth and great people when.

>We exchange open borders, and I take a look at their territory
>They have Industrial Era units while I'm still struggling to figure out what walls are
>Yet I haven't seen a single Campus in exploring half of their cities, all they've got is Barrier Reef

Would Immortal difficulty account for this bullshit? It's basically impossible to assault any of their cities because their city strikes and units kill all of mine in one turn.

I'm not kidding. When Bioshock first launched, you were required to confirm it online (which fucked me up since I didn't have Internet back then), and you could only install it three times.
It was raised at five times, later, but it caused quite the uproar.
>>
>>162863221

You just need lab planets with research ships assisting. Literally just choose the planets with the most tiles, get some +bonus research races in there and fill that fucker with labs. Mind the modifiers too, once I managed to luck in a planet with titanic life and that physics modifier. If you have tomb planets and uplifted, not-prole roaches or syths those planes shit physics. You can do the same with stone age primitives in reservates. Ship assist is huge and helps level up and diversify your scientist lineup.

Also, its a 4X game. You never stop expanding.

You should try reading those big blocks of text in the manuals or when the game starts some times, they tell you basically the same thing the steam TOS does: you don't own shit except for that physical disk/cartridge, all rights for the game belong with the copyright holder and the sale of the disc/cartridge is part of a limited use agreement where you are permitted to play the game on certain systems.

Is COH 2 a good game?

I want to try some real turn based games.
>>
>>162922876

I remember owning both as a kid.

1 is something special, I fucking loved the small scale start, the RPG elements, all the little prescripted events, the storyline(even with the obvious TWEEST) and the beautiful hand-drawn planet view which was very impressive for the 90s. I really felt like I'm building nice places to live with parks, temples, fire stations etc.

2 was a bit bland but it wholeheartedly embraced the whole space opera thing with questlines like marrying a cyborg pirate princess, literal space jews and stuff. It also had a really nice soundtrack.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGupAsFUsps

I would recommend getting them both on the cheap, youre guaranteed to get your money's worth back

If you want real-time strategy, there's Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. It's pretty straightforward (laugh.mp3), and pretty much a reference.
If you like old games, there's SEVEN KINGDOMS 2, a personal favourite of mine.
If you like space games, there's Distant Worlds, but it's more 4X than RTS.
Otherwise, depending from your tastes, Cossacks 3 (through I'm getting disappointing by how that game is turning out), The Command and Conquer games (Red Alert 3 or Tiberium Wars, NOT Tiberium Twilight).
If you like weird games, there's Battle Realms, AI War, American Conquest...

It really depends from what you want. Do you want a straightworward SF game? A fantasy one? An unorthodox game?
>>
>>162923475
I could never get into 1. Don't know why.
But 2 was just 'right'. It is mega cheese with pewpew everywhere and that soundtrack.

I was thinking about Red Alert or something similar to that.

Based Anon you have given me a list of great games to try. Thank you.
>>
>>162923450
Aurora is the kind of thing I want to love.
But I can't because it's just way overcomplicated.
I really can't be arsed designing individual components, then designing ships with those components, then keeping all the maintanence schedules straight, THEN making sure nothing runs out of fuel.
Fuck all that.

The most fun I had with Aurora was turning off aliens and sandboxing the solar system until literally everywhere was habitable.
Terraforming is pretty comfy.
>>
>>162924394
It heavily depends from your tastes, mate. If you don't mind 2D sprites, there's Age of Empires 2 (now HD on Steam), Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (same thing but with Star Wars sprites), Cossacks Back to War.

If you want a 3D engine, Supreme Commander Forged Alliance is a classical. And by now, you can pretty much run it everywhere.

>>162925313
Because you're making these worlds their tombs.
>>
>>162924846
>You have to get organized when you play Aurora.
The trouble with that is: It is work.
As in actually requiring effort while not being at all interesting or rewarding.

Some people might like that, I'm just not one of them.
If I could turn off all the maintenance stuff and not have to design literally everything from the bolts up, I'd probably enjoy it a lot more.
>>
>>162925383
But why would they even MOVE there?

It's a death-world to them!

They've got, like, 55% habitability there because of a tech option, but they can't possibly enjoy it.

I'm just going to have to load back and disable migration, I suppose.

Sucks, but that's all there is to it.

Though, I suppose that I could just terraform all of those planets so that they're more welcoming. That might be better, since I'm not playing as a dictatorship.
>>
>>162926002
You can also Kharak these planets.
>>
>>162924165

Differing tastes I guess. I really liked being just dinky little sector commander at the start of 1. Rebuilding planets, doing little quests like breaking up pirate gangs, meeting shady fucks at your ships cantina etc. Just the day to day business of running a segment of a great empire. It gave weight and a sense of scale to the game when you finally got to command the entire human race and make interstellar total war, bombarding and invading planets back and forth, destroying ships by the hundreds when at the start of the game a single destroyer was a significant garrison and you spent hours peacekeeping that little sector of three planets.
>>

You can at least get a limited demo here:

It's a 16 bit program though, so it won't run at all on a 'modern' OS. You'll need to run a win3 shell or something similar. (I did this through dosbox)

And yes, you can play against the AI, and it's fairly decent.

It got better. I bought it for $10! It's fun to eplore and the missions are just like TES, so it feels like a TES game. For $10 that is a steal. The main difference is the combat is different. Not better, not worse, just different. It has a lot of MMO like abilities that you simply activate and the actual melee combat feels kind of meh. Also the PvP is fun, especially defending a besieged castle. It took me over 100 hous to play through just one faction's quest line, and there are three factions. That's a lot of content.

Hey, so how do I fleet at stellaris?
I've got a 15k ish fleet but I fitted them for crystal extermination (railguns, torpedoes, and lots of armor/no shields) and this is my first serious playthrough.

I'm done with the crystals but I reckon I'd get raped by anything else.

Also, rate my technocracy we're peaceful xenophile materialists and I'm in cahoots with those two smaller empires south of me, however I don't think the fed will ever get to 4 members :(

>>162954681
Now there's a good idea.
I haven't played it much, but I've played it long enough to know it's a great game that deserves an updgrade.
>>
>>162966670

Battleship space dreadnoughts with all large guns. Use kinetic batteries, maybe mix particle/tachyon lances in. If the stack is large enough they'll cripple everything in a single volley and because of the AI retardation they will never be able to rebuild. If you get outtclassed by something just use all-medium cruisers with stacking defenses and close combat computers to absorb fire.

Fleet layout pretty much doesnt matter because how passive and stupid the AI is. You can literally just sit on your ass and tech up to kinetic battery batleships and pure energy/mineral planets covered in level IV-V buildings to support them with impunity. At the very worst you just become a protectorate and it takes longer before you take out entire federations in a single war.
>>
>>162966670
If you don't conquer the Commonwealth, someone else will. War is a dish best served often, and for those who refuse to cook for themselves.
>>
>>162967571
I actually was thinking the exact same, they're xenophobe militarists and have been bullying some friendlier guys, so they've got it coming. Gotta have to disassociate them since they like me for some reason and I let them hang out with the fed in early game.

I also have to update my fleet so I can't do it right now, but it's right next on my priority list.

>>162967570

Don't have any of that yet.

Should I bother with corvettes?

I've got like 60 of them, should I disband them and go destroyers and cruisers only?
>>
>>162968423

Dont disband anything, they will be useful meatshields eventually. Eva corvette spam is not viable anymore.

If you dont have cruisers/battleships you dont need to buildup and war, spend the energy/minerals on colonizing and correctly setting up planets before kicking them off to sectors. You can easily sit on 1-.2 or even 3 planets over the core limit with no trouble if you dont have to maintain a fuckhuge navy at the meantime.

You dont even really have to research reactors, shields and the like before that. You need domestic upgrades, robots(dumping extra energy) new power plant and mine levels, orbital hydroponics, research AI etc, much more.

Also, NEVER stop expanding, its a 4x game.
>>
>>162966670
>how do I fleet
M plasma cruisers with a single L kinetic battery. Point for point they outgun literally everything else in the game for generalist purposes, the exception being certain techs only obtainable through crises. Other fits can beat them if 100% tailored for it but in doing so they usually open up a major weakness that can get you wrecked. Full L slot battleship spam for instance would beat them with heavy losses but would get shit on by corvettes in worryingly small numbers due to being unable to hit them. It's worth adding some PD fit destroyers. Later on you don't even need those since you can put flak cannons on the regular cruisers.

A bit late for that but it's good info anyway, thanks, I'll do that next playthrough.

About the commonwealth, is liberating and federating a good idea or should I enable unrestricted wars?

Cause literally all of my pops are space hippies so they'll all get pissy if I enact that reform.

>>162969501

Ok that sounds doable.
>>
>>162969746
Liberate is very strong.
>>
>>162969746
Just remember that FEs and crisis fleets cheat with ubertech and have fits so massively tailored for one particular thing a generalist fit falls a bit flat there so refitting for those is definitely worth, PD spam is practically mandatory for the not-tyranids for example and the unbidden are like 99% shields so fitting for shield damage is very worth.
>>
>>162969979

Aaaand my fed won't vote for disassociation on him, gonna try rival/border/insults.

>>162970003

Epic, thanks.

>Tyranids

That sounds like a lot of fun. Would making defensive armies at this stage be a good idea or are xenomorphs just all around better?
>>
>>162969746

There is no real difference between peacenik and warmonger lategame. If you can befriend someone he will be friendly from the start and if his personality is shit then you cant do anything but prepare for war.

lategame goes:

>warmonger
>beat the target and its entire federation, allies and guarantors to reach 80-90% warscore for 2 planets
>wait 10 years
>repeat

>peacemonger
>beat the target and its entire federation allies and guarantors to reach 80-90% warscore for 3 planets
>hope the newly released empire is close enough to diplovassalize, otherwise some other empire will snap it up instantly
>wait 10 years
>wait 5-15 years to diploannex it
>further 5 years to unfuck the AI planet management

>peacemonger with federation
>same thing except wait 20 years between its your turn to declare war

>>162970003

Most of the time your kinetic artillery doomfleet will just dumpster everything with its range and initial volley. I fucking dumpstered a prethoryn invasion with about 100k of them, even when they invaded on the other side of the invasion. I had living metal and regeneration special modules fitted. Sent out my navy and destroyed all their 60-80k fleets in detail. Just jumped into the system and let them come to me and get bombarded to pieces even before they could do anything. I won several battles without losing a single ship.

I had an awakened FE shitting on me though, I just peaced out with it and let its AI go after weaker targets while I leisurely spent a century building up my fleet and infra.
>>
>>162970343
Defensive armies are a waste of time and will be until they drastically change the shallow as fuck ground combat sadly.
>>
>>162970498
Good to know that xenomorph army I've been building to reclaim a planet from angry titans won't be single use.

>>162970354

So I did the thing where I rivalled the commonwealth and now we have a 10 year truce, it's ok tho since literally everyone else hates them, let's just hope they don't get invaded before then.
>>
>>162970498

This. Just use pure xenomorph/space marine armies with xeno cavalry additions. 12 is the max you can land and you rarely need more than 2 armies.

>>162970917

The AI never invades or annexes eachother outright except if its an awakened FE. At the very worst they vassalize or turn them into protectorates.

Also, dont be in federations unless youre roleplaying. The AI is stupid, useless, drags you in pointless wars(humiliate, stop atrocities) that cause ceasefires and refuse to follow on actual, beneficial wars. Plus federation builders are almost always peacenik fucks who barely build armies and cant even declare offensive wars alongside you.
>>
>>162971283
I'm going for a federation victory so yeah.

These are the co-founders, not peaceniks and are apparently equivalent in force to me so hopefully they'll make themselves useful.

Forgot to attach cavalry thanks for reminding me.

Better cheese out federation victory in a small galaxy by spamming colony ships if you really want that for some reason.

Also, AI strength doesnt matter. Once you have 2-3 well set up mining planets you will be shitting battleships and every non-FE AI will drop to "Pathetic" Even their tech gap is easy to close, you can just salvage the wrecks and choose what do you want to research.
>>
>>162972051
I think I do need that 4th fed member since the bar isn't filling out with the 3 of us (that's how federations work, right?).

Also, I'm outputting 200 minerals per month wich should be enough to make 1 destroyer every 1 or 2 months, gonna see if I can get it higher than that, it's gonna be a pain in the influence to take planets away form the AI so I can set them up properly tho, I had already formed 3 sectors before I came here.
>>
>>162973036

I cant even recall how federations work, only bothered about twice with that shit.

Dont waste money on destroyers. Youre only on 5 planets which means you can be over the limit with 1-2 more and propely set them up Start colonizing or upgrading existing buildings. I didnt see any research ships assisting your lab planets either.
>>
>>162973418

>I didnt see any research ships assisting your lab planets either.

That's a thing?
Fuck, I had two more from some vassal integrations but I disbanded them since literally nothing else was left for them to explore.

Also, regenerative hull tissue or crystal-forged?

I've already got crystal forged, but I just got a materials scientist from reassigning science boys to science ships so I might as well if they're better.
>>
>>162973985

Crystalforged is usually better, unless you want to fight some real extended operations like going around and destroy every spaceport of an entire federation or an awakaned FE. But even then simply absorbing the loss of a couple ships and using crystalforge is very likely superior I'm too lazy to do the napkin math because most likely it doesnt matter at all.

Having pure lab planets, preferably with modifiers or specializies like stone age primitives, tomb worlds, titanic life etc assisted by scientists is crucial in keeping up with tech. Its also a great way to store extra scientist for switching out and still provide them with a way to level up.

They already asked me once if I want to submit and I told them to fuck off. Now it says they are VERY likely to attack me and destroy me. What can I possibly do in case of attack? I have 900+ naval capacity gauss canons, havoc missiles and the best shields but it still says Im technologicaly pathetic compared to them and I suppose even if I reached my naval limit I still wouldnt be even close to beating them in combat.

And even through the AI was massively improved in Forged Alliance, it's still not that bright.
This is the standard AI.
Yes, it's getting shot.
No, it's not moving.

Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Universe which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. Good developers have not been proven not to exist, therefore they must exist.

I'm not fond of the pathfinding either.
Not like Dawn of War is any better (as soon as you add vehicles to an infantry blob, it becomes a mess), but the pathfinding in SupCom is just atrocious, because units move by group, instead of all moving at once. If the terrain is a bit shitty and you have to walk up a bottleneck, you can be sure they'll stop, turn around, then turn again, and start moving again.

It's a bit better in space games, but that's because there's no terrain in these.
Games featuring nebulas, asteroid field and other hazards in space are pretty rare.

doesn't stellaris have both nebulas and asteroid fields?
they don't do anything though

Not on a scale small enough to complicate battle. And give how battle work, the pathfinding is hardly a problem. Except if you use hyperlanes.

You can try it yourself : no tutorial, Angry Marines aren't playable, and when I tried to bombard a tyranid feudal planet (yeah, I don't know either. Maybe it was CKII with hive lords), it crashed.

>>
>>162990861
Let me paste it from the article.
>Changing names to dodge the Inquisition GW Lawyers
>In August 2015 it was announced that the game would be renamed to Interstellar Army Simulator 2015 to preemptively fend off legal trouble (read: a GW blackshirt who had grown fond of the game accidentally mentioned its existence where his boss could hear him and nearly got fired when he tried to explain why GW shouldn't send a C&D order to shut the game down). Other copyrighted terms and graphics will be removed as well, but the game will be made with "unofficial" mods in mind that could easily restore the original graphics and terms as needed.
And later.
>REBIRTH 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO
>Some time ago, a dude by the nick of Journier is currently doing the project now along with Thy Reaper (since 2nd October 2015). Debugging, cleaning and etc. to make it more easier to update (and make it less prone to crashing).
>Chapter Master 2.0
>Chapter Master 2.0 has ceased all development. Flow on the Bay-12 Chapter Master thread (page 218) stated that they no longer have the time to work on it due to freelance work, afraid of GW lawyers, and his disdain that no one will play it if he doesn't make it "blatantly 40K related."

So here is Earth on 1st January 2000...
World is getting tense, prospect of global Nuclear winter is once again probable..

Sino-Soviet split never happened. After the deaths of both Mao and Nikita Chruschev in 1966, both countries were pulled together by the charmistmatic leadership of a Iwan Nikolaievich, half russian-half chinese Party member, that was elected the First Secretary.
Formation of Sino Soviet Union prompted the the NATO countries to really bond together under the leadership of USA. Japan, Israel, South African Union and Australia were also invited to become a member states which they promptly did, fearing the global communist behemoth.

Africa and huge part of Middle East was united under the mysterious figure know as "The Prophet". Hailing from somewhere in southern Sudan, this man managed to capitalize on African resentment against both capitalists and communist due to their proxy wars and shadowy back door dealings and instituted the most hardcore version of islam over the almost entire continent.

Last but not least - South American Alliance is the loose alliance of all South American countries run by various military juntas.

TN technology was discovered in 1992 - a unseen side effect of Space Race that continued well into the late 90's.

By 1st January 2000 - almost all of Earth industry is converted to TN standard and countries start to arm themselves for inevitable war ...

Most well known Steve's ( this game creator ) campaign had them eight of them, all controlled by the player ( US, European Union, China, India, Islamic Alliance, Japan, Russia and South American thingy ).

You can find it on Aurora 4x forum in great pdf version for download.

8-Bit Armies is sort of a modern Command & Conquer clone. Launched with only one side's campaign, you can buy the other's as DLC (it's free to use as a faction in MP though). Also co-op campaigns that are harder than SP.

It's lacking the personality and story of C&C but it's perfectly fine as a game to scratch some RTS itch.

Not sure on the other two but they look like take-offs of Warcraft and Starcraft, and I understand that if you have all of them you can play as any faction from the three games in a special mode.

Just so you know I'm not sure if the game would make them the same species.
The UN Of Earth and The Commonwealth of Man are always considered the same species when they both appear in a game but they're pre-made Empires.

I haven't tested it but I don't think using the same name, traits and portrait for a species will make the game think of them as the same.

How would an Individualist/Xenophobe empire work?

I'm thinking the alien slaves would be a good boost to the economy.

Do sectors handle slavery more intelligently now?
>>
>>163048179
Just go with Collectivist and only enslave/purge aliens if you want to mess around with being xenophobic.

Collectivist has better overall bonuses.
Xenophobia's can pair well with Militant's though but you'll need to always make sure you're not an easy target for all the empire's who you're pissing off since you can't rely on alliances and shit.
>>
>>163048179
>>163048434
>I've tried a few play throughs with this ethos and it's really an economic powerhouse. Right now I'm a Fanatical Xenophobe/Individualist Mega Corporation. The fact that you can use slaves while getting the benefit of the Individualist bonuses may be the hidden power of the Xenophobe ethos. On top of that it's also a happiness build because Hyper-Entertainment Forum + Monument to Purity = + 25 happiness. The political malus of the Xenophobe ethos is counter-balanced by simply making energy credit donations to other empires' "charitable foundations" for diplomatic bonuses. I've had no problems keeping alliances and I have resources spilling out everywhere even at fleet cap.
>>
What does 'xenophobia' mean, as a pop modifier?
>>
>>163049851
It means that aliens aren't welcomed.
>>
>>163050154
So, xenophilia gives a -% to xenophobia.

Does that make your pops happier in a diverse environment?

Because, if so, I'm thinking that Individualist/Materialist/Xenophile would be a pretty strong combination -- if not for Xenophile not allowing you to, ah, 'incorporate' primitives into your empire.
>>
>>163050358
I'm not fond of Individualists ethos because of the research bonus to autocratic materialism.

>>
>>163050892
Could you explain, please?
>>
>>163051096
You can't go with an autocratic government if you have individualist ethics.

Stellaris really should abstract populations more. The per tile resource output adds too much tedious fiddling and the importance of controlling your population directly ensures individualist will never be balanced with collectivist.

To be succinct, it's a Lovecraftian love-story with time-warping implications that this extradimensional being, which you're only just now encountering, is somehow responsible for the evolution of your species. Through the course of the event you can have your species revert into an altered, enhanced version of itself, from which your current population degenerated.
>>
>>163053639
Why Tomb Worlds though?
>>
>>163053734
Your homeworld's sun becomes another black hole, and all of the 'solid' planets in your home-system become tomb worlds as a result of the transformation.

If you're playing in the Sol system, that gives you another ten planets to colonize.

If you make multiple empires with the same portrait and the same planet preference and traits (ordered in the same way) then the game considers them "kind of" the same species.

Empires will greet you as fellow [species]
Fanatical Purifiers don't actually seem to mind you and the "alien overlords" happiness modifier is reduced from 10% to 7% and so on and so on.

Species will still be listed as seperate entries in the demographics pie chart and species list tab though.

I hope somebody creates a good sci-fi 4X again.

I'm actually one of those who liked what they where thinking with Beyond Earth even if the game was pretty lackluster.

How the tech tree was branched to let you go wherever you want as long as you had researched a tech close to it compared to Civ in general where you have to follow a line.

The unit upgrades was fun too. (I know they added the same thing in Civ VI but Civ in general has some of the most boring tech trees (Except for BE).

I've tried Pandora: First Contact but it feels kinda bland.
Alpha Centauri feels very dated in the eye candy department by todays standards which is kinda off-putting.

Galactic Civilizations III is good though if you look away from the not so good looking planetary management.

I also love Stellaris but it's a whole different game than BE, AC and P:FC which is the place I feel we need a good 4X sci-fi game again.

I'm only listing multiplayer games because that's what I feel most people are looking for.

PS. THESE ARE MY OPINIONS.

EL as the best turn-based 4X fantasy.
Stellaris as the best real-time 4X space game.
Sword of the Stars as the best turn-based 4X space game.
Alpha Centauri as the best turn-based ground based 4X sci-fi.

So I feel we need something like Alpha Centauri.
I know people will sperg out that I dont mention MoO2, but the game is very dated.

My understanding is that /gsg/ is a general for a very specific group of games decided by the autists that reside within. /Civ4xg/ is a general for most of the games that don't fit the specific criteria of a grand strategy game. Criteria that is determined by /gsg/.
