The problem with 105 Tiger is the horrible stock ammo.

Once you get past that it's pretty good, with the capability even to frontally penetrate some post war tanks.

Also aside from 229 you can bring the Cannonado. I prefer taking the 262 over Horten desu just to troll bombers.

Tier 1 Yanks actually do quite well due to their quick tanks, good RoF and good penetration values (for the tier) on their tanks.

Tier 2 starts seeing a decline in their effectiveness. That said, the Shermans are actually quite good if you angle and try to abuse your excellent gun depression and fairly good cannon. With the buff to APHE the 75mm is a brute when it pens at Tier 2.

Tier 3 past 4.7 is where the pain begins. APHE buff means the 76mm is excellent but you are constantly pitted against tanks with better long range firepower, better armor and, with the POSSIBLE exception of the M18, better mobility and speed. The Sherman cant take hits from panthers or tigers and god forbid you fight T-34-85s or IS-1s that dont come at you one by one. This is about when most players start swapping to flanking tactics, which is fine until you realize that if your whole team is flanking there's nobody holding the center which just means the flankers dun get flanked.

Tier 4 is hell incarnate. Unless you fork over cash for the T29 or M46 premium tanks you're using tanks that perform horribly for the meta at that point and can hardly penetrate frontally what they end up fighting every match. Stock grind at that point means you're stuck with pure AP on your 90mms until you get the M82 'nuke' round which is only good for flanking shots. Of course, that assumes you can actually flank and wont just get killed by the Papertank II that got to the flank to camp before your light tanks have even got a quarter of the way there.

Tier V I dont bother with. Stock grind for yank tanks at that tier is insufferable because your good rounds all come later and your opponents all have workable ammo off the bat.

Lower tier yanks perform alright and some of their planes are a bit undertiered (looking at that wonderful corsair, baby) .50s do well against their targets and you can easily knock out tail control or vital components with a single pass. The trick is just keeping guns on target and getting multiple hits.

Around late Tier 2 into tier 3 things get a bit more difficult. A lot of Yank pilots wont climb or theyll ground pound despite being high altitude fighters, all because they want RP or Lions and quick matches but wont just suffer through arcade mode to grind. Part of that also comes from the fact that, compared to pretty much every plane they face, Yank planes have horrible fucking climb rates and unless you spend more time than usual sideclimbing you will rarely if ever be the highest in the match (and if you are by that point your entire team is likely dead). Even sideclimbing means someone with a better climb rate might be above you so there's that. Get good at defensive flying and try to drain peoples energy and altitude if you wanna do well. Also the F4U-1c, P-63 and P-61C are all excellent aircraft due to their hard hitting guns. Be ready for sparks on the 37 for the P-63 though.

Tier 4 is a bit better down the line. The P-47N is a fucking fantastic fighter and if you maintain Boom and Zoom tactics theres a smaller chance of you ever dying. The later P-51s are all good as well and the 2nd Bearcat is one of the better fighters at its battle rating (assuming it doesnt overheat before you reach the fight)

Tier V if you go down the fighter line is a bit painful. M3 .50s are an upgrade from M2 .50s in terms of accuracy and RoF but they seem to spark more in my experience and you run out of ammo quick if you dont get good at trigger discipline.

With the nature of Tier V being all about high speed and quick shots on targets that might pass you in a second or two, .50s have a bad habit of doing non-critical damage to aircraft when a cannon round might finish the job in a single hit. The F2 Sabre is supposedly really good but I CBA to buy it even after grinding out the entire line.

The Naval jet line has cannons (which is nice) but their performance and BRs are pretty bad for the most part.

Jets in general are pretty bland and the maps and meta dont make for fun matches in my opinion.

A few final notes though.

With the coming update .50s will be getting a fix that will see them being more effective. Apparently a lot of issues currently stem from the rounds breaking on the casings for fuel tanks and other parts instead of penetrating and detonating. With that fixed .50s will probably be quite nice again.

Most Yank planes can carry a good ground attack load. The P-47s and F6F-3 are both great for that role in ground forces though you should again try to maintain high energy at all times and pick your attacks carefully. Also use a P-61C in a 4.0 and under match and watch as Krauts fill the chat with salt when your 4x20mm armored rounds kill their tanks from above. Think of it as payback for the raping the Horten and any of their CAS planes with 30mm HVAP has given you.

Tier 1 isn't really remarkable, except for the excellent premium F2A. Lots of fun to fly, even if it has difficulty getting anything bigger than a Stuka.

Tier two also has some good planes like the F4 and P-40. However, they don't fit the meta of stupidly turning around and instaclimbing, and you can see the pattern begin here.

Tier three is full of excellent planes that are used wrong. The P-47 is one of the best fighters there, but it can't turn for shit, hence it being at 3.7 for a 700km/h dive speed and eight flamethrowers. The Hispano P-51 is good for taking unaware fighters, but doesn't climb too well either. I haven't tried diving in them yet, only got very few matches.

Tier 4 is either godly or total shit. You get B-29 spam at the later battles or idiots turnfighting in the P-51D series. What's more, the Germans outclimb you in those planes. Even if you're fast, Nazis are high above you even if you sideclimb. Once you get the F8F though, it's easy mode.

In general, they don't fit the meta as well as Slavs or Brits do. They play like Germans with more BnZ and less energy fighting, coupled with more forgiving guns.

The climb rate isnt their strong suit in my opinion. Theyve got decent dive speed and can actually turn with smart use of flaps.

I usually climb to around 3.5km then level out a bit and head towards whatever tussle is going on. If I encounter a plane above me I'll fly defensive until he gets stupid and tried to hammer (and open himself up for some 20mm in the asshole) or he decides to dedicate to a scissors. If I encounter nobody then I begin to boom in on low energy targets or players who are getting greedy for a kill on my allies ass.

I usually net between 3-5 kills a match with this tactics, though against Japs thats only around 2-3 before I get murdered by a UFO who manages to dive from space at 600km/h and then lose all of that and stay on my ass with no effort.

Depends on the plane. The 190s roll rate is fantastic and a good pilot will be able to get on your ass and stay there. HOWEVER if they dive on you its fairly simple to dodge with a hard downward turn followed by pulling up slightly. Just dont burn too much energy. If they try to turn with you laugh as you hit the flaps and proceed to shoot their wings off.

The 109s I have no issue dealing with as they dont possess quite as many plasma cannons as the 190s. Same general tactic applies. A lot of the tactics are learned just from watching others or time and practice really and its hard for me to put a lot of them into words. Sorry man.

Oh and dont try to rely on your roll rate. Its pretty bad.

With most american planes, dont turn. The P-63 can do a decent amount of rolling but really if someone is on your ass and hasn't just come out of a dive you should be able to just extend away from them with your far better acceleration and top speeds.

The P-47N has a pretty good roll rate so abuse that when desperate and dont be afraid to cut engine and deploy flaps for extra energy burning as a last ditch against high energy divers who dont control well at high speeds.

In the F4U-1c? Sure, with smart flap use again. Combat flaps for higher speeds (around 420 km/h+), Takeoff for around the 300 range and Landing for anything 250 and below.

Main thing is you operate better than him at low energy. Do NOT try to evade in the vertical with a 109. The Corsair is a horizontal monster and does not into energy retaining when you put her nose up for long.

I don't know if I agree. The feel of the planes is definitely different and I like how missiles are actually hard to dodge. But I don't know if that's better or worse, just different. In AC5 and Zero you're flying UFOs, in 3 it feels like you're flying real planes and that's a kind of cool change of pace.

I really like the music and tone of the game. It feels a lot more serious and the scifi setting is so cool. It's sad we'll never get another game in that setting just because the Japanese ace combat fanbase has garbage taste.
