Is relying on a shield and fatrolling viable in dark souls 3? At least for pve stuff?

Aw man I sure so love being a mobile user I've typed this out three fucking times now.
I was doing PvP at pontiffs, I found three chuggers, a host who tried to bank me with the red phantom mid fight, and a red who did the same. One chugger I liked most because it was a fatroller with irithyll SS and avelyn. What's this new offhand avelyn meme? I've found so many people doing it.

I wish i could enjoy this series for its pvp, but 80% of invades/arenas being against people who have third world internet has destroyed this series for me

Offhand crossbow became a meme because of how easy they are to use to finish chuggers as they attempt a chug after going some distance.

First for mouse and keyboard best way to play for unlocked combat. It throws off pursuers every time when I 180 and pokey poke with my poker or slam with my red stick. It's optimal for all ranged combat, especially in pve.

If unlocked strafing was a possible option, m&kb would be unstoppable. Rate my opinion from pleb to not pleb.

Prolonging the fight is bottom line not the issue, you've been outplayed if you've gotten to the point where you need estus

I know that it caused pvp balance problems, but I am glad that phantoms could sip in Dark Souls II and III.

I'm replaying I, and co-op is aggravating. Most hosts are incredibly rude. For the past two times I've fought Quelaag, not one of my hosts have even taken an estus flask when I'm at low health.

The stupidity astounds me.

I haven't played DS3, but in DS2 hoooly shit there are a few builds that I hate:

1. Hex spammers. These are the guys who start button mashing R1 as soon as you are summoned, draining through dark orb and sometimes climax. Unless you have a dedicated anti-hex shield then you have to basically do 4 or 5 perfectly timed rolls (since hexes will stun you out of a roll) just to START fighting.

2. Buffed-Infused Katana or Longsword "Meta" builds at low SM. (usually min-maxing SM by throwing on Vengarl's or Drangleic armor and investing all their souls into stats and the weapon). These are the most statistically effective builds, the game's mechanics supports them (wonky thrust hitboxes, 2H buff to poise destruction, 2-hit stunlock rule) the problem is that the counter to this strategy is ONLY possible at high SM when you can buff your elemental defense with GMB and use Rob Flynn. It's the equivalent of that shitty kid who always picks the strongest fighting game character and never uses anything else, but also never plays against anyone good enough to punish him.

3. Poison rapiers and spotted whip. Do I need to say more? When they're bad, it turns the match into an impossible trading game where after every attack you have to run away for 20 seconds to let your poison heal, and they have to constantly chase you around (worse on iron keep where space is limited). If they're good, they'll keep throwing out poison mist and running away, trolling you until you make a mistake and end up poisoned. After that happens your choice is to either run away and die, or use a poison moss while they throw out a forbidden sun.

Thankfully, at SL200+ these builds all become less viable. I'd rather fight a melee / greatbox gank squad than a single hex spammer.

Dilapidated Bridge is faster. Just walk up through the building and kill the single hammer undead and there is an Evangelist on a perch right there.

Also super easy since the bonfire is literally a 5 foot drop below you. No homeward bone required.

Unpopular opinion: I think soul memory works better for populating a server and when DS3 drops to DS2-levels of activity, it's going to be a lot more dead on the servers (more like DS1 is now) because of that, while DS2 is still going to be active.

ds3 is built in such a way that a huge number of players in same level ranges with same upgrade level ranges end up in the same areas
no matter to what numbers it drops, it will always be more consistent in terms of activity than ds2 which can seriously fuck you over even for wanting to get a single farmable set
in fact, prior to DLC, at the lowest spectrum of activity DS3 ever saw, i still saw a good number of signs all around and during my dried finger runs i always had an invader in my world

How DS2 drop rates work:

Each item has a rarity value, the game calculates a random amount +/- each time you kill an enemy.

If that amount is below your item discovery, you get that item. So if your item discovery is low, you basically NEVER get that drop unless there's a 0.1% chance that the modifier is that high.

But if you have ~100 item discovery you'll be getting drops left and right- just not the really good stuff.

And if you equip full item discovery (~200? I think) You get the good stuff frequently.

So if you equip the merchant hat and dragon crest shield (both available right away) and go through the game that way you'll get 80% of the important drops. The rest you need the serpent ring for.

It's not a percentage based thing. Killing an enemy 1000 times is less likely to get a drop than than killing them 10 times with full item discovery.

Do invasions still happen in Ds3 at SL 200+?

I was thinking a low level, preferably around 30-40 for maximum swamp/cathedral activity. A dickthief sort of build, something very BB-esque.

I've got a pretty powerful PC but even while the games maintain a solid 60 fps the vast majority of the time it feels like there are some choppy dips, almost always during movement in larger empty areas.

It's annoying, but never comes up when it could actually have any influence on combat or something. Since it happens in all the dark souls games I just figure it's entirely due to the ports never being very good.

The reach is bad but it's the most stat-efficient spear by a longshot. Low-level gargoyle sucks because of low split damage and low level plow is mediocre due to being a scaling-focused quality weapon. They have reach, but reach is all they have.

javelin sucks because what matters for spears isn't damage so much as reach. 4PP has the best reach while having the lowest stat requirements and still decent damage while raw on top of being able to be buffed with bundles/resins. i usually have it as my 3rd weapon in invasions, i fight with a SS most of the time and have a weapon to switch to for parry ripostes, then my 3rd weapon is the plow for if they survive the riposte or sometimes for when dealing with greatsword users.

You were still in front of him on his screen because his client hadn't updated that "sprint around behind me" action yet, so he just hit the person standing in front of him.

The game syncs position through the connection, so any delay means that positions are also delayed. Your oponent doesn't have to hit where you are on your client, just where you are on his client, which can be well behind yours.

The way to deal with this is just to roll more. You can't take damage during your iframes no matter what, so it's the best answer to avoiding damage when there's notable latency.

Just one of the flaws of Ds2. There's almost no unique movesets save for stuff from the DLCs. The existing movesets do look a lot better animation-wise though.

DaS2 does have moveset variety, but it's mainly because the game has a fucking massive total number of weapons. There's almost twice as many weapons as DaS3 and most of them use generic, copypasted movesets, but because there's so many, the small % that's actually unique ends up being a considerable number in total.

Most DaS1 weapons got the bum's rap in 2 because the effort went instead into other things.

To be honest, their running attack are unpredictable because they're fast. Not obviously and blatantly telegraphic your actions is like the most basic of the basic shit in multiplayer videogames. It's just that fighting katana WD spam relies heavily on them being predictable because you can't do anything on reaction except dodge and hope your reflex arc was shorter than 11 frames

It's the same reason that being close to a curved sword is so scary. The time between first visible startup frame and active frame is so short that even reacting quickly enough to dodge can be difficult. You keep your distance so your opponent is forced to telegraph themselves by approaching, because otherwise they have absolute control over the fight. Katana WD spam is even easier to use since it closes so much distance you don't have to need to approach. You just need to be sprinting, but with DaS3's shitty stamina balance, you can just sprint in circles for like 30 seconds with total impunity and initiate your 11-frame 400 damage thrust completely at your leisure. There's no need to telegraph your action by sprinting because you can just be always sprinting

Most of the armored core games have at least 1 mission where it just runs under 20 fps. It doesn't matter how good console is, or how good your computer is, or how you emulate it, the game just has one area or weapon or section that is just -bad-. From Software doesn't do quality control on these things, if they develop an area and find out that it lags like shit (Blighttown, Sif, Demon Ruins, Gutter, etc.) as long as it's 'playable' it passes.

The most likely scenario is that it's a "portable" version for the Switch and people's laptops. From doesn't want to pander to people who already bought the game, they want to bring the game to people who never played it.
