Eggman is really hard to write since he needs to be evil enough for the player/reader/whatever to want to root for the good guys, but still comedic because he's a fucking fat man with a stupid grin and a huge mustache.

I'd still argue that Unleashed Eggman is the most balanced since his plan actually worked for the most part and had serious implications, and when he's in the Egg Dragoon he's really pissed at Sonic for fucking up his schemes once again. But, he also has really moments like whacking Proto-Orbot on the head, his giant sandwich, the Mazuri throwing rocks at him, and Dark Gaia launching him into the fucking stratosphere.

Shadow is one of my favorite characters in this series, but even I find how Shadow was portrayed in ShtH was bullshit. The whole him carrying realistic guns, swearing, killing people to join the dark side was ridiculous and that just made me cringe a little. Eggman had done some evil and edgy shit, too, but it wasn't too far or too straight. How Eggman can be threatening and hilarious is what made him seems like the best character out of this series or at least the least divisive character out of everyone.

I'm completely fine keeping the Freedom Fighters as characters, but the main cast right now is too bloated. I'd rather they be semi-retired as major characters and rotated in from time to time as guests. This would not only keep the main cast from being too bloated, but would also result in the Freedom Fighters getting more characterization than they do now, because you only have to worry about them one or two at a time instead of having all of them together.
