You never want to go first in any circumstance. Even if you're aggro that runs a lot of one drops, you'd much rather go second because it means additional face damage from an evolve and the additional card draw is crucial because most aggro decks have poor cycle. There's also the situation where a lot of decks run a two cost removal spell, usually three copies of it. If you go first then they can remove your two drop with it, which leads to maximum value. If you go second, they either have to use it on their turn 3 (which is less value/tempo) or use it on your 1 drop which is awful and forfeits their turn two.
As control you'd always want the additional draw. The only time I can imagine actually wanting to go first is in the Seraph mirror match, but you can also just have two or three followers on turn seven so they instant lose if they do nothing on turn eight.
I know it will never happen, but I just want to play this game without the evolve cards. I don't mind evolving as a mechanic, but I despise cards like Floral Fencer that give ridiculous benefits for no reason. Hell, Tia isn't even overpowered. It's specifically the fact that she can go right after a card that gives you two free fairies that makes her ridiculous.

I think it's more of a matter of having better cards and better plays on turns 4 and 5 if going first than anything else. Aggro blood is a good (and I will admit, only) example of this, it has consistent curve plays which means it fares better going first to use the extra PP. Evolve is fine, they just need to print better cards that doesn't require evolve points to be useful.

The meta is completely different now than it was before they made the changes to player two's benefits so the people who try to bring up ancient statistics as an argument are being naive.
Turn four, five, and six decide most matches in this game. A lot of decks ride heavily on having strong showing in the midgame and midrange in general makes up basically the entire meta. Combos are also huge right now too, meaning even a single additional card is a big deal.

LotF is good, but he cannot do much against Rune and Forest in AA rank. If you are dealing with Sword/Haven more often, consider replacing Gabriel with another LotF.

Dshift literally is an auto win against all control decks. There is basically no way to win against them if you're control. On ladder there is a lot more aggro, but Dshift does alright against most aggro decks aside from Blood.
And Dshift is probably about 40% of the players I fight in A2. I'm really not sure how their winrate is so low. As a control player I always just concede turn one against Rune. There's no way to win. They don't even need to have the combo by turn seven or eight. Petrification is so strong it can completely shut down all other combo decks.

The new Rune Legendary will most likely fit in an Aggro Rune deck.
From how they described Levi in the previous expac, it seemed like they wanted him to be a tool for Aggro Rune but he ended up being a Dshift pick anyway because of how good he was.
If we follow the trend with Dragon where they're still trying to push on with last expacs Discard Dragon memes, then the new Rune Legend will also be a push towards Aggro Rune of some sort.

Try to play it out. Go alt-tab at their turn. Drag your turn as long as possible and make sure to disconnect if they have lethal. There is a chance the match will be "interrupted" and it won't be counted as a loss. That's what I always do against Dshift and I recommend more people to do it too.
