/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy,Cookie Clicker, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Any news about the Steel Zeroes thing? I was lucky enough to download the demo right before I lost my internet access.

I thought it was great fun, I like how they made it so the random battles were optional, which is both good for people who want to grind, people who just want to do enough to get the right items and levels, or people wanting to do low level challenge runs.

The writing is pretty good, my favorite character was the army robot. I thought the detail about humanity's population decreasing at the same time robots were recommitting more advanced was interesting. It's probably just a joke about people fugging their robots, but it'd be interesting if there was a more serious issue behind it.

The character designs are pretty cute, although it's pretty clear the artist has a thing for birthan' hips. Even the boy robots have wide hips. Speaking of which, is there a download link of all the character sprites in the demo? I want to look though the various expressions the characters make.

What did you guys think of it?

Also, I was looking at the files for Joyful, and something that didn't make it into the game is that there was supposed to be Buddy's name at the top of the list. I thought it was interesting that her name was written in pink. I figured it'd be a dripping blood red for max edge, since the other names are also in red, but I guess Buddy still has a little femininity in her after all.

Makes me wonder if she'd still like doodling pictures and putting makeup on people after she found peace, and if she ever wound up making any friends (or if Rando hadn't died in the game.)

Playing more of van hellsing. There was a sorta tower defence quest in my resistence lair which was ok. I learned during it that all the expensive traps are shit and that the lowest cost electro fields paired with werewofl soldiers work best.
I also seem to be underleveled now because I did all sidequest but found equip 2 levels above me and had big common enemies one hit me with a far range grab.

Wuppo's a 2D Action Platformer.
I'm not gonna say it's the best game ever, but it's really enjoyable.
The plot is about a little ball-creature getting thrown out of his home and going on a quest to find a new home or reclaim his old one, whichever works out.
18 extremely varied bosses and a decent range of environments to explore, the game is, despite being really cutesy, fucking stuffed with lore about the universe the game resides in.
New Boss Rush is also really nice, albeit somewhat difficult because your health carries over between fights and it denies you several heals that you get when you kill a boss.

So if you like comfy platformers, it's a pretty good buy.

Personally, I run Thorium, Tremor, IMKSushi's Tweaks (base), Zoaklen's Mod, and Prefixes for Enemies.

I'm also trying out the Cataclysm mod because he fixed the garish and awful sprites for armors and weapons. Some of them are still bad, but at least they visually fit.

And the Crystilium mod, which I have no fucking idea what to expect, honestly.

You could always do a new playthough with a different build. I tried a girl character, to see what would be different. Sneaky mentions that it might be harder to disguise myself as a protectorate solder to sneak in and get the energy shields, since I'd be a white girl pretending to be a big black guy.

Speaking of which, on my first playthough, I tried sneaking it, but when I told the guard to let me in, he asked if I was sick, mentioning that I liked unusually pale, before attacking me. Is it because my character was white? Does he say something different if I pick one of the avatars of a black guy?

I never tried a sniper run. Can you use some caltrops to toss to slow him down? Or eat an eel sandwich and hope the boost in dex lets you go first and hopefully fuck him up before he reaches you (snipers are about doing loads of damage and 1HKO-ing people before they get you, right?)

Is your dex any good? On my crossbow girl, I just reloaded until I went first, then hit him with an electric bolt followed by bleeding bolts. Then I went around a corner and laid an acid trap for him to step on while I shot him down. Disappointed to see he didn't have good loot on him.

What's your build? My girl has 7 dex, and it took a few tries before I could get the first move.

Can you throw a flashbang and hide behind one the pillars, so you can recharge your items?

Not competing is one thing, committing sales suicide is another. Sure, those who are interested will probably pick up both eventually. But with Torment I'm expecting another PoE, something that will keep people occupied for months with all the review and whatever drama it'll generate.

When Underrail came out it didn't really have much competition. The AoD hype was just dying down, the PoE expansions were out and forgotten, and people had time to play. It was a good time to get most of the playerbase playing at the same time.

Just like any other weapon. Keep in mind that only Styg knows the exact formulas.

The base precision is 70%. Those can be modified by:

1. Weapon optimal range
2. Weapon STR and skill requirements
3. Weapon durability
4. Weapon close range/move penalties
5. Weapon precision bonuses

6. Enemy evasion/dodge rating compared to your offensive skill rating
7. Lighting

Now to explain how all of those affect precision

1. Your get a precision penalty if shooting beyond your optimal range. For example all sniper rifles have a max range of 20 and optimal range of 14 (with one exception).

That means your precision will stay high as long as the enemy is 14 or less tiles away, but will start dropping once you try to shoot further than that.

2. You get approx. 10% penalty for every point of STR below the requirement. Don't know the math behinf skill requirement and how much you lose if you are below it, but it's very rarely an issue.

3. All weapons get a precision penalty as soon as they reach 30% or less durability. From that point The penalty gets bigger the more degraded the weapon is, it can get pretty big if you reach 0-10%.

4. This one is pretty self explanatory but the numbers displayed are not always 100% correct.

For example, I did some tests with spearhead sniper rifle that has 15% move penalty. I had 95% precision so it sohuld drop to80% after moving.

In practice it dropped to 79%, 1% more for some reason. I'm guessing it has to do with how the game rounds up the values.

5. Some attachments and even weapons themselves have precision bonuses.

Keep in mind some of those bonuses are lost in certain cases even though the game never tells you about it.

For example, the scope and bipod bonuses are not applied if you are not focused.

Evasion/dodge cap at 60% reduction if their rating is twice as big as the offensive skill rating of the attacker. So if you try to attack a guy with 100 dodge with your bare fists and 50 melee, yuo will have only 10% chance to hit.

All of those are just approximations though, no one knows exactly how it works in great detail. Styg formulas are an enigma.

7. Lighting only applies to ranged weapons but it's a big factor. I think Anything that isn't the brightest light possible gives a penalty.

There are multiple levels of illumination and different items/environments give different levels. It's always good to shot an enemy that is near a barrel brazier, a mindshroom, a flare, a molotov fire or any other source of light.

Night vision goggles allow you to ignore any and all lighting penalties while active, they are a real godsend for snipers.

That's a good question, I never thought about it.

I don't think so. The level of illumination affects how easy it it to spot someone in stealth, but I think the night vision effect works as a buff that only affects the player.

You can get motion tracking goggles that increase detection greatly though. Paranoia feat increases it as well.

Remember that detecion scales with level, too. With high PER and stealth you will eventually be able to detect crawler before they detect you, or at least detect them while they are sneaking up on you.

I use crossbows, I don't know if it's the same way with snipers, but if I turn on my night vision goggles, my accuracy improves a lot. Try using those if you haven't. Make sure to turn them on during/just before the fight too, or you won't get the night vision bonuses.

I think it helps, but you'd be better off buying/making goggles that boost your detection. The one I got now almost doubles my detection.

I think if they take damage from caltrops, they'll also reveal themselves, so you can put on some metal boots, toss down a bunch of caltrops if you feel like you're in crawler territory or you can see their shadows, but can't target them directly.

Let's say Underrail gets 3 expansions in total, each taking 1,5 year. So last expansion will be out around mid-2020. For a new game, there are already engine limitations, so they will need a new one. But then, the team is now bigger. So let's say it will take 5 years to finish, but add a small delay just because. So Underrail 2 will be out by 2026.

Now then, if we assume that if the stars align a single micro-issue can be fixed in 2 years, it would take until 2024 to complete it. But we should expect complications.

That being said, the very beginning of 2017 means that 9 months have passed between two patches. This is the longest absence of updates since the first version of the alpha came out. Not that it's strange for a released game, but it includes some fixes for things that people still regularly report that they fixed long, long ago. And for all we know it's not a major content patch, so it's a little strange. I get that they are busy, but they could have released a hotfix for at least the GMS bug and some other minor things during this time.

I did 4 different mutagen puzzles and they are all pretty much the same really.

The rules are very simple, just get all the mutagens, add those that have Exitus-1 atoms in correct order, when you are done look for mutagens that will get rid of junk atoms without fucking up the order or adding other junk atoms you can't get rid of.

The best thing about psi is not necessarily is that it's the strongest (which it gets close to anyway), but that it doesn't have any inherent weaknesses. Basically there is nothing in the game you don't have the tools to overcome just with psi spells alone, and psi is a naturally regenerating resource. So it is very hard for a psi to get into an impossible situation.

Swapping ammo types was extremely clunky in them, not to mention ammo modifers were bugged to begin with. You also couldn't mix different ammo types in a single mag at all.

There is a place you will go to called Depot A/B, which can be challanging for new players. The main thing to watch out for
are creatures that spray acid, and turrets.

You can help avoid acid, by using armor that lowers acid damage. You might be able to buy or find some, but it's rare at
that point in the game. If you put your points into tailor, you can create anti-acid armor by heading west, and then north
from the front enterance of Junkyard. There you can find froglike creatures that emerge out of the water. Kill them, and use
their skin to make armor that will allow you to shrug off the acid attacks.


For the turrents, if you level your hack skill, you can do missions for the Black Eel Gang to get access to their secret
enterence to the depot. Once you enter the depot, go to the northeast corner of it to find a room that will allow you to
disable all the turrets in depot.

If you want to avoid getting shit on by attacks, it mostly matters what kind of skills you're leveling up (dodge/evasion/throw/traps/etc.) For the most part, you mainly just want to get your stats high enough to buy feats. You can see a thing that says "display all feats" in the 3rd tab of the char creation, so you can plan ahead.

If you don't intend to get feats with a dodge requirement, you can lower your dex and put it into will or other stats. What is your planned fighting style? Pure psi or a hybrid of psy and something else?

Nah, actually that would be Agi, especially if you put points into Dodge and Evsaion, pick the Nimble feat, do stealth, stuff like that. Dex for a psi is not all that useful, since it doesn't do anything for psi spell AP cost. Help with initiative is cool, but based on your low CON I'm assuming you want to go the stealth route, which means usually you will be able to start combat on your terms, rendering initiative kinda useless.

Anyway, in that case pump up Will to 10 and if you have no better plan max it later whenever you can. If you are interested in crafting you might consider raising Int to 7 for some feats, especially Power Management.

Also, you are planning to go the Tranquility route, am I correct?

Dex is completely unrelated to Psi. If you want to go psy melee, your main stats would be strength, dex, and will.

If you put your cursor over dex, it'll say that it increases your chance to crit with certain melee attacks, and certain psy abilities will copy your melee attacks (I think it only does it for fist attacks, but I'm not sure.) It also says says it reduces the action point cost of punching.

In the feats window, you can type in stuff like "Strength" or "dex" into the filter field to quickly find out which feats need which stats.

Let's say you make a fist fighter melee character, with psi to help (let's say you pick psychokinesis because it goes well together.)

The punch skill with the most dex needed is Combo, with Dex 8 needed. For Will, it's Neural Overlocking, with will 10 needed.

Note that you get a free stat point for every four levels, so if you don't have enough stats to get all the feats you want right away, that's ok, you can get the stats later.

I haven't tried a psi-punching guy yet, so maybe someone else can give you a little more details. Feel free to experiment though.

Don't worry, anon. That's why we are giving you feedback as best as we can.

Here's the deal, as a psi you will be picking either Tranquility or Psychosis down the line, and it will drastically change how you play your character. If you go for the former, you will be getting an AP cost reduction (-5) while at full health, and later on with the Meditation feat another 25 points to your psi pool. This means your actual health pool matters less, since you will want to stay at full anyway to take advantage of Tranquility. With Psychosis the psi cost of every spell increases by 20%, however your crit chance increases by 15%. Later on this will allow you to take the Psionic Mania feat, which gives you a guaranteed crit in exchange for 15% of your health (less if it would kill you). In this case there is technically still nothing stopping you from making a glass cannon with hit and run tactics, but with Psychosis I'd strongly recommend going for high CON and lots of health. For reasons.

Decide your path, and we can sort out the rest of your stats later.

There are also three different schools of psi, and it isn't necessary to level up all three of them. I haven't tried it, but I think thought control would be best for a knife user (it's crowd control, so if you're against a group of foes you can frighten or enrage enemies to allow you to focus on killing one of the while others are preoccupied.) Psychosis is risky with a glass cannon, but a tank psi is nigh unkillable. That being said, that 15% increase of Psychosis is not the reason to pick that path, it's the guaranteed crit of Psionic Mania. With the Neural Overclocking feat you can add 30% to your crit damage, and even more with the correct crafted equipment. By the end of the game a well built Psychosis psi can dish out damage that can rival a well built sniper. It is that good.

Tranquility is the "boring" option, but it allows you to play around with spell combos and synergies in a way a Psychosis psi never will. It is like being a chess master, you look at the battlefield and you are in total control. It's a very different kind of playstyle.

If you want to be a tank, then you should trade that Agility for Constitution.

To be a tank you are going to need heavy armor. And the armor penalty will render almost everything Agility-related near useless. So as a tank you should forget about stealthing, moving around fast, or dodging/evading anything. You will just tank the damage instead.

Eventually getting your Constitution to 10 would be a good idea for Thick Skull, but even before that 9 Constitution will give you the Survival Instinct feat. As long as you are under 30% health, you will get +30% to your crit chance. That means as a Psychosis psi this will give you 50% to crit with any psi attack, without a health penalty, which is great. And with some Morphine you can survive pretty well under 30% anyway.

So forget about Agility, work on your Con and get a good armor.

Max the three psis skills and melee. Decide if you want hacking/lockpicking/pickpocketing/persuasion/intimidation.

Of the crafting skills what you'll want are mechanics, electronics, and biology. None of these need maxing, but you'll want to get all three high eventually. For knives, and armor, and shield, psi headband, and drugs. These are the most important. For example the Trance drug will increase psi cost even more - but it adds 100% to your crit damage. Combined with Premeditation and possibly Locus of Control it will achieve beautiful things.

You will also want a little tailoring, but it's not as important as mechanics. You'll see once you start experimenting with crafting.

You can only put a certain amount of skill points into any skill, depending on your level. 15 max at level 1, 20 max at level 2, 25 max at level 3, and so on.

Melee is a must, otherwise your knife attacks will be sucking and you'll miss out on various feats that need a certain amount of melee. Pick at least one psi school, and max it out too. I think thought control would be best personally.

Normally, I would suggest sneak, but since you're playing a tank, you won't benefit much from it.

Other stuff is up to you, although I would suggest devoting your points these crafting skills:

Tailoring: Allows you to make armor
Mechanics: Allows you to make weapons
Electronics: Can make energy shields, although I'm not sure how important those are to a non-stealth character. Can also make tasers to shock robotic characters, who are immune to mind control psi abilities.
Biology: Can make various drugs to make you stronger, is needed along with electronics to make special psi-boosting hats.

The good thing about leveling up tailoring, is that you can make armors that boost your non-existant stealth. There are various missions in the game that involve sneaking around without getting detected. With tailoring, you can make stealth gear, take off your armor, put on the stealth gear, accomplish the mission, and when you get back to safety, you can just put on your regular armor. The same goes if you want to steal stuff in town without getting caught.

Lockpicking and hacking are great with stealth characters, not sure how good they are with heavy characters, but like I said, crafting stealth equipment can help. Lockpicking and hacking can grant you access to oddities that would be otherwise unattainable. They can open up shortcuts too. Certain computers can be hacked to disable turrets and security systems too.

Yep, that's good.

You should know that Persuasion is the, well, story skill. Honestly it doesn't have much use. Persuasion checks are rare, but when they happen they usually hold the best outcome for a situation hostage. So whether you should get it depends on whether you want a very situational and otherwise useless skill just for fluff. Personally I think you should go for it, since there is no better time to level Persuasion than while playing a psi, since high Will will allow you to raise it high enough to pass everything fairly fast.

Hacking is cool, keep it. It has several uses, unlike lockpicking it can actually get some skill checks every once in a while, and passing those can save you a lot of trouble.

Not really, it's mostly used to make quests shorter like if you need to talk to a prisoner in a certain quest, you can convince the warden you're his family, otherwise you'll have to sneak though the vents, or to get certain things for free. Opportunist might be good, if you're going to have knives as your primary damage dealer, with psi as crowdcontrol/supplemental damage.

If you're focusing on crits, then Recklessness is good. It gives you more chance to crit foes (7%)and get crit by enemies (3%) Since you're you can probably deal getting hit with the occasional strong attack.

These are both for weapons, so psi attacks won't enjoy the boost, but your knives will.

I'd go for Opportunist and Stoicism.

You can get a psi spell at the start that will on the long run do very good single target damage, but at level one it won't really one-shot anything, and it has a cooldwon that takes a few turns. However it stuns. Which means after you cast it, you can finish the job with a knife. And you'll get some other stun inducing abilities later, so it'll never stop being useful.

Stoicism mainly because you have Biology, and it stacks well with other drugs. If you do get your Con to 9 and grab Survival Instinct, under 30% health this will give you 35% damage reduction for any kind of damage, even without drugs. I think that is very much worth it, as well as gives you the opportunity to viably and deliberately keep yourself under 30% for that crit chance. Add a shield, a defensive psi spell if needed, and enjoy your 50% crit chance with little risk.

Yeah, the game can't make a difference between first and last name, so it all gets treated as if it was your first name. Kind of awkward if you go around with a full name.

Did one for the cybernetic vampire seen in the demo too.
Though I did mess up here, I no longer have the .psd file I used to make her portraits, and therefore, no higher res, so I had to use the game portraits in their 544x416 res

Ananke, a nervous cyborg vampire alien who posseses some powerful thunder magic spells i her arsenal, her cybernetic body isn't very well made and has some pretty faulty issues with it's power, so Ananke is hungry all the time, eager to drink some energy from robots much like how a vampire drinks blood from humans.
