I've never played AA but I want to give it a try with this release and the fresh start servers.
Assuming I ever get to actually play, due to the retarded queues and crashing during char creation, my question is:
What's a good class combination to use if I want to be a melee dps warrior type of character? Or maybe something that'd be like a paladin in WoW where I beat the shit out of mobs and can kind of heal myself too.

NFA exists on one of my alts, the original guild had essentially been 'disbanded' once the 100 player limit was enforced.
Leadership was held on my alt though, and the guild still exists on Kyrios.

Currently NFA is somewhat reformed with a few returning to play together in AA (Reckoning). We are currently enjoying the nostalgia of 10h queues and constant disconnects, just like old times.

I don't know who the queen of NFA was, I don't think we held anyone that high in the ranks - but we are back, smaller, scattered among the people in the queue.

Legacy accounts -supposedly- can't make a new character on Reckoning or Vengeance servers, nor vice versa.

Enjoy pantsu, disaster, and other legacy power-guilds raping those captive audiences with every exploit, trick, and underhanded tactic that they've figured out over these last 2.5 years until they're open for transfer. At that point the whole playerbase will show up and compete to rape you harder.

Within a month one of those legacy "fresh start" guilds will establish dominance and then:
>all content will be denied
>all hidden farms will be camped
>all valuable items on the AH will be controlled
>all trade runs will be camped
>no one will be safe anywhere

By the time transfers open they'll have an average GS of 6.5k while everyone else will be stuck with 4k. You'll be fucked worse than uf you had rolled on legacy and since you're a captive audience locked into FS there's nothing you can do to stop it or escape it.

Complaining about all the power being in the hands of a top guild is just a complaint about how this game works, though. There can only be one group on top of each server, and everyone else is their bitch. That's how Archeage is. It's basically the real life situation of the top 1% where they gain power and then use their power to gain an ever-increasing advantage over everyone else which becomes insurmountable.

Controlling a 2 server cluster is easy as hell. They did it in alpha no problem.

It's really something that newbies to this game need to consider before they put a lot of time and money into the game. If you aren't into playing the game religiously in order to grind for better gear all the time and using that gear as part of a large group of players who coordinate using meta tactics such as the mageball to lock other guilds out of content, then you have to realize you're going to be playing a different game altogether. If you're into just farming around and playing house, or even doing small scale PvP goofing off on boats, you have to realize that in as little as 3 months in from the fresh start you're going to considered a total scrub who won't even be allowed into the "good" guilds because they're so far ahead of you, and their condescenion will be backed up by the fact that any one of them could probably 1v5 you and your group of non-hardcore buddies. This feels bad, not because you are losing, but because there is no difference in skill between you and those guys - in fact you are probably better at small scale PvP than they are, since they usually play in large groups. They are just so far ahead in gear they don't need to try.
