Honestly, it's up to you. Chances are you won't pick it up again, but you can always use that 2DS to do a system transfer for another friend. If you're up to the task too, you can always use that 2DS to perform system transfer downgrades for other people and charge them for it. You could make more money than just selling the 2DS that way, but that's not a guarantee.

Last reason to hold on to it is if you're main N3DS ever gets banned (which it shouldn't unless you did something stupid, and I do mean stupid). You can use the localfriendseed thing from the 2DS to unban the N3DS if you ever reach that point, which again, you shouldn't.

Don't know how much you can sell it for or make if you decide to go that route.

Oothax worked well for me. Not expensive, not hard to find. The downside being you either need another hacked system or powersaves. Maybe you can install oothax with sploit_installer if menuhax allows for that though, who knows.

I used the screen protectors from Xtremeguard for the 3DS models I have and did a wet application by mixing a drop or two of dish soap into a bowl of water. I got my hands wet with the soapy water, wet the screen protector with the soapy water, and applied it carefully. With it being wet, you get multiple "attempts" to get it right and adjusted. After it dried, there were no bubbles and it still looks clean to this day as if there is no screen protector on it at all.

If you order from the website, google a promotional code since you can get 85% to 95% off their shit there. Don't get the dry install kit though.

Yes you need Gateway + Emunand + Gateway Fast Boot and everything will work fine

Apparently you can use tinyformat to make 9.2 downgrade work without losing anything, since it doesn't actually delete stuff. Someone on gbatemp posted a method:

Basically run the dsiware/dgtools, backup NAND and f0f1, downgrade NFIRM, run tinyformat, downgrade to 9.2 and follow the rest of the guide to install A9LH, then restore your NAND backup to get your stuff back.

I'm going to try this tomorrow as mine soft bricks every time trying to 9.2 downgrade. Have too much stuff I don't want to lose, so I definitely want to avoid a full system format.

Was able to downgrade nfirm using slowhax and LoE, however when trying to downgrade to 9.2 it crashed in the middle of it for a partial as the guide calls it. I can't get back into homebrew through Menuhax which I'm assuming doesn't work due to the downgrade. However, trying to get back into homebrew by browserhax isn't working either. It keeps crashing at Orange. I'm pretty new to this and at a loss of what to try to next to get back into homebrew and try to downgrade again. Any advice? They've been pulled from the eShop, so only way to hack an 11.0+ 3DS now is either hardmod or system transfer from an already hacked console. From what I read if you get the soft brick it will keep happening until you format. The soft brick seems to happen way less in the system transfer method instead of waithax, and that might be because the target system gets formated. It shouldn't happen if you tinyformat after NFIRM downgrade. The dsiware game might become inaccessible until you restore nand backup though.

There is no release to wait for, it's already out, and it only works for people who've already bought one of those four games. There might be something else at 33c3, which lasts from December 27th to 30th, there's going to be a combined 3DS and Wii U talk about how both have been completely owned, so if we're lucky there'll be another release, or at least exploit rundown that other devs can implement themselves.
My advice is to wait until then and see what happens. Last year at 32c3, people were just expecting a rundown of the 3DS security and a new homebrew launcher release, instead we got all that plus informations on an ARM11 kernel exploit and two ARM9 exploits, so I'm hopeful we'll be surprised again this year.

I have released pirated games a lot.

Here is basics down for it:
Cartridges have a unique header, nintendo thought that cartridge based pirating would be first course of action for the chinks so cartridges have a thing against just cloning them or using something like Sky3DS (only 3DS flashcart that more or less just acted like actual game cart and worked up to... 10. something I think)

Basically the unique header is shown when accessing online services and if you have a NOT so unique header, well you will be risking a ban - when playing with something like gateway or Sky3DS like said.

So CFW? Well the funky thing is every console installed game, eShop games officially, just about ANY game when speaking unofficially, when installed on the system itself gets a unique header - from your console. So every game installed from .cia/freeshop/QR downloaded with FBI has a unique header from your own console, which should be unique. So this course of action currently amounts to nothing when it comes down sniffing out pirates - Because of nintendo seemingly being unable to do ANYTHING people even tried leaked games online - and even those were fine which is why the Pokemon Sun and Moon bans were such a surprise - people REALLY did expect nintendo to just do nothing and it was first time when they actually did. Aside that though, there does not seem to be any additional safeguards as they are not technically in place and probably cannot be replaced anymore.

TL;DR: No, there is no real Pirate sniffing methods for CFW and .CIA/Freeshop games, there is one against fake cartridges/pirate clones/Sky3DS/Gateway but not like you have to care about those at all.

Technically there is, Sky3DS, but it's limited (retail cart rips only, no DLC, no eShop content, no native region free), expensive ($60+) and generally not recommended at all when CFW can be installed for free and offer so much more. Plus, the way they've dealt with roadblocks before (new encryption on games, etc.) is to just release an entirely new model, leaving the old one obsolete and burning everyone who bought one, something they've done twice now.

At 11.0, you can use browserhax, though it's a little complicated to set up for 11.0 and requires either ssh access to your router or a rooted Android phone ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-use-browserhax-on-firmware-10-7-0-and-11-0-0-and-get-your-exploit-games-ready-for-slowhax.450675/ . You use browserhax to use ctr-httpwn, which disables the update check and lets you access the eShop and other online services.
Like I said, I'd recommend just waiting and seeing what happens at 33c3, they might have something that beats out even a9lh. Otherwise yeah, your only remaining options are to systransfer from a hacked console with DSiWarehax installed, or hardmod. And if you're going to do either of those, I'd still say avoid updating, because if 11.3 or 12.0 releases any time, there's absolutely no guarantee it won't break compatibility for the DSiWarehax/hardmod downgrades.

As for the hacked console, I imagine I'll have a hard time finding one locally, living in Bournemouth. Might have to go to reddit and ask around if someone would lend a hacked 3DS or help out. Would I lose all of my existing saves, progress, etc with my current console? I assume so

Is it pretty much impossible to get Adrenaline working on an unactivated Vita? It says it's installed, but it won't bring up a PSP bubble.

I doubt you'll find someone willing to lend you a console, but I know there's gamesquest1 on GBATemp who's got a good reputation for hardmod installs in the UK, charges £25 return postage last I checked. Would make downgrading it yourself easy, with the bonus of making it entirely brickproof.
