my gripe with the RPGmaker format is heavy use of stock assets, but MGQ is all about the story and vore anyway, especially when you have lazy fucks like Misha and female-torso-attached-to-tentacle abominations by Setouchi

Yeah, luka doesn't really feel like the main character anymore. In the original trilogy, pretty much everything revolved around luka and his current/potential power level. Alice teaches him cursed sword skills because he's weak but has a lot of potential, granberia's dynamic is rather similar, a lot of minor events are there to showcase his current strength (like when that ilias kruz guy was bragging about killing monsters so luka choke-slammed him through a tree) and the kid himself was the result of the stars aligning, making him the most unique character in the game.
Compare to paradox:
a lot of things are just kinda happening around luka and/or done for him by stronger people unique to paradox: the white rabbit doesn't give a shit about luka, and instead is there to lead alice around, Neris one-shots nanabi for you, when you beat mikubus on the boat, it's immediately overshadowed by her revealing her true strength and a seraph coming out of nowhere to fight her. Nero's pretty intent on helping you, but it's really a deus ex machina type of thing and you get the impression that you're just one concern of many for him (which is likely true with all the op people from other dimensions all over the place)

I mean, maybe I'm just not far enough to see what kinds of crazy things luka's capable of in paradox, but even with the way the game is set up it's designed to make him less special. In the original trilogy it was you against the world (except in part three where alice could help out one(1) time per battle), meanwhile in paradox you're just one party member among dozens.

Well, to be fair. This is still the Luka of part one, it makes sense that people don't treat him as a total badass and instead like some random dude, exactly how they did it in the originals.

And let's not forget that Luka had actually his hand held through most of his fights in the original too (Alice intervention in Granberia's and Kraken's fights, Alma Elma and Tamamo going super-easy on him. Him using his angel powers out of damn luck, Alice telling him about the spirits, etc)

There's also the fact that his ally be it Ilias or Alice DOES actually need him to achieve their objective so they are more cooperative with helping him, as well as being in a setting in which allows the player to recruit more party members than the original. Which in turn makes the party grow and adding more focuses of attention.

Besides that, Luka was mostly alone in his journey and always at the same level (or lower) than the enemy in the originals, which made things more personal since the battles were also tailor-made for his current skills. So it was easier for the story and the battles to be suited to his progress than in a RPG, in which you can breeze through the game from farming slimes.

I do agree though that the original MGQ had more focus on the characters, but I also think that has a tradeoff in paradox since it seems to have a focus on the world that surrounds the characters we already know.

Yes.

The enemy you couldn't beat was likely the wyvern, who's probably the 3rd or 4th most rng-based enemy, iirc. However, it helps if you don't skip anything (oftentimes you'll be presented with a map and have multiple choices for where to go. Always go with whatever has the lowest number, because it actually does level you up as you go and if you skip things you end up underpowered). Also keep in mind whenever you die you can go to ilias for help (it's called the evaluation. prepare to be made fun of for it, she's a bitch like that, but it's still a good idea)
