When your team wins *and* you have medals, you're doing good.

When your team loses, it's a little more complicated. I would look at a combination of kills and damage. If you have gold elims and silver damage, you're doing pretty good. If you have copper elims and gold damage, maybe not so much. However, team comp can affect medals significantly (e.g., if your tanks are D.Va and Roadhog, they will both be competing for elims/damage, while if your tanks are Zarya and Winston it's probably going to be a race between you and the other DPS).

I'd keep an eye out for big events and judge your own performance. When they made their big push to take the first checkpoint, did you take out their S76 and die to their Pharah? That just turned a 6v6 into a 5v5, so it's not too good. Did you take out their Lucio and their 76, and then die to Rein? OK, you did pretty good!

Rely less on medals and more on your own sense of whether you're winning or losing the big fights. Also, try uploading VODs and asking people to review your play. Everyone has blind spots, it's better to be aware of your own.

Of all the complaints aimed at her, "she's easy to play" is the most true.
